    Hi Lachlan! Love your videos. I tried the Golden Ears challenge you mentioned with my Audio Technica ANC 9. I managed to finish the gold level! But holy crap that frequency band i.d. was hard! My head hurt from listening so closely lol.

    • @lachlanlikesathing
      @lachlanlikesathing  Před 9 lety

      Jonathan Bravo Good work! The frequency band test really is very very hard. It's not even a problem with hearing, it's also a learning task to associate the different sounds with specific frequencies.

    @Lachlanikesathing What headphones would you recommend that is good for string, vocal, orchestral. I listened to a lot of 2 Steps from Hell and and Epic orchestral type of music. I also have sensitive ears so I need to have the over the ears type. I am looking for a portable set that travels well and I can use while walking and commuting. I also wear glasses so don't want too tight of a fit on headphones. Your help is much appreciated as there just are so many headphones out there.

    Hey, I am trying to figure out whether or not I would like to get the audio technica's ath m50x or the m70x's. I will be mostly using them while in the studio for mixing vocals and etc. , however I would probably use them for casually listening to music. I usually listen to rap/hip-hop, do these headphones have enough bass to them because that is what I like to hear when listening to rap music. Which one would you recommend?

    Can you say that the M70X can be good for listening Metal or Hard Rock music? or maybe Blues? The question is because you said M70X is a really unforgiving headphone with modern/hot recordings, and if this is the case, The M70X have a good response to Equalization? I'm using always headphones with near flat response, with a little bump in 1khz - 3khz area. Thanks! You really do great reviews.

    Hey lachlan,
    i've got the M50x and M70x in cart. Was wondering which i should go for with respect to bass. I read that you say m70x is also good with the bass so a little confused, I was hoping to get them for my working out at the gym, I look more for the bass. so which would you recommend of the two maybe better.

    • @housepianist
      @housepianist Před 8 lety

      In this and the review of the M50x, he said the bass is quite a bit more present than the M50 and especially the M40x. The M70x doesn't have that bass boost so I'm guessing it's probably more neutral. He did say that the M70x is not a bass head headphone so if that's important to you, I would probably go with the M50x.
      Just my opinion. :-)

Many times i have been recommended both of these headphones since i make bass-heavy music such as dubstep, but are these truly good for producing/mixing/mastering or would you consider these more of a consumer headphone. thanks so much... i hope you can get back to me i've been researching headphones for 5 days straight now and i really can't seem to find a pair that fits my needs. Philips Fidelio X2. They are open back headphones but deliver nice bass for an open back pair. Not an enormous amount of low end but that bass is tight and delivers punch. If you want some of the bassiest headphones out there, then the Audio Technica ATH PRO 700 MK2.

    Hey Iachlan, I was really hoping you could compare the MSR7 bass to the M70x. You compared the M70x to the M70x, but not to the MSR7. I would suspect they would be very similar, as I've heard you describe the MSR7 as a tight punchy bass, without being bloated (in your sony vs. MSR7 review) but haven't heard your side by side comparison of these for bass. It seems for those who like cooler headphones that the MSR7 and M70x are the two to choose between when it comes to quality, and would appreciate any comments on differences between the two, if you can remember at this point :D

    I have thin Titanium wire-frame glasses and there is no problem with these headphones and my glasses. The more I listen to my M70X the more I like the sound; the bass is different than what comes out of my M50X, more clear and detailed. ***** I've just worked out an approximate EQ contour for the M70X that seems to do a good job in bringing up the bass a little to have a better balance with the mid-range. I'm running a tapered hump beginning at 30 Hz and ending at about 600 Hz with a peak at around 100 Hz. The peak boost is about 1.4 db, with an average of about 1 db over the region of boost. It seems to make the mix sound better balanced across a spectrum of music from classic rock to classical acoustic guitar. I find that it's easy to over boost the bass and thus have the low bass overwhelm the mid bass and mask bass string harmonics.
      You're right about the excellent soundstage of the M70X, there seems to be good spatial separation between the instruments and vocals. I'm learning to play electric bass and I find the M70X great as an instructional tool for hearing an artist's subtle nuances on the strings.

      ah well they are a great headphone, supremely comfortable - I had no problem with wearing glasses with the velour ear pads - you can wear them all day without your ears getting hot. My only issue with them was that the mids are very recessed but can be EQ'd up and the treble can be overbearing but in reality an alternative description would be 'extremely detailed'. I'm an M50 signature sound fan, so the DT770's are almost identical expect the midrange issue but as I said, that can be corrected. They beat the M50's hands down considering comfort, no question.
      Keep up the great reviews Lachlan!

  • @Schoolprojectsforus1
    @Schoolprojectsforus1 Před 9 lety

    Haha, so you also suffer the sibilant peaks of the msr7.
    I am surprised you don't find the m70x to be sibilant (since they are just as treble forward as the m50x)
    Do you still consider the msr7 to be another viable studio monitoring headphone? I think that the msr7 is perfect for a studio headphone at $250.

    • @lachlanlikesathing
      @lachlanlikesathing  Před 9 lety

      Head-odio-phile Fanatic I'd still be happy to use the MSR7 for studio monitoring, though I think I'd be slightly more happy with the 70X. I actually don't find the 50X sibilant, just metallic sounding. Do you find the MSR7 sibilant?

    • @Schoolprojectsforus1
      @Schoolprojectsforus1 Před 9 lety

      ***** Awesome! When you be by slightly more happy with the m70x, is it a preference to enjoy the m70x's less forward vocals than the msr7? Or is it that the m70x's treble and bass is more detailed than the msr7? I just want to know since as you know, I own the msr7 and would love to not buy the m70x because the signatures may be similar enough for me to not warrant it.
      I do find the msr7's 6khz region to be sibilant, though I think in your case, the 8khz is still in line with the upper mid region. I find that the 6khz is somewhat borderline painful, but other than that, pretty good except for occasional treble splashing in the 10khz region. :)

      +Arrian For comfort and sound isolation Bose is hard to beat. These would have not been nearly as isolating or comfy. The pads are so much softer on the Bose and it gives your ears more room. My ears always rub inside my ATHs unless I change out the pads, and the stock pads are definitely stiffer feeling than the Bose.

      Laser wise, LEC is very expensive and it could have some bad side-effects. Your eyes can go bad again after the eye correction and that pretty much is like wasting money. Just like the contacts, eye correction can't be done on every eye. It depends on the hernia.

      It really depends on preferences... If you want more bass, mids or highs really. The M70X and MSR7 are both cleaner than the M50X, but neither have that quantity in the low end. The choice between the MSR7 and the M70X boils down to whether you like your vocalists (MSR7) or you like your treble detail (M70X) more. Keep in mind the M70X is more comfortable and isolates better.

      Being a designer, means long hours sitting in front of the computer. M70X have best comfort among the three, least clamping force, and are least exhausting. They are light enough you can use them when commuting in public transport, etc. Sound-wise, I think M70X are superior to both MX50x and MSR7, especially if you are interested in details hidden in your music. They can be easily EQ'd to sound like M50X or any lesser headphones.

      Liver pool Thank you. I think M40X are better than M50X as studio monitors, and I would choose them too. But compared to M70X both suffer; less comfortable, and offer less layered / separated soundstage. As a designer, though, you may also try open back headphones, like AKG 701, AKG 712 Pro or some fine Beyerdynamics open back.

Because seriouly, sound quality doesn't matter that much when most of the thing you hear is gun sound.
