    Thank you so much for these tutorials, I used these videos to uncrate and assemble my moped but neglected to follow along with the upgrades thinking that it wasnt really important and here I am 2 months later rewatching and reinstalling things again. I appreciate your help a lot, just wanted to let you know.

      Thanks. I'm glad the vids are helpful. I wouldn't have stuck the mods in the PDI vids if I didn't think they mattered. Sometimes the small things here and there really make a difference. Thanks again.

    My main reasoning is to get it out of my way and to have less parts to fail. It shouldn't really hurt anything otherwise as long as it's in working condition on a stock setup. It introduces air into the exhaust stream to help burn off unburned fuel and clean up emissions. With aftermarket exhausts it may cause lean popping and additional heat.

    Here in the US local parts stores carry NGK plugs. Very easy to get. Google "Keihin PD18J" or "Keihin PD19J" and you should get a bunch of links to carbs.

    .026-.028" and don't use a gapper that pries against the iridium or it can break. use a gapper that pulls the ground electrode away.

    I really appreciate these videos. Very very helpful. You really know your stuff. I have a couple questions:
    1. Do these upgrades hold true for a 150cc?
    2. Is a Roketa Chinese scooter assembled basically the same? Does it have the same engine? The GY6?
    I ask because I am looking at buying a Roketa.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 6 lety

      1. Yes. If you're checking out the whole PDI series, info like the carb won't be correct for the 150 as far as sizes. Torque specs for engine fasteners may vary.
      2. Yes, basically the same. This is sort of the little sibling to the GY6 150 that most of the 150 Chinese scoots have.

    you should have really linked the parts used in this series. It's clearly geared toward complete novice's so just saying "ngk spark plug cover" doesnt really help when theres probably thousands of ngk spark plug covers you know? This is extremely valuable for people buying these cheap scooters that they will surely be relying on to start and run properly. I dont even own a tao tao and I will still be doing many of these upgrades and checks to my KYMCO Super 8R but Im not a mechanic (even on the weekends) so Im nervous about buying parts since I doubt you can return them.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 7 lety +2

      2:05 shows the part number. There are not thousands of different NGK plug covers with that part number. I showed part numbers where relevant. Some of the stuff in the PDI is just sort of generic stuff that you can pick up at parts stores without needing any sort of parts info. I do share more links here though : 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/8006/chinese-scooter-assembly-pdi

    Hey have you ever had problems using both a spark plug and coil with resistors? Here you replace both and both have resistance for radio frequencies and such. Ive heard it can be bad to double up like that but ive never tried a plug with no resistance and coil with resistance. Not sure if the stock coil has the resistor or not but the stock spark plug doesnt. Just wanted yours or anyone elses thoughts on this.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 2 lety

      I regularly use resistor caps and plugs without issue. My TPR is revving out to 14,000+ with dual resistors. I've also heard many people say how detrimental it can be to use both, but I've never had a problem.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před rokem

      I've seen others fail without warning with hardly any miles. This is the problem. You don't know what you're getting. With NGK, Denso, etc... you can expect a quality plug.

    Hey I bought the cr7 iridium plug shown in this video from amazon, as its still not shipped yet I was reading through my owners manual and it says for the kymco super 8 50 to use the cr6 version, whats the difference and should I use the 6 or 7 in your opinion?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 7 lety

      That's the heat range. 6 is hotter. I've always used 7s in the 139QMBs. They're WOT all of the time basically.

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 8 lety +1

      +Michael Wong That'll work. I'd advise going over the jetting with a tuning process, but that should be a good starting point.

    my 50 tao tao when starting slips, it sounds like my starter is slipping, not sure, it does eventually start, do you have a video showing this problem ???????????

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 8 lety

      +michael paradise I don't but I would advise checking your starter bendix. That's a part that sits between the CVT cover and engine cases and allows the starter to engage. If it goes bad, you can have problems that you describe. If you've messed around with the CVT at all, things like removing the cover gasket can even create enough of a spacing issue that the bendix will act up.

    Why are you using a 5k ohm resistor spark plug and a 5k resistor spark plug cap?
    Wouldn't 10k ohm resistance be too much and cause a weaker spark?

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 9 lety

      bblackmon19 It's fine this way and how stock is setup. You can use non-resistor plugs and caps if you'd like, but it may present problems your your or nearby motorists with electronics.

    I changed my carburetor since i stocked my scooter for 2yrs. Now my sparkplug keeps fouling and it backfires, Is it running rich ? How to adjust fuel and air ratio? Thanks

    • @49ccscoot
      @49ccscoot  Před 5 lety +1

      Prob already done this, but first drain all of the gas and replace the lines/filter if it sat for 2 years with gas in it. Then compare main jet size from the old carb vs new. Most likely it should be 75-85.

    !DO NOT! put grease on the threads! Those threats are used as ground / -. If you put grease on it, the connection gets worse, meaning weak spark.
