Can shrimps live with guppies?
@@dudeamazed1236 yep
can these live with other neocaridina shrimp?
It's good that you don't wave your camera back and forth, back and forth and make people motion sick like 99% of shrimp keepers.
I do my best. Thank you! : -)
LOL!
Jamey Craig right now I only sell at Chicagoland swaps and auctions.
Shrimp keeping is so so different from fish keeping and been loving it so far, started out with 6 and now there are several dozens of them.
It sure adds entertainment to a fish tank!
Same goes for owning Livebearers though haha 😂 you could start with 6 guppies and end up with 200 in a few months XD
@@hawkflightstables9262 yea, now I kinda regret buying guppies since my 20 gallon is becoming overstocked 🤣
whats ur secret to breeding them or do they do their own thing
@Bruce Lee Guppies are by far the easiest fish to breed, keep them in a nice 10+ gallon and males and females and expect some babies! It doesn’t take any effort on your part to get them to breed other than a nice tank 👌 (I have about 150 guppies) I started off with 2.. a male and female he got her pregnant and soon he died then the female gave birth to 3 babies and she died at birth then the 3 kids over bred and now I have overstocking issues... so definitely not hard to breed guppies.
They don't initially sound very exciting to keep but my shrimp tank is one of my favorites!
They're fun to watch!
Great video again. I keep my breeding colony in a 24x12x12in on the kitchen counter. People often comment on how dirty it is, as it has a thin film of algae over most of the glass. That is by design. The shrimp seem to farm the algae. Maybe they can't strip that final thin layer, but they tend to spend most of the time on the glass grazing the algae like cattle or ants maybe. I feed mine 6 days a week, and I use the algae as a guide as to the size and frequency of the feeding. More algae on the glass, cut back on feeding, maybe fast for a day. Less algae up the food. They will eat most vegetable scraps, and any kind of fish food, they are not at all fussy. I like to throw a half an eggshell in there once a month, washed as well as I can to remove all the gooey liquid. The shrimp absolutely go nuts for it, and they seem to eat the stringy film on the inside of the shell. and I guess they eat the shell as well, because I never fish it out. I figure it will supply them with the minerals they need to construct their own shells....and it certainly hasn't done the shrimp any harm. The tank has been spitting out shrimp for 3 years now, and has been a nice little earner.
Those shrimp breed prolifically, to the point I have to cull some occasionally (they outbreed the market), and have inadvertently created a colony of shrimp in my peacock tank.....you never see them but they are definitely living in the rockwork and the plants I have recently introduced should provide some additional habitat. And I guess the shrimp will provide both entertainment and some light snacks for the fish. I intentionally introduced a colony to my 3ft community tank, with guppies, kuhli loaches and bristlenose. It's a heavily planted tank, and the shrimp are thriving. I'm sure some get picked off, but they are definitely producing more shrimp than are being eaten. I often see babies picking over the substrate, totally exposed and they seem to be left alone for the most part. The bristlenose do an exceptional job of cleaning the algae from the glass on this tank, so you don't see the same grazing behavior on the glass of that tank.
I also keep a backup colony in a 5 gal, and they breed in there as well. So they aren't too picky about the size of the house they are in. That said, they don't breed prolifically in the 5 gal, and that colony sustains a relatively stable number of shrimp without me having to intervene, so I would suggest a larger tank if you want to actually produce excess shrimp to sell. Anyway, keep up the excellent work Jason!
Wow blah blah it's not your video!

Love your story. Thanks for sharing that's my fish is to have a whole ecosystem eventually working my ready up to a big community tank of some kind. Probably why have shrimp because I kinda want to make it a cold water tank. Why to do using heaters I don't have enough power outlets lol
@@Jcharp12 just a comment lol. They sent advertising anything. You chose to read the story. Stop being angry. You obviously read the entire story this person wrote. I've been looking for an animal to take care of and I clicked this video and every thing you mention is perfect for what I can provide. This may be a sign.
Cool!
3:52 that's a cool yellow wild type!
Great care video! Really enjoyed it. Congrats to your boys on their successful breeding project!
Thank you!
classic neocaridina shrimp. love their beauty
Shrimp with guppies do great. I keep my shrimp with guppies and Plecos.
Shrimps are so underrated. I love them.
Thank you for that informative video. 😊
Love anything related to shrimp. Great information here. Your cherry shrimp are beautiful too.
Thank you!
Great video! Always learning something here keep up the awesome work!
Thank you! Appreciate you watching.
Probably the best video I’ve seen to date on this subject
Thank you!
full of solid info as always!! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Gotta love shrimp!!
Thanks Carlos! Hope all is well with you.
Great info Jason! Awesome video! Than you for sharing!!!
Thank you!
Thank you for the uploads you have inspired me to start my own CZcams channel 🙏🏽 I now have 25 Red Cherry Shrimp and a few are pregnant 🤩✨
I always enjoy your videos they are packed with awesome info
Appreciate you being here!
Here wishing you guys the best in your collaborations. The cherry shrimp are fun species I have a ton in most of my tanks. Little clean up crew.
Glad you're having fun with them!
the shrimplets are so cute!!!
The timing on this video is awesome! I just converted a previous used 29 into a Neo-cardina Blue Dream shrimp tank. At the Champaign fish auction I bought a dozen shrimp and a bunch of Endlers Livebearers. I just turned down my heater though after watching this video since my tank was at 82, so fixed that.. TY :)
That's so cool. I bet that tank has a LOT of color popping!
For what it’s worth, I keep my cherries in a 20 gal with 15 neon tetras and a honey gourami and they are breeding like crazy. The tank is heavily planted and there are rock piles so that might be making the difference.
Also, after the tank stabilized I stopped doing water changes but I still check for ammonia a few times a week. For filtration I only run two sponge filters.
Excellent vid and good shots! :)
Thank you Taylor! Looks like we're both doing the shrimp thing. : -)
Great video, thank you!
Have one shrimp tank... planning more! Great video!
Very cool!
Good info in this video. You guys do great work.
This weekend I had a little surprise batch of baby Ghost shrimp and that tank they were in had a crack form from being old and used. Luckily it wasn't fully through and I caught it so I panicked and went and bought a small top fin engage 5 gallon to setup as a specific small shrimp tank for them. I have about 10 of them and they all seem to be really happy in that little tank. 👌
Glad you were able to save them!
Great info once again!

Great information. Thank you for sharing! - Little Bobby
Thanks for watching!
Iv got a community tank 4ft bow front 1 bristlenose pleco, guppies, cardinal tetras, armarno shrimps, and now some cherry's thanks for the vid
Great job Jason, I’m trying some orange shrimp that I got from Flip Aquatics!
He has a great strain going!
I had three very small guppies in my aquarium with my shrimp and assumed everything would be fine because they were too small to eat the shrimp, but they were large enough to harass females in an effort to peck away the eggs they carried. The moral of the story is "No fish is too small to be a threat to your shrimp."
You think embers would be an issue?
Great info all around!
My cherry shrimp really like boiled spinach and eating the micro-organisms that result from catappa leaves breaking down.
Dwarf water lettuce is another great floating plant for surface area.
Thanks for sharing what has worked for you!
I plan to breed my own shrimp one day, I just need to get a hold of reputable sources online so I can pull stock from them occasionally boosting genetic diversity. I may even try outcrossing to re-invigorate lines.
I kept my shrimp in my densely planted tank and it's a success! They cleared the algae, detritus and they kept breeding.
Very cool!
Great video 👍
I love my 10 gallon Cherry Shrimp tank. I do a 10-20% change weekly, and have basically a big ball of Christmas moss and then a pile of lava rocks. Mine stay at about 75, PH 7.6, TDS around 250. Of all of my tanks, it my GF and families favorite tank, they love looking for the shrimp babies!
Nice! Moss is great to have with shrimp for sure!
Glad I came across your channel. My local fish keepers won't give up their sources and they don't breed their own shrimp and they always only have cherry or Sakura orange and of course PetSmart has "assorted fancy shrimp". I have been wanting amano shrimp. They are not here. Will be ordering through flip aquatics once the weather gets warmer
I have learned that my albino Cory's eat the babies and they out complete the shrimp for any substantial food. If I drop a wafer or block in the Cory's swarm it and the shrimp they to bix the Cory's but can't hurt them to get to the food. The only guy that beats the cory us my massive mystery snail
you got a new subscriber! great channel
Glad you are here!
I love finding the baby shrimp in my tank! They are so small! Barely thicker than a strand of hair.
I wish I could see them. Haha
I finally got some 🍒 shrimps for my daughter! She's 10yo now
Ordered some Black Rilis from Flip, they're about an hour away, which is nice!
Wonderful video
Definitely a good video! I'm planning on getting some Blue Dream neos after I get my 29g cycled. I'm basically planning a giant nano tank: just some neos and phoenix rasboras. It'll be my first community tank ever! I've been a complete betta specialist up unto this point. Plus, the 29g will be my first fully planted tank too. I have all of my plants and such coming in this week, so I'm really excited!
That sounds cool!
I think I’ve found a use for my spare 10 gallon tank, it’s got some hornwort, and a few spare water hyacinth, perfect breeding tank for cherries and rams horn snails...
This channel is awesome
Thank you!
I usually put guppy fry as soon as they born. Give them 3 to 4 weeks then place the fry with my breeding fry tank.
6:30 (Or maybe a little earlier) There’s a shrimplet descending on your tank’s plants in a quick shot.
I just used the water from my old bigger tank
I have a 15 gal tank. I took my time before adding shrimp letting the plants grow. I saw very little when I added the first 10 RCS, mistake as I added another 10. It was not too long before they were everywhere. I have Frogbit as a floater and they seem to be having shrimp acrobatics on the roots, fun to watch. Tank mates 10 Boraras micros, I don't think they eat any so tiny. 4 Neon Tetras they spend all day hunting swimming at 45% looking at what is moving. Only rarely have I seen them make a successful dive. But the shrimp are breeding well.
Sounds like a fun tank to watch! : -)
My betta lives peacefully with three amanos and I'm going to try to start a small cherry colony with him and the amanos :D
Thanks for the vid it really helped!!
I also had 3 Amanos with my betta, but after he died and I got a new betta, the new one ruthlessly hunted the amanos, and even my snails. Now his tank has a lot of algae... that wasn't a smart move on his part
FathomtheFishy - my betta ate my cherry shrimp
@@Vohasiiv my new plakat betta Male is (thankfully) ignoring my juvenile chili rasboras, but giving my large nerite snails the stink eye constantly. Just ordered some neocardina adults for this setup, hope they will do ok. The tank is planted, but the betta is spending more time in the lower parts of the tank than expected so far.
It really is luck of the draw. My male coi Nemo betta lives in harmony with a colony of cherry shrimp, and three mystery snails. They do have lots of rocks, plants and leaf litter to hide in(20 long) BUT my hellboy betta male killed all the cherry shrimp living with him in a similar set up. Also relentlessly attacked mystery snails which I moved to another tank. Am hoping their antennas will grow back. He does however live peacefully with large Amano shrimp and otos. So goodluck to anyone thinking about trying this out. Bettas have such different personalities, which is why I love them, but be prepared with another tank just in case.
Great video! I’ve got a 40 gallon that I was going to use for cherry shrimp,it’s been set up for about 6 months with just plants (a lot of them). So, it’s an established tank but not cycled. After watching this video I think I’ll move my bristlenose in there.
If it's been set up that long with plants it may very well be cycled.
It's seasoned perfect for your shrimp
My beta fish just died and I kind of want to learn and research about different aquatic creatures I could keep in his old tank. Been thinking about snails and shrimp! This video is super helpful 👍
Good luck!
Have my first neocardia shrimp breeding tank a 30gallon with featherfin rainbows
great video

Nice vidéo!!!👍
Thank you!
I feed mine spinach, pollen powder, dandelion leaves, zucchini, nettles, green beans, bananas etc and they love it
Bananas? Roflmao xD
Never been interested in keeping shrimp, unless, they are of the eating kind. :))
Very informative video tho'.
I gotta heavy planted 20g it's giving me baby mystery snails, WCMM fry and I tried a new food.. now I have 30-40 cherry shrimp!
Love the video. I had started a shrimp colony a few months ago and this video answered the majority of my questions. They are now currently thriving, and I’m getting ready to start selling them to local stores. Do you have any tricks for separating the larger sellable sized shrimp from the babies? Heavily planted tank with many obstacles.
I wish I did. I usually scoop them out and try to remove small ones or just include them at no cost.
Jason sweet shrimp setup. You’re boys made the right decision, you can 👀 the fruit of there labor. So many awesome 👏.
Thank you Rick!
I change 10% once a month and have crazy breeding
Do you add liquid fertilizer when you are not water change in that month? I started shrimp keeping (shrimp only tank) and it has been 18 days since last water change and Nitrate level is 5ppm so I did not do water change. I usually add liquid fertilizer when I do water change so, it has been 18 days since last dose. I can dose just liquid fertilizer when I am not doing water change?
Love my neos
I keep 2 cherry shrimp in a 20 gallon tank with some other bigger fish and they have never been eaten.
I honestly believe that shrimp should get a tank for a 10 gallon
Sooo for me in Wisconsin that can’t get my room over 65 a heater will be needed
Thanks so much for this enlightening video! I would also really appreciate your help with 2 questions I have: how do I create a well established tank? For example, I want to start a cherry shrimp tank but I'm not sure when to introduce them to the tank because it would be brand new. Should I cycle the tank and wait for some algae to grow before putting them? As for my second question, do they have to have live plants and if so, what are some easy plants for beginners? Tysm!
Definitely want a cycled tank (Fritzyme 7 can help with that). You could try some Java moss and hornwort. Both are pretty easy and grow well.
I'm curious as to what that plant is with the long narrow leaves around 1:02 & it looks different than guppy grass. Thnks & I love your videos, very informative.
It's some type of guppy grass but I don't remember which type. : -) Thanks for watching.
Hey Jason, great video. My gH is at a 180. WHOA! What can I do to get it to the 7-15 gH you recommend?
You're already there. 180ppm is just over 10 degrees :-)
Thinking the new used ten will be a cherry shrimp tank Professor.
Cool!
In regards to your subject about decorations, how do you feel about bare bottom tanks, or under gravel filters? In your video, it looks like youre using gravel. What about things like fluorite, or fertilizer
type substrate?
I have a tank with fluorite and the plants grow better in that tank than any other. I use both liquid ferts and root tabs in shrimp tanks with no issues. I don't like bare bottom for shrimp because they so love to pick through the substrate.
i have a 10 gallon and i wanted to know the max capacity of it was?
Funny how you were lucky enough to find a use for morning wood repashy. I tried it and all of my fish ignore it and same for shrimp even weeks later. I even seen one ride shrimp briefly ride on it then say words like "yuck! broccoli!" and it moved on cuz better things in life lol. But I have seen my shrimp go after rotifers and even chase down live moina 😅
I'm getting some cherry shrimp soon. 😊 I've had Amano's for a while (the fact they don't breed in freshwater suited me for my intro to shrimp) and now I feel like I'm ready to try cherries. I've checked their compatability with my fish and my water parameters, as well as giving my filter a thorough 'going over' for shrimp-proofing and I think we're good to go. 😊
Awesome! I think you will enjoy them. : -)
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I'll definitely post videos and photos once I get them. 😊
Thanks for the video. I am currently waiting on a shipment of 20 red cherry shrimp from Flip Aquatics. How would you say is the best way to acclimate them before adding them to my aquarium?
That is a great question. I tend to temperature acclimate them and just release them into the tank (without adding the bag water). However, I thought I remember seeing Rob drip acclimate his before. I think he has a little section on his website how to best acclimate his shrimp and I know he's done videos on it before so I would defer to him.
nice info!! would shrimps do okay in a fake planted aquarium?? it does has plenty of decors and hiding spots. Also, I do have a 10 gallon that has LIVE plants in it, but it has internal filter that hangs on the back. would that suck up the shrimps? or do i need to use a different filter?? thanks...
As long they have food I think they will do fine with fake plants. I have found any filter with an intake needs to be covered with sponge to prevent shrimplets from getting sucked in.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had fish or aquatic pets and I didn’t know anything about water hardness or what not and I still don’t tho I’m sure you have a video about that stuff would be helpful to go over what that stuff is for like true newbies
Here you go! czcams.com/video/xRYdtvakfv0/video.html
Learned that all colored Neocaridina shrimp are just line-bred from Red Cherry Shrimp. I'm thinking about starting a 5 gallon Jade Green Shrimp Breeding Project to compliment my Clown Killifish Project.
That will be cool. Fun fact - I have some black shrimp that are putting out some of the deepest red cherry shrimp I have ever seen!
Will cherry shrimp feed on hair algae?
How offen you change the water and like how many % est. And do you top up the water level between water change ? Thanks
Here's what we do: czcams.com/video/2hr02gxpk2I/video.html
Thanks for the tips, can you breed both shrimp and guppy in the same tank?
Usually the guppies will eat the baby shrimp because they are so tiny.
love your videos what temp.should they be. JD
They really thrive in the upper 60s (basically an unheated tank).
Shrimple care guide
Do you guys have a pygmy corydoras care guide video? I’m a teen currently and i’ve been thinking about housing some of them in the 10 gallon I have but want to learn more about their needs before I set up the tank. Honestly, i’m kinda expecting a 10 gal tank to be too small for them, but I want to put myself to the test and try to care for one of my favorite freshwater fish.
Here you go! czcams.com/video/B9VfuiWqeY4/video.html
What about the orange bee shrimp. Petco had it at 80.*. I bought 3 and 2 survived the night.. I’d rather keep the. At room temp like you do with he RCS. What do you suggest for OBee’s?
I'm not sure on those because I have only kept neocaridina?
Did you use distilled water or any of the shrimp minerals or just start them in a tank that was well conditioned from previous fish?
I just used my regular tap water (which has a pH of 8.2 and a GH and KH of about 10-12 degrees.
I am cycling my tank with with just a plant set up atm
It's a 25gallon
I may decide not to add anything else to the tank
I am planning on adding blue dream shrimp!
I am so excited, i find the colour so breath taking !
It will only be shrimp for 6-8 months to let the collany build
I ordered 16
Will that be enough to get started ?
Definitely- have fun!
Using ro water with salty mineral for shrimps? or using tap water with dechlorinator for shrimps ? Which would be better?
For neos I just use tap but my parameters are 8.0 pH, 10 degrees GH and KH. If it was higher I might go RO.
How long would you recommend a tank be cycled for shrimp? The current tank that I have that I’m considering keeping shrimp in is a 20 tall, but it’s been established about a week ago so I know that won’t work 😅
I would wait until you have zero ammonia, zero nitrite and some detectable nitrate.
Do you think I could breed ramshorn and pond snails in the same tank with these shrimp.... for food for my 🐡🐡🐡
Absolutely - we often have them populating the tank at the same time.
I got some platy fry in with them, will they be fine for about two months before I can move them to the big tank?
If the shrimp have cover (anything from a pile of rocks to dense plants like java moss) they will be fine, they have a very short reproductive cycle, and even if your platies eat a few, the colony will bounce back with remarkable speed after the predators are removed. Depending on the size of the fry they may not be capable of eating even the smallest baby shrimp, in which case you'll see no effect at all.
Will a 15 gallon tank be sufficient for single species shrimp? The one I have it's an Aqueon 15 gallon "long" it's pretty much a 20 gallon tall but half the height.
I think so!
Nice video! Great project for your children. You did forget to mention one of the best fish to keep with your Shrimps: The Dwarf Otocinclus / Otocinclus affinis Steindachner. Everyone knows them as the Otocinclus fish. They belong to the Loricaridae Family of fish. Genus is Otocinclus Cope. They grow no bigger than 1.5 inches. Very good algae eaters. Yes they have teeth, but behind their suckers. Best also school. They eat algae off of plants and glass, and basically never eat meat, or Shrimps. I’m no ichyologists, but I do read! I enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing!
You are so right! They slipped my mind because I haven't kept them in so long, but they are a great option with shrimp.
need some
Im a newbie fishkeeper with neon tetras and blue shrimps in the same tank. If i drilled some holes into driftwood would that be ok for hiding?
You can certainly do that. The other thing to consider is cholla wood.
I used to buy rcs and they would always die or hide forever. Finally gave them their own tank and 3 became hundreds.
That's really cool!
Will pearlweed and java moss be suitable for them?
I think so!
Hi Jason how many shrimp do you think I could safely add into my tank? I have a 90 gallon that's just finished a fishless cycle. I've had it running for about 2 months with plants and planted substrate, driftwood etc. Lots of algae to eat just worried about any ammonia spikes!
If you are thinking Neocaridina, you could go with a dozen at least in that tank and let them reproduce. : ) If the tank is fully cycled, they really won't have any impact on water quality.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Thank you so much! I was planning to get amano shrimp but would those go together with neocaridina water-wise? I still need to do more research...
how old should the established tank be? If fritz zero is added, do you think they would be okay?
Most likely they will be ok (regarding ammonia and nitrite).
We had amano shrimp and they moulted all the time , with this many shrimp, do you have this issue? How do you remedy it?
Malting is good, it means they are growing and are ready to breed. They eat the malts, but if you don’t like them, they aren’t harmful but you can just remove them. Hope this helps.
I’m thinking of adding some to a 20 long with golden white clouds, striped long fin danios, bumblebee gobies and cherry barbs. Would that his be a safe combination?
There’s a chance shrimp babies might go missing but the adults might be ok.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics you are incredible!! Thank you for replying to a question on a 5 year old video. 👍
How do you vacuum gravel without sucking up the shrimplets? Or do you just don’t? My gravel looks like it needs to be cleaned, but I only have 10 shrimplets in my whole tank and I want to keep them lol.
I usually use the gravel vac to move them out of the way before I start it.
