    ❤ Respect! So Dude, you are a one hand, one man band. I know how tough it is to do this job with two working hands. I take my hat off to you. I love your setup. I work with a owner operator that had a lift/tailgate on his van, it made a heck of a lot of difference. My back thanked me. Load the carts once and roll them on and off.

    Nice dude. I just watched my first CrankyCameraman videos last night and you popped up in my feed. Love both your work, love the detail, your experiences... There ARE always little nuggets one can pull from the way others work. In the game for around 25 years and still learning and picking up gold. I've a strong BG in post but have always shot and produced / directed. My real focus atm is lighting / gripping and building up enough lighting kit to fill a van / cover most scenarios with my own gear. These kind of vlogs provide super useful reference, thanks mate. LOVE your organisation. Am looking for gaffer / gripping van build tips - those little things you learn when building out your van, using it, then refining it. That'd be a great watch for me. Regardless keep these videos coming. The occasion sarcasm / borderline dadjokes are good too haha

      Cranky is awesome to watch. He has such a different background and perspective at times. That makes for a great learning experience. It is cool to see the news side of the industry.
      I am no expert, but plan to showcase my van build and also why I use certain gear. I am never content on my setups, so I am always tweaking.

    Awesome video man. Just saw it posted in the Aputure group. I've got a similar amount of gear and largely a solo shooter but don't have a van, making the process of dragging over 600lb out of a car a nightmare. I use a bunch of big combo stands (Kupo 546M) which complicates the transport challenge. Really cool seeing your storage solutions and the use of crates. Definitely taking some inspo from this.

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před rokem

      This is awesome! I started with a tiny Ford Ranger with a camper top. I was lucky to snag a van before the world shut down. I feel I am outgrowing it already. But so many see it as their next move. The cheapest and biggest help is getting a hitch carrier for Magliners. I can fit 3 folded up on it and they are out of the way. They go on last and come off first.

    I’ve been looking at getting a SmallHD monitor. How do you like the Acton 5? I really want a monitor with SDI, but the price point is making me reconsider! Otherwise I’ll get a Cine 5 which is considerably more expensive!

      For a cheap high bright monitor, it is great. The colors lean a bit towards magenta. It is very light weight, so that is a big plus. It does lack a lot of great features, but I got it on sale for $270, so I am happy with it.

I got a comica d2 wireless mic with lavalier mics paired to them. Do i need something more ? What do i do ? Could you give me some advice on gear to purchase and or what to do with what I have ? • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před rokem +1

      Hello! I tend to lean towards boom/shotgun mics first and use a wireless lav as a backup. Sometimes you can only do one. Deity just announced and awesome setup called the Theos and it looks to be a game changer and at a great value.
      The boom mic should always be just out of frame. The closer you get to the subject, the better. Then you want to get pointing at their chest. That will get you great audio.

    Question, I like the crate system. I've had lots of success with doing sidio crates indoor for camera rigging equipment. Do you find it easier to bring lights in and out? I of course never leave lights inside my trailer when it's hot so that's why I've kept the bags. What are your thoughts?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před rokem

      I am always worried about theft and damage. I always pull all electronics. The crates are great for looking clean on set and moving gear in / out. They are easy to stack on a magliner and move around.
      I also remove all rags, flags, floppy’s and cutters to reduce dry rot when gigs are slow.
      The original cases I have actually used as camera bags for built out rigs.

    Dude, I've watched a few of your videos and I didn't realise your hand was paralysed. I recently had a really bad break on my left hand and I've partially paralysed my left hand. I should get a lot of mobility back over the next 12 months but in the mean time I've had a few people question my ability to work until then. Have you faced any discrimination or scepticism in your work?

    • @PDMokry
      @PDMokry  Před rokem +1

      First thing I would say is stick it out and never let it slow you down. Second would be avoid any pain meds. 20 years in and I have been off pain meds for 19 years, never got addicted, but did not want to destroy my liver.
      Most do not notice I have issues, because the brace I wear looks like it is just for a sprang or support. Which it is 100% for support and pain management.
      But I know it has prevented me from future or certain work. I try to focus on things I can do and hustle hard, leaving clients no option but to rehire me.
      With our industry, the higher you move up, the less physical labor you put in. The hard part is the little things. Like knots, wiring, nail + hammer and so on.
      I have always bought supporting gear to make it easier for me, like my EasyRig for handheld. But you can only do so much.
      Cameras are designed for right handed folks. So the FX6 handle is useless for me, so I can be slower at times. Same for photo cameras, I can change settings or focus points on the fly.
      Stay strong brother and you will shine no matter what!
      PS - Fell free to message me anytime!

    • @WhenWillILearn
      @WhenWillILearn Před rokem +1

      @@PDMokry Thanks for replying. The pain meds is something my girlfriend has been really worried about for me. I think it's much more controlled here in the uk, but I'm nearly four years off alcohol so it would be a shame to end up on pain pills instead.
      I'm told I'll need a similar brace. I feel lucky that it was my left hand - if luck comes into it at all.
