- Nice clean original car. Great car to drive long distance. Just drove it 2800 miles on a cross-country See The USA Tour. Notice the back seat fold-down desks and foot rests. These were the greatest cars back in the 60's. American Made Detroit Products.

Love these old high compression Cadillac engines. This car could really get down the road in 1966. Roomy car inside. Wow.
My Dad had one of these virtually identical, except with leather seats. Those lights over your shoulder in the back seats could be rotated, and you have a switch to turn it on and off right there. My dad's was quieter and the engine ran better. One tray table was partly broken, but it was good both closed and open, just moved around a bit in-between. The stereo and speakers were excellent. And it had air shocks in the back. This was one car that was better sitting in the back seat than riding shotgun.

Yes, I agree these were the greatest cars back in the day in terms of quality, luxury, comfort, style, and power. Th 1965 and 1966 are my favorite Cadillacs. My Grandfather actually had one similar to this, except a blue vinyl top, and he replaced it with a '69 Fleetwood Brougham. As a kid, the vast amount of legroom and the fold down foot rests were what made an impression. My Sister reminded me how she used to play on the floor of that car it was so large. But talk about presence!!! Cadillac really lost it for me with the wholesale transition to FWD.

I drove one like this back 1980 when I got my driver's license. It was my mother's car with the exact same color only it was black inside and no vinyl roof. My neighbors were shocked on how well I could park that monster with only a half of foot in front and back of the car. I was a small 16 year old guy at about 5'8 and tipping the scales at 97-100 pounds soaking wet. I sure miss that car! :)

Hunter Green Metallic W/ Black top & Black All Leather Int. Oh yeah it had all options.. including cruise control… that 429 is smooth as a baby’s ass too.. great motor.. super torque monster..

7:20 the trunk close assist is a simple mechanical cable and spring loaded pneumatic cylinder (very similar to a screen door closer); the roller and lever on the right trunk hinge pulls up the rod of the closing cylinder attached to the cable running across the floor to the moveable trunk latch- close quickly and it latches before the strike is pulled down- quite ingenious. Later models in 1974 or ‘75 began using the electrically powered lowering strike plate.
My first car was a 1964 Cadillac deVille. A total rust bucket, but very fast with the 429 V8, Carter AFB carburetor and TH400 transmission.

Electric Cars. Carbon Fibber bodies by Fisher or Fleetwood.

Absolutely. Back in 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham, was considered a true competitor, by Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars. As Cadillac’s were so well built. Sadly this isn’t the case today in 2019.

This Cad likely had the original Cruize Control used on GM’s Buicks and Cads in the mid ‘60s. The control on the dash had a dial with the speed desired; once speed was set, a switch was set to Cruize. The problem was that if you were well below the set speed, a solenoid slammed-down the accelerator for you to get the car up to set- speed-a somewhat scary episode if you were not ready for it.
The other problem was this C/C was governed by a pair of flying weights inside the C/C case and driven by the speedo cable so when going thru big road dips and bumps, the orbits of the weights would change and the car would surge/slow giving a sickly feeling. It did work well though if you knew how to work with it. This system only lasted a couple of years and then an electronic type was developed.

I drove a 59 Cadillac convertible on a road trip across southern Germany and into France on a nice slow back-road tour. Amazing how when we stopped anywhere the folks come to see and ask question. Biggest question was always about how much fuel it takes! Then at any gas stops, the curious come to watch the dials spin on the gas pumps. Yes, these cars take more gas than the very small engines common across Europe!
Bought it a year ago. Even tough it's a timely backstep to the 81 Fleetwood. The change was totally worth it. Can't fit one standard german parking lot...but I get through.

Trunk did not operate by vacuum. The rear tail light bulbs required bumper removal.

My favorite Fleetwood Broughams of that era are the 1965-1968 with the 1966 as the pinnacle because of its combination of real wood door trim, real wood folding trays, and foot rests (the plainer 60 Special model did not have them). Later Broughams left the footrests but removed the real wood trim (cost) and folding trays (cost and perhaps safety). What was so great about American luxury cars of that era was the variety of colors and trim...a buyer could really personalize their vehicle. This nice example deserves a quality repaint. The only downside was that the build quality of the body was not as nice as the Lincoln Continental. You can hear the hood and the deck lid clang when closed and the air deflector between the front and rear doors is cheap plastic. My 1966 Continental's hood and trunk close with a very solid thunk and there is no cheap air deflector between the doors.
Yes, all very correct. I have a 66 Continental convertible as well. The only complaints I have with the Lincoln are the poor quality window switches placed where water can get in them and the wiring harness and fuse box location, making any electrical diagnostics very difficult.
@@rodneyracer I have had my 1966 Lincoln over 30 years. The small hood makes repairs more difficult. Several years ago the hood release cable broke...it consists of several wire strands wound together. The replacement release cable also snapped until a third cable finally held together. I remember the cost and frustration of that repair.

In 1966, Cadillac produced 5 models in the "Fleetwood" series: Eldorado convertible (same size as DeVille conv.), Sixty Special sedan (longer wheelbase), Brougham sedan (new for '65, same size as Sixty Spec. w/ a padded vinyl roof), Seventy-five sedan (extended wheelbase with second row jump seats), and Seventy-five limousine (same extended wheelbase w/ jump seats and driver partition to be chauffeur driven). Sixty Special and Brougham trims would later be merged into a single model w/ or w/o vinyl roof, then became simply Brougham in '71 with the vinyl roof standard.

I think most of the clocks from that era stopped working about the time the warranty ended.. Usually it is dirty points on the magnetic winding device.

where ever this guy got the idea that back when this car was top of the line[1966] it was driven by old decrepit unhealthy men.is ludicrous. he should have been at the fontainebleau;eden rock ;wellington hotel entrances .in 1965 when this model came out it was the premier car at the eden rock hotel ,they have a half circle driveway entrance and every color cadillac made was parked along that circle as they were the cars of the guest .not one was decrepit old man. all were wealthy execs on vacation during the season!!

yes, radio is original. speedo cable needs cleaning and lube. I suppose it deserves a little cleaning after spinning like crazy for 50 years....

That’s patina Nowadays…. It actually means it needs to be repainted.. I would put that color rite back on it… or you could do a millennial job on it. Ie Cut it ,drop it , set the wheels sideways, weld the door shut. DONT PAINT IT. Cause rust looks great in all millennial cars .. & put huge wing on the deck lid… that means the trunk.. it’s that big compartment in the rear… nice car.. so far…. Please Don’t let some fkn asswipe get to it.. oh yeah it needs some 45 in. Rims … dubs ,, rite. There it is .. let that baby rust out so it looks good

I actually mentioned this is a 60 series.. I didn't give the total series number which is 68169 P In the 50's the body style number started with the number 60-- The body style numbers got more complicated in the early 60's
