New Paludarium Fish & Blue Dream Shrimp

  • It's finally time! Let's get those LRB Blue Dream Shrimp into their new home! I've been letting this tank cycle and I had to move it to a new location, so I took my time with all of this. That's one of the things I always advocate too, take your time! There's no rush for any of this and generally things will turn out better if you take your time. Anyways after about three months I'm so glad to finally have these shrimp in their new home.
As for the White Cloud Mountain Minnows in the Fire-Bellied Toad paludarium, they are doing quite well. Like I said in the video, this practice should be done at your own discretion, so I can't advocate it per say. However, under the right conditions it can work and I know a lot of others have had success with this as well. Just don't say I didn't tell you so if you try it and things don't work out for you. Regardless I'm glad that I gave it a try and really hope it works out long-term. They add a whole new dynamic to the setup that is really enjoyable.
Stay tuned for updates on both of these and some upcoming project that I mentioned in the video!
I know a lot of you are going to want to see what light I was talking about in the video. This is just a cheap LED shop light. If you're on a tight budget or just want something inexpensive, this appears to be a descent solution. They've been working pretty well for me, especially considering the price.

Also Lucas Bretz filmed few videos while he stopped by the animal room. I'll leave a link to his channel an those videos below. I'd recommend checking out those videos if you want to see some fish nerds talking tank!

What do you think about the blue dream aquarium? Also what type of fish would you house with these shrimp long-term? I want to let the colony grow out for a few months, but I will add fish down the road. Let me know! 👇

Maybe some honey gouramis? Like blue and yellow contrasting with zebra stones.
I love your tanks so much thanks for your videos :)
Is your black water tank getting more tanin later? I saw roibos tea is very cool to get tanin and it’s good for the fishes too.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this already so I apologise if I'm repeating.
Frogs and toads don't produce their own poison, they get it from the insects that they eat. Therefore, unless they are recently wild caught, they are not poisonous. They might eat the fish but any other "mixed results" (I assume that means fish deaths) are down to health/water quality/feeding issues.
Excellent set up and video it's the 1st time I've been to your channel but I'm definitely going to be back!

Tanner, Thank you SO much for sharing your knowledge and talent! You inspired me to start my build in a 54 gallon Corner tank. I have been told over and over not to do a water feature, but your Fire belly Toad Paludarium is exactly what has me still going that direction, and the fact that it is currently working with the Minnows in the tank gives me hope for what I am trying to do. Your videos have inspired me to chase this dream I have had since I was a little kid, and I truly cannot thank you enough for that!

The shrimp tank is looking amazing, they really pop against the zebra stone. Some fancy guppies could both contrast and co-ordinate with the shrimp, maybe with blue and red tails. I love the addition of the white fish into the toad’s tank, they really add movement and interest.casper is looking really happy in his new set-up, and it has a dramatic look from the wood arcs. You definitely have the right touch for making these show their denizens at their best. Very informative as well regarding the adjustment of water for the shrimps. You have the perfect meditation area right there, and your shelving ties it all together perfectly. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips with us.🖤🇨🇦

For Fire Bellies try duckweed. If you look at the markings on the back ( especially around the head and neck) of the toads you will probably notice little bright green flecks. I believe that fire bellies evolved this pattern to mimic duckweed. Duckweed is indigenous to all of China.
    Cheers,

    • @PredictableEnigma
      @PredictableEnigma Před 5 lety +5

That was a one off thing he was doing. The only other budget terrerium of his that comes to mind off the top of my head is the native terrarium, simply because it is made of things he picked in his local area. Not that he always spends a ton of money on every set up or anything, it just isn't the focus of the videos. He does keep his own populations of moss, insects, and substrate on standby which likely cuts his costs a lot, plus he buys some things in bulk, but that is not ideal for someone that just wants to build a couple things and then stop. The channel mainly focuses on trying new things in the hobby and encouraging people to get creative with the resources they have.

Just discovered your channel. Grade A production quality and love the detail. Would hate to see your electric bill but can’t put a price on passion

That betta tank you made has me wanting a betta and I don’t even keep fish. Maybe it’s time to get into the hobby

I've had good luck breeding white clouds and found their generally easy with spawning mops or plenty of moss as their egg scatters

in my opinion, it is a good thing to give your toads something to hunt. its int heir instincts and prevents them from becoming bored/ lethargic.

I'm with you. I always stock with crickets and other critters as well. Since the tank is so planted it takes them awhile to eat everything about thus can satiate their hunting instinct. 😉

You have a lot of nature in your house. Your aquariums and terrariums look very nice though.

Exactly, that's the main downside with these cheaper lights. Not sure I've noticed growth much better with a full spectrum tbh though. I'm sure it does, but to what extent?
