- Have an old aquarium and want to do something with it? Maybe this is right up your alley! All I did was dismantle the aquarium, cut the panes shorter and put it back together. I already had all of the materials, so there was no upfront cost to built the enclosure. However, if you were to buy everything new it could be done for under $25 if you already have the tools. Otherwise it will be around $35. From there you can go as elaborate as you the paludarium to be.
Something I didn't really explain in the video was the removable overflow tray. I made it in that way so I can service the pump if needed. I'll have to move things around to access it, but it can easily be done without destroying the whole setup. I definitely recommend figuring that portion of your own builds before you get to far along.
Also here's a non-affiliate link to the mesh. I figure this would be something that was difficult to find otherwise: amzn.to/2TRfB84

What do you think of the final product? I really like how this one turned out. Also, what would you stock it with? As I said I already have inhabitants for it, but I'm open to suggestions. I could always put them elsewhere.
First
Are u putting any up for sale?
Looks great!
It’s awesome!
That's looks really natural like you took a peace of nature and put it in the tank
Given the minimalist variety of flora, maybe shrimp. As they wouldn't divert the eye too much away from the hardscape; ghost and black shrimp specifically could really compliment the darker colors too.
This. Was going to suggest something like what the channel 'Foo The Flowerhorn' has in their tank. Maybe a few shrimp of different colors.
Wouldn't shrimp have the ability to climb out of the tank?
@@mscalucas They generally don't go too far up or away from water. At worst they'd get in the overflows.
my channel has this caption but unfortunately no one is watching me :(
Mr Bee I’m sorry but who asked?
You said the tank “turned out very well” was a massive understatement, it’s absolutely gorgeous.
This looks awesome! A small school of micro rasbora would be awesome here! ❤
Hi antscanada I'm a big fan of your Channel I was wondering if you could see more videos about some other animals than the Phoenix Empire I mean they're awesome but I kind of want to see updates on your other animals. Also I think you vampire crab tank might be a little too small I saw that video and I really liked it and I actually did a bunch of research on vampire crabs and it seems the tank is a little too small from what I've heard you can keep 6 in a 10 gallon tank I don't know maybe it's just the video making it look smaller. Again really like your Channel
Eyyyyyyy ants Canada 😜👍
😱
@Otterslayer010 dude your literally like 7 why the hell you lying
Micro tiger rasbora or some boraras 😍
The fact that you repurposed an old Tank AND showed us how to do it makes this video even more amazing. When I watch some of the “Officially Trained Professionals” Videos, I never think, “I can do that”. But when I’m watching your videos, I now know I can. The ideas are flooding into my head and I can’t wait to make something like this, THANK YOU!! Keep up the beautiful work.
Damn that is just stunning 😍 I love the simplicity of all the wood and rock at the bottom against the beautiful foliage at the top, it's like a tiny slice of tropical jungle in your house! You are seriously talented.
That's the look I was going for. A little rectangle cut straight from the bank of a body of water.
@@SerpaDesign you absolutely nailed it. This is truly beautiful.
I lost my dog a few days ago in a horrible way and the only thing I’ve been able to do to get my mind off of it is watch your videos, I love your content so much and starting my own project will be so helpful
I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog. :(
Tanner, if you had a studio and gave lessons my husband would be in so much trouble.....I love your imagination, and that you can bring it to life. I can think of some things I would love to see, with no way to express it. You are blessed...
I love your upcycled projects! It's so nice to see things get repurposed and reused for new life.
That looks amazing, I think it needs some cherry shrimp, chilli rasboras, Malaysian trumpet snails, and dwarf anchor cats.
Corydoras hastatus and or jade snake endlers might look nice in there. Maybe a couple of little stone catfish to clean the bottom.
Any of the dwarf cories or dwarf otocinclus would work maybe ember tetras
Grear recomendation on stone cats most people ignore them
@@zafishguy5166 yeah...I like cories, I mentioned the dwarf cories because they tend to stay at the mid level rather than the bottom like the other cories.
Endlers great idea! Lovely!
Is anyone else here just as mesmerized as me by how absolutely genius Tanner is? Absolutely brilliant.
Serpa squad Saturday, where I binge watch your videos 🖤
I'm a simple girl. I see a SerpaDesign video, I click.
Cheepy McPeepy your a prev
Daniel Butterworth you’re* ;)
Daniel Butterworth perhaps you don't know what that word means
@@cheepymcpeepy Are you suggestin you're a perv beyond the scope he has for pervs? Cause thats RAD. Im down with a toothbrush in the brown!!
Moss is such a beautiful and heavily underrated plant. There's so many things you can do with it. I have no idea why so many people see it as a pest.
Thank you for promoting moss!
I can have the worst worst day of my life and I watch one or two of his videos and everything's cool
Absolutely a piece of natures art in your home. You have a gifted eye and talent. Keep up the excellent work bro, your a innovator in the trade and hobby. 🤙🏼
4 minutes in and I just want to say thank you so much for being thorough and walking us through how easy this can be 🥰💕 much appreciated
I love that the hardscape continues underwater, keen up the good work
I didn't know I needed a paludarium until I found this channel
Wow! Just wow! I love how you have the wood coming from the side not the top. It's a beautiful set up. I look forward to seeing it grow in.
This scape is my favorite you’ve ever built. I love the contrast between the deep red brown color of the wood and the black lava rocks.
I was going to follow the most basic Internet tutorials, but your videos have opened my eyes to so many other possibilities and saved me so much trouble. Thank you for sharing your amazing work!
I love it. That black lava rock really sets the dragon root off.
WOW. When I first started watching the video, I had some reservations how this would turn out… But the end result is absolutely amazing.
Tanner will soon be saying “ Ran out of space guys, I have to expand and get an art studio now. Stay tuned for gallery grand opening.”
I'm sure he could find a fan or two willing to donate a little space to display his art. 😉
It's really been fun watching Tanner over the years go from an invintive diy maker to a professional.
I don't know how you keep coming up with these ideas, but I am blown away each and every week
This is absolutely amazing ! Definately on my ' I have to build this ' list !
Go for it!
Beautiful setup! I'd love to see some crayfish or something river themed in this tank. Keep up the awesome work!
I was thinking Crayfish too.
wow the cleanness and professionalism of this is incredible !
Rabbit foot fern was an excellent choice for this scape. It’s so enjoyable watching you build these miniature worlds. Thank you!
Really love this one, very creative with the moisture wicking mesh! I'll have to try it. The airplants seem out of place to me, but that may just be because I'm not the biggest fan of them. Personally, I think I would try a cluster of small orchids in their place.
I tend to find the airplanes look strange in tropical setups, probably because most of the common tillandsia people get are from fairly arid environments.
This is my favorite one you’ve ever done. It’s breathtaking. Stunning. Wish I could make this exact one myself. Have you ever thought about doing giveaways for some of your creations? Keep up the fantastic work.
I always feel weird commenting on old videos but i really enjoy your videos! I wish I had the time and resources and space to do what you do! Keep up the awesome work my friend!
I only recently found this channel & have been watching many of the older videos. Both for inspiration/education & bc they’re just so relaxing to watch.
As for commenting on older videos…look at it this way. Liking, sharing & commenting on even older videos increases how often they’re suggested to other viewers either as random suggestions or especially to others watching similar videos on other channels. So ultimately by commenting you’re helping support a creator/channel you enjoy. 🤷🏻♀️
When you just genuinely want to just HAVE EVERYTHING MADE in this channel because it’s just a dream~🐉
Hey Tanner, I’ll have to get back to you on what to stock this masterpiece with but for now, as always, amazing work.
We need more men like you in public schools to educate middle and high school students on your many talents, get them from in front of the television and video games and out doors exploring nature and using their hands building things and discovering those hidden talents.
Looking forward to receiving the 🔔 notification for your next video.
Joce PRN ✓ no, c’est probably le only word he can say en français. Ou Google translate, c’est also un possibilité 😂
@@dylan2478 ah ok 😉
@@dylan2478 that's the best french i have ever heard😂
I absolutely love your creations!!
I had a great time on Mothers Day making terrariums with my 16yo son!
I was telling my 21yo daughter about your channel..didn't even know she was already subscribed! Haha!
As the owner of a tiling company, I would like to offer a tip for getting a perfect silicone finish. Before wiping the excess silicone off, use a spray bottle with just a few drops of dish liquid in it, this will stop the silicone from smearing on the glass. Make sure your silicone bead is hard against both pieces of glass with no gaps, and only spray away from your next join (ensuring no overspray on your next joint..if you do get overspray, wipe with metho before continuing) also using a popsicle stick instead of your finger will give a cleaner cut. If you have a play with this technique you will get very clean, barely visible silicone joins 😀
You can also spray your tick with the liquid so that the silicone doesn't stick to it when you take the excess silicone out of the joint. The corners are a little trickier as you don't want to take too much silicone out with your stick. (I hope this makes sense)
Looks awesome, I think keeping the bottom 'simple' was a good way to go. Can't wait to see the residents.
Love it. Also how many bottles of that foam do you go through in a year man?
Maybe 10 or so.
"Or so" 😂
SerpaDesign that’s a lot less than I originally thought. Though if you begin making many of these projects to display then sell. Might double the volume needed. Wondering if since the announcement that was the plan.
What about floating plants ? That’s usually a Serpa-staple :)
Stocking Recommendations: Endlers, guppies, or lampeyes.... although no heater here so maybe white clouds ? Then Amano shrimp or one dwarf crayfish (not sure of temperature needs for that).
You see how little water there is right?
Fish Keeper true, it’s only about 7.5 gallons (12x12x12). Correct me if I am mistaken - wouldn’t you say that all the fish species I mentioned could be kept in a small group in 7.5 gallons? (As Single species - not all together.)
@@peteriverson4682 and now take away the hardscape, substrate and plants, you are left with about 5 gallons, which is too small for guppies, lampeyes, White clouds and amano shrimp, now dwarf crayfish and endlers are two valuable options, 1 dwarf crayfish needs 5 gallons of water and at least 3 different hides,1 crayfish would be an option however not recommended, endlers can be put into a 5 gallon but they need horizontal space which is not something this paludarium provides, the only stocking you could work with in this paludarium is a betta (if there is a heater and the flow isn't too great) or small shirmp
WOW the way you repurposed that old tank is very useful to a future project I've got coming up. Great upcycle!
I'm loving the recycling going on in this vid.
Instead of “damp sphagnum moss”. I heard “DAMN sphagnum moss”. SErpa got gangsta.
African dwarf frogs I believe that’s what they’re called. they’re fully aquatic
They could jump out. I had that problem before
At first I thought you were following a guide, then I realized you ARE the guide! Awesome work!
Beautiful as always. As in all projects, art, decorating, furniture making, terrariums etc, the golden rule is, ‘It’s all in the preparation’. The fun part only starts at the end.
Trying to figure a way to talk you out of this one, it's amazing!
Lol as in you want to buy it?

one of my favorite builds you've done in a while! can't wait to see what you stock it with.
Very beautiful. I could stare at it for hours. Peaceful and relaxing.
Fresh water shrimp, ghost shrimp, cherry, wait! No! Bamboo shrimp, I had one once and it was soooo cool to watch. It's a filter feeder and when it feeds, it fans out one arm of beautiful black fans to catch the stuff in the current, ( like that of a certain waterfal...)while nibbling on what it caught with the previous one. Really a truly beautiful creature and would look so nice in this tank!they will also filter feed off any fish food you might use if you choose to house fish. I love your videos
I don't know how I missed this one .. this is one of the greatest tutorials I've ever seen!❤️❤️
Watching you design paludariums never gets old!
Another awesome setup Tanner 💚 I really like the simplicity of the underwater scape, and the all the greenery at the top of the waterfall.
LOVE this. One of these days I'll get brave enough to try repurposing one or two of my old unused tanks (they leak!) for something like this. Haven't gotten brave enough to work with glass to dismantle those tanks yet.
Absolutely beautiful, cannot wait to see an update.
This set up is definitely one of my favorites!!
All your builds are wonderful, but this is by far my favorite! Truly gorgeous!
WHAT DO I THINK OF THE FINAL PRODUCT , WELL YOU NEVER CEASE TO AMAZE ME ,IT'S AN AMAZING PIECE OF WORKMANSHIP AND TALENT , EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS PIECE IS JUST PERFECT....GREAT VIDEO ..👍👍👍
Amazing project! I really love the style and overall aesthetic of this piece, maybe the wood and waterfall set this one apart from others for me. Looking forward to your next one!
This is absolutely stunning! I recently found your channel and cannot stop watching your videos. I think your work just gets better and better.
It's amazing what you're doing ... you're definitely the best paludarium channel ever seen ! Thank you so for all the details you give making this, and for species of plants you are using.
Thank you very much
Salutation, A fine piece indeed! Moss and Ferns are my all time favorites. I really love the way you formed this tropical like skyscraper! Thanks Tanner. ✌
Really love this one Tanner, I imagine an over floaded rainforest floor when I look at it. Really love your work. ☮
Just discovered your channel!! How have I not come across this?! You’re an extremely talented individual. Very knowledgeable at his craft.
This is one of my top 3 favorites that you've created to this day💚
I love how thorough you are in every single video!!
Another beautiful creation. Love the contrast of textures, the scale, the verticality. You are the king!
Mate you’re bloody brilliant! I’ve watched so many of your videos by now..
And another absolutely amazing project. I love your creations tanner. Your channel has become pretty much my favourite in just two weeks after stumbling over it.
Probably one of my favorite scapes you've done thus far.
Good LORD I wish i could purchase this one. The roots, the lava rock, the beautiful ferns, it all came together and looks incredible
You are so incredibly creative. Makes me want to build a few things of my own. Your vids are also a huge stress reliever. We could use more of that these days.
Wow! I am thoroughly impressed! I was thinking maybe some rummy nose and a beautiful male Betta and maybe even add a female. BTW, love that you truly explain how you made this.
I'd LOVE to see what you ended up stocking this with. I really love how it came out. It gave me a cindery/firey feel, even though it's a water feature? Really freakin cool.
The waterfall tank you made is so beautiful. Your hands that make these wonderful tanks must be magical hands! I saw your video well. Have a nice day.
Finally another amazing project from serpa! I cannot wait to see what tanner does next, this was incredible. I have recently got into building bioactive terrariums myself. And as I have got into them two months in, a reptile and terrarium shop has opened up in my local high street and I have been there twice in two days. It is so interesting and the owners know everything about terrariums! What perfect timing!
It's so beautiful and intricate. Can't wait to see it stocked!
Stumbled upon your channel a few days ago and I've been binge-watching a lot of your videos since, even though I've never done anything related to terrariums and such myself. Keep up the good work!
Wow, Tanner! This is such a work of art. It's also AMAZING to see you sponsored and able to create such high quality content 💚 can't wait to see where 2020 takes your channel.
I made an audible “yes” when I saw this appear on my subscriptions. Awesome work as always
One of my favorites. Beautiful!
Again. Another Breathtaking Paladarium. I love when you create waterfalls and water features in your scapes. I so cant wait to see this when it is fully matured and with lifestock. AMAZING!!!!!
Excellent reuse, re-purpose and recycle of an old aquarium! Love it!
Fabulous inspiring work as always! I love the ferns in the Moss, so cool!
Loved the editing for the end card. Super serene!
I think a beta might look nice in this scape. A pop of color for your eye to follow around those lower detailed areas, and since they like to rest on things. I just picture the little guy resting on the roots you made looking so calm in this environment.
Absoutely stunning! The vertical perspective, the use of dark colored materials and the balance of having a lot of plants on the top and few plants in the bottom gives a really cool dimension to it. It really looks like a place that's going on for a long time.
Another amazing design. You should put small black trim around the edges of the glass. Add some kind of exotic small fish with color. Love your work. I hope to one day make something similar.
Awesome and beautiful design! I really like how you repurpose the fishtank in a creative way.
It's beautiful, and want to add that your videos are very meditative and relaxing to watch. Cheers, and looking forward to your upcoming projects.
Absolutely stunning, Moss and waterfalls, beautiful 😍
Amazing!! Hope to see more vertical builds. You make it look so natural.
Soooo, relaxing! I love binge watching your paledarium/terrarium/etc. videos!
Your creations are so magical!
i think the tillandsia detail is a cute lil highlight in this setup
great work as always!
A very well done project! Looking forward to seeing stocked with living creatures!
This is a beautiful tank. I really like the Dragon wood all over, its such a cool visual dressing. It would be kinda neat to see some Piranhas in this tank.
I actually have an old aquarium and my friend has gotten really into this type of thing as of late. Thanks for the inspiration!
