Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Hector literally scared out all the staff and customers, picked dogshit off his shoes onto the desk, demanded Gus do his bidding - and yet somehow Lalo is more menacing with a smile and some chicken.
Hector was the wolf that comes dressed as a wolf. His intentions are clear as a bell since he wears his emotions on his sleeve, and he doesn't mince words. It is easy to fear someone who is so outwardly menacing since you can see him coming a mile away. However, Lalo is like Hannibal Lecter. Same. It's extremely relatable!
He’s like that for the entire show XD
Gus and Lalo's conversation in front of Nacho is like me and my wife's interactions after we just had a big fight. We think we're doing an awesome job hiding it from the kids but somehow they pick up on it.
Nacho is a soldier who’s caught between two evil titans: Salamanca and Fring. Remember, Fring figured out that Nacho tried to kill Salamanca, so he has him by the you know whats. Nacho is trying to figure out how to extricate himself and save his father.

Honestly, Lalo gave us a villain that the show needed. He wasn't crazy like Tuco, silent like Hector and the Cousins, or stoic like Gus. He's outgoing and charismatic, but still awesome.
Honestly, I’d like to think of him as a small breath of fresh air.
@dani cali Really? After you’ve seen what he’s done with a box cutter?
He actually appears to be even more stoic than Gus since he’s shown to be disturbingly calm under pressure.

impressive how tony dalton captures this
Yup! I think that’s a skill that very few actors possess. Dalton can also do the facial transition effortlessly of a joyful smile to pure menace in the eyes. An example is when he says to Jimmy, “tell me….again.” Gandolfini and Hackman were two of the best to do that move and I think Dalton does it just as well.

He has that "I am uncomfortable with the situation that you put me through" when Lalo was enjoying the chicken while Gus is out there playing the role of a happy go lucky manager.
Nacho be like: "Sorry to bring you another Salamancas to your restaurant."
It's not embarrassment . He's scared out of his mind . He of all people knows how unpredictable and dangerous Salamancas are and he's not fooled by Lalo's appearance and manner . He is acting as a double agent with Gus and he's worried he will give it out by some small mistake . That's why he is super self-aware around Lalo . Lalo is literally there to figure out what and how it went all wrong for Salamancas . If he gets wind of Nacho's betrayal , Nacho would be a dead man before he could blink .
Right lmao
"Second-Hand Embarrassment"? Oh that's not embarrassment. That's fear. Nacho had his run with Tuco and Tuco is just erratic. Lalo is charismatic and cunning. He is well spoken but every word he spews is poisonous. He's both the boss and the muscle.

Yeah this actor is elite. Looks like a mestizo mexican with some french blood, he has quite a unique charm
Tony Dalton masterfully created an unpredictable character by pulling positive and negative facial expressions at the same time, dousing them with sarcasm, menace and humour. For example, when sizing up other people, he often squints his eyes (with virtually no blinking) instead of showing a duchenne smile, or he'll appear hostile whilst simultaneously raising his eyebrows to look "sad" or innocent. This incongruous emotion is intentionally unsettling and very fitting for a psychopathic character. Rarely does it look so effortless on screen.

Lalo had complete control of that situation. You can tell how Gus was on the defensive during this entire clip, trying not to let anything slip. If you can make Gus that concerned, you're more than dangerous.
Yes, but don't forget that Gus is the most dangerous when he seems to be cornered. That's his strategy: like Russia's scorched earth, he too lets his enemy wound him first, letting them invade his territory only to suddenly deliver the fatal blow from the hinterland. This is how he dealt with the Twins, Bolsa, the Cartel, Arturo and this is how he got to Lalo too. He makes them think they have the upper hand and waits patiently for his turn and then he suddenly crushes his enemies with a single blow. No wonder that Lalo lost his gleeful smile by the last episode. Only then did he realize that his enemy is just as ruthless and marked for death as he himself.

It's so crazy how 2 guys can just appear to be having a somewhat friendly business conversation, but the tension is insane. They both know the other is extremely dangerous but are both playing it cool and trying to remain in charge. Lalo is the best character on the show IMO. I like them all but something about Lalo that's awesome.
Their relationship went deep … deep underground!
Lalo is a psychopath......the other Salamancas are sociopaths! That is literally the difference.
Lalo is a monster, just look at what he did to that poor cup, we must raise a gofundme for that cup specifically
I love the way Lalo tries to manipulate Gus into exposing his treachery by pretending like he wants to work against the Don. And Gus didn't fall for it. Excellent
You can almost feel Gus's disgust when a Salamanca expresses their gratitude
"How lucky for me!" I love the delivery! It's almost like he really meant it.
The way he says "I wanted to weep" always makes me laugh. So hilariously insincere lmao
Isn’t it true though? He was really emotional when he turned to give Hector one more look before leaving.
Yeah that one was true
But he was being sincere
Lalo is always so genuine but miraculously manages to come off as dishonest. What did he do to deserve such scrutiny 😢
He was definitely putting on a whole show for Gus. Even though he was a bit sad seeing Hector that way, his delivery to Gus was 100% performative and insincere. Hilarious line delivery.
I like how uncomfortable nacho is the entire time
Just like “why am I hare why am I hare this is stupid”
And gus just staring at him like “the hell is this?”
With nacho just “I was dragged hare”
Lalo is honestly one of TVs best villians. He's so charming but terribly evil.
We met Tuco and I thought, what a frightening and scary villain. We meet Gus and we see this even more diabolical villain, then Lalo pops in a is even scarier with his charisma and likeability....he truly makes this show great.
I still think gus is much scarier
When an unstoppable force meets an immovable object.
idk why but i keep coming back to this scene to see lalo's face at 0:50. I cant stop laughing every time he fakes that surprised expression on his face
Same. 😂
"You'd be crazy to go up against Eladio" The Ice Cold look that Gus gives to Lalo was just SO AMAZING, especially after we know that Gus does in fact go against Eladio and eliminate him and his enforcers as well. Thats what Makes Better Call Saul So great. If you were to watch BCS Before Breaking Bad you'd never be able to feel the power of these moments
I love Gus’s IMMEDIATE reaction after lalo gets up and walks to his office. 😂😂😂😂
He was like , is he really a salamaca
i think it's really heartwarming to see that gus is genuinely happy that people love his chicken.
Delighted, in fact!
I love this scene. It's like both Lalo and Gus are actually enjoying acting out as two fellows having a cheerful conversation.. LOL So funny and entertaining scene.
Gus: Now what may I do for you, señor.. ?
Lalo: Salamanca
Gus: *frustrated smile*
maybe im reading too much into it, but lalo switching languages complements how he also changed how he spoke. he wanted to trap gus and make him say something bad about eladio, so he switch to spanish to make gus comfortable and more likely catch him slip
Yup, I picked up on that too.
Not that Gus would slip, but it is a small opening move in a long chess game. To be continued
For the record, I'm bilingual and do the same.
Yeah but after listen to how Gus speak spanish he must go back to english LOL
This is the moment Lalo Meets Gus. Absolutely chilling.
That's just wild speculation. Until Vince himself comes out and confirms that I won't believe it.
This is so stupid it actually is hilarious
No way, you're actually right?
Vravo Bince
It's been awhile since I laughed out loud at a CZcams comment.
1:47 that immediate change of Gus' expression, the lighting, everything is just perfection.
I love this scene. Lalo and Gus are masters of facades, they just use completely different ones. Lalo is slick and charming on the surface, and Gus puts on the air of a mild-mannered bean-counter, but underneath, both men are absolute snakes.
Lalo has to be one of the most intriguing characters on TV. We know Gus is an invincible powerhouse in BrBa still in BCS, there's this Lalo guy is fully capable of destroying him. But he wasn't even talked about by the cartel and Gus on BrBa so we know he has been dealt with and left far behind by that time. The question is, what DID happen to him! The final season is going to be the best thing in my life yet.
He’s mentioned by Saul in the desert, when Jesse and Walter kidnap, he asks if Lalo sent them
@@thecringeprince2040 yes, I specified that he wasn't mentioned by the characters more directly involved in his life.
@@amandeepdash9014 my bad b
@@amandeepdash9014 still though, if Lalo’s alive we could potentially get a spin off. Imagine following Lalo as he becomes his own Don in Mexico
Either he's gone to Belize or incarcerated
Funny thing is if you really travel to Mexico you’ll notice that the charisma he has is very similar to how people socialize there.
Edit; I was Born in Cholula, Puebla. raised in Oaxaca, Veracruz Xalapa, and grew up in Mexico City.
For anyone that thinks I’m making an assumption of how we Mexicans act I can confidently reaffirm Lalo’s social skills and charm are common in Mexico, and even the norm in some states. Así es mi Mexico lindo y querido 🇲🇽 Saludos a mis Camaradas
Also everything is yellow. I noticed that too
Yes, mexicans behave like that. And its awesome how Lalo finally encapsulates a real latino character. His mexican accent is awesome to hear when in contrast to the english speaker actors trying to speak spanish
perhaps because Lalo is mexican in real life....??
I live in Mexico and nah
@@danielamaris6367 así es como nos comportamos con los extranjeros particularmente
I love how Nacho is so fed up at 0:33.
gus with the rizz face in the start
The interesting thing about Lalo is that compared to the other villains in the BB universe, he has actually been the least hostile. Both Hector, Gus, Tuco and Eladio relied on punishment and threats to gain respect from their surroundings. Except for that one guy in the store, Lalo has not attacked anyone unless they tried to kill him, yet everyone is terrified of him. His entire demeanour is so intimidating that he can be the friendliest person to you and talk about the most random things, while STILL getting the message across that you shouldn't mess with him.
Fred disagrees lol
Yes but knowing he's a cartel higher up would scare anyone before even saying word.
All I can say is, S6E7
I believe your view about him might have changed a Lil bit now lol
Id consider Todd to be of a non hostile type
The two best villains in media history meet for the first time. Such an excellent scene, can't wait to see more from both of them in Season 6!
Yeah calm down bud. Both are good but what you said is just cringe.
@@lehtokurppa7824 let him think what he wants, dont be an ass about it
@@instakill2664 I wasn't an ass. Hes free to think what he want's but what he said was a statement presented as a fact, I said what I thought of that. Don't play the white knight.

@@lehtokurppa7824 Gus is one of the best for sure
After watching the finale, you can go back and notice details that make so much sense. Like when Lalo eats the chicken and says he likes it, it shows that he likes chicken. Bravo Vince!
Also, notice that when he sits in the car it's so that Nacho will take him somewhere by car!
@@3hutp EXACTLY. This is why I make blood sacrifices to Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould.
@@3hutp That is so true!
I love the insincere niceness off that lalo and Gus are having it’s truly a battle of the ages.
3:11 the face of a man who knows what he is going to do, eventually.
The best and worst of Lalo it’s his charm and how he genuinely seems like a cool dude, but you buy that for a second and you’re dead meat. That’s what make him so dangerous and a force to be reckon with
Not only that he's a combat specialist. Turns tables on assassins by escaping then returning, and how he climbed through the ceiling at the travel wire without making any noise. So stealthy.
This is also the predatory narcissist playbook. This a dynamic people are intimately familiar with in their day to day lives whether they realise it or not. The scariest monster under the bed is the one that is real.
mate, yes i watched the video so you dont have to repeat obvious stuff
Hits different after watching last episode 😢
0:50 best part
The lion and the tiger measuring each other up... brilliant scene
The way he points at the drink and says “Don’t waste that” is hilarious to me
I also love the way he slides out of the booth
3:32 this is a really underrated camera shot and fantastic acting by giancarlo. gus slowly fades from his fake mask of human emotion back into a sinister, emotionless monster
0:21 That delivery is perfect 😂
1:09
the way he looks at Nacho is funny as shit lmao
"And here we are.. getting along.." The script itself is brillant, but Dalton's performance makes it exceptional. This is cinema, quality cinema. Muy bien!
They got a long allright - a long way underground ! 😂
Lmao Gus’ face makes me laugh every time 1:10😂
The way Gus's smile melts off his face the moment Lalo exits his office reminds me how when it comes to feelings and emotions, Gus is a master at playing charades. His spontaneous and controlled demeanor change reminds me of GLADOS's character from the portal games.
Rewatching this scene multiple times and understanding Lalo’s character in this series, I’m convinced he knows Gus was eventually planning to take out Eladio and the cartel. Almost like he put himself in Gus’s shoes and thought it out how he’d play it considering the history Gus has with the cartel and his current business capabilities and resources required. That’s probably the reason he told Gus to his face - “He’d be crazy to go up against Eladio”
Basically, Indirectly telling Gus, I know what you’re up to.
I think Lalo's greatest strength, compared to the rest of his family, is a kind of keen-eyed humility. Consider Hector after he threatens Mike's granddaughter - he gets what he wants and then "forgets" about Mike (according to Nacho). Hector and Tuco both have this brashness where their ego is easily stroked and they simply assume nobody would dare go against them. They think that once you've put someone "in their place", that's it, you have nothing to fear from them. So Hector, even though he killed Gus's partner in front of him, treats Gus as almost beneath notice.
Lalo seems to be the only one to frankly look at that situation, the past between them, and realise that no, what happened back then is not something Gus would ever forget or move on from. It's a very obvious conclusion but one the others are too arrogant to consider.
he warns bolsa about his suspicions of gus and tells him gus is planning vengeance
@Raylan Givens Well, Gus outplayed Lalo in the end as well.
He 100% suspects that Gus is planning to take them out thats the point.
The only Salamanca that Gus was ever truly wary of
I have to disagree. I think he was wary of all of them but forgot about Don Hector at the end.
I love how he reacts when Gus says his is the owner, it's just so good
My favorite part.
3:00 - I believe this is the first moment where we see Gus truly, truly scared about something.
wouldn't say scared here. Just wary of him
