  • We all know it's harder for older people to lose weight, right? Well, not in my experience. I've managed to lose 70 pounds in 7 months on the carnivore diet, and I'm 60 years old. My health has improved, too!

    ☆ ABOUT ME ☆
I am a former tech worker who lived in NYC for 30 years. When I reached 50, I set out my own and created a business selling on Amazon using their FBA program. Great fun, but neither career left much time for healthy living.
I turned 60 last year (2023). I found myself 110 pounds overweight and seriously out-of-shape, pre-diabetic, with sky-high cholesterol, and unable to walk for more than 20 minutes without resting.
I decided to make some major changes. I shut down my Amazon business and started living frugally. Health is more important than money, especially as we grow older. In August 2023 I started the carnivore diet and lost 65 pounds in 3 months.
Now I’m hooked! I can walk for miles without a rest now. My cholesterol is within normal levels as is my blood pressure. I am no longer pre-diabetic, and I feel 30 years younger!
After experiencing the benefits, I’ve become passionate about sharing my story to help others.

61 year old. I started carnivore in January. So far have lost 15lbs, went off blood pressure medication, my mood has improved. I love this way of eating, no longer have to meal plan, just eat whatever I have in the freezer. My husband and I did realize that we do not really like chicken, so gave it to my children. Will continue this way of eating for the time being.

Yeah most carnivores seem to go off chicken. I think because it lacks the nutrients and your body becomes better at signalling what you need.

@nathansmith6914 Yeah, nothing against chicken or pork, but it's just bleh compared to juicey red meat. I like a tuna or Salmon steak occasionally with my beef steaks. Pork skins/cracklins or fresh sliced pork belly/bacon for snacks.

Very good video. I started started carnivore in 2016. I was very ill and doctors were no help, so I decided to do the opposite of what they told me. My health improved remarkably, in a year I was completely changed. Every day I see people who seem to enjoy illness. They identify with their problems "my cancer, my diabetes "its in group mentality. Getting outside the group is scary for some people and for some reason diet is a big identifier. I am a formerly obese diabetic cancer survivor, now I am just one of those guys. 65 years old 6'2" 200 lbs ,fit strong and healthy, my life is better than at any time in the past. God gave me a new life and every day is a blessing!

i'm still fearful after hearing about fat negatively since the 80's. i have heart and thyroid disease. i'm meat based for weeks but still eat a few carbs (avocado, olives, kimchi, type stuff). 1st day on just meat had aural migraine and 1st night woke up with racing heart (took some metoprolol and went back to sleep). 2nd day another migraine and evening skipped heart beats (they bug me but not dangerous), again woke up with racing heart). i ordered some electrolytes. i do have salt, potassium and magnisium already but maybe i need more. i'm just going to take it day by day. i've got 100 extra pounds stuck to me for the past 7 years. funny how gorging on bags of chips (old me) never cause migraines etc...the body is weird.

At 56 I had to do something or I was going to quit my job because of pain. I went keto under 20 carbs a day, . Lost most of my med problems 160 lbs, but still had high BP, At 59.5, I went full carnivore and quit all alcohol. 3 years later at 62.5, I am free of all of my meds and no med problems. Hi, Jay -- I'm sure your video will be encouraging to so many over-60s who feel that they're "stuck" with being overweight. I am over 70, and am now weigh less than I did in high school! Over the years, I've often heard that after about age 40, it's very difficult to lose any weight, and that you might need to settle for a higher weight for the rest of your life. After adopting the Carnivore diet, though, I am no longer yo-yo dieting, my blood work is much better, and grocery shopping is much easier -- beef, butter, bacon, eggs, and occasionally chicken. I never thought in a million years I could give up carbs and sugar. It was the toughest thing I ever did, but the best thing I ever did.

First of all, loved seeing Elizabeth Park! I lived in West Hartford for many years and was able to walk there from my house. How I loved that park! We now live in beautiful, WARM Myrtle Beach, but Hartford will always be home. Thank you for an honest, informative video. I, too, am in my early 60's. I have been on and off keto for a couple of years and keep losing and regaining the same 20 pounds. I never quite get to my goal weight because I end up letting the keto treats and "dirty" keto foods creep back in. Let me tell you, that's a slippery slope. So I have committed to at least 30 days of true carnivore, beginning April 1, which is tomorrow. Today (March 31) I will take the measurements and photos, and continue to eat my keto/ketovore Easter dinner. I am already in ketosis so the "flu" symptoms have passed. It is absolutely the emotional/psychological component that's the hardest to change. Looking forward to more content. Thanks again!

Carbs are an addiction for some of us, and it is a slippery slope. If you feel like you can, try going 3 months. It was during month 3 that I saw the biggest improvements. I know 3 months seems like a long time, so do the 1 month first, and then, if it feels right, make the commitment to do 3 months. That’s what I did and I’m glad I stuck with it. Good luck!

Congratulations to you on the video you have just presented. Well worth watching. It left me wanting to share my journey with you, and anyone else who might be interested enough to read.
For so many years I followed the recommended "Standard Western Diet" based on the Food Pyramid that the Australian Health Department put out there. Which was largely based on research that was funded by the U.S. sugar, grain growers and farming organizations as well as various drug companies.
During that time my health slowly deteriorated to the point where I had gained so much weight, had difficulty moving around and ended up having a mini stroke, which has, still to this day, messed up my balance and vision.
16 months ago, I was 130kg (286lb), pre diabetic, had high blood pressure, underactive thyroid, psoriasis, sciatica, fatty liver and inflammation.
On December 1st, 2022, my 65th birthday, I cut out all sugar, grains, fruits, vegatables, seed oils and alcohol.
I switched to the carnivore diet. I only eat meat, fish, eggs and other unprocessed animal products such as liver, kidneys, hearts, and giblets etc.
Apart from a bit of onion, garlic and a few spices for flavouring, I do not eat any fruit or vegetables at all. I don't count calories and eat as much as I want until I am comfortably full. When my brain says I've had enough I stop eating and only eat again when I feel hungry. As it has turned out for me, I only eat once a day, during a one-hour window around midday and I no longer have any cravings for snacks in between.
As of this morning, I am now down to 90kg (198lb), which is a loss of 40kg (88lb) and all of the above conditions are gone. I feel more like I did when I was in my 30's and 40's, my bloodwork and blood pressure are pretty well spot on and I now enjoy getting out and about, going for long walks, a bit of fishing and other outdoor activities. My balance and vision issues are still there from the stroke but I am able to cope with that well enough.
It is not my intention to influence anyone into following what I have done to improve my health. I only wanted to share what is currently working for me. If there is any need for me to adapt to something else in the future, I will do so. But for now, I am good with what I am doing.
We are all different to a certain extent and each of us needs to find our own way. I wish everyone all the very best of luck in finding their own way to better health and a longer life.
    Kindest regards to everyone.

You are right about the mindset as we grow older, making it more difficult to lose weight, but I have to add that I believe we spend decades messing up our hormones with the standard diet and they need to be sorted out before we can lose weight effectively. I was losing VERY slowly and stalling until one day I decided to up my intake of good fats, e.g. adding butter to coffee and meat dishes, and within one month, although I hadn't lost any weight, I lost an entire dress size and over 14 inches off my waist, bust, hips, arms and legs. It's SO counter-intuitive to what we are taught but it worked and now I am losing at a nice easy pace :)

I was obese a year ago. I’m normal weight now. I did intermittent fasting for a few years, and dropped from my peak weight of 246 to 200, but I couldn’t keep the weight at 200, and it went back up to 226 and stayed there for over a year with just intermittent fasting, eating one or two meals a day, no snacking. In previous decades in my life, I lost and regained 75 pounds 3 different times in my life. The weight loss could only be maintained for several months, before I gained the weight back, plus additional weight.
Just 14 months ago, I added the carnivore diet to the intermittent fasting, at the age of 68. At that point in time, my weight was 226 for over one year, locked at that weight. I had many health problems.
The first 30 days on the carnivore diet, I lost 22 pounds. I lost the severe daily lower back pain that I had for many years. In the following months, I lost more weight. I lost the intermittent knee pain. I lost the daily fatigue and have lots of energy. I lost the eye floaters. I lost the frequent headaches. I lost the sluggish body feeling. I lost the body odor. Now, I have zero underarm and foot odor even when working in the garden all day in the summertime in Florida. Overall, my health is drastically improved in the past year.
My weight is about the same as it was at age 13. I’ve been overweight or obese almost my entire life. I added one cauliflower per day after the first month of the carnivore diet due to severe constipation problems. I also occasionally eat chopped up sweet onions. Those are the only non-meat things that I eat, besides eggs. I cut out the cheese because it was stalling the weight loss.
My total weight loss is about 92 pounds. In the past 14 months on the ketovore diet, nearly carnivore, I lost 68 of those pounds. I’m now 69-1/2 years old and I am the best health in many decades, including excellent bloodwork. My doctors were not thrilled with the carnivore diet, but when they saw the dramatic improvements in the past year, they stopped talking negatively about the carnivore diet, or ketovore diet in my case.
It’s tough to convince people that are obese or overweight to try the carnivore or ketovore diet. The old food pyramid diet is totally ingrained and they are unable to see the example in front of their nose what changing to the carnivore or ketovore diet can drastically improve the health and drop the excess weight.
The eating is very easy. No counting calories. Just eat until you’re full. No sugar. No vegetable or seed oils. No bread. No pasta. No grains. No fruits. No vegetables, other than cauliflower and sweet onions for me. My weight is now 155 to 158, and I’m 5’-10”. That’s normal weight for my age and height. My maximum waist size was 44, now it’s 32. My maximum T-shirt size was XXL, now it’s M. I had to replace all my baggy clothes.

New subscriber here. I'm soon to be 57, overweight, and diabetic. I started the carnivore diet 6 days ago and have already lost 10lbs and I'm feeling great! When I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes a few years ago I mentioned a low carb diet to my Dr and she absolutely flipped out! She said NO! That will kill you! She suggested a low to zero fat diet with lots of vegetables. Fast forward 3 years and my blood sugar is as bad or worse than it's ever been. I haven't checked it yet, but I can tell just by how I'm feeling that my numbers have to be improving! Looking forward to losing around 50lbs and getting my glucose in check and then revisiting her to see what she has to say. 😁 Thanks for your channel!

My blood sugar went from borderline diabetic to normal after 3 months. I lost 50 lbs. My blood pressure went down and my cholesterol also went from sky-high to normal. My doctor still freaked out when I told him about my diet.
Obiesity, High Blood Pressure, and Diabetes are all considered leading causes of early death. I still can’t figure out why he thoughts I was in such a worse place after eating meat for 3 months when these three issues had all cleared up.
From that point I decided to stop listening to what my doctor said and start doing what was working for me. I do keep testing my blood every 3 months or so and things have been steady.
Remember, we are all different, so you might not see the same results. But it’s certainly worth a try. Also, I lost 10 lbs in the first week, and then hit a plateau l for the rest of the first month. It was the second month when I really started losing weight - like 25 lbs, and another 15 in the 3rd month.
      Good luck!

People who have a passion for junk food have an addiction problem. This is not a love affair with this type of food. I’m 60 in a couple of months …
    My N of 1
During the extreme lockdown here in the Philippines, January 2021 I was obese type 2, 94Kg/207lbs, (I’m only 5’6”) with pre-diabetes and high blood pressure. I was suffering from metabolic syndrome. I understood the comorbidity I had as a 57 year old would greatly affect me if I contracted the Rona. I had to lose fat, reverse hypertension, reverse my NAFLD and reduce my HbA1c.
Sitting in my armchair at the beginning of lockdown I saw that the keto/ketovore/carnivore diet claimed it could ‘cure’ my ailments. I watched a bunch of videos and tried to understand the linked papers supporting the claims. End result was that it simply made a lot of sense to me.
After procrastinating for a couple of weeks I saw a video by Ken D Berry, MD where he said ‘Just do it’! … so I did 🤓
8 months later, whilst still sitting in my armchair (most of the time). I had lost the 30kg/66lbs of fat that was required to get me down to a ‘normal’ BMI, I GREATLY improved my blood pressure to the point it raised my wife’s eyebrows, she’s a First Responder. My blood sugar was well back in to the ‘normal’ range and I vastly reduced inflammation. My energy levels went up dramatically.
I also reversed IBS that had controlled my life for 40 years (I lost jobs because of it), got rid of decades long debilitating heartburn, my Testosterone went up drastically and I stopped snoring … my wife is happy 🤓 I was ‘foggy’ & forgetful, I sometimes also slurred my words and forgot what I was talking about mid sentence, possible early stage MCI ? This has completely reversed! Undiagnosed but recognised by my family I got out of a bad case of lockdown depression.
A year ago I further decided to cut out most vegetables from my meat heavy Keto WOE, only adding on occasion a little onion, garlic, green peppers, tomato and a pickle here and there for some flavour… always salting to taste. Improvements are continuing with a pace with better mental health, blood markers, skin conditions (skin tags have also disappeared) etc.
Most recently I have noticed pain improving in my back associated with osteoporosis in my lower spine. I don’t sweat like I did earlier in life, slimmer or overweight. Also I am using old prescription glasses as I can see through them better, eye floaters are disappearing… possible eyesight improvements? I don’t go lobster red peel and go back to pale white after being in the Sun anymore … I hold a slight tan. Spider veins are clearing up on my outer thighs.
Simply eating nutrient dense meat, HEAVY in animal fat, eggs, seafood, salmon … single ingredient real food is all it took …
Whilst cutting out processed food, sugar/carbohydrates and seed/‘vegetable’ oils and most dairy.
We THRIVE when eating our evolved, species specific Proper Human Diet along with some intermittent fasting to mimic the way our ancestors survived.
I’m sure there are thousands upon thousands of people that have similar anecdotal stories to tell … Please tell them … get the message out there!

Hey, Jay! I really enjoyed this video and have looked at several others since. I did carnivore for 79 days and then gave into eating my homemade spaghetti that I prepared for guests (my son and his girlfriend). Went off for 12-14 days, a big disappointment in myself! Unfortunately, my guests are still staying in my home so I have been buying and preparing foods for them (on My dime, by the way!). I'm trying to get back to my carnivore, but it's very hard with them here. Why am I putting myself through this? I can't feed them my way of eating and it's too expensive to buy for their foods in addition to mine. My son and his girlfriend are supposed to be getting their own place, but it's taking longer than expected. They've been at my place since March 6th and I just want them to leave because my health is my priority. I love solitude and doing whatever I want and I am very unhappy, not only with the food, but also with the lack of exercise, which I used to do every day but now am unable to do while they're here. Any advice? I'm a good person but am being taken advantage of.

You’re being very generous. If it were me I would tell them that they’re responsible for their own food, and then just buy and cook for yourself. You’re doing more than enough just by letting them stay in your house. Carnivore involves good boundaries, and this would be a good boundary.

Yes, we shall see what she says as time goes by. I think for some people
It’s very hard to imagine such a different diet from what they’re used to.

57 years old, lost some weight on carnivore 4+ years same weight as college. Biggest thing I noticed is waking up like a 13 year old. Great feeling for a man. Have not had t-levels checked but can tell they have significantly increased on carnivore 😊

I've been a carnivore for 13 months now, and what woke me up was when I cleaned out my parents' home when they died and saw all the tablets they took for heart and diabetes and many other things. I'll be 60 years old this year and live in Sweden and as you say I feel well, exercise and my health values are at a good level.😊

you can get away with almost any diet up until 50. Have you found that carnivore helps with arthritis? I've been fasting
done some carnivore, but have not done it exclusively so I wonder if I did would it help arthritis? thanks !

I don’t think I have had arthritis, but I have had different joint aches (knees and one of my fingers) as well as lower back pain. All of this pain has cleared up.

I’m not sure. At my Costco it’s the same price in bulk as it is in rib steaks, so I never bothered to remember, but maybe someone else will know?

Carnivore is great, but the hip replacement can be dealt with better with structural manipulation and proper structural exercise.

Good job dude ! But how about muscle loss on carnivore diet. Im 69 and tempted to try it but I absolutely don't want to lose muscle. Anybody know one way or the other I would like to hear opinions.... thoughts.... experience's on the subject.

I’ve been putting on muscle, slowly but surely. My weight loss has slowed down over the past 3 months but I still lost a couple inches around my waist. It would be good to hear other people’s experience with this.

I rebuilt an entire lower right quadrant of my body after a week and a half in my sciatic nerve in my right hip popped back into place. I'm now running uphill sprints. I couldn't stand or even really walk on my right leg for 15 years so hip to ankle was completely atrophied. Nothing on the planet can built muscle better and faster than fatty red meat. Also the large quantities of taurine will make your bones denser. My sensitive teeth are now steel able to eat very hard pork cracklins like they are potato chips. You legitimately cannot lose muscle on carnivore unless you under eat and that is a problem for older folks. Your average man should be eating about 1.5 to 2 lbs of fatty meat per day.

Your friend isn't in enough pain, it seems, to be serious about trying something that is counter to the medical narrative. But bless you for trying. Maybe she will hit bottom and take carnivore seriously later. Hope that happens before she goes through surgery.
