Great and nicely composed review of both outstanding brands... Now I can decide which one for me.. Thank you....
Glad you enjoyed it!
This video was a great help! Thank you
Glad it was of help!
Good job man.. love ur stuff
Thanks!
Thank you, very helpful video. The Rode sounds warmer, and the sounds blend together. The Shure reduces outdoor noises better and each speaking sound is more distinct to my ears. I prefer the Rode for the blending, "harmonious" feeling, but the Shure sounds more professional. Again, thank you for the video! Have a great day.
Thank you for your feedback, and I’m glad you found the video helpful!
Amazing review .. thank u alot ❤❤❤
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the comment!
Thank you Rowan, your review was very representative. I liked Shure more too. Heading to Amazon now :)
Glad you found this helpful!
Pretty good but the black rings are the Insulators between the Gold contacts that carry the signal, i.e. 2 black rings is 3 contacts.
Awesome review
Thanks!
thank you. I’ve spent hours looking for guidance for a mic that can work directly with my iPhone. you’re the only person that has made any sense. Have a great night!
Glad I could help!
Thank you 🙏
very good comparison of the two, I wasn't clear on if the rode can use the iphone voice recording or just the shure. thought the rode was a little "warmer" but that the shure was crisper thanks for the effort
Thanks for the comment! Yes the Rode can also use the iPhone’s default voice recorder as well.
Hey Rawan what's the background music? love it.
Thank you very much for your comparison. i just bought Rode Lav+ four days ago, and I do find it is more bass-heavy sound. I can't adjust gain control in Rode Rec, Rode Reporter App, Voice Record Pro nor Shure Motiv Audio Apps since 0% to 100% gain slider makes no difference with Rode Smartlav+ plugged in. Can you kindly test if you can record Shure MVL with Shure Motiv to adjust volume/gain control please? I am thinking to swap for Shure MVL lapel mic with the already purchased Rode Smartlav+.
Thank you, amazing video, the best of the reviews of microphones i ever seen. For me i preferred much more the Rode Lavalier +
Thanks for your comment, glad you liked it!
Nice video!
Thanks!
Thanks Rawan, I already own a Shure MVL and wanted to get another one, but did not know which to choose. I think I will get another MVL 🤪 Great review!!
Happy to have helped!
Shure for sure!
The Shure sounds amazing and is better than most mics below the $300+ professional mics so for the money it's a steal.
Based on general reviews It seems that experienced users are praising the Sure lav mic, HOWEVER, I have a hunch that if you are a male who is a bass (lower voice than a baritone), then the Rode lav might do the trick for you! It would accentuate your range.
A baritone is higher than a bass. Please go and learn elemental music before giving such radical statements.
I did better. I fixed my mistake. Elementary, my dear! @@JuanMariaSolare
i vote for Rode SmartLav+ sound fuller. i also like the Saramonic sr-ulm10
Just a quick info for DJI users : Shure MVL will NOT work with DJI Mic 2 (you need a TRS adapter as Rode SC3) / But great with the mic 1.
good vid, tho might i add that when testing a microphone you should'nt have music running in the background (for some specific time, longer periods are fine ofc.) since that can alter the results. Also what's important to me if the microphone makes any noise in complete silence, since some mics have like some kind of rustling noises in complete silence. Liked and subscribed! I'll pick the Shure btw :D
For some reason your comment was held for review, I just saw it now! You're absolutely right, and in subsequent videos I tried to silence the music track when testing the mic quality. Mic self-noise is also important and I actually remained silent for a few seconds in an upcoming video so people can hear that ;) Thanks for the comment and for subscribing!
Hi Rawan, thank you for the video. Is there any issue recording with the regular iPhone camera? Many thanks.
Hi! In most cases, not at all, as long as the iPhone is quite close to you to capture your voice clearly (and there isn't too much background noises). Here's where a lav mic comes in handy though; it allows you to be further away from the phone (camera) while still maintaining good voice quality. Cheers!
Hi. Great video. Did you edit the audio before uploading to CZcams?
Thanks! Not at all, only the audio in the intro using the studio (condenser) mic was edited. All audio from both lav mics was used raw, as is, and simply synced with the video in post production.
@@RawansReviews oh wow. Not bad sound quality then considering it wasn't edited. I will try one of these mic for my videos.
@@TheMalcolms7 Definitely not bad at all! I had a quick look at your channel and indeed I think it would elevate your sound quality. It appears you tend to shoot your videos with the camera quite close to you, so another option you could explore as well is a shotgun mic. The Rode VideoMic Go is similarly priced as the lav, and as long as you shoot at a close distance from the camera, it could sound good as well and would give you freedom from wires / having to sync audio in post. I also reviewed it, might be worth checking out: czcams.com/video/b0hR5fAu-5E/video.html Good luck!
I vote for Shure MVL
tip: dont play music during sound checks
Thanks Ian. You're absolutely right, and I avoided doing that in subsequent videos. Cheers!
Good job sir
Thank you!
Hi Rawan, great video, could I ask you two questions?: I want a lavalier to use it primarly for recording with my smartphone, but if also I want to use it for the computer, could I use the same? or do you think I need a different one for the computer?
Another question, could you tell me what brand and model is your mic that you use at the beginning of the video? , thank you
Hi Erick. If you will primarily use it on for recording on your phone, I would recommend one of these mics then that were designed to work with your phone out of the box. They would still work on your laptop as well, but depending on the mic socket you have in your laptop, you might need to get an adapter or splitter. The mic I used in the beginning of the video is the MXL 2006. Cheers! Rawan
@@RawansReviews thanks for your answer 👍🏻👍🏻
@@RawansReviews Bro, what do you think about the new Sony Xperia 1 iii + one of these for youtube videos? Good for a starter?
@@fightsandfinance7570 Definitely good for a starter!
Thanks for the video bro.Shure is really good with less background noise.
Thanks for watching!
Shure sounds boxy, cause it lacks bass. Heard that on many videos by now.
I am going for the Rode...
Hate them for not including more accessories, but... c'est la vie.
Yep Shure wins! Thanks for putting this together
Wow the Shure walked all over the Rhode
Can it be used with a bluetooth adapter (like Sony SBH24)? and then used as input for laptop? I guess, can it be converted into bluetooth/wireless microphone?
Haven’t tested, but don’t think it would work like that
You mentioned that you boosted the Shure mic by 6db in lost production. Is there a reason for that? Is it a quiet mic?
Not particularly. It was because of the difference in gain on my recording devices actually. If you want to have an idea, listen to the outdoor tests (@ 05:25), in those test they're both recording to the same iPhone, and the Shure was not boosted in post over there. Cheers!
@@RawansReviews do you find the SHURE MVL/A creates any background hiss at all? I find Rode mics are all terrible for self noise
You do not need a rode smartLav+ just any lavalier with a TRRS (not TRS) plus the apple lightning dongle. Shure makes the best mike for the money. However there are other competitors below $25.00 Agpteck and Vojopi are excellent. Rode is middle of the road and expensive..
is it recommended for office conference calls? i am worried they will pick up sound from the headphone's listening voice since it is so close to that.
While I haven’t tested it in such an environment, I wouldn’t think it would be a good option. I’d be more worried it would pick up ambient noises from the office more than a headset with a boom mic for example would.
what brand is microphone you are using before testing lavaliers?
This is the MXL 2006 condenser mic
@@RawansReviews its not natyral sound but its sounds great.
@@klajdi9999 That is very true. I have applied some EQ tweaks in post-production to make it sound better ;)
I vote for SmartLav+
watch it at 1.25x
is Shure work with iphone 11 ?
Shure thing! ;)
Why aren't you just plugging the Shure trrs cable into the phones 3.5 stereo/headphone jack? Why are you putting it into the phones usb port? I don't understand?...SBN RESONATE
Because the iPhone no longer has a 3.5 jack. Thus using a lightning to 3.5 mm converter.
