That ring helps direct the air flow at the turbo inlet on HARD deceleration after building lots of boost into a doughnut shape. This keeps the turbo impeller from being slowed and even reversing in direction as the pressurized air in the intake and inter-cooler tract tries to rush in the wrong direction, past the impeller, and greatly reduces stress on the turbo shaft from the sudden deceleration.
No performance gain, no changes to sound when spooling up, and nothing else besides a less harsh "Bark" when you very quickly let off the accelerator pedal while the turbo is spinning very quickly under a mild to heavy load.
The internet is full of garbage advice and ideas and no one wants to know or care about the truth.
Video reminds me of back in the day with carbs, if you see just a tiny puff of smoke on throttle down, you're right where it should be, not over or under. Nice clean looking and running truck, I didn't see or hear anything obnoxious.
Thank You!
So did you ruin your turbo or not by taking off ring silencer on turbo?
Awesome video. I really like the way you talk in ur videos don’t think it’s to much It makes it feel more vlog type and not like an ad/tutorial
Thank you! That is exactly what I am going for. Glad you are enjoying them, stay tuned for more!
Great stuff man keep it up!
Thank you! Welcome to the channel! Going to be posting a few soon!
My first gen IC had a silencer ring in it and there wasn't even an MWE port/groove( someone goofed at the turbo factory apparently), it had primary and secondary fins on the wheel, go figure, but since it was a mid year model with the cooler it got the larger tube from the AF to the turbo. I took my turbo out and apart and machined the MWE port in the comp housing and removed the ring, it was a big enough PIA doing it on the bench in a vice. No way I would fight with it under the hood, I'd at least pull the comp housing to do this but for sure you better have a new seal ring to put in when you go back together with it. By the time I was done with the turbo, swapping the 21 for a 12 and working over the IP and the MWE along with the ring removal, I'm sure it made for at least another 60HP. Next on the list is a set of 90 HP inj. a compound setup and a dual disc clutch kit. That ought to be about the end of my G360 trans input shaft.
Im still debating on bigger turbo on the build.. Time will tell.. First I have to get rid of the death wobble... and then build a stronger 48re
How many of us have leaned on the air box and felt it snap, lol . Be honest
🙋♂️ lol. But only a small snap (couldn't find what broke)... Mine was already missing some of the tabs on the top. I now stay way away from it, or take it out when I am in there.
I have a 2 gen Cummins and when I took that off my truck is now rolling way less cole do you think it has something to do with removing it or am I just trippin?
Did you change anything else when you removed it (even a new air filter). It may have improved air flow in your case. Rolling coal is essentially unburnt fuel caused by a less than ideal air fuel ratio (depending on the application).
@@NevadaRandom this isn't true "rolling coal" is half burnt fuel
@@WestsideDieselAutoPerformance exactly lmao unburnt fuel😂 half burnt fuel is still un burnt
Sadly, I just had all mine out and didn't do the silencer ring removal but will once I get the flo-pro. I have seen you around fernturkey LD
Its definitely a good combo. I need to come out to one of the cruises again. Looking forward to seeing your rig when its done!
Get the trans done first! Nothing like spending money to get rolling only to be forced to a stop and having to spend more money. At least the trans will be ready when you have more available power at your foot.
I couldn't agree more! Going to have to divert a bit at the front end. She has developed the ole death wobble!
The k&n bad is bs. Ive got a 01 5.9 and a 05 cr 5.9. Both have k&n setups , have been on for over 300k on 01 and 150k on 05. No problems at all. And ive even gone as far as to wipe the intake tube after filter with white clean rag and 0 dust or dirt. So the k&n bad is total bs. And i live in a dusty agriculture county. Just for fyi.
Well you can have your opinion and I will have mine. I'm not saying a k&n is bad, but I will tell you that a k&n doesn't filter as well as a Wix. And at factory levels that huge wix filter provides ample cfm.
K&n is ass
Does removing it do anything bad?
Nope, nothing at all. Some may argue that it changes the air flow, but if it does its a very negligible amount. Some folks also get tired of hearing the turbo while, I personally love it. I guess you could say that it may have a negative impact on your fuel consumption, only because you keep your foot in it to hear the turbo.
It's not worth Pulling the Ring out...I don't think it made a Difference at all ..It's a little hard to get out and I think I'm going to put it back in...
Without getting rid of the air tube with the muffler there isnt much of a sound difference. If you put a better air tube on... she sings a decent amount more
If you don't have a boost gauge, you are wasting your time trying to determine whether it made a difference most of the time. I can assure you, it made a difference though even if you don't feel it.
How did you ruin ur turbo tho
... I didnt.. but it makes for a great thumbnail
@@NevadaRandom smh wow!!!
@@NevadaRandom You mean click bait.
Straight pipe it
Bro you should hear my 97 12v with a industrial injection 62/65/12... It's way fucking obnoxious! Thing spins high pitch. Gets the classic flu flu flu wastegate sounds. But at about 12psi the high pitch spool really does bug me! Wish I could post a picture so you could see size comparison. I'm pushing 40psi on it with 523k mile stock engine.
Checked out your videos, it sounds bad ass even from in the cab. Did you get the egt issue resolved? My guess would be over fueling.
@@NevadaRandom no still the same. The crazy thing is I have an attitude adjuster. I turn it down to the point the truck is about to shut off and I still can go over 1250 degrees. Also my egts don't rise while it's being bogged out and rolling massive amounts of coal. Soon as the turbo lights that's when my egts sky rocket
The "flu flu flu" sound isn't the wastegate. The wastegate doesn't make sound it just limits boost. It opens and allows exhaust gases to bypass the turbine wheel. That noise is boost pressure coming back out of the intake
@@countcuda70 think your alluring to compressor surge? Funny thing I thought the same thing. But I run my boost at Max and it doesn't do it. Soon as I turn it down it starts again.
@@4g63tpowered I got an attitude adjuster aswell he carries six and rides upon the hip
Bla bla bla just show before and after
Blah blah blah.... Go watch vine
Dude stay on subject talk to much
Thanks for the tip. Enjoy your videos too...... Oh
Yes get to the point
