It would be so nice of you if you could test the mics with PC/Mac laptops.
@@esmaeilmirzaee can't see the point of that - in fact they'll be more variables doing it that way, too.
@@TotallydubbedHD Most of the lavalier microphones don't work with laptops. I am looking for a one with lower background noise that I could use with my Mac Book and phone.
@@esmaeilmirzaee these should, see the video for my description
@@TotallydubbedHD Thank you so much
Thank you for indoor and outdoor tests, really helpful!
Pleasure, glad you liked it!
Sennheiser has the best sound quality. If you turn on the volume using a good headphone and listen you can see the spikes bass from Shure. I won't even consider Rode which is terrible compared to these two. Amazing review, thank you so much.
Pleasure, glad you found it useful!
great review mate! well done 🙏🏻
Thanks buddy!
thanks! this was a helpful comparison
Pleasure, glad you found it useful!
Very thorough. Thanks. I have the MVL but have ordered the Sennheiser USB-C for use with my phone because I always lose dongles!
Pleasure, glad you liked the comparison!
I like that Sennheiser also makes a usb-c version of the XS, so that’s the deciding factor for me. Thanks!
Pleasure! Thanks for sharing
The Shure is too Sharp and Bright, and the Rode is Mumbly and Bassy, for me the Sennheiser sounds Best
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Came across your video when I was doing research on microphones, so glad I found your video, really appreciate your effort!! I wasn't sure which one to get, but the trrs audio jack is one of my main concerns as I'll be using it with my smartphone. Shure MVL has really strong esss sound, which can be edited on PR later on; while Sennheiser XS Lav is comparably convenient as I don't need to reduce noise & rumble.
Pleasure, glad you found this video useful :)
I feel like the sound from the Sennheiser was the best - in my opinion.
I just purchased the RODE Smart Lav+ yesterday and did a little test and it sounds great. Unfortunately I cant do a comparisson on my side as I dont have anything else to compare it to. But in your video here I think that the Sennheiser XS Lav sounds the best.
Very helpful, Thanks!
Pleasure, glad you liked it!
Excellent review thanks

Which of these has the least noise when the gain is cranked way up?
Thank you for the comprehensive video! I want to get one of these to connect to my Windows PC. What is the best way to do it? I really need to get the best possible audio quality.
Glad you enjoyed it. Honestly a cheap USB soundcard will do the job in avoiding any static sounds from the PC. That's what I do with my modmic.
SmartLav sounds more bassy to me. It feels nice for voice-overs in outdoors. Also, with that it picks up a lot of outside low frequency rumble, wich could cause extra post processing work.
Thanks for sharing!
Until the mobile phone tests, I was going with the Shure. But when directly connected to the phone, the others sounded better, especially Sennheiser. Since I don't have an adaptor or a recording device, to start with, Senn sounds like a good decision.
On a second listen, Sennheiser is better than Rode on direct connection to mobile.
@@3XwithFatih ha, glad my comparison could help :)
yo bro, i got the same mic, sennheiser xs lav, when i use it on my phone, it doesnt have sound quality anywhere close to yours? how is that possible? your quality is like 3x better... i tried lots of recording app's and settings too... hmmm, any idea whats wrong? thanks bro
Not sure, sorry! Maybe the phone? Or a faulty mic?
Can we use all of this mic with seinheiser ew100 g4 for church?
Thanks for the video. What kind of processing have you done to the audio in this video compared to the old one? I think the first one sounded better overall.
Glad you liked the videos!
No post-processing, other than the fact that one was using my old video editor and this one using my new video editor (Resolve). I will say comparing the two videos, it's due to the positioning of the mic, whereby in the old video I had a V-neck, while in this one a hoodie. Suspect that's why you hear a difference :)
just what i search for. thank you.
No worries, glad I could help; do drop a like or sub if you haven't already :)
Did you notice any differences in the mic gain? I tested the Sennheiser (USB-C though) and the volume is abysmal compared to the Rode with TRRS.
There wasn't much difference in gain, but there certainly is a difference. Can't remember which one was loudest, but I recall leaving the gain levels the same across all mic tests to make it fair
Thank you for this awesome video!
Which one would you suggest for best background noise reduction?
Liked and Subed
Cheers!
Thanks! Glad you liked the video.
I'd lean towards the Sennheiser for the best noise reduction.
@@TotallydubbedHD Hey man, I just want to say, I really appreciate you doing this. I plan on getting the newest Sony Xperia 1 iii phone and getting a 3.5mm microphone and putting them together to improve the quality of my youtube videos, and believe they will work well together. The Rodes have a bit of muffle, I'm thinking about the Sony ECM or the Shure MVL mics. What do u think?
@@fightsandfinance7570 glad you liked the video bud. I'd personally suggest the Shure.
How well do these work for phone/video calls? That's the primary reason I'm getting one. Do any if them have a noise isolation feature?
Can't see why there would be an issue.
Hi totallydubbedHD and other viewers. Not sure if anyone can help / advise here... slightly weird question, but.....If you place one of these mic's against a surface, what are they like at picking up bass frequencies -i.e thudding on walls?
I've tried to record the noise by placing my smartphone against the wall but it doesn't pick up the bass thuds too well on the playback, unless I turn the volume right up, where they are then just about audible but then it's mostly drowned out by hissing. ( This was just the inbuilt mic on my Galaxy S7 and default voice recorder program)
Does anyone have advice or experience on how the mic would perform at that task? Thank you..
For context - I have problematic upstairs neighbours doing DIY, running laundry machines and godknows what at stupid o clock, say 1AM to 5AM most nights with hideous thudding coming through the walls / ceilings ( and no, it certainly isn't what you're thinking before anyone says...!!!) after months of this, unfortunately, I am possibly going to need to take the relevant steps to remedy/report this. :( thanks.
Oh wow, that's a terrible scenario! To be honest, not really sure - but if you placed it on the walls, it'll not only pick up the hits but also any small knocks to the wall too (depending on the sensitivity of your source device). All of them should be fine for this, arguably the bassier one will be the Rode.
If you use the mic on a tablet does the audio come out from the tablet still for example if you have it plugged in and you do a phone call help please?
Really depends on your tablet configuration - if it has a dedicated mic jack, then yes, audio should still come out of your tablet.
Shure has the best clarity. Sennheiser and Rode emphasize low frequencies
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
It does sound like the XS Lav I'd best out of the box, maybe with noise gates and equalizer the Shure can hold more clarity, but it picks up quite a bit of ambient quite far away from the subject.
Will the XS Lav Mobile C-Type microprhone work with the GoPro Hero 9 Black action camera?
Not sure.
Well to my ears the Shure was the cleanest signal and better sound.
However the second set if recordings sounded slightly distorted or recorded to HOT.
Not sure of the price difference however for me
1) Shure
2) Rode
3) Senhisser
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Thank you, thank you Chris! Great comparison with everything you want to hear. For me: 1) Sennheiser 2) Rode 3) Shure MVL. I think the Sennheiser XS Lav mic sounds the best overall. Nice base, natural warm voice indoor, outdoor and with background music. But the Sennheiser doesn't sound clear on the phone recording! (listening on a noise canceling headphone) The Rode smartLav+ has some clipping or distortion, nice bass though, with indoor and background music sounds good. The Shure MVL : it's a favourite of many but those high S sounds, high peaks...I personally really don't like it. More background sound outside, less base.
Glad you found the video useful and thanks for sharing your thoughts!
Personally I think the rode sounds better, it's extremely close though. Thanks for this video
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great review
Thank you!
@@TotallydubbedHD I just got mine but found low voice volume both on my Mac and Windows laptop. Anything I need to adjust?
@@cliffli0712 can't think of anything, there's not much to adjust, other than your input volume on your computers or the location of it on your chest
@@TotallydubbedHD that's also what I thought. I've done those and none works. Anyway, I might get a defected one. Will change it. I really hope I can use it. Thanks for your reply.
@@cliffli0712 no worries!
Can u test this only with the sound of cars? I want to buy 4 of those for the perfect sound setup. Sinds you also have a car Chanel
No can do buddy, but the best out of the bunch for sensitivity is the Shure!
Hi , Great review
I want to buy a lav mic for filmmaking and to use it for CZcams
Which one of these would you suggest?
And also would you recommend SIG. Lav v05 from comica?
And what would you suggest Between these 4?
Thanks alot
Did you watch the video? As I've mentioned which one I prefer/actually use
@@TotallydubbedHD I rewatched and I saw the part, thanks 🙏
@@TotallydubbedHD And also , There are lots of brands and models for shotgun mics , what shotgun mic would you suggest for film making for around 50 to 100$
@@ryannelsonw not tried anything at that price, so can't comment
why Sennheiser XS in phone internal recorder test sounded much worse? it was software or mic just need a good sound card to performe good!?
Mic.
Hi, can the Sennheiser used with iPhone, using the lightning/jack adapter?
Yup should work
@@TotallydubbedHD
Thanks
@@agneswee7922 np
Will this Mic work through an Audio Interface?? Like Focusrite Scarlett?
Probably.
Very good noise reduction, but it sounds a bit dull
But I'm sure with processing it'll be good.
Could i use the sennheiser to plug-in directly to GoPro media mod?
Not sure, probably
If you lock the screen on your phone and stick it in your pocket will it still record?
That's dependent on the app you use, not the mic!
Sennheiser is the best. I am glad I bought the right one before watching this comparison.
Glad you're happy with your purchase!
Shure is best for singers and intense voice use. It was built with that in mind
Sennheiser is built for speaking...
How do I use any of these mics with a mixer ?
Depends on the poles of your mixer, best looking it up, but I presume you'll need the SC3 (or similar) adapter
Other question, can I plug it directly into my Macbook 2012?
Depends on the poles of the Mac - suspect you can without the adaptor
which one do u suggest more for recording guitar bro?
Hard to say, depends on what your preference is!
@@TotallydubbedHD i want for acoustic guitar can u guide me pls? i want the one which has more details and exact sound its not for electric guitar i want the one which has more feeling
@@shahabamiri0080 in that case I'd suggest the Shure
Which is best for outdoor video shoot noice cancellation like mr. beast? ❤
Better ask him!
what mic are you using before and after the lav mic tests?
Zoom H1n :)
@@TotallydubbedHD wow im impressed! it sounds really good, so does the Shure Lav... the other lavs have way too much bottom end wofflyness, especially outside... great comparison, thanks
@@user-lw2id4gk7p thanks for sharing; pleasure, glad you enjoyed it!
If a lav mic has 2 meters, just create a slip loop a little larger than normal you could also make 2 slip loops. Just use gaffer or whatever tape you have. You should already know how to make these loops as they are key for ensuring your subject doesn't put strain on your lav mic.
Thank for all labor you put into your video. I'm impressed with work you do and wishing with all heart that i'm not last saying it! Oh, hi from Ukraine. Even here you're catch me up!
Thank you for the lovely comment, glad you enjoyed it!
Sennheiser arrived in budget market with high quality stuffs. Bye Others!
Thx
Sennheiser é o melhor! ;)
Can these be used as wireless microphones? with computer?
If your PC has a mic input, then yes - but you'll likely need the SC3 adapter
@@TotallydubbedHD Does that reduce quality of voice significantly (like it does on most bluetooth headphones).
@@dummyemail4738 not at all; I use the SC3 adapter all the time :)
@@TotallydubbedHD Cool! Thanks.
@@dummyemail4738 pleasure, don't forget to drop a like or sub!
How the hell does anyone pick anything different than the sennheiser? Insane quality for it's price, very impressed.
Shure wins by a long shot. As usual, they do make the best vocal mics
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
That first switch to the Rode sounded like pure DOODOO 🤢 Sennheiser & Shure are for sure the better raw options. The outdoor test, I prefer the Sennheiser; more focused vocal, minimal background noise. The shure has an elevated frequency and slighter louder pickups all around volume wise for vocal & background. I think imma go Senny 🔥🔥🔥 thank you!
Pleasure, glad you liked the video! And indeed, I'm not a fan of the Rode either.
Sure has a little better clarity, but is more sibilant. Sennheiser wins! :)
Thanks for your input!
@@TotallydubbedHD Excellent review, by the way!
@@phcduarte thank you!
Sennheiser sounds smooth on the voice. The other two, harsh.
Interesting, wouldn't say that's the case!
@@TotallydubbedHD An extremist review on my part! I did mention, however, my thoughts that the
Rode might be idea for picking up a male baritone voice.
Thank you...I went with the USB-C sen XS based off this video
Pleasure, glad you enjoyed it!
The shure seems the best as compare to all 3 of them..
Yup!
Lavs are all nice but your studio mic is an echo chamber. 😳
It's not that bad, don't exaggerate lol
Sennheiser is best sound quality
Fair enough
