    Very clear explanation. I haven't used GIMP in 20 years so I think I'll start using it again as I don't feel like paying the monthly fees for Photoshop (I preferred the good old days when you would BUY software on a disk and own it ). Funny how I either never bothered to ask or just didn't think of what G.I.M.P stood for ...I just knew that I didn't like the sound of it. ha

    Hi Steph! Quick question, the ATEM Mini Pro has a hardware encoder. Does it only work if I use the ethernet connection method? If I use the USB-C connection, stuff like OBS recognises it as a webcam, will it be encoding using the ATEM or the software? Thanks alot.

    • @StephLeeTech
      @StephLeeTech  Před 4 lety

      Hi Zach! Great to see you back commenting :) Yes the encoder within the Atem Mini Pro works only if you use the ethernet connection method. The USB-C connection only uses the setup (camera + Atem Mini Pro) as a webcam and does not harness the encoding function of the console, which means your laptop/computer is the one doing all the hard work :p

    Best tutorial I've seen on this downstream keyers yet. Thank you. One thing that I noticed is that once you select the next image and keyed it, that the former disappeared. That is, the logo bug in the corner disappeared when you popped up the lower third and it thusly disappeared when the camera came up. I take it only one keyed image can be on screen at a time? Any way to get more than one? Let me guess, create yet another image with the bug already in the corner and thus both will show up because it's one image? Then, to do one camera with bug again the same as the lower third with bug and then progressively the two camera with bug. Yes? Any way to get the bug in the screen up-stream easily? Or dual transparency images on screen?

    • @StephLeeTech
      @StephLeeTech  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks for your kind comments! Yes unfortunately that is the limitation of the Atem Mini Pro, there is only 1 Media Player. The more professional switchers like the television studio has 2 media players which allows for more creativity and flexibility in terms of keying in the images. Your idea is brilliant! A great workaround the limitations of the AMP. Not so pretty but gets the job done, no one needs to know what we engineers do behind the scenes as long as it looks nice on the front, right? :p

    • @drdimento
      @drdimento Před 4 lety

      @@StephLeeTech exactly and thanks for the input. I'm currently working on an external means to control audio. I find that when using any form of plug in audio with Wirecast (Wc) there are inherent misunderstood audio mapping that often isn't completely controllable. To this end I have inserted a Zoom U-24 usb to the mix and what I find is that the USB power drain to run the thing not only heats up power supply to the MBP but also the computer for the additional processing (audio) to keep the mix working properly. Honestly, this latter point is part of the reason I'd like the AMP, so that I can keep multicamera computing out of the MBP . . while also having other upstream control options. I especially like the 4up Preview monitors and see this as a real PLUS in the feed and were it not for the 4up I'd go with just the AM, and do all the media control within the MBP. But this external audio feature could be plugged into the AMP and thus the audio would come embedded into the HDMI mix. Any thoughts of short comings in that idea? That is, I will use an external audio controls and feed it to the main camera, which is where I will want all audio to come from and thus when say an alternate camera is being chosen for the program scene in AMP, the audio from the Main camera will go in the HDMI stream to the MBP right?

    • @StephLeeTech
      @StephLeeTech  Před 4 lety +1

      @@drdimento Hi Dr Dimento you surely have creative ways to run the setup! For me personally I always like the sound and video to come from the camera (which is what you recommended), instead of them coming in separately (i.e. the video into the AMP and the sound into the AMP Mic jack). Perhaps I have had too many issues with the audio latency of the AMP in the past (even though it is fixed now by the audio delay functionality) but knowing that everything is coming in from one source makes me worry less about the setup as a whole. If you "upgrade" the audio before the audio source coming into the camera, meaning microphone->(ADD preamp)->camera, honestly the sound quality is pretty decent. I've also always explained in my videos that I do many projects in real life (not "just" a CZcamsr) so in real life scenarios I worry more about the overall picture as a whole. I would definitely sacrifice slight drop in audio quality versus the option of handling video and audio separately unless on days where I have a bigger crew and the shoot is more controlled like a sit down interview or studio commercial. But one VERY important point to note is that REMEMBER to press the AFV button if you are getting audio from THAT camera. Many times, and I have heard many cases, they start their stream or switch inputs and forget about the AFV = NO AUDIO :ppppp It is great speaking with you!

    • @drdimento
      @drdimento Před 4 lety

      @@StephLeeTech Awesome. Yes, I agree on a single source for the audio and preferred to control by some means that is safe. I too am a post producer and do other live productions, although the latter is new to me for the most part. I've always relied on post and have always been, until this year when I decided to go to LIVE production AND the market deemed it necessary, although I would much have preferred to learn it without pressure/stress. I'm still not sure on the way I'm going to go, but alas regardless of which way I go I have options now and I have yet another (small) mixer coming to reaffirm that pre-audio control to the camera and use that one camera as the audio source, while for the most part loving the Zoom U-24 other than it's use of a USB port which are quite limited on my 2013 MBP 2.7ghz i7.

    • @StephLeeTech
      @StephLeeTech  Před 4 lety +1

      @@drdimento Hi in a way it's the same for us too, live productions was not so popular in the past although we have been running them but I fully agree with you that times do change and we have to as well! To keep up with the times and to keep the bank balance "comfortable" :p But all I can say is just keep practising and it will become secondary nature. But live streaming has alot of potential hiccups, similar to weddings that we do, but I guess that's what keeps us alert for every event! :)

      @DJ JAY NYCE you need to make sure in ATEM Software under Downstream Key > Pre Multiplied Key is 'unchecked' / 'deselected'. Adjust 'Clip' & 'Gain' settings to remove the white background. I'm currently using Photoshop 2020, the best export method so far for PNG to ATEM is either File > Export > Quick Export as PNG or File > Export > Export As ... PNG, Transparent, 8-bit selected in the popup window settings. I've also realised if I create a PNG in gradient colour with fade to transparent (opacity 0) I need to make sure the 'Pre Multiplied Key' is 'unchecked' to make sure it retains the transparency of the lower third PNG.

      After I have choose in the downstream key with the png file, when it shows, it became all white background and the logo showed up to be strange and not the image of the logo.

    Thanks for responding, but my question is let me rephrase... the H2R program allows you to place a “LOGO” from a png or some type graphic... I want to use the “lower thirds that I’ve already created “ in this program like you bring in the logo.... is it possible to write some css code which is there to make the program pull in your designated graphic instead of its lower third function....

      @@tedz2000 Hi Tedz I really don't quite understand your question I am sorry about that. As far as I know, the Downstream Key allows you to bring in any transparent layer image as an overlay on top of your main camera. If your question is about writing CSS code on the H2R graphics maybe you can contact them directly to ask if it is possible because they are the creators of the app.

      Hi! I think you can! the Pro adds recording and livestreaming from the switcher. Downstream Key seems to be available for the non Pro version too
