  • Ever since the Lady of Runestone was seen on screen many, myself included, have wondered what could have happened if the rogue prince had actually done his duty to his first wife and what could have come of it. We explore that today.

I mean I think it’s pretty simple. They may still hate each other but
A: Alicent gets them married off to high houses and tries to have one of her daughter be ruling queen instead
B: Rhaenyra remains heir, still with turbulence because gender. Alicents children have children and they produce male heirs they try to put on the throne.

Of the fan-fictions I've read that give Daemon and Rhea a child, it's more commonly a daughter. If that had happened, I can picture only one of two names: "Alyssa", for the mother Daemon was known to have been very close to, or "Alysanne", as a way of mocking the grandmother that forced this marriage upon him. Boy or girl, I can see Daemon, in the earliest days of the child's training, using small taunts to make them fight harder and learn faster: "Will you be like your mother, or will you embrace the dragon inside?" Also, Rhea could still die in this new timeline, but in a different way. If she, for example, passed from complications in childbirth, this would leave Daemon as co-regent for their child, until he or she came of age. It would also make his drunken joke about Aemma and baby Baelon's deaths far worse than it already was. Viserys would be doubly-furious, unable to fathom why his brother would say such a thing, after going through a similar experience. (4/9/2024)

Yeah... yeah I can see that.
I think the fan-fics of then often having a daughter makes it easier to still have a dance. Cause a Targaryen Prince that's added into the mix now adds another possible claimant for King should they war with the Greens

Then the Greens will probably win. Daemon was the most proactive member of the Black faction, as he was the only one able to challenge Aemond and basically single-handed secured the Riverlands for Rhaenyra, which ends up being VERY important.
And both factions will be weaker, and seem weaker as well, which means more lords will support Aegon, giving the Greens even more of an advantage.

Wouldn’t Maegor be the heir to the throne? The only reason why rhaenyra became it was because daemon was too shitty and there were no other options, even if Otto is so against daemon he would still prefer to just surpass him and use his son, it’s would be easier to convince him and it would be a possible marriage for allicent

Yeah, honestly I would be surprised if Viserys selected Raenyra after disinheriting Daemon instead of point blank stating that Maegor would be his heir. Then the Dance would be Otto and Daemon playing a proxy war to get Allicent or Rhaenyra to marry Maegor to safeguard their pathway to control of the throne.

Good point about Maegor being the heir to the throne, but if that did happen I don't think he would marry Allicent if Otto offered it.
Because I don't think people realise that Maegor may be the one person that would hate Otto more than anyone else and yes even Deamon, I'm sure we can all agree that given who our bronze dragon is named after Otto would throw it in his face the most out of everyone, I mean imagine if Maegor was in the small council meeting with his dad and when Otto stands up Maegor puts his hand on his sword.

As for other girls...maybe "Alyssa", but I'm not sure if he was as close to their mother, as Daemon was. I could see him, naming one daughter after Aemma's mother, Daella. Another girl could've been named "Rhaenys", as a way to soothe whatever bad feelings existed over his cousin's gender, eliminating her from serious throne contention. Obviously, a confusion-eliminating nickname would have to be used. (4/9/2024)

I do think Daemon will only accept Rhaenyra to be his in-law for several reasons,
      1. To united the claim of two lines of Prince Baelon's descendants, Viserys line and Daemon line.
      2. Daemon worships Valyrian tradition and is committed to the true Targaryen lineage, although Maegor himself is a half Targaryen-Royce,
it's better for Maegor to marry a direct Targaryen like Rhaenyra, rather than marry him to a non-Targaryen woman (even Laena Velaryon).
      3. Marriage between Maegor and Rhaenyra will make Daemon get into the position of power,
since his son will be the Prince Consort when Rhaenyra ascends the Iron Throne.

Damon is a Targeryen supremacist, that's why he didn't want to consumate his marriage to his wife.
He was the brother of the king, uncle of the future Queen (or King, had Viserys changed his mind), he could gladly have had any other lovers even if he didn't love his wife, he still could have "suffered through" shooting his load in her to get heirs.
But she was not of Targeryen or valyrian descent. Laena for example was both (being a Velaryon and the daughter of a Targeryen). And then if course there is Rhaenyra.

But what he didnt account for was the fact that regardless of how Daemon's story changed, Viserys would still have been wanting a son. So Viserys's story probably wouldnt have changed and he still wouldve ended up married to Allicent with Allicent's son Aegon being in line to take the throne. The only difference is that in this what-if scenario with Daemon having a son there would have been a third contender for the throne or at least another powerful faction who would have to either choose to side with the Blacks or the Greens. But if Maegor grew up with Rhaenyra, its likely he would have fought for Rhaenyra even if there werent married, which means the Greens probably wouldve been decimated quickly and the dance of dragons wouldnt have played out the way it did.

Best case scenario she cheat on him, he find out, he then tell on her, there vows get broken and annealed by the sept and sept now hat the aryns and now the Roy’s see the aryns as betrayers, people who slighted them and I think lady Roy’s would be pist that her son got emotionally hurt by the aryns

This is an interesting what if scenario to think about and depending on who Maegor Royce married does sounds interesting, so let’s look at the options.
*Rhaenyra* it looks obvious on paper, Daemon can have his son marry the princess, especially if she’s the hair, might cause problems with Velaryons but Rhaenyra would have true born children.
*Alicent* if you want to take a Romeo and Juliet route, both of their fathers would greatly disapprove of it but Viserys being the nice guy that he is allows it, Viserys would ended up marrying Laena instead but the Velaryons would have divided loyalties if Laenor still marry Rhaenyra.
*Laena* Daemon still has a friendship with Corlys the Sea Snake, not much changed since Maegor would just replace Daemon.
*Rhaenyra 2* specifically after Laenor’s death, since Daemon would still be married to Rhea in this scenario, their wouldn’t be Baela & Rhaena, unless Maegor married Laena but she still died.
*Jeyne Arryn* with Maegor being an Royce, this marriage alliance helps solidify Jeyne’s rule over the Vale, especially if Maegor Royce has Vermithor The *Bronze* Fury.
I like to call Maegor Royce The *Bronze Dragon* in reference to his heritages.

Here's an idea what if Alicent was married to Daemon.

Mysaria is valyrian in the book

it's waaay too impossible. Daemon is only attracted to valyrian women. Even Mysaria is of Valyrian origin in the books and looks like it

According to the Dragon X theory (which I think explains a lot of the Targaryen marriage practices), any daughter by Rhea and Daemon could ride a dragon because they inherit Daemon’s X gene. If they had a son, though, Daemon’s Y would be passed down and none of their sons could ride dragons. Further, no descendant of D&R could hatch a dragon, which is not the case for children with the dragonriding Laena or Rhaenyra

What if Rhaenyra ascended without the Greens interfering. Would she go uncontested?! Would the realm accept Jace. Would the realm be at peace with Daemon as king consort. How would she be as a ruler since she has no political intelligence.

Aemond goes off to Essos probably(maybe even becomes King of the Narrow Sea), while the rest of the Greens wait for Rhaenyra to die to press their claim on the throne. Rhaenyra wasn't exactly a good ruler in the Dance, and when she dies it's possible that there would be a three way conflict, since her sons with Daemon might also push for their claim to the throne.
