- In this video we take a look at the performance tune offerings from Trifecta Performance for 2015+ Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon. They offer tunes for both the 2.5L Inline 4 cylinder as well as the V6 motor. Trifecta offers three tune packages for the V6 and two tune packages for the I4. The packages available are named Advantage, Advantage+ and Elite. All tune packages use Trifectas custom tuning to unlock horsepower and increase efficiency. They use dynamic fuel mapping to allow use of 87, 89 or 91+ octane, with best results when using 91+. Trifecta also makes adjustments to the transmission shift points without having to unlock the transmission control module. One awesome feature that is included in their tunes are the Driver Selectable Vehicle Modes, that allow the driver to change from Sport Mode to Eco Mode, or Tow Haul mode on the fly, using OEM cruise control and tow/haul buttons. Included in the tune packages is the flash cable and their EZ Flash software which can be downloaded from their website.
Overall, Trifecta makes it easy and affordable to tune your vehicle.
2015-2016 V6 motors are the LFX.
2017-2021 V6 motors are the LGZ.

Awesome stuff! Definitely worth it to help with the transmission. Thanks for the video!
Absolutely. I’m loving it so far. Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing this, great info and easy to do.
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
The best thing you can do on your Colorado?Canyon. I did it when I bought my 2016 because shift points were so bad. Now it rocks. Highly recommend!!!!
For sure!
Does this void warranty
What kinda mileage in the modes??
This couldn’t be much easier.
I installed my custom tune today.
I got Advantage+ since I went with 4.10 gears and will be going with a bit larger tire.
Glad to hear. Thanks for watching.
Why does everybody get wheels ?
Well Dave, i got my tune done. What a difference. The thing accelerates way better and it has a way more touchy throttle in sport mode. Seems like the eco mode it feels more like stock. Takes more input in the throttle to downshift but in eco that's fine. Impressed so far
Awesome glad to hear! Enjoy your truck.
@@fondupot in eco mode I picked up 5mpg average on my daily drive to work. Amazing
Awesome!
Thanks. Much appreciated.
Thanks! Will definitely look into this
You won’t regret it!
@@fondupot Thanks again. I'm shooting to upgrade exhaust soon and will most likely follow with Trifecta
Sounds good!
Would love to see an update on this tune and what kind of gas mileage you’ve averaged since the tune compared to what it was before.
Hard to say if mileage really improved, our truck only really gets driven around town a couple times a week. But I’ve had it out on some road trips but typically that’s through the mountains. I reset the mileage every time I fill up, it usually lands around 18-19mpg. Which is roughly the same as before the tune.
I had my 4cyl. tuned using them and it surely wakes up the truck significantly.
Awesome! I am loving it so far
Question: how do you switch modes on the fly? For instance, I toe a popup and use my stock tow mode in the dash. Do I keep using that or do I need to change the profile in the software? Thanks in advance.
Tow mode engaged using the same tow/haul button.
Sport mode is engaged when the cruise control system is off (no icon in DIC). Eco mode is engaged when cruise control is armed (icon in DIC). Hope that helps.
Fondupot's Garage yes that’s exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks again!
You’re welcome!
Thanks for the info! I will be installing their tune today, do I need to be ready for any surprises?
Awesome! Nothing crazy. It’s pretty straight forward and easy.
With the tune in eco mode (cruise indicator on) are you still able to use “set” and use the other cruise control buttons as normal?
Yes. Cruise control function doesn’t change.
question... what is the cable that is used, is it something they sell or that you have to buy separately somewhere else
Comes with the tune. They send it.
I would like to see dyno results. I put mine in tow/haul mode while driving in town. It feels like a different truck.
I have been trying to get the truck on a dyno, but I have not been having any luck with any of the shops around me. All of them are booked up for MONTHS and some don't return my calls/emails. :(
It definitely has an affect though. Its great to drive with the tune.
I really considering installing the basic tune on my 2021 canyon at4...my question is when you say switch between sport, eco and tow haul mode, where do you switch modes at?
NM i just watched the update...😆
@@silencesir1987 Yep! Glad you found the update video! Thanks for watching!
hey so any idea how to get an economy mode with a truck not equipped with cruise control? i have an aftermarket unit. 2017 V6
Hmmm. Not sure. I would send Trifecta an email and see what they say.
Doing the install as we speak haven’t gotten the Trx file l, mines a 2016
Good luck!
I have a AFE Cold air intake on my 2020 Chevrolet Colorado Z71. Which tune should I buy?
I’d go with the advantage+
Is it possible to upgrade your tune? I bought the advantage plus, but should have got the elite. Is it possible for me to just pay the price difference and get the elite?
I’m not sure. I would contact Trifecta and ask. I’m sure they’ll work something out
I’m putting up 305/55r20 on a 6 inch RC lift kit. What package do you recommend? Also my truck has a governor at 98 MPH does this tuner have the ability to remove it?
I would at least start with Advantage+. That will allow you to customize the tire size to your truck. I am not 100% sure about the governor removal. Send a message to the folks at Trifecta and ask.
@@fondupot they automatically set my speed limiter to the max rating of my tires. Since I had stock tires at they time they set it to their rating of 112mph!
How long did it take for them to build the tune and send it?
A couple of days. It was a quick turn around.
Dose it do anything for bottom end power which the 3.6 dose not have
Increase torque a bit yea.
I have a 2” front 1” rear lift with 285/70/17s and 4.10 Nitro gears. Should I go with the Advantage Plus or the Elite Package?
Hmm. I’m not sure. I can’t remember if they can adjust for different gear ratios on the advantage plus or not. But elite might. Send them an email. They’ll get you on the right path. Thanks for watching!
Advantage + unless you plan on doing tuning to the ECM. The + allows upgrades for tire, gears.
can you post an update, how's your truck with the tuning? any long-term issues long term? what do you like, what you don't like, etc. thank you
Zero Issues. Truck runs like a top. There isn't anything NOT to like. It just works, and works good. Just under 40,000 miles on the truck now.
I'm seriously looking into this. I want to add a cold air intake and magnaflow exhaust. Truck also has a 2 inch level kit with larger wheels and tires. Can they adjust to all this? Also mine is the 4 cylinder
Yea when you fill out the form on their website you can input the mods you have and the tire size. They will adjust your tune based on that. Thanks for watching!
Nice thats what I'm looking for
Glad to help!
Can this reflash be detected if something happens to your truck and you want to return to factory settings for a warranty claim?
I’d suggest you read up on the Trifecta website they go into it on the project page for their tunes. Long and short of it is no, but maybe yes.
If I want to set it and forget it - with shorter gears / taller tires in the future - is Advantage Plus good or is Elite worth it?
I’m getting one, no doubt.
2018 ZR2 3.6
Advantage + should be good for you
Where did you get those mirrors?
They are Boost Auto Parts towing mirrors. I have a video in my channel for them.
I have a 2018 Chevy ZR2 with an after market catback exhaust, as well as the Chevy performance cold air intake. My truck is stock height, and I’m on the stock wheels/tires. Which level of tune do you recommend for my application? Lastly, are the flash cable and software compatible with a MacBook Pro?
Thanks in advance!
Advantage turn should be fine. If you plan on remaining stock. I am not 100% sure if MacBooks are supported. Check the trifecta website they will have more info.
@@fondupot Thanks! At most, I might install the Chevy performance leveling kit down the road, will recommended tune still work?
Yea. Should be fine!
@@fondupot Thanks!
@@jamesestrada82 hey bro , you ever installed it ? I have a 2020 zr2 on 33’s and I’m thinking about tuning it.
So you have to buy the unit for 400 then you have to buy the tunes?
No the cable comes with the tunes.
What exhaust do you have?
Stock!
Can you switch on the fly from Eco mode to Sport mod?
Yes. Using the cruise button. Cruise mode engaged is eco (you don’t have to be actively cruising tho). Cruise mode off is sport. Cruise control continues to work normally too.
@@fondupot thanks I got your confirmation and explanation from your update video thanks so much. This makes it MUCH easier and usable than having to actively be using the cruise control to get better fuel mileage from ECO mode. Thanks for the clarification.
My 17’ colorado v6 8 speed seems to slip into 4th gear and the whole car rocks, do you think this tune would help?
Sounds like something mechanical is not right. You need to solve the underlying issue first.
second gen Colorados and Canyons have a transmission problem called "stutter" where they are jerky and you can try to bring it to your local Chevy dealer to see what they recommend as sometimes just flushing the transmission fluid can help but if that does not help you can look into a Diablo tuner which is supposed to help with the stutter. Its a throttle controller that allows to customize the throttle response for better fuel efficiency, or faster response for a more "sporty" feel. It has 5 presets and 3 customizable settings. I think its about $350 and plug and play in the cab port under the steering wheel.
Ross Malagarie appreciate the help, that shutter still freaks me out ahahagag.
@@borges976 you can also look into a Trifecta tune as it may help with smoother shifting and less "stutter". That's the tune I will probably go with after I decide on which CAI and dual exhaust to put on my 21' 3.6L V6 Canyon. 😎👍
Trifecta base tune is $300 and is for "fully stock" but their site says it should work with CAI and dual exhaust and they send you a plug with USB port to plug into your truck under the steering wheel and connect to your laptop and download a tune. It has always in "sport" or.push the cruise control button, you don't actually have to have the cruise control in use just as long as the white cruise control light is on, you will be in "economy" mode and a "tow" mode if you press the tow button on your dash.
Ross Malagarie sounds fun, but i happen to live in lovely california where tuned vehicles no longer pass smog🤦🏻♂️😂
Where’d you get the tow mirrors? Cant find them anywhere for a Colorado
Boost Auto Parts. czcams.com/video/zBj9XLyzSO4/video.html
Too expensive
@@ismaelcarrillo3956 right? I mean it’s molded plastic with some glass, sure maybe it’s heated or whatever but there’s not reason they should be $400
@@sandboxsniping5300 The mount of the mirror is solid metal. the arms and the mirror housing are molded plastic yes. There are cheaper options available, sure, but Boost Auto provides top notch customer service and warranty support. Not to mention the extra options that aren't included in factory mirror applications.
just got the advantage+ monday. I Absolutely love my tune! I have one issue with the speedo. I can not set my cruise control to 50MPH its impossible. just 49 and 51. its minor but annoying. trifecta says its completely normal
I saw your post on the forums. That’s weird! Did you email Trifecta? Maybe try reflashing the tune.
@@fondupot yeah man they say its normal. Their is quite a few people that say they have the same issue. I am just gonna try to leave it be. I really love sport mode and i wish it was sport mode on when cruise is on but nevertheless i love it and well worth the money.
Interesting. I’ll have to try it on mine. Yea sport mode is awesome. I can’t wait to get some 93 octane in my tank.
How do you switch from sport mode to eco mode?
Using the cruise on/off button. When cruise is on (white light on dash) you’re in ECO mode. When cruise is off (no light on dash) you’re in sport. Likewise. When cruise is actually engaged (green light on dash) you’re in ECO mode.
I would like to know what the difference between this and the Rough Country Speedometer calibrator is..
The RC speedo calibrator does not do anything accept adjust the parameters to account for oversized tires. Trifecta is a complete tune that can also be customized to the end user.
@@fondupot on the site, it claims to adjust shift points along with it. The reason I ask is because I have one on my truck now, but I'm still getting very low RPM shift points, which causes the truck to stutter.
@dlb73175 trifecta will be better. RC is just a speedo calibrator. It won’t help shift points very much.
will this affect the truck passing smog
Shouldn’t.
Would like to get rid of the auto stop feature on my 2016 Chevy Malibu drives me nuts!!
I think there are some plug in modules you can buy that get rid of it.
@@fondupot definitely interested in this option if you have anymore info please share ... thank you sir 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@@juiced71 look into Range Technologies, I think they have a module that plugs in the ODBII port.
@@fondupot thank you so much for the information!! I appreciate it !!
Glad to help! Thanks for watching
What size motor was urs
My truck is the 3.6L V6.
What about the mpg??
So far my average has stayed around the same. But it’s winter so the winter blend could be hindering slightly. It’s also hard to keep my foot out of the skinny pedal now...
What do you think about the diablo tune?
I don’t know much about it.
@@fondupot you should get the bnr tune and show us comparison of both, nobody else has done it so it should be a good video
I’ve never heard of BNR tuning. I’ll look into it.
The Chevy Colorado was supposed to have been a small affordable truck replacement for the Chevy S-10 the GMC Jimmy an the GMC S-15 an GMC Sonoma but along the way GM has seem to forgotten that because these bays the Colorado isn't so much a small truck any more when you look at small trucks from the 90's to early to mid 2,000's an the price tage of the Colorado reflects that
Yes, the truck is definitely bigger and more capable than the S-10 and Jimmy of the past. But that seems to be what the market wanted, something a little bigger and more capable, but not quite a full size. I think though, GM is planning a small pickup again. Thanks for watching and thanks for your comment!
It's never been a small truck it's a midsize truck and way better riding then that shity s10
How much HP does this add
Not sure honestly. Check their website.
for the 3.6L V6 Stock 257hp to the rear wheel to 273hp to rear wheel so a 16hp to rear wheel increase
Stock torque to rear wheel is 227ftp to 250ftp so an increase of 23 foot pounds of torque to the rear wheel.
My mpg dropped a lot after tuning my Colorado zr2.
Keep your foot out of the skinny pedal. Also if you did it recently winter blend gas is probably effecting your MPGs.
Yea..you want more power and performance but expect the same or better mph? Not trying to be jerk but all do respect what did you think would happen?
Hey are you in Monroe NC ?!
Near there. Yes. Are you local?
@@fondupot yeah I’m from there
i want to do this to my 2016 3.6 to make the power and transmission feel better. Also my tires are bigger and my speedo is slightly off around 70mph it's reading 1mph higher. Any drop in mileage?
Definitely worth it. Go with Advantage+
Too early to tell on mileage. Only been running for a week.
i use my cruise control a lot more than not when i cruise to work so i think i'd go with the advantage +
Yea. You’ll love it.
@@fondupot I think i'm gonna order mine this week. I was gonna wait until i hit 36k miles for my warranty but i like to live dangerously lol. I'll get my speed limiter raised too since my truck has higher rated tires :) If i ever need to change something like put on even bigger tires if i lift the truck can they do more tuning or is it one and done kinda thing?
I think on advantage + and elite you can make updates to the tune. You’re gonna love it!
Did the Advantage, found out the hard way that MPG takes a big hit. Went from 27.2 down to 19.6, even without AFM numbers, which before went to 34.5, but now is never higher than 26. There is no free lunch here people ! You pay over $330.00 minimum for the package, then you pay a lot more for increased fuel costs. And now, I'm thinking the engine will wear faster because of the increased demands made upon it. If you drive normal, forget this "Tune". If you are a lead-foot and have money to throw away, and don't care about wearing down the truck, buy the package and have at it.
Hmm. How many miles have you put on the tune? I didn’t notice any increased fuel consumption. Maybe you just have more of a lead foot now? What motor is your truck? I find it hard to believe the V6 would get 26 mpg average...19.6 average is actually fantastic for that truck in mixed driving conditions. That’s what i typically get.
Gonna call BS on this one . Your not getting a combined 27. You might hit that number as a current while coasting down a hill but your not getting even over the 25 mile avrg 27mpg. My avrg combined at 450 miles is 20mpg. Highway I can do an easy 23 mpg with cruise set at 65.
Does this tune allow you to go over 98mph ?
I believe there’s an option to remove the governor. Drive safe.
@@fondupot after contacting company you will get 115mph with stock tire rating
