    Great shocks. Over 1 year later and I still like the way the truck drives. Buy them here: amzn.to/2vbVLuC

    As of today my 16 Colorado, has new Bilstien 4600 rear shocks installed by me, thanks to you from watching your videos. I'll tackle the front before summer hits. A shout out to Colorado Fans also. Keep truckin.

    I watched and applied your useful information to change my shocks, took 2 hrs max. However, I'd like to assure all the other diesel owners out there... You do have to wiggle around the DEF tank on the driver side, but not impossible.

    Regarding Diesel, the DEF tank is seriously in the way of the drivers side shock upper bolt. I had to loosen/remove the DEF tank screws and bolts to get it to drop down a half inch or so to work that bolt out. I went and bought a grade 8 bolt 3/4 inches shorter to get it back in. No way was I going to get the original back in. Also, hack sawed the driver front Spring bolt off to avoid doing the fuel tank. Seriously, Chevy!? Old Man Emu provided a replacement bolt for the sawed off one. I was able to do the rear in a day, about 6 or 7 garage hours, and the front over a morning to remove the struts, drop them off at a shop, pick them up the next afternoon and install. Thanks so much for the front strut video!

      MoabDaveRules yea. That’s what I am told. The DEF tank makes it a lot harder. Glad you got it done tho. Thanks for watching!

      I hit a couple snags getting that DEF tank down. One stud onto which the tank mounts seemed to spin freely without access above it to anchor and work the washer-nut off. The opposite side of the tank has a stud welded to a round bar and it seemed like I'd snap that post if I kept muscling the nut. Seems like these posts allow for a lot of corrosion to complicate removal. Did you run into anything like that?

    Ok, you mention this on a diesel, mine is a 2016 with the duramax and just did this job. The DEF tank is a PITA. Had to drop the tank to get the upper bolt on the driver side out. Damned engineers designing crap.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 4 lety +1

      Marvin Eads yea I’ve heard it’s not easy with that DEF tank in the way.

      2017 diesel, I twisted the shock toward the front, really squished the bushing to do it, then had to unscrew it the rest of the way at a crazy angle to clear the tank. after some measuring I cut off 3/4" of the bolt and hit it with no-ox then re installed.
      It does ride much nicer now.

    Dealership told me about my 2015 Colorado z71 shocks and struts will need to be replaced soon. I’m at 63,000 miles. They estimated around 1000$.

      Bilstein parts cost me 750. I was quoted 1500 for complete install with GM parts. I opted to decline. It's not rocket science to replace shocks/struts.so I'll tackle the rear this week.

    I wonder how these shocks would perform with the trail boss package and the slightly more rugged tire. The vibration isn't severe, but it's certainly more noticeable than the 2016 I had.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      Trailboss package is basically just an exterior trim package. Suspension-wise it’s the same as a regular Z71, like my truck. So these shocks would do great.

  • @tonydee6658

    Thanks dude, good quick, to the point video. How’s the truck handle after? I’m in the south with pretty shitty roads. I’m looking for something to soften the blow, from potholes, beat up, uneven, under constant construction roads. Any suggestions for weighing down the bed, also?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 3 lety +1

      Truck road pretty good. They are firmer than stock. But I liked it. Much better control in rough roads. Thanks for watching!

    You're not going to let us see you muscling the shocks into place after cutting the strap? I usually affix the lower bolt first , then cut the strap, letting the upper mount extend to the "vicinity" of the upper bracket. Then use my weight to pull down on the top end of the shock to position it in place in the mount. Doing this the opposite way, top first, bottom second, will have anyone exhausted pushing the shock body up into the lower mount. But with the shock bodies being on the bottom, this doesn't give much to hang onto on top. So I don't see much option than to mount the tops first. Am I correct?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      Iam scotticus honestly. It wasn’t too tiring to cut the straps first. You’re right tho. I mounted the top first. Then pushed the lower mount into place and bolt it up.

    • @datawrangler81
      @datawrangler81 Před 4 lety

      I swapped out the rear springs and shocks with old man emu equipment. With the truck jacked up by the frame the springs pushed everything down so there was room for the shocks to slide right in.

    Thanks for the video! Do you know, is this shock suitable for ZR2 models as well?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 3 lety +1

      Thanks for watching. No. The ZR2 has special shocks that are much better than even these. There are alternatives for ZR2 shocks available but these are not them.

    Any noticeable handling improvements when crossing railroad tracks at speed? My stock Z71 rear end likes to walk sideways.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      James Wheaton yea the truck handles better. Still a little hop of tracks but not nearly as bad before. I would like to get a rear sway bar kit. Might be my next video...

    Did you install the shocks without jacking up the wheels?

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 2 lety +2

      Yea. Rear shocks can be done with the vehicle on the ground. The leaf springs will hold up the weight of the truck.

    Sweeeeeeet! Do you by chance recommend any good LUTS for editing in post production? I just got the DJI Mavic Pro 2 & I'm excited to see how the video looks! I'm trying to find some great LUTS for the drone footage. 😀

      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      I don't know what LUTS is. I use Wondershare Filmora for my video editing. It was relatively cheap and has pretty good editing features on my windows PC. I used to just use iMovie, but my Mac was getting old and slow.

    How much of a lift do you get in the rear with these? Or do they keep the stock ride height? I did a 2" block to level in the front, but would like to change out the rear shocks with something that would gain at least an inch or two. Curious if these would accomplish that.

    • @fondupot
      @fondupot  Před 5 lety

      The rear shocks are meant to accommodate 1” of lift. But you’d need to add a block to the spring pack. Otherwise its stock height.

  • @soloban81
    @soloban81 Před 4 lety +1

    Lordy - I just replaced the rear shocks on my 15' Colorado and the upper bolt on the passenger side was a royal PITA thanks to the dumbasses at GM that decided to put that muffler hanger mount at 2:11 right in the way.

    • @soloban81

    • @fondupot

      Yea I remember that one being a pain. Its even harder on trucks equipped with DEF tank for diesel.
