Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

@@Demagora that funny in a deleted scene he actually picked one up and looked at it and was confused as though he had never seen one before.
I had the same thought! The place couldn't be more different from the little restaurant where he goes to do his cartel business. That place is quiet and dark, and the staff doesn't bat an eye at Tuco pummeling an old man in the parking lot, or Lalo waltzing into the kitchen to make his own tacos. This place here is all well lit and busy, and full of people who have no idea that the place is linked to the cartel. It couldn't more against the grain from Hector's point of view.

This is the episode where Lyle's wife told him he's in danger and he should consider contacting the police. That's when Lyle gave his epic "I am the danger, I am the one who knocks" speech.

@@sabin97 The point is that just like padlocks, those signs only stop the good people.
I always thought Hector was jealous of Gus in a different way when it comes to each owning a business. Hector had no customers that we really see at his establishment, yet Gus' restaurant is filled with happy people and families. Just another thing Gus has that Hector does not. I always loved when Nacho gives that look regarding the family leaving. Little moments.
I don’t think Hector cares about that, perhaps only in the sense that it provides a better front and makes Gus seem more “professional”, similar to how Hector gets triggered by Gus’ neatly organised cash at Eladio’s. It’s just another case of Hector viewing Gus’ less barbaric and cultured approach to the trade over his more “traditionalist” and old school approach as a threat to his own worth to the cartel and thus his own perceived value.
It could also be some more petty rivalry too. Like he's thinking, "even his fake business is doing better than my fake business, and I owned an ice cream store in New Mexico."
Eladio also respected Gus more than he respected Hector and Hector knew that himself.
After watching Better Call Saul I kind of feel like Gus and Hector are like Jimmy and Chuck. Hector is really unlikable and narcissistic and has a grudge against Gus who is really charismatic and nice. Hector was jealous of Gustavo‘s interpersonal skills but also he didn’t care about pleasing the customer
Hector is literally Plankton
Arturo blocking the woman and child from leaving Los Pollos was one of the most infuriating moments in the entire series for me. Made it all the more satisfying when Gus executed Arturo personally.
The execution of arturo was terrible,a real Horror death
I agree with it but he could've went a lil easier on dudes execution like he was waaaay too brutal with that one imo that death really got to me even though it's just a show a bag over a man's head while his arms and legs are hog tied while he suffocated was just wow and the noises he made while that was happening were disturbing to say the least.
He's not the brightest bulb in the box.
After Gus killed him infront of Ignacio, Gus no longer "believed fear to be an effective motivator".. in his own words.
Dork. “Infuriating” 😂 BETA MALE!!!
Can we just take a moment to appreciate the fact that the guy behind Hector ordered a twelve-piece bucket of chicken and jumbo fries, and was about to order even more before Hector lit his cigar. What a unit.

2:28 One of my favorite moments for Nacho’s character in the entire show. Shows that he’s an empathetic human being who doesn’t want blood on his hands if it’s not necessary. Such a fantastic and subtle moment that adds so much to his character. Little moments like this are part of what I love so much about this show. Says so much with no dialogue.
I love Nacho fr, he's one of my favorite characters
Remember that Nacho joined Cartel to make his dad happy and he still has morals.
I see it differently. It's extremely weird scene, what the hell this guy wanted to do? Salamancas don't care about visitors of this place, they wanted to see Fring. There is no way they started to hold kids as hostages for this purpose. It's ridiculously weird scene. This guy is just "no brain - no pain" type of person. It's not about empathy, it's about common sense

I'm kinda surprised that Gus was able to keep this front going for so long. With Hector, the cousins, Nacho, Walt coming into his restaurant and constantly requesting to speak with Gus and looking weird and all, you'd think some employees or customers would have noticed over the years that something was off with the place.
They probably knew but either continued working keeping to themselves because they liked Gus or quit and didn't want to say anything out of fear
He probably paid well above the industry standard. It likely didn’t happen very often. Gus was a prominent figure in the city too. But yeah I would’ve been freaked out working there lol
Later this episode Gus vaguely explains that he knew Hector and the Salamancas back in Mexico and that they harassed him for money back then. I guess they understood he had history with dangerous people but just didn't want to get involved in that.

Wow, he is really stupid. Why would you talk to him like that? Don't you realize how dangerous that guy is? He could end you and your entire family. Don Hector is so lucky Lyle chose to have mercy on him.
Lyle is really well acted.
I always liked how this scene shows the differences on how Hector and Gus run their businesses, and why Gus is successful while Hector isn't. Gus hides in plain sight and works on building himself up as a respected and influential member of the community while treating his employees with kindness and respect, which makes them loyal to him and his operation run smoothly. Hector acts like an old school gangster and barges into the restaurant with his goons, acts like he owns the place, and scares everyone thinking it makes him respected while not realizing that it just paints a giant target on his back and draws unnecessary attention to his operation.
The first couple seconds before anyone says anything is actually really comforting and relaxing

Real talk I think the only reason Hector didn't do anything else was because Lyle was respectful. He called him sir and despite Hector doing all that he did, Lyle didn't get aggressive or call the cops and just kept asking Hector to stop while being as polite as he could. I feel like if Lyle threatened to call the cops or got violent, Hector would have done a lot more than just harass them.
