  • ND is 7, and is having a hard time seeing the board in school. He complains that he can't see far away. He reverses letter and numbers: 2 and 5, b and d, p and q. He reverses words such as saw/was and on/no. He has frequent headaches that began about a month ago. He does not have an eye turn (strabismus). At times he squints.
Testing indicates that the source of the difficulty at distance and the headaches, actually stems from a problem at near. Binocular Vision Dysfunction means difficulty using the two eyes as a team (eye-eye coordination), difficulty with tracking (pursuits) and jumping from one word to the next (saccadic dysfunction). These are vision issues and are not issues that can be solved by PT, OT, or speech-language professionals.
At the end of the 1st progress assessment, 3 months, his parents have noticed that he is now reading faster, has neater handwriting, and with less strain. in the past, he had headaches every day and he now has fewer headaches. His mother remarked that: "He has such an improvement with his reading".
His therapists note: he is very well-behaved and really sweet. He has an upbeat, easygoing personality which makes him a pleasure to work with! He is very motivated and he and Mom always make the effort to do his home activities.
