if i didn't know better this looks like a regular tv show except better with out commercials
Amen to that! All the sponsor crap and commercials have ruined the Speed channel for me.
The whole video is a commercial
Again, thank you so much! Husband has this gen (...and others) and it's awesome to understand what he is saying!! Please keep it coming! Thank you, The wife.
Well aren't you a keeper
Epic wife
That is a beautiful truck, where I live they are just a memory. Back in High school you either dreamed of a 12 valve Cumins or a 7.3 with a turbo.
I dreamed of a 12 valve in high school. Now I own one.
David Does Iâm tryna do the same
Yeah when I was in school we ran Old Ford HighBoys and idi diesels, some of the more unfortunate guys drove square body Chevrolets haha. My senior year I bought an â84 F250 4x4 with a 6.9 and a 4spd and that was one sharp truck, but, thanks to a blown head gasket I drove my uncles 93 F250 4x4 that had a ZF5 and a 7.3 Turbo. I remember picking my buddy up on the way to school and some dude was driving slow as hell up a pretty long, steep hill so I went to fourth gear and passed him âon the hillâ and my buddy looked at me with his eyes wide open and said âDamn this thing picks UP speed on a hill!!â... we had a pretty good laugh cause there was NO passing anybody when going up a hill with the old 6.9 hahaha. The P-Pump 12 valves came out in 94 but around here people didnât really start juicing them up till around â99 and 2000, those P-Pump trucks were one hell of a game changer
I have a 1990 12V and a 2000 7.3âŠ. muahahaha
With a manual shift, icing on the cake. Awesome!!!!
This was a great video. Exactly the info I was looking for and super well-made.
The technician made it look easy!
i like the 12 valve content. would have liked to see more how to on the parts you instead. there isn't very many good how to and detailed videos of performance mods like that. it would help some of use out but great video. great company
I was not expecting that much of an increase in torque, that's insane!
Governor spring kit bumps torque up significantly
Exactly, horsepower is worthless in a diesel, we want torque!
@@theninja001false
This guy was working so fast I thought he was getting the truck ready for SEMA!
As always todd you guys are awesome with the 12 valve and love your videos. Keep up the good work! All the way from mcalester oklahoma!
PowerDrivenDiesel so I love 12 valve trucks and I am going to build one I would like to have about 1000 horsepower. Thats why I would like to just hang out with guys sometime and talk about what all I need besides the obvious. That's also why I am so tuned into yalls youtube channel and the resurrection of frienkenstien!
Such a great video, I was wondering what I have to do to my 12V to get around those number! Thank you for breaking it all down and can't wait to do something similar
Just need a package like the link below powerdrivendiesel.com/product/diesel-tech-fuel-package/
Awesome! I have a 89 Dodge dully with 5.9 Cummins you guys should use on a double the power video
That's amazing, great job guys! You made it look easy!
Great video guys!
@Ruben Deacon stfu bot
That is a beautiful truck for its age, I would consider trading if got my 6.7
Awesome video,y'all are awesome
Verry good video!!! i hope you gonna make same type of video but on different engine like a old gm 6.5
Exactly what I was looking for thanks
Can you guys do a video on fixing the notorious 2nd gen steering issues?
Wow huge gains!!!
these guys do good work ! just recieved my afc live but still building my engine so im stoked to put it in
I like your videos! I have a 96 3500 12 valve! I'm new to the diesel world!
Same here, mine is 97, got it 2 days ago for business I have
Great video!!
Awesome video guys
I really like the shape of the modded torque curve. To me, that is how a diesel torque curve should look. Low end torque to the max.
agreed. if i want to run like a gasser ill run a gasser
Awesome video, Not even 2.5x the torque, not 3, but 3 sounds cooler. That was one clean truck.
I just bought a â94 Dodge 3500 with the 5.9L i6 Turbo Diesel. I would love to do something like this to mine.
Nice video
, whate a huge torque increse
Great vidđ
You guys should do a governor spring installation video
yes do this i just did mine last night it was a headache and a half due to prev owner took out the smallest spring for some reason and took a few words to figure it out but i was only able to find 1 half done video on CZcams about it and if you do it do an in depth one for people
vids of ALL the steps in this build IE timing and governor spring / I know you have a AFC vid already
Deboss garage channel
Look at decent garage
P.s I had the AFC live on my other truck and loved it. I still have the truck but itâs been in a crash that took it off the road. I definitely liked the 12 valve 5 speed manual better than the 24v with with the automatic. Iâm considering swapping out drive trains.
Notice how the real power guys donât bother with a âcold air intakeâ or as I call them âhot air intakeâ
Finally someone understands holy shit every truck on kijiji its got a cold air intake like you spent 300 on dollars on that extended intake lmaoo đ€Łđ
I bought mine with one. I hate it. Gets filthy quick
I have a 6.5l and I went the route of just putting a k and n right on the stock box better than the 300 dollar kit lol
Playing the white stripes at 7:25...nice!
I bought 3k gov springs and afc live from you guys, what a difference over stock.
Did you install
Great Job !
nice job, i wish i can put DD 6.6 in my gmt330...
Great video
Thanks!
I would love for you guys to do something to my truck ive watched this video a couple of times just fascinating slowly buying what i need to do mine all at once đ
Double how much diesel you buy a week with these simple mods. Great video and inspiration for my 12v
very nice video thank yu
Can't wait to show this to my teacher
Great video! I think imma do a very similar build to my truck, do you know what the fuel mileage was after done installing all the upgrades?
That torque wrench is next level!
Snap-on for the win!
Same one I got in the same color haha I love that thing. Itâs cool it can do the degree settings on the bigger Cummins injectors
You should do a video on how to do the fuel timing please. You speed by that part
In your horsepower doubling series, I think it would be cool to see if it was possible on the older IDI engines like the 6.2 or 6.5
those engines can barely hold together in stock form. hardly anyone upgrades them. much more potential out of a 6bt
6.6 7.3 12v is what ya upgrade no 6.0s or older diesels ull blow ur truck up
Great video đđ„Powerđ„
Thank you Bruce
Subscribed and liked đđœđđœ
Man I need this to my tuck. Where you guys located. Hard to find a good diesel mechanic in nyc
Just ran across this video and was curious what the mods you have done in this video would cost and if there are any other mods needed to ensure reliability and durability with the added power.
I will continue watching no harm done I hope just personal opinions Iâm curious to see what will come of this I currently drive a Ford F-150 with 300,000 original miles with its original motor who nows I might decide to drop a cummins in it but I thank you for the clear explanation of everything it does make a little more sense my apologies non the less great sounding CUMMINS ...
Careful swapping a Cummins into a half-ton, a fully dressed 12 Valve weighs over 1,200 lbs! A 4BT could probably safely work & still have more torque than your 5.4 Triton, while also nearly doubling your MPG's.
If you youngsters want a racing truck, put a turb'd Viper v-10 in it. Trucks are made for hauling. Not HAULIN'. My stock '97 12v has never failed to easily pull any load I've ever put in it. When I want to drag race, I bring out my 2.5L Dodge turbo powered trike.
tigerseye Ok.
True man. Im taking it easy on a 99 F350 crew cab zF6 spd manual. 4X4 longbed. Stock under 200kmiles
Awsome!
Nice info-video - thanks for that.
I did play (~300 hp) with my '97 Cummins, 2WD, 5-speed manual and pulled (too) heavy loads, close to 22K total trailer wight and yes, the truck pulled pretty good but it started
to eat tranny's.
I saw that you took a heavier clutch disk but haven't heard anything about the NV 4500
and like to know if you suggest to do any changes to the gear box too?
Thanks again and take care!
! did a few of these things to my truck and the biggest problem now is axle wrap when pulling my 5th wheel up a steep long hill...the engine wants to go but the tires are gripping to tight...traction bars/ladder bars are next I guess...
Great video for possibilities for a 12V, but not super helpful for a diy guy. Would be nice if you did several videos that detailed the steps of what you are doing other than here is what we are going to do and three seconds later, âitâs doneâ next step.
I wish yall would do a video on doubling horsepower on a first gen ve pumpđ
New subscriber here! I have a 94 second gen 12 Val with a single 74mm turbo 5x14 injectors 4K gov springs and triple disk converter. I have had EVERYTHING built inside my jasper transmission and I mean everything!! Im around 850 HP. Iâm getting ready to put a fas flow fuel pump system on it but I want to add an additional turbo I just donât know witch one to go with. I have had a lot of people tell me different things but just wanted your opinion.
Love the videos! Thanks
850 hp truck you would of already had to have a upgrade fuel system.... next time you talk about a truck you dont have with the power you couldn't afford nake sure you make sense
I'm sorry to break it to you buddy but you have less than half that horsepower
Make a video to go more in depth on the installs please
Thanks for the excellent video! I have used two of those clutches from South Bend and they are a bit stiff on the pedal especially for all the city driving I do. If you drop down to the 400 hp clutch it's a softer and more stock like pedal. I'm also curious what was the boost numbers you needed to achieve that horsepower/torque level. I've had my share of blown head gaskets on stock turbos and head studs. I've blown 2 head gaskets at 40 PSI on stock head bolts and two at 40 PSI with head studs. 17* timing. Needless to say I made some upgrades. đ
@@pddofficial Awesome, Thanks!
Tips on how to get the tamper screw out??
Dont even need to do any kf thoes upgrades to add much more power. Just tweak to p pump and there ya go more power.
Having a lift makes doing the clutch and the exhaust so much easier. Doing an exhaust without a lift is not fun. At least I'm not enjoying it :)
Nice.
Would these kits work in a marine application for example 210 HP 6bt Cummins
Luckily itâs not a auto....or that would be the next episode...
Makes me wish it was an automatic for the extra video! đ
Grocery Getter transmission comes first.
With input shaft & 5th gear issues the manual tranny is better than the auto but not by a lot.
I have an auto... If I have my trans rebuilt, can it be built to handle this power level? How hard is is to convert to manual... I'm already planning on taking the engine out and rebuilding it... It's got 350k on it...
toadamine you can build the auto to handle over a thousand horsepower itâs not hard and itâs not really crazy expensive all diesel auto trans are really not built to handle more then stock some can barely handle stock
I need a 4k Gsk kit and 60lb valve spring full tutorial from you guys.
Valve spring install is very straight forward. The gsk is a little trickier, one because in situ it can be a bit like playing operation with the springs and shims. A dixie cup with the bottom cut out, a hook and magnet make that much safer from dropping anything into the pump. Setting up the spring preload is up to you. Some guys go by clicks, others (like me) use a caliper.
I figured that out since then and I picked my truck up today built 47re now... stoked triple disc billet input/flex plate/gear band, ect... So I need the 4k gov's because of the low stall I think it will help. its bone stock right now putting afclive on tmrw.
Had Dean opted to purchase a performance turbo, which one would you have recommended with your 400HP kit, and what kind of gains would it bring? Thanks.
No link to the in cab afc fuel adjuster?
nice to see the pilot bushing was swapped for a pilot bearing for the input shaft of the transmission, that was a killer for the Getrag 360 on the older trucks. Do all nv4500 trucks have that pilot bearing or was that just a southbend thing?
hi i've already get the clutch, the afc control and the exhaust, what more i need and how much cost, valves injector and plate?
Please do a ve pump truck. I want to see 500 horses with my truck but I don't want to change to the 14mm head on the injection pump
Any advice for getting a wireing harness for a 94 12V ???
Anything need to be done with the head gasket or valve springs?
When you bump the power up that much are head studs needed? Also what about the stock intank pump, does it need upgraded to keep up with the extra fueling?
So How Much Boost Did It Make Stock And Modified? That's some vital info that was left out!! Why??
I have a 97 Newmar front diesel powered by a 6BT and running an Allison 5 speed transmission. Would these upgrades work on my engine?
Would you need to upgrade your clutch if you got a decent turbo and intake system
Parabens
what kinda fuel mileage can you expect if you keep the AFC LIVE to a modest level?
Does the AFC live work on a VE pump?
Interesting video. Just a coup;le of questions. What do you lose in the conversion? Increased Horse Power doesn't come free.Injection timing, has this been set up on an apparatus similar in concept to a Hartridge machine? Original Injector timing has been set to gain max burning of fuel at the moment of injection. Plus all injectors are bench tested and pre-set, equi spray patterns verified and formation of sprays checked inc delivery pressure to each injector.Spray patterns checked and delivery valve closure verified for efficiency and leakage. That plus the spray pattern of the injector determines the efficient generation of power from the cylinder. If the injection phase is early, then the flame travel / ignition will be early which immediately has a slowing effect on the piston travel. With all that in mind, what exactly has been lost, in able to gain the figures which are quoted? I am not slagging it off, just curious. The engine has been rated at a Horse Power for given RPM, increasing the RPM, unless original dyno info is available does not necessarily mean an increase in Brake Horsepower.. Again, I am just curious.
Thank you for this video; great information. What would be the cost these days for all the upgrades (minus labor cost) you show in this video to achieve the power numbers on the 12-valve Cummins?
Around $3400 with clutch,exhaust,intake powerdrivendiesel.com/product/diesel-tech-fuel-package/
Question
Could you re-gear first to 35 inch tires. Iâm not real sure on adding gadgets to make my 97 Ram 4x4 , itâs automatic transmission. I would like to double the horsepower for a stock truck , hauling & towing and occasional cruise night
I think the fact that the old Cummins engines were so unstressed is one of the reasons they lasted so long. My Dad had a 1992 Ram 3500 with the Cummins and a 5 speed. We ran a 40' gooseneck and it never failed to pull what we needed it to. I also would get 22 mpg running empty. We sold it with over 450,000 miles and as far as I know it's still going strong. The only complaints are the truck was very noisy with rough suspension. It also rusted pretty bad
Under stressed is the best. Iâve got a 2000 bmw 323i, 2.5l inline 6 gas engine ~172hp ~189tq . Itâs 100 miles away from 249K and itâs an 5 speed auto. Original engine and tranny, no rebuilds. Itâs slow but it just keeps ticking.
â@@FishFind3000 Still driving my 94 12 valve have not had it forever .Picked up my 5 year old dog in it.Bought the AFC ,do have the knowledge ,just not the balls or the heart ,my dog would never forgive me it is his truck i just drive it. Boss just called me back to work.Maybe I get another 5.9 .Will the dog know if i get another 5.9 or other ? I hear tell he knows "his truck" from a block away and we live on the highway.he aint giving up that P-pump easy. Shoot 285000 just about half life anywhooo. If i can get another maybe this will just be my Reeseys,
Yep I got 1 also. Love it
Awesome Job what else could you of done to get to 400hp at wheels and more torque! Change the turbo? Cold you go washer Fluid eject?
I always thought taking the plate out damaged the engine? You guys would know better though!
well i mean its a trade off between engine life and power, at 145hp itll do 1million miles, at 300hp it might do 600k miles, at 500hp it might do 250k miles, all depends alot on what supporting mods go with the upgrade and how much the truck is thrashed, it shouldnt blow up a month down the road though unless something was really messed up on install
That's all well and good but HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Was a new lift pump installed?
How about testing with an aftermarket intake/air filter. As the exhaust has been updated, how about the intake side ?
Do you guy's handle or do any-thing w/the 24v vp-44 trucks? My truck is a 99, 24v/vp44 pump,Nv4500,4wd,3500.thx.
Great video for sure. Can stuff like this happen to the 24 valves as well?
czcams.com/video/b_LkKm9WQU4/video.html their video doubling the hp on a 24v
Torque monsters
Just curious. What would the power look like if you didnt change the timing?
How do the runs compare at the same rpm?
10:36 you look 12 feet tall
What's the total price of this package? Which clutch would I need to use for an Eaton 13 or 15 speed?
That was a 25 year old truck. How much did it cost to get that extra HP? What if you have the stock auto transmission for 95? Can it support the extra power?
Wait you made 800 ftlbs ... That is just insane
@@pddofficial golly
@@pddofficial what kind of fuel mileage does it get before and after?
890 actually.
@@jonsmith2217 I know your comment is old but at 400hp if you donât drive like an idiot and it isnât tuned to be Smokey you will get more MPG than stock.
I know that seems like to much torque tbh
One of things I'd love to do with a 5.9 12 valve. I badly want one of these trucks.
Total price of install would be nice to know, even if its just an estimate or ballpark.
