  • Just a quick video showing how I modified my 1996 12 valve to be shut off without having to pop the hood to kill it. Shutoff was broken for months so I finally came up with a cheap solution. Works!

      You could even run it through your dashboard if you wanted to haha. I just put it in the easiest place possible.

      The way that solenoid is designed is pretty dumb to begin with anyway. And with it being a manual pump it kind of made more sense to me to just bypass the electronics.

    Another option is to rig it up the same way you do here but use a choke cable. I used the Edelbrock brand cable and it has a clean look to it and is just mounted on the lower left of my dash by my off road light switches. It looks clean and I can take the keys out and let my truck warm up or stay running in the winter without worrying about someone stealing it or a kid putting it in gear.

    I recently bought a 96 Dodge dually with a 5.9 ltr engine. Had the same problem. Went to a salvage yard and bought a used fuel shut off solenoid for 55$. Installed it and had the same issue. It has to be the inline fuse wire.

    *Update* so at the time of this video, I was unaware that this shutoff was available on amazon for $30. They are expensive as a dealer item, but cheap on amazon. I would either do this as a temporary fix or shut it off by hand by opening the hood and manually doing it until the new one came. Unless you just like feeling like you're driving an old manual shutoff tractor, in which case, this is the way to go 😊

      @@midwestoenr4905 Forgive me for my ignorance, but how would that wear the synchros if you're already in gear? Wouldn't the shift forks not be pressing on them? Every mechanic I've spoken to says that stalling, which is essentially what I'm talking about, doesn't hurt the vehicle one bit, but anyone can be wrong, even pros.

    I have a 12 valve Cummins and it won’t crank, it has new batteries and a new starter but still won’t crank

    • @bargainbear1483
      @bargainbear1483  Před 2 lety

      Make sure you have power at the starter. I'd probe the power feed wire with a test probe while someone inside is turning the key. If you do, your new starter might be bad. If you dont, you either have a break somewhere in your power supply cable (I've had that happen on a cummins) or you probably have a bad ignition switch.
