    Have YOU ever made a lateral career move? If so, what was the biggest benefit?

    Here's what I did... I knowingly took a job at a bad bad company in order to break into an industry. Then I switched companies in a lateral move but took my loyal clients with me and gave myself a 50% raise in the process.

    I'm considering a lateral move now and it's mainly because I lacked confidence in my current role. I feel like the change and lateral move will not only give me a fresh start but provide a platform to expand my experience and grow. thank you for the vid and can I add that sleepy pooch behind you is SO cute! :)

      I did the same thing recently. struggled in my last job so I made a lateral move to another org that would train me and provide me with a chance to reset my career while allowing me to work on big projects to help me gain valuable work experience. So far it's going really well.

    I am having a hard time. I got offered for a lateral move. It has no adjustment on compensation and im worried that I wont be able to hone my skills in my previous position, or maybe recruiters wont prefer employees like me in the future.

    Assessment is the key for lateral or totally switching careers. A few weeks ago I told my subscribers how to know if it is time to change careers or just a venue in the one you have. So now you know you have to change careers completely. What do you do? How do you decide? In a nutshell I advised to first list all sectors of work fields. IE Medical, social work, law enforcement, business, technology, trades. That gives you the general interest of where you want to be. For example--all business for me is out. BUT, you may love the art of the deal. Then you list the jobs in that sector. IE trades ---electrician plumber mechanic. Business--marketing, finance, stockbroker. Medical--nurse, doctor, physical therapist. This seems simple but it works. You just narrow down sector then narrow down all jobs in that sector. Then you make your plan how to get there. Most people when they want to change careers just go into panic mode. The formula above makes it simple and stress free to see what you want to do next for forty hours a week. Hope this helps---Charles

    I had the opportunity for a lateral move recently however my boss promised a promotion within 6 month which i have been working to get for the last few years. Although i’m very interested in the work of the other position i decided to stay for my promotion. I’m not sure if i’ve made the right choice…

    I currently work in a warehouse and I’m at the highest level before management, the management isn’t going anywhere any time soon, my boss offered me a job in customer service where I could have a better chance to move up in the office, I prefer physical labour but the office position will be more money, help I don’t know what to do, I feel like I shouldn’t refuse

    Im considering a lateral move at the moment but mainly because im tired of managing a team. Before I worked in sales and I was pretty happy. I got a promotion to an inside sales team (been there for 3 years). I found that managing a group of people is just exhausting. I want to apply to another sales position but as a solo within the same company. Any advise?

      @DrSuzanneDoyleMorrisinclusiq  Před 4 lety +3

      Managing a team IS indeed exhausting and uses a completely different skill set ;) You’re smart to see the difference when most orgs ‘reward’ those who are great individual contributors with a completely new role! Ask your boss about new services or products they’d like to explore, (or better yet, have your own ideas) explaining why you’d be a great fit for this nascent role. Every org needs great individual contributors!
