    Another one man band shoot with lighting breakdown. This time I leave the room lights on, but that did cause banding issues. You can see the final result as I stand into frame and show you the results. Using my Sony FX6 and Aputure lights made things go a lot smoother.

      With the one man band stuff, it always happens. I was lucky it was only one trip. The worst is when you leave stuff at home! I seem to forget my XLR cables a lot recently.
      I scrub youtube looking for other production vloggers, but can’t seem to find them easily. We need a standard hashtag. I did PROVLOG, short for Production Vlog.
      Always a pleasure watching you and others!

    I am surprised at how much you have permission to show. So, Polish Peter, just a thought, when on your own and dropping the boom mic in, using a spare stand at the subject T mark using the top tip of the stand to mark the top edge of frame to bring boom mic down to. I know what a pain it is to work without another body. As always I enjoy watching your videos and marvel at where you find the time to make them. Cheers!

      I have so many shoots I wish I could share, but no permission. I always ask and am very aware of what can be shown. I sent this vlog via dropbox for client viewing and approval.
      Thank you for the boom tip! I will give it a try next time!
      I like to keep it high and a loose extension. Then when talent comes in, adjust after we confirm the mark.

    Piotr, I've been shooting probably since you were a kid but it's great to see young guys like you, up and coming, growing in their knowledge and skills. I'm constantly impressed with how well you can document things with your phone, Go Pro, etc for your Vlog as you are on shoots, that, in itself, is pretty difficult to do with the time constraints and things requiring your attention on set. I've been following Cranky Cameraman for a few years now and just checked out Morefield recently too on your recommendation. You are really up on the latest and greatest gear and gear set ups too so I find a lot of value from seeing your gimbal setup with the V-Mount and the EasyRig and how you are utilizing your FX6s.
    As a DP, I would suggest you perhaps try to mix up how you utilize soft, medium and hard sources perhaps a little more? I feel a lot of modern DPs have become overly dependent on ONLY utilizing large soft, diffuse sources on talent and there is a lot that can be done to make things a bit more interesting. Perhaps experiment a little mixing a harder source with your large soft, diffuse sources, to try utilizing some smaller, still diffuse, but harder sources. You have to know how to read faces, their angularity and skin reflectance values but I am always paranoid of editing my demo reels and seeing the same lighting in faces, over and over again.
    A good exercise on your off time would be to experiment with lighting a talking head or model solely with fresnels, no grids, frames, softboxes. Most modern corporate clients won't go for that kind of lighting but it can be a good tool for YOU to have in your toolbox that will set you apart from your competition. One of my absolute favorite photographers was George Hurrell, who was THE glamour photographer for the studios during the Golden Age of Cinema. He made all of these amazing images utilizing pretty much mostly carbon arc large fresnels and keep in mind he was largely shooting large format 4x5 and 8x10 negatives with ISO 25 or 50 film stock. georgehurrell.com/
    Your channel is growing really nicely so congratulations on that, you are making content that is finding a good audience!

      Hello Dan, sorry for the delayed reply. It is not easy trying to reply from a cellphone and read everything at the same time.
      Thank you for noticing the effort it takes to shoot and vlog as a one man band. I actually leaned a lot from CZcams when I started shooting back in 2006. I like to have modern gear, because it makes my job easier, even more so being disabled.
      I think the big trend for super soft light is the result of super sharp glass and cameras. I know back in the film days the film would soften things up and then they would add diffusion to the lenses too. So harder lights could play a lot better. I am still very green when it comes to lighting. I have been doing more prosumer lighting since mid 2020. A lot of my work is corporate and they like it flat and soft. But I will start mixing things up more. I can see how everything can start to look the same and I rather not be a one trick pony!
      I might have to hire or trade with a model/actress one day and put some lighting to the test. This would also be great to share with clients. I actually have a set of Arri Tungsten lights I can go crazy with, they do render the skin tones better than anything else man made. I have seen George Hurrell's work in the past, it is very impressive.
      I appreciate the kind words and support!

    • @PDMokry

      So with this client, I beat the contact in. We have it setup that way. I give myself 3hrs from arrival to my parking spot to actually filming. I often get done in 2hrs, but some spaces are harder to setup. Or security can be difficult.

  • @robinprobyn1971
    @robinprobyn1971 Před rokem

    Id bring the key around a bit, like 45 degrees,and actually put in some neg fill , don't be afraid of shadow (modeling ) on the fill side , otherwise its very flat and bit 2 dimensional . stills people have been doing this for decades in portrait shoots and Rembrandt way before :) . Not sure you're really getting any more softness of light with your diff rag , as it's not much bigger than the actual source you have in the first place, it's really just cutting down the intensity . But getting any light closer to the subject will soften it, the softness being the relationship between size and subject. You already have a big light source , unless you are pumping that into a much bigger diff frame , and so actually making a larger source ,it's not really doing much as you have it , just infront like that. But moving your soft box as close to the subject will make a big difference . Kudos for the video,s ,great to see.

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před rokem +2

      Thank you for the feedback! Client just loves the look of the more flat lighting. The person we were filming had a darker skin tone than me, so even with the bounce, we were getting a good ratio. I will have to give it a try next shoot with and without the second diff, and let everybody decide what looks better or if they are the same.
      Check out my paramedic video and you will see the Rembrandt lighting I did on that setup.
