What If Criston Cole Stayed With Rhaenyra? (House Of The Dragon)

  • In the first video I made earlier this week we explored what could happen if Rhaenyra took up Criston Cole's offer to run away to Essos but this time we'll explore the opposite. What if the knight in shining armor never abandoned his princess? What if instead of trying to steal her away he stayed by her side?

If the boys inherit Criston's skin tone or dark hair, these traits would be attributed to Corlys's blood's influence, and to the book version of Laenor's mother, respectively. Same with the hair texture, as proved by Laena's beautiful curls. Like you said, it's all a matter of a flipped genetic switch. To me, their eye COLOR, as part of the proverbial windows to the soul, would be the big giveaway. This could be how Alicent starts to realize the truth, when she's presented with [now] Baelon. If the baby is born with nearly-black eyes, it would definitely tip off the ever-suspicious queen. I can picture her, tracking down anyone involved with Rhaenyra's pregnancy care and delivery, and interviewing them. If even one person cracked, THIS would then provoke her to wear her famous emerald gown to a banquet, maybe thrown to celebrate the baby's birth. While this scenario is restricted to the youngest child, I feel like it would the easiest one to maneuver into the timeline. (3/9/2024)

I dunno man, even Rhaenys had Purple eyes, and her hair still had Targaryen silver in it
People use Rhaenys like a big "gotcha" moment for Rhaenyra's kids not being bastards but, it's incredibly obvious that they're not trueborn kids of Laenor

@@thalmoragent9344 I know there was a bit of a fuss about how the show gave Rhaenys silver hair, instead of the black hair she had in the book. They didn't even write in a moment, where she could've commented on how her appearance has changed with age. If you think about the story in a real-life context, as we've been saying, it's all about which genes come through for each child. If Jacerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey had all favored Rhaenyra's looks [fair skin, platinum-blond hair, and lavender eyes], it would've been much harder for her enemies to make the accusation of illegitimacy. Given that Joffrey lives in this scenario there is also the possibility that the children actually are fathered by Laenor. Everyone chalk Lenore's inability off as him being gay (which could be), but you also have to consider that Jace was born within a year of Joffrey's death. So you could assume Laenor was still in mourning the lost of his lover which effect his ability to perform in the bedroom as well.

True! She did say something along the lines of "we should've left long ago" bc she realized keeping her bastards so publically viewable was making it more and more obvious who they were. So there's a chance she would've left a lot earlier, as early as Jace's birth if Alicent makes enough of a stink, or she could have never left. I'd imagine she'd have left earlier (Criston may have been an unhinged incel in the canon but he was still smart enough to plan ahead). Who knows if that would've affected things like the dragons her kids bonded with, if they would've been closer to Laena's/Laenor's family, etc. All potentially huge changes, imo

Just a nit pick Criston Cole is not a commoner or peasant , he’s comes from the very minor house , House Cole in the stormlands/Dornish marches . They are a vassal of House Dondarrion, so a vassal of a vassal . So technically a noble but far from royalty. Kinda like. Little finger.

Heres an idea "What if Rhaenyra actually told Viserys the truth". What would've happened if she was honest for once and told her father she slept with Cristian instead of letting the rumors about her and Daemon spread. I actually see this effecting not just Cristian, but Daemon, Otto and Alicent as well. Especially Otto and Daemon because it will make them both look shady in Viserys eyes and it actually could be the start of a new beginning for him and Rhaenyra.
