    What people miss about this program is the operational requirement that it is supposed to fit. It is for rapid mobility for Airborne/ Light Infantry units to move from the DZ/ LZ to the objective in a Air Defense Heavy environment. It is not made for combat patrols or for a large force on force operation. It is a taxi service, so the vehicles need to be cheap, light, and fast.

    • @saltymonke3682

      Exactly, JLTV is good but also heavier for a light Airborne/SOF raid/Air assault operation.

    It's very clear to see the dust being kicked up is entering the cab, I sincerely hope that they put substantial mud guards on the final product, I wouldn't want to be in it over dusty terrain, especially the rear seats area. If its a prototype then I am sure that will be addressed, otherwise there are going to be some very miserable people using colourful language.

    That "truck" is awesome!

  • @chippledon1
    @chippledon1 Před 4 lety +4

    Mostly a "parts bin" vehicle - which is fine. Keeps costs down so you can make available large numbers of them. And it does what it's supposed to do. A very rudimentary, single-purpose mission: to transport an infantry squad. However, once the squad is dismounted, what do you do w/the vehicle?

  • @algnojewski969
    @algnojewski969 Před měsícem

    I’m guessing nobody will want to just hang out at the truck in truly winter conditions since it has no appearance of weather shelter
    Might as well start planning for 8 man squads since you’re never going to just leave a vehicle unattended or even 6 man squads if the truck is also your medium/heavy gun platform. I guess you could get strap hangers for those positions but you still don’t have the seating for your squad at that point

  • @lay1back
    @lay1back Před 4 lety

    This is assuming there is open terrain, or roads. And to carry a battalion, it will require about 120 vehicles, 50 mechanics, parts supply, fuel supply. And will make troops more vulnerable to enemy fire because they are concentrated.

    Seating layout looks a bit crap, doesn't look like it has much stowage for POL, water, ammo, batteries rations, maintenance and recvoery equipment, defense stores, etc etc. Yes the raised. roof section above the rear seats might be used for lighter stuff, e.g. the cam net, but I suspect any heavy stores, POL, water up there would mess with the center of gravity.
    Sure a second class ride is better than a first class march, but as shown it doesn't look like there's been much thought about the requirements for living and operating in the field.
    Basically it looks like it can carry the 9 grunts, their personel equipment and that's it - and they don't event have racks for their personel weapons by the look of it.
    I suspect once it gets to the field it won't have enough growth in it to accomodate real battlefield needs and may end up becomng a 6 man troop carrier to allow for all the stores and equipment actually required in the field. Lucky it is a fairly modular looking build.

    Now the enemy only needs a few claymore mines on the sides of buildings and tree to take out the Soldiers in the vehicles. I can see this being used for fast attack to cover a lot of real estate quickly after insertion, but not for regular patrol work where there is an expectation of military forces coming and going from a FOB.

    • @VandalAudi
      @VandalAudi Před 4 lety +1

      I think they’re aiming for a vehicle to replace the Humvees as Light vehicles to cover a lot of real estate with better fuel milage and compatibility with commercial grade spare parts, probably like the old Jeeps. Patrol duties are now mostly delegated to the MRAPs like the JLTV who got more survivability against IEDs and mines but bulkier.

  • @iguanaamphibioustruck7352

    Hi Shaun, your looking good. If you want to go "off road" then go to a gravel plant and climb the three quarter minus pile, up and down. That is the natural angle of repose. If you cannot do that, then, you cannot stay with the soldiers. You can provide transport to the "end of the road" . A ledge, a swamp with cat tails, a snow bank, fallen timber, tall beach grass, willows, sage brush, mesquite, deep snow, mud or blow sand will reject you.

    Doesn’t matter. Here in the USA we don’t have soldiers to use them. We have Emma with 2 moms who is ready to spread diversity and gender neutral pronouns to her enemies

    I wonder if the speaker would have been as impressed if he’d shown up on a rainy day in February. Imagine sitting in a wet seat in 40 degree weather. Imagine being the guy sitting in the middle back seat. You start taking incoming fire. The two outside guys are killed. How quickly can you get out? This thing looks like pork barrel spending. It’ll probably be great for going to the range on post. Not sure I’d want to be in it outside the wire. What about artillery and/or biological weapons? What about IED’s. Did we learn nothing in Iraq?
