Something these videos do not capture is the fatique, sleep depravation, stress, fear and the filth that covers your bodies from head to toe. The smell of sweaty, dirty and rarely washed bodies and uniforms is aweful. The food sucks as does the ability to just grab a nice cold beverage out of the fridge. Blistered feet, bruised and cut up body from running and falling in all that destruction just adds to your misery. Not to mention carrying ammo, weapons, water and other supplies on you in that environment. Civilians have no clue as to how miserable combat really is.

The guy in charge is an awesome leader. He's taking most of the risks and is concerned with mission accomplishment. In my opinion the Ukrainians are holding their own against the Russians because of warriors such as this. They have incorporated a highly motivated and trained non commissioned officer corps and the ruskies have no such thing.
Unfortunately it's not true. Media shows how Russians are stupid and came to Ukraine only to steal some toilets. Some of them surely did, but there are also well trained and well prepared troops. They have great skills and armour and weapon and shit like that. My bf is fighting in Ukrainian and he told me about such things. But our boys and girls are truly fighters in their hearts and about this you are absolutely right 😊😊
for me as a former light Infantry dude (OR-7) with 12 years of time in duty... this environment is absolut worst... doing recco in such area is absolut hard as f***.
Bugger all concealment going on there, I'd definitely want an over watch
I was in light armoured forward recon and, honestly, I'd fancy your chances more in infantry recon! The light armour will stop small arms and LMG rounds, but anything bigger and you're opened up like a tin can. And terrain severely limits the places you can put your vehicle, whereas on foot you have a lot more options. Mixed terrain (buildings, scrubland and topographical variations), like in this video, is a nightmare!

If you wonder. We, civillian ukrainians, are constantly sending money we earn to buy armor, vehicles, weapon attachments, drones, humanitarian aid. Some send 5% of their salary. Some send 80%... After what happened with the dam, it will be tough to evacuate people from the flood area. But we are already spending A LOT of money on boats and high-clearance vehicles. Sadly, we can not evacuate people on the ru-controlled territory. They seem not to bother about any civillian casualties...
Highly informative, as ever. Nice one mate
Crossing those wide open spaces looks terrifying, Especially with all the tall buildings around
I remember when I started off early 2000s our main focus was fighting and working out of woods. I mean 70% of the country is covered with it. Later on we started to transition more and more to MOUT and this shows really well in the past 10 years of exercises conducted. Now we see the real life conflict where the biggest battles are fought over urban terrain and how devastating and brutal those fights are. Especially considering the sheer numbers of arty out adversary is willing to use. Even in this video, the artillery barrage was non stop, it sounded like every movie about WW1. I imagine how much a little uav can help just to fly under bridges and through tunnels and just map a route on maps. Have a physical recce just close enough to have overwatch and get a really nice overview of possible positions. So much to analyse and learn from a short video. Great pick.

This is a portion to why our army is … a bit unique? Because we all were civilians, just NPCs so recently. Like no one in my family went to the Army, but university, and we all volunteered.
Our middle child, my brother, is an interior designer. He packed a mini watercolor set with small postcards and paints landscapes, he’s in artillery. Also a weeb.
And I’ve noticed like 95% have a civil university education, and because this people haven’t experienced a strict army routine EVER and were trained limited amount of time, they just bring fun into it.
this war is so important and many different ppl volunteered. Now it’s like in a joke: a farmer, professor, drag queen and a weeb are all sitting together in a sewage on a 0 line with AKs in their hands. (and that’s a real story)

At 9:23 you can get an answer to your question about what could do this to make this town look like this. Thousands of Russian Grads. one right in front of him just to the right of that downed Birch branch.
At least in Iraq we didn't have to worry about that much fire power and artillery coming down on you. Just crazy to see. I broke my ankles at least 300 times watching them run through this debris in all their gear.
The Ukrainians and Russians have to accept that either side will fight tooth and nail. Every means of destruction is available( minus the nuke). They know going out which unit will be waiting or there. Recon, sappers, snipers, elite units, regular Infantry, conscripts, foreign volunteers on both sides, and armour.
Just donated. I Think it’s a great idea to have the donation info.

Excellent tactics returning to their start location using the proven route! Perfect!
equipment and pickups are a secondary matter, the main thing is that they are alive and healthy.
People of Ukraine donate, volunteers buy and give them what they need!
I also recommend watching a video on channel 3 of a separate assault brigade about the expensive life in Bakhmut
I enjoy your content thank you for covering the war in Ukraine! Even though it seems that the rest of the world is over it 😔 I was never in the army but from watching a lot of other footage from this war (I understand both Ukrainian and Russian languages). I think if they would have drones they would probably use it for a mission like that. However, from what I’ve learned is that some drones “live” only as long as one mission. So, that’s a commodity that’s probably not always available since most of the things like drones, gloves, thermal scopes/binoculars are mostly provided by volunteers. Although like you said it may be important to run the route to get a real feel of what it would take to go through it.

Interesting stuff. Recon in the middle of the day across open area... yikes. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
That terrain looks really sketchy to me as a civilian, there could be mines or snipers literally anywhere and not knowing what is around the next corner. Running past buildings that you don’t have the time to check out could mean running past the enemy and being cut off from your supply.
Great video narration. Keep it up!

I think notifying whoever is your leader of whenever your body needs a rest, even if its more than others, is very important. Going by the subtitles you can tell that the tunnel was probably their main objective.
After they're in the trench and I assume sending the videos to HQ you can hear camera guy talking on the radio and saying "everything as it was" so i'd assume they used to occupy these positions and wanted to make sure the Russians were not inside their old strongpoints/approaches. I'd bet that trench they were in was an old Ukrainian overwatch position and that gulley was their main route to get around, covered by the high points while moving around low ground through the tunnel to protect from artillery.

Those trenches at 5:00 have excellent vision and back off into fire lanes. I don't envy the men who had to assault them! This video has a guy call signed "Cossack"! I have seen a couple videos with this guy in them doing this. It appears they been doing this a while and good at it, to be alive! I think there is a drone above them ..he is talking into the mike with someone and then commented it was a big one...meaning the bomb crater beside him...I think he had a drone on over watch also! Real smart work in their situation! I think the recon team has fought in this terrain location before...probably selected for their knowledge of the area before they withdrew...now it looks like they are going to occupy again and preparing for it.
"Cossack"is kinda popular nickname /callsign in Ukraine...
