very entertaining Sam.
Yup that line is flat. GWR crews called it 'Brunels billiard table' cos it was so flat and smooth. Also the brake van is n fact the right way round. For preference GWR Toads were run veranda forward to allow the guard to keep an eye on the train, When running vans it didn't matter too much, but when hauling open wagons with loose cargo or flat wagons with secured loads it was important that the guard kept watch on the train incase something went wrong. Many GWR goods yards had a small wagon turntable so Toads could be turned as needed.
Anyway well driven
Jon
Ahh might have known Brunel was behind it, if it's well engineered! ;)
I see - duly noted on the brake, that's my mistake then, I stand corrected!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I bought Train Simulator in 2012 and played it for 3 hours, according to Steam. I didn't realise in 2012 that I was buying access to all future versions of the game, but lo and behold on logging in to Steam today there was Train Simulator 2020 in my library and I've spent a pleasant day on the Somerset Dorset Joint today. Thanks for reintroducing to this game.
Yes absolutely Jonathan - that's the beauty about the Steam version! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
What a fabulous way to drive a steam locomotive!! A lovely little simulation, especially when you’re on the Western Main Line!!
Nice to see you on the game that made me who i am Nice Video Sam Keep Up The Great Work i can't wait to see you hit 50k Subs ;)
McJuggerNuggets made you who you are. Without him, you wouldn't be as big
Thank you Lazer! I do enjoy doing this once in a while! Bless you - though I don't think we'll be there any time soon! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Always make it about yourself.
Hey Oliver
You know instead of being negative you could be nice or are "making it about yourself"
Great to see more Train Simulator Sam! Congratulations on 40,000 Subs!
Thanks very much James, glad you liked that - and thanks for your kind words! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I'M STILL JAMES
You’re on a bloody simulator!! I’m enjoying the journey and watching the train!! MOST EXCITING!!!!!!
Excellent video love playing this when I just want to relax and watch the train fly through he countryside.
Thanks very much Rob - me too, it is very relaxing! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Awesome Sam! Looks just like the good old days when the GWR steam engines ruled the mainline!
Thanks a lot Ryno - haha yeah, absolutely! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Yeah- that's the one problem with the 4200s...
Once they get down to low water levels, they get very thirsty!
haha yeah! I definitely saw a bit of that!! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hello saw someone wearing a bullman t shirt in the national railway museum on Friday! Good to see some more videos on train sim!
haha did you really?! That's crazy - haha! Thanks for that, glad you liked the train sim! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice to see a train sim video again! And congrats on 40K subs Mate!
Thanks a lot mate - the support is much appreciated!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Cool too see some ts 2019, i Love the video and fun too see that you are mixing things up, have a nice ride-Axel
Thanks very much! Glad you liked this for a change - I always enjoy these! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam!, Nice to so you on Train Simulator again. Congrats on 40k Subs! Keep up the good work!
Edit: didn't mean to click the edit button but since I did, I'm putting this here.
Thanks very much - really glad you enjoyed this!! And thanks for the extra edit! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Amazing video love it
Thank you Connor! :D
Good video, One thing. One part of the video you called the Regular the Reverser, but other than that good stuff. With firing On some locomotives it’s good to do little and often others it’s fairly good to do often and a fair bit. If your doing a big mainline engine going at 75MPH boiler management is key. Also I highly recommend the Royal Scots, they just feel so realistic!
haha thanks mate - yeah I know, I did get mixed up a few times - I know what I meant, there was just too much concentration xD
Thanks for the tips, and I'd love to try the Scot! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam train simulator 2018 does seem to be the best train simulator so far.
Thanks Arthur - yeah it certainly is pretty good! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
07:20 - This is actually one of the oldest routes in the game. It was released all the way back in 2007 with Kuju Rail Simulator - the first iteration of what we know today as Train Simulator.
12:11 - Funny you mention that. I was able to play a small part of three different songs on this engine's whistle. I also managed to play a song using the horn on a Class 150.
Tagging on to my previous suggestion (GNR Stirling Single and NER Longboiler), I think an interesting engine to drive would be the LSWR Adams Radial Tank. All three engines are available from Digital Traction.
Ahh really?? I thought it looked pretty good to me - has it been updated at all??
haha!! And thanks for the suggestions - I'd love to try those! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Looks good
Thanks Milo! :D
Nice. Very powerful loco.
Thanks a lot Nick! :D
Interesting video Sam, thanks. Just check that the loco brake is fully off, and notch the reverser back gradually, but not as far as this. 25% is express speed cutoff, so for freight it's 35% tops. Keep the regulator wide open when running on open road.
Nice vid I really enjoy your vids great quality
Thank you Snail, that's very kind of you to say! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Love the video
Thanks Ryan! :D
A good gameplay, Sam. It was interesting seeing you running a loco from Trainz simulator, instead of scale models, but its nice seeing you doing it, especially with a GWR tank engine. If I could suggest you what to try next, propably an LNER or BR era locomotive, wich I think it would worth testing. Anyways, I hope you are having a nice time, and I'll see you soon.
Thanks Valentino, glad you liked this for a change - yes that's a good suggestion, I could try something like that next time! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I’ve ridden behind one of these on the East Lancashire railway
That's awesome!! How was it?? :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam'sTrains pretty good the line was rough but not so much as to be truly unpleasant and the loco was a delightful surprise what with it being so far up north.
Nice video Sam! I love train simulator and GWR! Could you do a drive on the Liverpool and Manchester Via Warrington route that would be awesome. Keep up the good work Sam 😀👍 I’d love to see more train sim videos as I really enjoyed this one.
Ned :)
Thanks very much Ned - that sounds fantastic, I'll look into that route at some point! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
More than awsome!!!!!!!!💪💪💪💪💪
Thank you Olga! :D
The arms on those tanks aerate the effluent as I remember.
Ahh I see - thanks for the info! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
HEY SAM'STRAINS, NICE TRAIN SIMULATOR VIDEO
THANK YOU!! ;D
@@SamsTrains ur welcome and my channel has been changed by somebody
OOOH! Train Simulator! So long! Those are my favourite Ts locos!
haha that's great to hear - really glad you like these, they're great fun to make too!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains if you want some good steam locos head over to steam sounds supreme, that's where these 4200,5205, and 7200 if you got that extra pack. Also the same for the bullied Pacific!
Nice video Sam!
Thank you! :D
Little and often, that was me saying that. Low water level is preferable because it gives you more room for steam and saves on fuel, but you'll be in a pinch if the injectors start cocking up. You realy gotta know what you're doing when you keep the water low, I wouldn't chance it on a real loco myself.
Thanks for that Jonatan - I will get some more practice in soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I'm currently saving up to get TrainSimulator 2019 Congratulations for over 40,000 subscribers Sam! I'm going to give you a shoutout in my next video.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it! That's lovely to hear - thanks for the shoutout in advance! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains you're welcome!
That's cool
Thank you Justin! :D
Well done Sam, some time I am going to get train simulator, it looks fun. It is a shame about the overshoot at the end, otherwise great run. Well done Sam.
Thanks very much George - sounds great, hope you enjoy it! Yep - I can't believe I messed up right at the end ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Nice vid
Thank you! :D
Great video Sam, and a lovely GWR freight locomotive too. Sorry but I wondered if I could ask, what kind of computer do you play this on? I play Train Simulator on my laptop, but it doesn't run quite as well as I'd hope, and I'm looking to invest in a decent desktop to play it properly. Thanks. :)
Hey Greg, thanks very much for the comment! I run this on a PC I built - the game is quite power-hungry unfortunately, though you can get by on some weaker systems by changing the graphics settings!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Thanks a lot Sam, I'll try and have a go at building one myself (if I can figure out how, haha!) Looking forward to seeing your next vid!
Nice video Sam
Thanks again mate! :D
Alot of people ask me "why do you like train games all you do is go in a straight line"
So i just say "why do you play fifa all you do is walk up to a ball and ball fly"
haha! This is very true!! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Ahhhh, you took my suggestion!
What was that mate?? :)
I love train sim!
Me too!! :D
nice I love gwr tanks. But my favourite engine is City of Truro.
Ahh good choice - yes she is lovely! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam did do a review on the class 4200 class from the GWR if not can you please review it
I did the 52xx, which is very similar! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Actually afraid to get one of these for fear I may never get out of my chair again!
haha! That's a very real possibility - it's easy to lose hours to this, haha! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam Sadly I’m currently Sick 🤧 so I watched your videos
Really sorry that you're sick - get better soon! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I'feel so sorry for you I'm sick to🤧🤧🤧🤧🤒🤒🤒🤒🤮🤮🤮🤮
Nice train simulator game! The train simulator game that I play is "Train Sim" which is available on iOS and Android devices and overall it is the best train simulator game to download on a mobile device! :D
It would've been cool to play a Train Simulator game on PC along with engines to drive like steam locomotives or diesel locomotives.
Thanks very much! I've heard great things about the IOS train sims - I'll have to try that one day! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
If it’s in Oxfordshire for the river part, I think it might be the Thames. Overall, this has been a great video and TrainSims videos have always interested me as well as your own videos. I am hoping to get a game of it myself, even though I heard rumours of a PS4 version being out, but I haven’t seen it, yet.
Ahh okay! Yes that would make sense! Glad you like these, and good luck getting the PS4 version - I hope it's good for you! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
In key 8 mod you fly faster by pressing those little arrows and holding shift.
Okay! Thanks for the tip - I can try that! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
Hi Sam, Nice run , bit rough , when do we have tea !? Made a change , All the Best Brian 🤗
haha thanks a lot Brian - there'll be tea on the next excursion!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam
Would you recommend the old hornby railways dean goods o 6 0 tender locomotive
Thanks very much Lewis! I wouldn't really recommend that - they're tender driven, and can be difficult to service! I can recommend the Oxford rail ones though - they're not too expensive, but also a little more fragile!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains thanks Sam that helps out a lot
shift in the spec camera makes you go faster.
Thanks for this! I'll give that a try! :D
Cheers,
Sam :)
i like it
Thank you! :D
Hello Sam! In regards to you wondering if crews were allowed to run low water, it depends on how low you mean. If the crew valued their lives they try to never let it fall below 1/3 or 1/4 at any given time. Especially on grades. Going up hill wasn't much of a problem, as the water in the boiler would slosh back towards the firebox keeping the plates covered, BUT when you crest the grade, the exact opposite happens when you go down hill. Naturally when you're going up the hill, your fire is hotter than hell since the engine is working very hard and using a lot of steam, so the draft is very aggressive and the fireman is quite busy. That being the case, if your water is low when you crest the grade, the fire is still white hot, and the front of the engine is now starting to slope downwards, the water sloshes to the front, uncovers the crown sheet, and then things go horribly wrong in short order most likely ending in a KABOOM. So general practice, is to have carry your water around half before you hit the grade, and make sure your fire is in good shape for climbing before you're on the grade as well. You want the water at about half a glass or ever so slightly above most of the time, but especially when you're climbing, because if it's too high, and you increase the cut off too far or give her a bit too much regulator, the engine will prime and carry over into the cylinders which is also a very bad thing if you can't open the draincocks fast enough (hydraulic lock, cracked cylinder heads and bent piston rods). You want hot, Dry steam. If your steam pressure is in good shape as it should be, and you can leave the fire alone, put the injector on before you reach the top so when the water sloshes forward, you're already correcting and compensating for the change in position so the water should never ever disappear from the glass (That being said, most Steam Engines have a built in margin of safety, the bottom nut of the glass is set 3 or more inches above the top of the crown, so if the water leaves the glass for a few moments, there still should be enough water there to keep things cool and buys you some time to correct your error before things go awry. But it should never get to that point in the first place.). Also, pumping water in at that time will keep the safety valves from blowing off when the driver begins to shut the regulator since he no longer needs the steam and you're mostly coasting. The regulator is always cracked to a certain extent so 1. the cylinders don't lose lubrication, 2. to keep the superheaters cool, and 3. to prevent a vacuum from forming in the cylinders (although that part is not a problem if the engine has a snifter valve or valves). The blower is only supposed to be used when you're at a standstill since you no longer have the exhaust from the cylinders drafting the fire. You never want the firedoor open for very long as the cold air coming in will make the flues and plates contract unevenly, then start to leak over time. For firing, every engine in the game has a "sweet spot", a range where the % of fuel the game shows in the firebox is making the most steam at the ideal cutoff just like in real life, it's just a matter of figuring it out for each one which is easy (in the game that is). As you know Firing in real life efficiently and cleanly with the most steam and the least amount of smoke is an art to be mastered in itself. The comment about being able to drive without touching the regulator is correct when you're up to speed, you control the speed and power with the cutoff. Once you're in your stride the regulator should be full second valve wide open, as you want the steam to do it's work by expanding in the cylinders rather than the piping, so by adjusting the cutoff you're essentially using the valvegear as the regulator as you're adjusting the amount steam the valves will give the cylinders for however long in the stroke. I've got trainsim as well and it is quite enjoyable! Though I do like Trainz slightly more as you have more freedom to do what you like there. I want to try the new VR game "Derail Valley" since they recently came out with a Steam Engine, but I laughed at their instructions for how to run it as it's not quite right. It's close, but not entirely right. Anyway, once again great video Sam! I'd like to see more of these from time to time :) Cheers mate, -Brandon
Hey! Thanks a lot for this - so I think 10% was definitely pushing it a bit then, haha! Thanks again for all the info,
Cheers,
Sam :)
Try the southern pacific cab forward for the next train simulator review
That sounds great - I'll look into that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
3:50 so now we are coming up to 125 mph... you know, the usual speed of the GWR 42xx.
haha!! xD
How do you turn down the game volume when recording with a mic as when I do it the sound of the loco overpowers my voice!
In OBS, you can control the level of each input device! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
plz do more of these
More coming soon!! :D
Also maybe you should get the gwr 2700 class and compare it to the class 4200
Great idea - I'd like that! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The 4200 is a beautiful GWR engine. Prefer the 4-6-0 engines but I like large tank engines. Also you look really different when wearing headphones.
Thanks a lot for the comment - yeah I guess I prefer 4-6-0s too, though this was fun! haha do I?!? :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
You can also get a 72xx.
Oh yeah! I'd love to try that! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
An Engine Driving Disaster
Sam was playing Train Simulator as usual. The engine he was driving was 7800 Torquay Manor. She was hauling 7 Chocolate & Cream Mk 1 Carriages along the Sea Wall at Dawlish. The route was to take her to Didcot via the Oxford route. Sam wasn't exactly rubbish at this thing, but he had a bit to learn.
Halfway along the route, Sam had to stop the engine in order to answer an annoying telephone call. He was speaking for a good half hour, having forgotten to pause the game. Disaster was about to strike. After irritably telling the caller to go away for the twentieth time, Sam slammed down the receiver and hurried back to the game. Torquay Manor was blowing off at the safety valve in an alarming way. Steam was hissing viciously from every pipe visible. Sam tried to help her move and failed miserably.
"Oh no!" he cried. "Why didn't I pause the game? Silly me!" The noise ceased and the boiler exploded! Virtual Sam was hurled out of the cab and he lay dead on the ballast of the opposite track. Real Sam was a bit scared, tears trickling down his cheeks. Bother.
Sam had learned a lesson, yet that annoying telephone caller had caused the disaster on purpose. No-one dared call Sam after that. He didn't want to suffer another boiler explosion. Simple as that.
Ooh nice Kelly - a train simulator story!! :O
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Can you do a bigger mainline loco next, like a bulleid pacific or a4 (or Flying Scotsman???). Great vid Sam, well done
Yeah! That would be awesome - I might look into buying the A4 for this! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
You're not treeeeeeating yourself If you don't go through the Dawlish Sea wall!
haha!! ;D
You can go along the Dawlish Sea wall in TS, on the Riviera Line - Exeter to Paignton route.
Get an Amtrak Acela and the Northeast Corridor and you can train for my old job!
haha okay! I'll see if those are available! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hey Sam,
The new Hornby Duchess of Hamilton has been released (R3677) and it looks GORGEOUS!! Much better than the previous one. It is my request that you review it with the original Gold and Crimson striped LMS coaches. Would be a dream come true...
Thanks,
Anjishnu😃
I saw that! It really does look superb - did you mange to get one?? They are wonderful looking! :D

@@SamsTrains I might get one with the smoke and sound after my exams....😀fingers crossed

Been thinking about getting the 4200/5205 pack, can get 30% off at the moment, what do you think about it Sam? Superb video as always!
@@MDHGames ok, thanks!
Ahh very interesting - I think I'll have to look into that too! :D

Just get them with the 7200 as the twinpack, totally worth it.
Another Great Video Sam
In your next video could you drive a Castle Class or an A4
Thanks Chris :-)
Thanks very much Chris - yes I'd love to try that, I might need to invest in the A4!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Can you drive the BMG 8f or a king class please on the riveria in the fifties if possible
Yeah I believe I did a king class once before actually, on the Riveria line!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam, you may or may not know this, but in the loading screen when you are loading a route. You can see photos players have taken in a competition. I won the competition for this week and my photo will be displayed! It is a GWR King and Castle passing over dawlish bridge! Check it out please.
Wow that's awesome mate -congratulations!! I'll have to keep playing, and see if I can spot it!! :D

Sam here is something I want ask, why do you never blow the whistle before you move off??
Generally, I just forget, lol! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
One day later, I get a message about an update for these locos, lol...
haha! :D
Sam do you think you could drive the Southern Railway N15 in your next TS video?
I'd love that! I can definitely look into buying that! :D

Great vid Sam. Could you please, please, please do the Jinty next time? Cheers.
I'd love that! I'll have to look into it! :D

hay sam where i live we have them but with tenders not side tanks there called consoladshons just saying
That's very cool - I'd love to see some of those! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Do you get your train sim 2019 content from fans, or do you get them yourself from digital traction and steam sounds supreme and victory works, since victory works made the 42xx.
Yeah generally I just buy them - it's just Mark that very kindly surprised me with a few locos!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great video Sam can you do an A4 on the east coast mainline
I'd love to try that - I need to buy an A4 for it first! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
And you should turn the blower on when the regulator is closed.
Duly noted! I'll remember that!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
can you drive the star class next?
If there is one, I'll certainly give it a try! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
The time lapse speed is the speed I aim for. You keep notching back the reverser too far, I find 45-25% reverser, 40-75% regulator works, but remember to open the blower and dampers. M&N control those. I think you should drive a 14xx next, that's were I got my statistics from, and they are ridiculously stable at speed, and decently powerful for their size.
haha me too - I do like a bit of speed! Thanks very much for the tips - I'll do my best to try that next time!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
2-8-0 are called consolidation
They are indeed!! :D
You ever thought about reviewing the model version? You can borrow mine if you want.
Bless you, that's very kind of you! Not to worry though - I might look into getting one at some point! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Sam's train's drive class 4200 pulling 10 coals wagons on GWML train simulator 2019 only speed 40.5 milestones.😂😂😂😂
haha I know - though I think it's quite a slow loco??
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Wonder if anyone has built your layout in TS?
haha! I've had comments saying people have, but I've never seen any! ;D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam are you interested in a old hornby James he is a old variant. But has a strong motor
Hey Jason, thanks a lot for that, but I do already have the Hornby James! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
0:40 did you get a new computer since the last time you played Train Simualtor? You're missing the Riviera in the Fifties route which you drove on nearly every previous Train Simulator video you made!
1:46 I find it odd that the GWR cabs have the driver on the right (like nearly every American locomotive), but didn't the GWR retain left-hand running like other UK Railways? (The reverser handle is American-style, and not the "Normal" screw-type)
You did a pretty nice job accelerating the train and stopping at the first station!
I think I've wiped my PC since then yeah - I used to own train sim on a disk, but I own it through steam now - since you get all the updates free! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
hello sam I like train simulator but I like trains a new era a bit more and are you going to pre-order the Bachmann calidonian 812 in calidonian blue because I love that livery and when is the GNR C1 review coming out and you should get the Bachmann diesel on totally Thomas for 70 pounds soon from david
Thanks a lot David! I've heard good things about a new era - I might have to try that some time!! :D
The 812 does look great - I'm thinking about it! :D

These are great locomotives for a Western engine, but don’t run her if the water is low!! You need to keep reasonably slow or your water will flow away!!
It is actually a 2-8-0T
It is!! :D
So you are wrong
Drive Tangmere on this route
That's a brilliant idea - I'd love that!! :D

There is a Thomas add on for this game it's very poorly detailed but considering they're totally free to download not bad at all :-)
Ahh okay! That doesn't sound too bad - I'll look for that! :D
