    Nice purchase Chris, I think you made a great deal with it. The books looks in great shape. Collecting the Dutch stamps with the Davo albums is really nice. I look a lot at my albums, and also looking to fill the gaps is very easy in this way of stocking the stamps. Nice video, keep up the good work!

      Hi, the books are in great shape yes. I still need to get used to white pages. I think most of the time stamps come out better on black pages. Maybe that is also why I like stockbooks.

    The Davo albums sure look nice, Chris. Both the pages and the binders. If I had a deal like that come up, I'd likely buy them too! 🙂 I prefer having my own writeup / descriptions along with the stamps, but there is a huge appeal to the simplicity of filling spaces.

      Yep, good deal and the appeal....I think I still prefer my own writeups, as you say. But as a 'variety' thing, I think it would be nice to fill it up.

    To each their own but I personally love Davo albums and have splurged on them in the past. You got a great deal on the three as well.
    I also use stock books and Vario pages for some of my collection.

      Hi Jeff. Yep, good deal on the three as well. They arrived this evening. So a follow-up will come to this episode. Vario pages are really nice too!

    I also bought two Davo albums for New Zealand second hand, for a very reasonable price. I only have volumes III and IV (1991-2003). I have the same reservations about them than you have: one cannot customize them and you are largely restricted to the stamps and format they included, and only one place per stamp. Since they are of reasonably recent years, I thought to use the Davo for those years, but the remainder of the years, especially those prior to, I will still use stockbooks and/or self made albums. Thanks for showing us the albums - I think you did a good buy - and give your thoughts about them.

      Hi Charnie. I would be interested to see your NZ Davo albums. And indeed, not much place to give your own flavour to your collection. But I guess for one country that is okay. The second set I mentioned in the video arrived tonight. It will be interesting to combine them, and to make that a follow-up video. Thanks for commenting and watching!

      I am sorting some more recent stamps from NZ at the moment, Chris. Maybe I will get some stamps for the albums, then I think I will make a video. They will not be unused stamps, though.@@chrislovesstamps

    Great video Chris. You certainly got a deal. I looked at Davo albums for my Third Reich Collection but they were too expensive and there is no room for varieties. I will continue making my own album using 32 lb graph paper and mounts. All the best for 2024.

      Yep, I saw various German Davo albums over here but they go for way more. And I agree, I miss the room for varieties, flexibility and creativity. But an album making from scratch takes time, but it does feel like ‘your’ album then. It kinda feels like cheating, the Davo albums. I certainly would not do it for all my collecing interests, even if they were ‘cheap’. The best to you too for 2024, Daniel! Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Chris, just wondering if you got my email with the Higgins & Gage catalogue?

    Hi Chris, very nice albums but expensive for most countries, I would like a set myself but the expensive puts me off.

    • @chrislovesstamps
      @chrislovesstamps  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yep, very expensive mostly. Maybe just lucky that Davo is made 40 km from where I love, in Deventer, and that the books are for The Netherlands. I see other countries sell for more over here. Feels the market here for Netherlands is saturated, and it is a buyers market. I don't complain :-)

    I was interested in trying out one of those beautiful Davo albums. Doing some research on CZcams, a couple of videos made me reconsider. One video had some of the plastic mounts badly glued on the page, some badly aligned. In another video a collector said that he decided to return the album because he realized that Davo had simplified some pages. It seems some of the pages didn't allow for many color variants and other variety of the same stamps.

      Hi. I had no issues with the mounts, or bad allignement or otherwise things that had to do with poor or lacking quality. I do think there is little room for varieties. The Dutch Davo albums seem to follow the standard NVPH (Dutch) catalogue, the standard version, not the specialised.
      I do prefer to collect in stockbooks, or 'my own way'. For just one country I do not mind that I have Davo albums, but wouldn't do so for all countries, apart from how much money that would costs. I also thing that Davo albums are not worth what they go for if you buy them new. Thanks for commenting!

    I managed to get a GB davo (part 5) binder for £10 from a local antique shop... A bargain
    I would use it but then I would want to complete my collection in them & that would cost a fortune

    • @chrislovesstamps
      @chrislovesstamps  Před 6 měsíci

      Did you manage to get the deluxe binder or the one with the linen cover? Still a good deal, but indeed it is hard to get them all. I am not planning to get them all. Too expensive and The Netherlands releases a lot of stamps. Then you would need every couple of years a new binder. For example: I am able to house all stamps in 3 binders but if you want to collect up to current year, then it is 8. Might be the case for a lot of countries but that way of collecting forces you to put all your money in one country to collect. Thanks for commenting!

    Beautiful but they are sooooo expensive!

      Hi Sylvain. Yep, they are. Sometimes you can get them cheap, secondhand. But ofcourse, it is always a risk.

    Down side to the album as presented in video is that the album pages do not lay flat when open as you work between the pages.

      Hi. Yeah, feels there is some more pressure on the album than on a stockbook. But not big of a deal to me, but I get your point.
