And now their apology is so cringe.

The whole "were pulling content down to put behind a pay wall even our patreons need to pay for" smacks of greed and even with the "apology" and walking back of most of the issues people had with the move, it's a look into the deeper corporate culture they have and until there's a change in management it's probably going to happen again, but more quietly next time

When creators start the " poor me I need money or I'm gone" I'm out. I support a few creators whom I respect because they don't expect donations, members or patreon . I can't stand e begging.

All of their fans are swooning that they change their minds, but they’re totally ignoring the fact that the Watcher guys *already* resented having to put their “television quality” content on crappy old CZcams - and now that their fans have forced this change in their plans, when their streaming site inevitably fails, they will *absolutely* blame those same fans for “making” them stay on CZcams and will resent it even more. 😅 They’ll recover enough to continue, but plenty of people have seen the pig without its lipstick on, and whatever happens from here on out will be begrudged scrambling to save whatever people they can… because money/ego reigns. I feel bad for their fans, learning what those guys are really like.

If they’d have just have been a little more upfront, said YT isn’t giving them the money they really want, and they were trying to go into “real” TV type production - I think they’d have been blessed by everyone …. even if they wanted to do the streaming site - let the “leaving” breathe for a few months, and when they “came back” at the bigger scale that they wanted … I think a lot more people would have been fairly okay with it

I was thinking that. Lol, way back when in my teens, my viewing of 'content' was restricted to a TV with a schedule and they controlled what I could watch and when and the ad breaks per hour were wayyyyy higher. And TV production value, well.... its okay.
But CZcams, I decide what I want to watch, discover new 'shows' when I get bored, xan gunge watch tonnes of stuff from creators uploads. And a lot of the larger creators have better production values than TV. Without sounding like a granny - kids don't know how good they've got it today 😂

My family and I own a couple businesses. Our main bread and butter are the beach goods in the summer but we're open all year round and sell accordingly. It would be like us saying "Hey, our best selling item is this beach chair. Let's get rid of everything else and ONLY sell this specific beach chair. Even though we have other things to go with it."
People are not going to pay $6 for just your content when there is a platform that has a little of everything for free. Or if they are looking for just scary stuff there's already things like Shutter to cater to that. Best part, it has a variety of horror based content.
When you can pay $7 for base Netflix with ads or $10 for none, who the hell do these blokes think they are?

I cannot understand how "ad free" is so great. I use the 'skip ad' feature on the longer ads, but truly a couple of 10-20second ads isn't a big deal to me. When I watch free-to-air commercial tv - the ads go on for 10minutes & it's bloody tedious. So I'm not paying to watch ad free, simple. Modern creators, filmmakers, and studios needs to watch more Roger Coreman movies. Famously, all of his movies came in early and under budget. Not of them looked great, but all of them looked good enough to turn a profit. Shift the attention from effects and production to storytelling, keep the cast trim and the number of locations limited, and only bring in people with professionalism, and production is just... on rails.

Why does every big youtuber have to be a snake
Maybe because even to do social media as a job you have to have a rather large ego? Not to mention alot of people do it in the hope of 'get rich quick' with only a little effort. They seem to have taken themselves just a wee bit too seriously. If their shows were so great they would've gotten a streamer deal when they were greenlighting anything that walked.

Their streaming platform is doomed to fail. Ever since Netflix started getting ripped apart so Disney, Paramount, Peacock, etc could all have their own streaming platform, NONE of them have been profitable. Netflix was really the only one to be profitable, and even they're flagging now because they've been so gutted by the others.
Watcher will fail. Nobody wants to pay for multiple streaming services, especially since all their content can be and is found on "high seas" sites. And after this move? Even with the "apology" they apparent gave, I expect to see more traffic on the high seas...
As Clownfish said, people had cable and paid quite a bit for many channels including quite a few rarely watched so people swapped to cheaper streaming. But if you want all the current streamers you'll end up paying as much for them all as for cable. At least they all have multiple different shows, not "it's just us" for $6. No way.

CZcams loves to float "The end of X" "X if over" videos to the very forefront, I might not have known of a Bizarre "Game" and it's creator and magnitudes of Music, art and lore from just one guy, if it wasn't for his "X is finished".

I 100% understand any creator wanting to get out from under CZcams and its limitations. Especially when creators have to deal with videos conforming to monetization standards and CZcams taking its sizeable cut. That's why sites like Nebula were created. That said, I feel the people at Watcher overshot. Maybe they could've benefitted from a creator run site like Nebula, but an entire paywalled site just for their content seems overly optimistic.

(Edit: I wrote this early into watching, you go over some of this... but have it in my words anyway, lol)The dumbest part of their idea to move, was cutting off CZcams from new content. If they did things as they initially planned, they cut themselves off from future growth of their new platform by not attracting more people from CZcams. Their new plan makes more sense, but they already have a Patreon so they were already able to do that (making CZcams wait a month for the content that Patreon gets immediately).
But yeah, their price for their service is close to what I pay for Netflix here in Australia. I'm not paying that for one channel, especially when I can't even send a link to a friend to watch, because it would be behind a permanent paywall.
