    When I saw your first video with the Shimano Vanquish I was really impressed with the amount of fish you were catching. I was also impressed with the ease of it’s operation. I would like to request your doing more videos on how you locate crappie and whether you rely heavily on side imaging or not. I think it would be very entertaining to see how you locate and catch crappie. I purchased my first box of jigs from Moonshine Crappie Jigs and can’t wait to try them out this spring. Thanks for your videos.

      if I have to be honest, i am not good at that. I always jump from brush to brush until i find something, but i don't know what they should be doing and where they are supposed to be. Now, once I find them... i think I'm really good and really efficient. I also have unique experience with crappie tackle. I do have my strengths, but finding crappie is not one of them : ) I try to learn, i know the basics, but when i go to the lake finding the fish always takes a lot of time for me. I will keep ur post in mind though and perhaps share my thoughts out loud, so u can at least hear how I approach the day

    Hats off! You just made my life easyer. Planning to buy vanquish. One thing that i dont get: micro jigging whit 2500 size vanquish 50mm handel. In my brain the answer is 1000 size body. I really like your channel and i cant wait when the stella fj arrives on that tabel of yours. I fish you the best and more subscribers for this channel.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety +1

      I will be buying a second Vanquish, but probably 2500 as well. The 1000 size weighs only 145 grams - I dont have rods that will balance well with that reel. If you try jigging with my 2500 - you may change your mind. Resistance and Inertia are ZERO. FKN ZERO. The weight is 165 gram, which is already pushing it and too light for most of my rods. But the bigger reel has bigger spool which makes line management so easy. No tiny curly coils that u get on these 1000 size spools. And I have bigger gears inside, which means this reel can be used for YEARS before any kind of significant deterioration of the drive train. And finally, every few weeks I will accidentally hook to a bigger fish when I jig, and that reel has the drag and the gears to handle even a musky without a sweat. I know it because I did it.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety +1

      I know what you mean though, and I agree with your point, except for TWO reels: the Shimano Vanquish and this Daiwa Luvias 2020. These reels are so light that buying the 1000 size doesn't make sense, unless you live in japan and u are gona put it on some 300$ 5 foot JDM rod.

    • @leets99

      I am new to this ultra light game. I just want to give detail feedback as a beginner on JDM rod and reel buyer. I did get a good deal on yamaga blanks Lupus 71(trout rod). Its 96 gramms and feels balanced whit 160 gramm stradic ci4 1000. This rod does not have crazy small micro guides. Now whats my struggel? I want to paired whit a metal body reel and it can be 160g or lower. Its hard to make up my mind on reel size,spool size,handel lenght and retrive lenght. Iffs and butts:) dream reel would be matt black stella 1000 fj 45mm handel , 78cm retrive. Anyways, you have been helpful. Thank you!

      @@ifishcatfish I listend you Viktor and got my vanquish 2500s. In flesh its better looking than in a video. I match it YB blue current 70 tz nano proffesor 66gramms. Hyper sensitive rod and magnesium body has a different feel than plastic or alumiinium body. Drag sound is very vibrant. Shimano has done something special with Vanquish. I would go with Stella only if fished heavy setup all day long.

    @i.o.3563 Před 4 lety +3

    Well, that's a good selection. I am with you on Vanquish completely. The best there is in terms of finesse.
    You were talking about bigger diametr spool and it's advantages. There is a point there, but you forgot the disadvantages. As you have bigger spool, you must have a bigger rotor. Bigger rotor - less sensitivity. The same with the spool, heavier spool - less sensitivity. Big spool and small guides is not a great combination either.

The new Certate is pretty smooth as well, but weighs more than the Luvias. I have no complaints so far, but I can see where you are coming from in your impressions. About comparison between Luvias and Vanquish. It's comparable only in eastern Europe, because of the price there. In Japan those reels have a very dramatic price difference. Luvias is a good 40% less. So they shouldn't be even compared.
    And you're right, Daiwa is not to be serviced at home. I believe any high end reel deserve a professional hand, but Daiwa is more like one time affair - you buy it, use, throw it away and buy another one.

      I like the old one better in every aspect, except the handle. The old one has a thick knob. I don't like thick knobs.
      I said several times that the 2500 Luvias does not have the resistance problem. It is a much bigger reel and much longer handle, and you can winch through the grease without much resistance. The 2500 is a good reel, but that is the smallest size i would buy.

    On the line lay part didn't Daiwa purposely have their line lay closer to the drag higher?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      i heard about that, on some spools, but the problem is
      1. this is not such a spool
      2. even if it was, such line lay would reduce casting distance (but reduce some wind knots too)
      3. The line is higher not only towards the top end of the spool, but towards both ends of spool. Now u don't even reduce wind knots because the line from the bottom end of the spool is super easy to come off.
      Shimano's line lay is best

    The daiwa line lay is meant to be smaller at the bottom and bigger at the top. Daiwa says it casts further like that

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      Two things:
      1. What you are talking about is smaller at the bottom and this line lay is smaller in the middle. At the bottom and at too its the same.
      2. That particular line lay with smaller at the bottop is NOT designed to cast farter! How can it cast farther when it increases resistance? It is antibacklash design because the extra resistance prevents line from coming off the spool too fast. But that comes at the cost of reduced cast distance.

      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety +1

      excellent point. Many subs have asked me about that reel and I tell everyone it is amazing reel but I will wait until Shimano releases a JDM version of the same reel. The JDM version will have low gear ratio and will be black or at least dark color - mark my words.
      But if we leave cosmetics aside.. I think it is a strong competitor for #2. Before buying the Luvias i thought that the FL is too heavy because it is metal, but now I don't think so any more - at least not for me. All of my rods feel better with 180 gram reels so i no longer thing the weight is a problem. But the FL has the gears and oscillation of Vanquish so amazing reel for sure. I don't know if it's quite as good as the discontinued Daiwa Presso though.. that reel has such low resistance.. The metal FL will probably have a bit more resistance from the extra weight.. But they will release a CI4+ version of the FL, and that will be a number 2 for sure..

    I actually bought the exact same luvias model. & Yes I will agree I was definitely disappointed in the resistance whilst winding. Not sure what causes this. You are probably correct about the over use or viscosity of the grease used. I don't like to compare reels with different price points. Because there should be a major difference in quality and longevity especially in a salt water environment. I agree with you on the resistance point. But the legalis is not even on the same planet as the luvias. You will but 10 legalis reels before you need to service a luvias. & The drags are different. Both even have different ratings. Its easy to say close your eyes & forget about all the bells & whistles a luvias has. To compare with a legalis. But why would you. You are paying for all of those features. So I say. Keep your eyes open & realise what a awesome engineering piece of equipment you are using. & When you're friend is on his 10th legalis. Say, Told you to get a luvias. Nice to see someone like yourself doing great videos. Very informative, Keep it up. Thanks

    About Daiwa line-lay. You are wrong there to compoare it with Shimano. Daiwa engineers have done it on purpose to make the lay-off as easy and smooth as possible. Shimano has it straight, has on mine as well, but the effort to cast 1 gram lures is almost 0 with Daiwa. Less twists as well. But hey, good video, i will rather stick with my 17 and 19 models of Daiwas rather than trying the new Luvias. Love your videos! Keep them coming!

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      I may be wrong. Or you may be wrong. How to tell. Maybe lets look at the line lay of the most expensive surf casting reels, including Daiwa's own surf casting reels. They all have flat line lay with super slow oscillation. Sometimes the spool is even slightly conical, the top of the spool being smaller than the base, just to reduce lip friction as much as possible. U wont see this concave line lay on a surf reel. The reason Shimano still has worm oscillation gear, which adds weight and cost, is because the locomotive gears just can't get a perfect line lay

    Quite interesting video, well done. But I personaly can't agree with you. I have fished with both reels (have Luvias lt) and when you have lure resistance in water it feels the same, for lures like trout spinners Luvias have more power.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      I don't comment on power because you would have to adjust for gear ratio and spool size and length of handle first - you know how leverage works. I put a handle from 2500 Exceller the other day and the resistance completely disappeared because that long handle creates a lot more leverage. But I never made the claim that the two reels ARE the same. They just feel the same in terms of resistance. The Luvias is the better reel without a doubt, and even a fool would not deny that. I just think that Daiwa ruined the entire user experience by leaving that resistance in the reel. I already received the tool and will be opening it pretty soon to replace the grease.
      I didn't have money when daiwa steez came out. Nor channel. Could not justify it. Even now i don't have money but will buy new reels to make reviews for the channel. But will not buy old reels because nobody will watch those videos.

    • @user-pn1hh8ez7e
      @user-pn1hh8ez7e Před 3 lety

      I think the resistance may be due to the extra adjustment washers. In this case, the friction in the gears is the cause of the resistance. This can be determined by the complete lack of play in the handle. A friend of mine had this problem with the Exceller LT and solved it by removing one thinnest washer.

    • @ifishcatfish

      @@ifishcatfish I have already paid and waiting for the delivery of my Luvias FC LT 2000S. I bought it to replace Theory 2004H, in which I also do not like resistance, spin knocks (under load) and high gear. I really liked the lightweight rotor of my Certate LT 3000,
      so I decided to buy a new Luvias (it has the same one). I hope it will be without Theory problems.
      Also I noticed that the resistance is more felt in reels with a lighter rotor. That is, the lighter rotor, the stronger the resistance of the mechanism is felt. The heavy rotor, with its inertia, "helps" the rotation and reduces the "feeling" of resistance.
      For example my Luvias 15 2506 seems to have less resistance than Theory 2004H. But Luvias 15 2506 has a heavier rotor (DS5) than Theory (Zion).

      I have 2 Theory reels, both with super low resistance. Some of the lowest resistance i have. Both of them have less resistance than the Luvias you ordered. However, my theory reels are both low gear ratio.
      I think the leverage of a reel is pretty complicated. My luvias 2015 has less resistance than the new 2020. I don't think this is just my own perception due to heavy rotor. Inertia may hide resistance once the rotor is spinning, but starting a heavy rotor from a standstill is very unpleasant. I think the 2015 was just amazing reel, and it is not just the rotor hiding resistance. The 2020 Luvias is a fail in my opinion. Feels like a 50 dollar Exceller.

      Stradic FL is great. Both for dropshot and in 1000 size in UL. I just don't like the chrome color. Doesn't match my rods. I think Daiwa will release a JDM version in black color (with some funny name) and then i will get it.

      Well I got it today, felt a little stiff at first but it was a bit cold, got much better after playing with it a couple minutes. To me it feels very smooth, and doesn't seem to have that much resistance. It will turn from dead stop under handle weight if the spool is on the down stroke but won't if it is on the up stroke if that helps. It is the high speed version so I'm sure it would have even less resistance in a lower gear version.

      turned out it was. But the MSRP is pretty close, and Luvias was the best UL reel after presso. I have played with Exist many times, and it cannot compare to vanquish for UL fishing. • @troutmagnetman
    @troutmagnetman Před 4 lety +4

    We will have to agree to disagree here Victor. There is just no way you can compare a Vanquish to a 20 Luvias. For someone who has a low inertia reel and gives a 20 Luvias a turn they may think something is wrong but it isn't. This was never meant to be low inertia reel. My 2000 is extremely smooth....yes it takes more effort to turn than the Presso Limited but from what I have gathered from watching a ton of auto translated videos the reel is as it is supposed to be. I have also watched a lot of eastern European videos about the 20 Luvias.....all good. Most do not or will not have the means to do a self service on this reel. I am one of those. I am too old and long ago quit opening up reels...but having said that I doubt if I still wanted to I wouldn't want to invest in the tool or magnetic oil to do so....some things are best left to the professionals. All it takes to remove the set screw on the 20 luvias is a .9mm hex head. There Is only one thing I do not like about the 20 Luvias reels.....there are no 1000 series. If there were I would be ordering about 5 more.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      Randy, the US website has a 1000 size available, check it out. I personally prefer 2000 over 1000 because the line is less curly. My presso ltd is also 2025 , by choice. I really wish i got the 2500 size instead because i dont even have a rod to put this on and feel balanced. I would still get the 2500 if i thought it would have finesse reel grease inside, but i dont know that. My guess is daiwa will one day swith the grease in the factory and the next batch will come out with proper ultralight resistance. This is a 150 gram reel. There is no reason for this reel to have more resistance than my legalis

    • @troutmagnetman
      @troutmagnetman Před 4 lety

      i_fish I don’t know. I think it will loosen up over time. If I were to use it as much as the 1000 series reels I have....and as much as I fish....it would really ease up on rotation. But this reel will in all likelihood be used mostly in spring time...on an Ajing rod....chasing big smallmouth. It will be perfect for that with the Troutist 4# test line with that bigger main gear.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      yeah, i can see how u can use it just fine as it is. Especially since u r the only one in USA that has a rod for this reel , lol : ). I heard you mention that you will use it for float fishing. I immediately thought that's a good choice, since the resistance is not gona bother your sensitivity as much as in jigging. I will probably do the same, or crank some tiny swimbaits with it.. but for jigging it will bother me, at least right now.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Před 4 lety

      As for maintenance, i may be able to get someone to open it up for me and replace the grease for free, but i am not sure I want such invasive surgery done to my brand new reel, lol : ). Even a dealer cannot open and clean main gears and put it back together and have it feel like factory. U have to completely disassemble the reel to clean all that grease, and I don't want that. My old Subaru has a passenger air bag recall, and dealer sent me 100 letters, and I refuse to take my Subaru for a free fix. U have to disassemble the entire dashboard to replace that air bag, and after that everything rattles. I am the only one who drives that Subaru and I only use it to tow a boat. The next owner can go and have the whole dashboard broken to pieces if he wants, but i will pass. But that's how I feel about having the entire reel broken to pieces to clean the grease. I'd rather just use it as is and wait for it to loosen a little..

      i_fish as you said. The little 2000s has a lot of resistance. Just feels not very sensitive and even more so with XH gear I got (I salt water fish in the south pacific so need faster gearing for faster fish) I feel the raspiness from the thick gear grease inside. May need to bring it in to someone the change out grease for me. But the 3000 definitely feels better. I also want to add: the biggest disappointed was how much the frame flexes. I’ve never had a carbon body reel, and as a long time shimano user, using Daiwa for the first time, I was a little disappointed. Miss the a Hagane body, or should have gotten a Certate haha. I also, replaced all the bushings with BB. Feels smoother or just placebo.

      i_fish the 2000 body was flexing pretty bad. Didn’t feel it in the 3000. Although, I have to say It was flexing in a condition I probably won’t see while fishing. I was spooling my pe0.3 braid at the time, not fighting a fish. Reel on a heavier seabass rod, Drag tight, and tension high on the line spooler I use - always want my first line spool tight to avoid any line digging later. While spooling I thought the reel was not set properly, moving about in the reel seat. After tightening the reel foot more, that’s when I really felt it. Like the reel was made of rubber. Weirdest feeling ever. Had never felt that - doing the same thing with Shimano’s before it. This will probably be my last carbon body reel. But like I said, probably won’t ever see that happen when I actually fish as I will never put more than 2kg of drag using Pe0.3 braid, and my 10g yamaga blanks bluecurrent rod has barely half a kilo of rod drag.

      this is a better deal - thanks. I approached the seller to confirm fit. The looks looks kind of big... and my reel is so small.. I want to make sure it will fit

      Legalis is the best ultralight reel under 100$. Reels in that price range don't have water protection. Fuego is a Legalis with a few seals, if u r interested

    Hi Victor,
    I really enjoy your videos. I saw a lot of your videos when your reels stated it seems to be a little tight. When you use the reels, it’s like it spins in honey or has a lot of grease in it. My reels are like that czcams.com/video/QiAr8xZ-5qg/video.html
    Another question, I use a lot of middle class reels. They are working properly, but I would like to buy a flagship reel. I would like to use in spinning fishing, or UL spinning fishing. I thinking in 2 size. For UL 1000/2000 size, or normal spinning 2500 size. these reels sparked my interest: Exist, Stella, Vanquish. I know you say Vanquish is the king. But you tested or use in the past Exist or Stella? If I buy a flagship reel I would like to buy the best. On CZcams, who have both Stella and Exist, they say: Stella is smoother, but everyone prefers to use Exist. If you try to use Stella or Exist please share us some information about these flagship reels. I appreciate your opinion.
    Best regards,
    Gabor

      Vanquish is the ultralight king! Important distinction. In heavier loads, the stella and exist will be better. If anyone says one of them is smoother than the ither, they are lying. Its just about arsthetics and resistance and inertia but even then its hard to tell which is better.
