    Hey man I just wanted to say thank you for both of your videos about replacing the struts and doing the spring compression. I just did mine for the first time and it went very smoothly thanks to your videos. The only problems I ran into were the seized nuts on the strut hat and I broke head off the bolt trying to remove the sway bar bracket. Should have been patient with PB blaster, but instead I spent an extra couple of hours cutting the nut off the struts hat and extracting the sway bar bolt from frame LOL! Lesson learned. Thanks so much for helping me through this job. The truck feels brand new now, especially after new tires and alignment! I’m tackling the rear struts next and they seem much easier based on your video for those- just hoping I don’t run into any unforeseen issues again haha!

    Just did my '19 Colorado shocks/struts a couple weeks ago. 4wd. Did not have to mess with the upper control arm ball joint at all. With some creative prying up on the sway bar, after removing the end links and loosening the bushing mounts, the struts almost fell out. I did unhook the outer tie rods for clearance. Was easier to go that way than mess with the upper ball joint connection. Still, not a hard job either way. Thanks for the videos!

      @fondupot  Před rokem +1

      Yea so actually I just installed new Bilsteins on my 2019 Canyon as well. Video to come soon. I realized it’s MUCH easier to just remove the sway bar and disconnect the tie rod than to disconnect the upper control arm, and fight the shock in and out. I also installed a sway bar relocation bracket so the sway bar had to come off anyways. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Good video. I just want to add a couple suggestions. First off, when disconnecting the upper control arm, instead of removing the nut and supporting the hub, just leave the nut screwed on 3 or 4 threads. The nut will catch it and you have less equipment in the way. The second is, after you're done and the vehicle is sitting on its own weight, loosen all of the upper and lower control arm mounting bolts at the same time then tighten them back up. If you don't, there will be a constant tension on the control arm bushings which will cause them to prematurely fail. Good video though.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 3 lety

      Good Tips. When the vehicle gets aligned they are supposed to adjust the control arms. But I know where you are coming from. Thanks for watching.

    • @tyoung3455
      @tyoung3455 Před rokem

      Great video overall. Several suggestions. First, my DC911FB Dewalt impact did about everything except the top strut bolts and the reinstall of the arm. You do not have to take the entire arm nut off as Kevin suggests. It will spring down and tilt towards you even if you have a jack under. Also, take a torx bit and remove the ABS wire completely and stuff it back in the body. When installing the strut, wrench the top 3 nuts in slightly not all the way, then do the bottom. Last, you have to put the 2 sway bar bolts in about half way, then put the link on and tighten, then tighten the sway links the rest of the way - and I highly recommend an impact for the sway bolts.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      William Rankin thanks very much. I suppose more grooves could be put in. I wouldn’t recommend it as you’d void any warranty on the shocks tho.
      The only way to adjust height would be to remove and disassemble them. Because all the load of the shocks is holding the ring in place.

      @@fondupot Wow, what a quick response. I think I will pass on this mod, but still interesting stuff. My 2018 Canyon Denali does seem to be a bit taller and ride a bit stiffer than my former 2015 Canyon SLT. I would have to assume the slightly taller ride height is mostly due to 20" wheels and the stiffer ride due to less tire sidewall.

    Can these be used in combination with the two inch level kit from Rough Country? Like I would be able to make it one inch over factory to give me total of 3 inches of lift in the front and just but blocks in the rear with the shocks you used for the rear?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 4 lety +1

      Gator I wouldn’t recommend stacking a level kit on top of a leveled strut. The truck would ride very bad. Someone on the forums tried this and regretted it. I would say go with a kit designed for 3” lift from the start. With the rear shocks you can add a 1” taller block with these to get some more. But I wouldn’t go higher.

    I have a 2018 colorado and I'm getting the ones that are adjustable upto 2.75 inches. Is it absolutely necessary to drop the sway bar and get new end links? I've asked this question online in a few places and they say the only thing I need to get for the full 2.75 inches is the 1 inch diff drop kit from Peak suspension. Their salesman said for 2.75 inches I don't need to relocate the sway bar nor do I need new high angle upper control arms. Thanks for this video as I plan on doing all the work myself!

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 3 lety +1

      "Need" is a loose word. You don't really need to lower the sway bar, or do a diff drop, or get high angle control arms. But over time, the stock components when stressed from being at different geometry will be prone to wear out faster. The upgraded components help alleviate the stress. So its really how much you want to spend replacing parts in the future. Good luck on your install!

      @@fondupot thank you I'm trying to get a smoother ride and have no idea what to go with

      Tires can affect ride quality as well. I am currently running Michelin Defender LTX MS2 tires on my 2019 GMC Canyon. Smoothest and most quiet tire I’ve ever owned. I still have stock shocks on the Canyon for now. The Colorado in the video was totaled. The Bilsteins are firmer so they might not be what you want for a smoother ride. Look into Monroe Reflex shocks.

      So does it imitate the 2 inch leveling puck? I was thinking of going this route since I have a 2015 Colorado and more than likely will need to change out my struts in a year or so. I want that level look....

      mario diaz the part number indicates it’s only for 4 wheel drive trucks. But I would call Bilstein directly to verify.
