- A recreation of a Thames Television start-up from 1969.For a short period of time Perpetuum Mobile was dropped as the first piece of music,to be replaced by the one used here,Pizzicato Rockalong, played by The Group 30 Orchestra.Followed of course by Salute To Thames.

Love the very Astute voice of Mr Elsemore
Ah yes, very nostalgic. I remember as a boy of around 8 years old (that would be around 1972) standing up and possibly even saluting the Thames Television tune (don't tell anyone though) :)
Lol
No, ITV in four regions, Granada from Winter Hill, YTV from Emley Moor, ATV from Sutton Coldfield and Thames/London Weekend from Crystal Palace started 625 lines colour in November 1969.
Dear ITV, please bring this back and get rid of the new garbage that we have to put up with today :).
Agree
@crazyclive never too late
1:45. This is Thames Television, operating on the London transmitters of the Independent Television Authority.
First time I've heard Pizzicato Rockalong. I rather like it!
I believe the official start date for ITA Uhf 625 line colour transmissions (also receivable in b/w) was I5th November 1969 in the London, Midlands, Yorkshire, and Granada regions.
BBC1 also began 625 line colour on this day. No doubt test transmissions were receivable before the official start date. Before the 625 services began both BBC1 and the ITA stations could only be received in black and white in 405lines Vhf. BBC2 had been in 625 lines colour since 1967.
Feels like yesterday but how things have changed
you could dance to the start-up music
Love the ident all the tradition landmarks but in the background the then nearly new post office tower ,look next to Big Ben ,superb
A re- creation indeed. BBC 2 was the only colour TV broadcaster in 1969. Colour came in, from memory in Autumn 1970. Thames was broadcasting in black and white throughout 1969.
Except Thames started colour transmission in November of 1969.
That's what I was commenting about earlier. The one at 1.57.
Who was the announcer at Thames Television, forty-seven years ago?
Philip Elsmore.
Lord Elsmore of Thames
WAS there from the start
Previously announced for ABC Weekend Television as did many of the Thames TV announcers.
Philip Elsmore was legendary with that RP Voice
Ah the nostalgia - especially from around 1:50
@mrmethane10 I definitely didn't get up early just to stand in front of the TV and conduct this. Absolutely no way. Nope. Just didn't happen.
