- Assessing the combat from my perspective is one thing, but hearing these fighters break down their own combat operations REALLY adds a lot of understanding and depth to the operation we are seeing

You asked what a "Platoon strong point" is.
ВОП ("взводний опорний пункт" ukr.) or "Platoon strong point" in English is a defense area prepared in engineering terms (trenches, bunkers, minefields and a fire system covering sectors). It is a system of trenches covering up to 200 meters of frontline and defended by a platoon (hence the name). A well-organized PSP with an experienced platoon defending it is a serious opponent. Most of what you see in the video is the assault on the PSPs. A defense system based on PSPs is built in such a way that neighboring PSPs support each other with fire and do not allow the entire defense line to be broken through together (several lines of PSPs one after the other). Conventional post-Soviet tactics
Good explanation, lad.

I love these Ukrainians. I’ve never imagined someone could earn and deserve so much respect. Honestly I would have traded my whole squad for just two or three of these Ukrainians. Their heart and determination is unmatched and they are some of the most capable fighters I’ve seen. ❤🇺🇦

You should react to TERRA Ops. It’s a Ukranian unit operating drones, which releases high quality videos on youtube showing their missions in Bakhmut.
I agree! same with K-2 54th brigade! some pretty good artillery footage from them where they show both offensive and defensive situations on trenches and stuff.
They have a female soldier with them, so big respect. Her voice was on the beginning of the fight and she has been mentioned several times.
True equality, if someone is able to do the job, they're in and f-k anyone complaining.
The call sign of the girl is Heavy, she is small and not very heavy.
Thks for support Ukraine❤️
These guys are awesome! So much respect to them. 💙💛
Only Sokil speaks Ukrainian in this video, the other 2 guys speak russian.
Just to prove the point that if you’re ru speaking doesn’t mean you’re pro russian.
Yes! My family is from Odessa where it's predominantly Russian speaking area.
Oh, this is also funny proof to break Russian propaganda
The thing is Ukraine for a long time was a more peaceful brother country to Russia and many families shared both nationalities and so most Ukrainians know russian but russians don't know Ukrainian. All of Ukraine original equipment was russian as well. It's an example of how Russia ruined something that could have just been left intact. Russia vowed to protect Ukraine then they launch a genocidal war on it.
I am from Dnipro where 90% or more of the local population speaks Russian, and yet so many of our brave men are fighting on the front lines
lol ur language doesnt matter... if u are ukrainian citizen, u are obliged by law to fight for your country
The most interesting thing to me is how they use humor as their coping mechanism.
As a Ukrainian I still can’t get over the fact that in 2010 I was watching on CZcams videos of American soldiers coming back home to their families. And now an American is watching video of Ukrainian soldiers. Still crazy to think how much can change in a decade
What has schanged? US fascism ruins the world since DECADES and still is.
Thx for reaction and for your support m8. Greetings from UA
The girl with the call sign "Heavy" has been frequently glimpsed in other videos of more recent assaults.
Great video, thank you! What brave men, i can't imagine how frightening it must be, god bless them all, Slava Ukraini, peace and blessings to you from the uk
This dude and his boys have put a lot of invaders in the dirt that’s for sure. I hope these men survive and live the rest of their lives in the peace. They deserve it after all they’ve been through and had to do to protect their country.
If the US is ever invaded I hope I have the guts to fight as hard as these grunts. It’s crazy to think these guys have to do all the wild conventional war shit we practiced in 29 palms at ITX.
Trench clearing in a peer conflict where the enemy has fixed wing, drone, and artillery support.. Christ.

19:50 I remember throwing a dummy practice grenade in basic in some simulated scenario. It bounced from a pine tree trunk in the sector right back at my position, kind of a humbling learning experience. After that I tried to be super thoughtful of how I throw them, specially if using exploding training or real grenades. 😂

Seen a lot of your sh*t bro, this is by far the best! Getting you as a Marine and Army soldier reviewing what these guys went through increased the true intensity of what they went through. As we know dark humor has a funny way of presenting itself especially for civvies, you managed to explain the situation correctly. I fear some may have watched the original and got the impression these guys had fun, you were able to bring home the reality of combat while IMO enjoying the dark humor. Much love 💪

I'm not a soldier, but I speak Ukrainian. I think "platoon strong point" is an area/position of land/trench prepared for defense, adapted to 360 degrees of defense. sorry I might be wrong, again, I'm a civilian, and this is my best guess..

I have to say the javelin was the first utensil of resistance
I’d without a doubt say the NLAW, the first engagements were too quick and rather close range for the javelin to be as effective
Javelin even sucked in soviet times. Hasn't improved since then.
Good insight, I liked this one

31:15 That was not an ATGM flying over them. That was a 30 mm on an aircraft. You can hear it go "brrrt" and shortly after a quick succession of smaller explosions, indicating it was firing close to them, hitting something further away. After it you can hear the engine as it turns away and flies off. Besides that, they were saying earlyer that something was "air" and "very aimed", so it's plausible to assume there was a Russian aircraft in the area.
Insane footage and bravest soldiers🔥🔥
Also sucks to hear a guy was killed trying to get into the dugout. I must be so hard accepting their surrender after they just killed your friend.

I believe a stronghold in this circumstance is the heaviest guarded, the final retreat point. Often with a machinegun nest and a 360° view. Preferably slightly above ground dug in a highpoint.
i think they mean troop concentration when they say "strong point"

I have a question for US or NATO vets or in active duty in the CAC community :
I know that during Cold War time, NATO armies (im french) training was almost exclusively about high intensity worldwide conflict against USSR and allies.
But since the 90s and mostly after 9/11 and Irak and Afghanistan wars, would you say that "conventional warfare" drills vanished completely to give place for counter-insurgency, or did you still have a significant part of the training looking towards high-intensity conventional warfare ? (CAC mentionned that as a Marine he was trained to trench warfare at least a little)
To sum up, did NATO militaries loose their skills for high-intensity, and are they going to have to start everything from zero ?
Thx in advance for your answers
31:13 It sounds more like Su-25 unguided rocket barrage and not an ATGM. You can even hear jet engine sound typical for Su-25.
my training took place according to NATO standards, but now I see that NATO needs to learn a lot from Ukrainian soldiers.
