This song is focused on the great pain of divorce. This album came out in fall ‘22. Dan Donegan the lead guitarist/keyboardist had gone through a painful divorce and came to Draiman with this musical concept. As the two worked on it they realized they needed a female vocal counterpart. Ann Wilson and Disturbed have a mutual admiration for each other’s talents. She indictated that she’d love to collaborate sometime. She was the only one they wanted. This video came out over a year later and in the meantime Draiman went through a painful divorce too in ‘23. You can hear it in his voice and see it on his face.
David was trained as a cantor in the Jewish faith and man, what I wouldn't give to listen to his voice soar in a temple! He continually works with a vocal coach, even now, after years of success as a singer. And Ann ... sigh. A goddess, a queen of rock! At 73 she is still killing it and I adore her voice! I absolutely love this song! I couldn't wait for you to analyze it and then I missed the premiere since someone asked me to a meeting I couldn't refuse. Dang people pay you and then expect you to work ... LOL. Just rude. 😜😂
This is a great duet with both amazing vocalists. The crazy part is that she is 73 years old and still killing it.
Probably the greatest duet of all time, I cant think of any duet better off the top of my head.
Both compliment each other as great artists do. Ann can just kill it still. Two of the best singers out there. Thanks again Disturbed and Ann.
I'd suggest that the success of their Sound of Silence cover (phenomenal!) showed the world what they're capable of and showed Disturbed what the audience would accept from them and what rewards we are reaping for it.
Just saw Disturbed Thursday night in Knoxville, TN. He is great live as well.
I've always been a fan of both of them. Ann is I think in her 70s and she still sounds great. They are both such powerful singers. I'll probably get this song stick in my head again. I loved your reaction

Hi Beth I really like this song. David and Ann = Amazing. FYI Ann released a new album at the end of September. Also Heart us going on tour for their 50th with Cheap Trick and others. Did you know David only thought of Ann to do this duo. It's about his bad mate's divorce and then David also got a divorce after. Ann still Rocks at 73 and looks beautiful and she will be 74 in June and Nancy will be 70 in March
Such a powerful song and performance. Disturbed is currently on tour in North America, and Ann's part is being sung by the lead vocalists of one of the opening bands, Moriah Formica of Plush. She is a young powerhouse vocalist, and Plush is a fantastic group of young women. There is a decent video of Moriah with Disturbed up on Plush Rocks CZcams channel, but the official video of Plush's cover of "Barracuda" or Plush's own tune "Run" would give a better indication of Moriah's voice.
Moriah has in incredible voice - kind of if you combine Ann Wilson, Amy Lee and Lzzy Hale...I can't believe none of the vocal coaches have picked up on her yet...she is this generation's Ann Wilson. Def have to check out live version of this song...there are a couple newer ones with better sound.
Just saw the Disturbed on the 15th. Moriah KILLED this song with David. My fingers are still crossed that somehow, somewhere, Ann will join Disturbed on stage. I have always said, you have not heard the true power of Ann's vocals untill you hear her live...Same for David Draiman. Best duet Ann has ever done. So happy she agreed to record this song. At the time of recording, Ann was 71...5 decades in the music biz and she is still Rocks Queen.

A band of young ladies called Plush are currently on tour with Disturbed, David Draiman specifically wanted them on tour so they could perform this song live on tour, Plush's singer Moriah is like the laboratory experiment where they cloned Ann Wilson, close your eyes and the voices are so similar, its hard to tell Ann from Moriah, and she's like 22 or something. They just released their video for their cover of Barracuda, and its amazing.
Plush have included their cover of Barracuda on their "Find the Beautiful" EP. The entire band are around 21/22. Would love to hear Beth do an analysis of Plush.

Dave and Beth never disappoint, in their own ways and areas. Amazing performance and amazing analysis as always.
I would suggest another duo I loved with David himself featuring Lizzy Hale {Halestorm} in Lita Ford and Ozzy Osbourne song cover "Close My Eyes Forever", coming from David' alternative project DEVICE which I loved and made me discover Disturbed in a different light {I admit I did sleep on the band before listening David in DEVICE. The album is packed with several duos and other great collaborations, all amazing in their own way too, featuring M.Shadows {Avenged Sevenfold}, Glenn Hughes {Deep Purple, Black Sabbath} and most importantly my absolute favourite, Serj Tankian in the "political" song "Out Of Line" featuring also Geezer Butler {Black Sabbath} at the Bass.
I really love that album {almost more than any Disturbed one}, my only problem with it {and with "Close My Eyes Forever" in particular} is the overall length... way too short!!!

Beth, you're one of my favorite youtubers and I love your reactions and analyses. And I love this song! But the sound effects - the popping sounds, the typing sounds, the swishes - are killing me. I'm autistic and they are such a distraction I can't focus on what you're saying. The typing sounds make me feel like ants are crawling into my ears. I will miss you terribly.
