I agree that this is possibly the most useful knife I've ever owned for daily real-world use. I don't think you can really compare it to a traditional multi-tool, but I don't need all the bells and whistles on a traditional multi-tool on a daily basis, either. This one checks all the important boxes. Sharp. Easy to "re-sharpen." Onboard storage for a spare blade (with two edges, to boot). Phillips #2 driver. Slotted driver. Ability to use other driver bits. Strong. Secure lock. Good and very durable clip. Comfortable/good ergos. And great pricing. Everyone should own a few of these. 👍
Dude, this was probably the most compelling sales pitch I've ever seen. Under 6 minutes, and yet every second used to maximum effect, conveying all kinds of densely-packed awesome, with zero fluff. Seriously, I'm a blade aficionado and never even contemplated a pocket knife that uses utility blades, but you somehow just convinced me to want one. All I want to do is go & buy this thing, right now. It's 2am though, so probably not gonna happen immediately hahaha.

Love seeing these videos. My dad carried one everyday and I begged to trade something for it. He never wanted to but after he killed himself I took it to carry around with me in me in memory of him. These videos always bring a tear thinking about him

Not me. I've had my Leatherman Wave since 2020 and it has never let me down. In my line of work a serrated blade is exactly what's needed to make certain cuts. No holster or sheath or whatever it's called either. I grabbed the deep carry pocket clip and it fits perfect along side wallet. Yes it does require a yearly sharpening so you got me on that one. The pliers have saved the day many, many times. Last but not least the Wave has a hidden feature in that it has a lanyard built in which isn't even specified by the manufacturer. All my spare keys sit securely outside my pocket freeing up space for whatever else. Fastback is great and very convenient. In fact, all my power tools are Milwaukee and I am completely loyal in that department. But personally, the benefits of the Leatherman are well worth the extra second it takes to get the blade out. To each their own. If you need to cut stuff 5-6 times a day, yes the trusty Leatherman is great(I have several including one that's "Winchester" brand. Did you know that you can buy 5-6 different blade types for these knives? There's cerated(?), straight, hook and a few other "speciality" blades. Right tool for the job kinda deal. If Milwaukee offered this tool with pliers I think then it'd be the be all end all EDC knife!

Agreed.. I use the pliers at least every hour of my work days.. I’m a marine industry worker, the Wave works for me.
totally agree, I had my leatherman for the last ten years as a Christmas gift from my boss, never resharpened blade because still cuts like a razor blade, never leave to work without it, I’m in the maintenance field and use it every day, only downside can’t use it on live electrical circuits so it’s not recommended for inexperience folks, also recommend to lube with food grade silicone once in awhile, it could be a dangerous tool even for the most experienced if grossly misused. All my power tools are milwaukee and working a demo for a pro-press ACR double crimp rated for R-410A nice and easy.

After carrying the Milwaukee fastback, I can see why
I love my leatherman
But for what I do, it's just too heavy, and it has things that I really never find myself using, such as the saw
But ergonomically, the milwakee fastback is perfect, light, and durable, and it has all the essentials that I use and has nothing I don't need
I was going to buy a multi tool knife to replace my stolen Milwaukee utility knife. I will now be buying this one because of this great review! Thank you for making my decision easier
Had this saved up in my watch later excited to see it. Saw you comparing it to the Leatherman and I immediately knew this video was garbage. Here I am at the end and proven right. I've got both and as much as I like the Milwaukee it's literally a paperweight in comparison. For those who don't work in a trade yet let me do a quick comparison here for you

I agree with this . I like the fastback 6+1 too but can't compete with the capability of any leatherman I have fixed so many things with both but more with the leatherman. Fastback can't save the day by taking a whole carburator apart and get it running proper again but my wave did lol
I've been using my fastback II for nearly ten years. Same knife, more than 500 blades and 3 different belt clips(they eventually do break) and still going strong! I'd love to send pictures... Nearly 50% silver at this point but I refuse to use a different EDC utility knife!!! Milwaukee for the WIN!
Yup this is the one I just mentioned before they came out with the polymer grips and spring assistance. Mines about half silver and so heavily ingrained in to muscle memory
I’ve been using this same knife for six months and I completely agree. I carried a leather man for years and 90 percent of the time I just used the knife and screwdriver. By far the most useful single tool I’ve ever owned.
They both have their place , the Leatherman & Milwaukee but the Milwaukee is on me 98% of the time. Like u said it's the quick changing of the blades that makes these type of knifes unique.

The reason why I'm considering something like this that you didn't mention is legality. Because the blade is removable its a lot easier to just toss the blade and keep the rest if you go somewhere a blade is prohibited. Also travel, once you get to your destination you could probably find a place that has these general utility blades and you get to keep your knife.
Good point (no pun intended) just make sure you toss the blade safely so it doesn't harm someone or another animal.
I Horizontal belt carry my Surge. That cleans up a lot of the negatives you have presented. I honestly forget it's there until I need it. I carry my Buck 110 horizontal as well because it also "disappears" on my waist.
But I use my pliers and scissors multiple times daily on my job. I also need more than just a philips and flathead. All that said, for a person who doesn't need what I need, this thing is freakin awesome. I have a Dewalt auto loader for my primary utility knife on the job and I think he's going to take a back up role to this guy based on the one handed lightning fast opening and closing. This would make a great gift for a few family members too.

How do you horizontal carry your surge? I have the Surge with the stock nylon sheath. Do you use an adaptor or something like that?
@@Skater08cooper I have a custom sheath from Etsy. About $50 bucks, heavy duty leather(think baseball glove or horse saddle) that I'll most likely pass down to my grandsons. If you are interested I'll tell you the leathersmiths name. Same guy did all my edc stuff except my Victorinox SwissChamp which I also horizontal carry.

David is awesome, responds quickly and will further customize anything in his catalog for you. Seriously, his stuff feels like a baseball glove. I can carry my Buck and Surge and completely forget I have them. Horizontal is the way to go. Gonna order a belt to match them and his bit kit pouch as well. High quality stuff, I'd easily pay more than he ask.
Im a maintenance tech. The wave has saved me from making extra trips to my truck. Used pliers, saw, screw driver, scissors, file, wire cutter, pretty much everything but the micro screw driver. Really enjoy my wave but looking into cobra and swiss army knife combo. Oh. Btw. That little pocket on your jeans works amazing for storing the wave. Wont bump into your phone. Or just place it on the other pocket
One of the only vids on the new Fastback that actually shows the single blade storage. While mine did not come with an extra blade the packaging showed it could store one. Getting it into place was a little tricky until I saw exactly where, which is where I though it would go, on your vid for confirmation. Might want to show how to seat it, mine went in a certain way. So thank you.
Exactly watching your video has only just made me aware of extra blade storage,blimey ive only had it for 6months😂
Mine is picky about blade brand for the spare, with the cheaper ones I have to force the retention clip up a bit for it to pop in place.
I can't get an extra blade to seat into mine, so it just easily falls out. I've used needle nosed pliers to try and bend the metal, but it doesn't make a difference. What am I doing wrong?
100% agree - also, the wire pocket clip doesn't catch on stuff like a sheet metal clip does.
I can’t be the only one who has like 4 edc’s. I have a leather pouch I put on my belt. I carry this same Milwaukee Fastback along with a pen, O Light Arkfeld flat, and my Leatherman Free P4. All have their uses. Though I do find myself reaching for my fastback the most

I bought one and love it. My wife thinks I have a Milwaukee addiction. I’m a licensed electrician and have a lot of tools. Many are Milwaukee. People who don’t use tools do not understand.
I bought 3, my son uses one too, super handy for outlet covers & outlet screws cause you have both flat and Philips always with you
I have been using the slightly simpler 48-22-1501 major difference is no screwdriver. That would be handy.I’m in Australia and was surprised the knife Nannys let it be sold here. I don’t use the clip because it advertises I’m carrying something eye catching red but have no trouble getting it out of my pocket. I’m constantly using it to open things and cut up cardboard and also to cut things like vinyl plank, and trim art board. Excellent video explaining its use.
I have 2 of the older Fastbacks. I work with them every day for several years. Very good quality. All metal

Don’t know if anyone’s mentioned it, but there is also a bottle opener at the pivot. Also, I use the Dewalt “carbide coated” blades. A real game changer. More expensive, but last 10 times as long.

Seriously. The most useful bladed tool you will ever find. I work maintenance across several properties and this combined with knipex (cuh-ni-pez) xs cobra and a Knipex 7” plier wrench gets a lot of my calls done and if we include my m12 driver which is also pretty compact I can get prob half my calls done with what’s in my pockets and a small drill on my belt. The xs cobras are something serious too. Fit in the coin pocket of your jeans and open enough to take a garden hose off the bib.
I bought two of them on my last US trip. Great also for the skate to cut the grip tape and the Philips insert works just fine for truck bolts.
i do love finding new tools to replace skate tools, this seems like the best and most compact option for sure
Very cool. I've been using the Fastback 48-22-1502 for a couple of years now, it's on my side every day. It's pretty much the exact same thing except it holds 5 extra blades not 1, and it doesn't have that bit holder. I'm definitely going to have to check this one out, I can definitely see the bit holder coming in handy. Thanks for sharing this!
I 100% agree! I've used it as my EDC when on the job for several months now, and use it at least once per day. The one-handed flip-open is precisely what I need and want. For several years I have carried extra bits (T25, Philips, small flat-head) in my pocket attached to a nail-clipper with a small RE magnet, they fit the driver perfectly. Would I love to have a small plier on this too? Sure! But I seldom need one, and I often need and use this blade and driver.

Looks like a great tool. For the few things it does, it does it well.
A couple things about your comparison of it to a multitool, I carry my Leatherman Signal everyday for work, and it’s held up. Sharpening the blade isn’t that big an ordeal, and sharpening a knife is a very useful skill to learn.
The blade is designed to be opened with one hand. In fact, at least one of the Leatherman models is designed for all tools to be opened with one hand. That the blade locks in position is a good thing. I’ve had multitools where that wasn’t the case, and a blade closing up unintentionally is not great thing to happen. On my Signal, all tools lock in place. That means the screwdriver doesn’t suddenly fold when in operation.
The pliers is a huge win in my book, not just for the pliers itself, but also for the wire cutters and wire strippers. It looks the Fastback can strip wire, but probably the best it can cut is household wiring, as long as you have surface to cut it on.
But you know, that’s the great thing about tools, there’s always something that fits exactly with what you need, if you look hard enough. If the Fastback turns up in my area, I’ll give it a whirl.
I work at a garden center and when we sell Christmas trees that’s my favorite knife well year round I like the small one better. One year I put in the pocket of my vest and I loose it my boy I sold the tree calls me and it’s hanging on his tree . I got a year later but I have like 10 now my boss buys them all the time and if I find one laying around it’s mine haha best knifes ever
I got a Milwaukee as well. Still got my Leatherman super tool and still use it. It goes in my truck glove box. Got a wave in my back pack. Good video
How the heck did CZcams know that I just found one of these in my filthy trunk yesterday after work? Anyway. I used it today, changing a 995v cathead on a miner. Never had to go through my backpack looking for my screwdriver kit, cut the dust cover down to size, and installed the case ground. Pretty cool little tool. I had to show it off to someone and they agreed.
4:15 Nothing cuts like a razor & they are easy to sharpen on the job site with sandpaper or brick / concrete. One suggestion - I carry my fastback and multitool in separate open pouches that attach to my belt made out of vinyl - I also remove pocket clips. It is much easier and faster to remove and re-holster and vinyl - especially heavier upholstery grades will outlast leather and you can stitch them at home.
I use one in the bib of my overalls on the farm and working around the house easy to get to with one hand and flip out

I'm glad you like it. I'd rather have a Leatherman, but they really aren't comparable in function. No pliers on the Fastback. The blade retract mechanism on the Fastback seems to be a recipe for disaster if you happen to get a finger between the blade and the case. No doubt, a more than handy utility blade tool. Just not as robust or diverse as a Leatherman. Compared to a Stanley or Kobalt or other basic box cutter, the Milwaukee does stand out.

Great review 👍 just purchased one. I always carry a multitool + a folding knife but this I'm gonna use in place of my folder and see if it works out. It'll save having to use the knife for nasty and rough cutting jobs so that's a plus. The other features are just added bonuses. Thanks for sharing.
I keep 2 in my truck and 1 on me, I also keep a leather man in my backpack, for some odd reason all these tools are always coming in handy for the most random things

2:17 The fit of hex bits is always better than a screwdriver. I bought this tool about 2 months ago and loving it. I had been using the regular fastback for 7 years. You can't beat a razor for clean cuts. This tool shames the Leatherman and many multitools. I also rock a Ozark Trai. 17 in 1 $10 @ walmart.
I love this tool. The only thing I would change would be to change the bits to double-sided ball-detent bits like bits for the Milwaukee 11-in-1 or Klien bits.

I love this for construction work. I use the screwdriver for a prybar or digging tool. I still carry a wave + also mostly for the pliers. I'm a knife guy but I still have yet to steer away from utility blades for work.
I subbed, This came up in my recommended. I'm not a big user of razor knives, but out of all of them this def look like the best bet. There are pros and cons to all things and their specific uses for each individuals job. I prefer a good knife, just in my trade, but I always have a good razor knife in my work van.
Totally agree with all your points. The hex bit driver is my favorite feature - Did you know you can fully deploy it JUST as fast as the knife with one hand, if you press it in just the right spot?

Used to carry the Milwaukee and changed to the Fiskars for the lifetime warranty. Had an issue with blade not being able to be installed. Did the easy online warranty claim and recieved new knife in couple weeks. Pocket/belt clip broke so I requested just the clip only as the knife worked otherwise and they sent a complete new knife. Fiskars
100% agree! I'm a auto glass tech and have mine with me 24 7 and i use it more then alot of my tools.
My most used EDC item is also a small one hand deployable knife. I like to be able to do things like cut up an apple in addition to cutting string and opening boxes - so mine is a small fixed blade I carry in my back pocket.
The Kershaw Fire is basically this same tool, but built around a traditional folding knife rather than a utility knife. I have both and keep the Kershaw in my pocket and the Milwaukee in my tool bag.
Just ordered a couple, 1 for me and 1 for a fathers day gift. Been looking at them for awhile stupid thing is you can only buy them online where Im at.
Easily, I've been carrying one since 2012! The first gen was high grade metal and I still have the original and the newer one
I've been using the Milwaukee multi-tool for over 10 years and it's still holding up. The paint has scuffed off over the years but everything still works great!
Like my fastback II! Most of the paint gone but still is an awesome tool! I've even accidentally taken it on my pocket to weddings! Oops. I won't change it till it falls apart, been tenish years now...
With the leatherman wave I use use the serrated blade when im cutting something that would make me worried about ruining the blade. The plain edge is for more delicate tasks that require and ultra sharp blade.
I carry my wave+ everywhere with the optional pocket clip. Works great! But they are both good edc options.
Have the same one 💪🏼🔥 use it every work day for the past year+.
I love my fastback knife. Used my first one for 6 months before I lost it in a field lol. It was the simpler version without the driver/opener/extra blade slots. I may get this one due to the prying options. Thanks for this well told review, cheers

I work for a moving company. We wrap most of our customers furniture with plastic. I carry a olfer style Milwaukee fastback and it probably saves me a hour carfully cutting plastic off the furniture

I've had a lot Utility knives and i love the Fastbacks. I haven't owned the one with the bit holder, but i own 2 of the compact ones and the one that is metal and has the seatbelt cutter and blade storage and they both have held up great over a period of 3+ years and i use them on a daily basis. I will buy the one with the bit holder at some point, i just haven't felt the need yet but the bit holder would come in handy. I actually like the compact plastic model the best because of it's size and lighter weight. It looks like the bit holder version uses plastic as well and is similar in size to the compact model. I will say i do like the Fiskars flipper utility knife as well because i have big hands and it's grip is very comfortable. However i believe it is definitely heavier and bigger/wider than the fastbacks.

i have all of these , i think the fiskars pro is the best folding utility knife. the milwaukee is nice, but the belt clip hurt your hand after a few button presses! also the milwaukee release button is 10 times harder to press than the fiskars pro! the fiskars pro feel awesome in the hand and is solid ! it has a expensive feel . even tho the milwaukee is well built , it feel cheap!

Absolutely agree on this. I bought one when I temporarily lost my old favorite, one of the original all-metal Fastback knives, which was just a blade. Use it almost everyday at the custom furniture shop I work at, and it's become my favorite EDC for sure. Shit even my boss and coworker borrow it often, and I tell them I'm buying those fuckers their own for Christmas!

I have like 6 of the regular Milwaukee fastback knives 2 of the old school all metal 48-22-1502s and 4 of the shorter plastic frame ones (I prefer the longer handled all metal one). I didn't even know they had ones with the extra tools on them. I'm gonna have to see if they carry them at my local Home Depot and pick one up. I absolutely love the Fastback knives

I love these Milwaukee Utility knives and have been using them for about four years now…. But is is NoT the only button lock utility knife that opens with ease and quickness, there are several other companies that make them, but the Milwaukee is definitely my most favorite

@@james_gatlin as far as button lock utility knives go I agree 100% that Milwaukee sets the bar, but there are EDC Blades “non utility “ that are top of the line for their own class. I have all the guys at work hooked on these Fastbacks, they’re as good as it gets as far as I’m concerned… thank you for sharing this content, it’s very much appreciated
Milwaukee did a good good job on building these razor knives you should review all there other fast back utility knives
Gerber EAB is stainless clad and more compact . It does not have all the features of the Milwaukee. It is thin and you will not notice it clipped to the inside of a front pocket .Very good quality .
I put my Leatherman in the watch pocket, the small one above the regular pocket. It keeps it away from my phone and the Leatherman sticks out partially to give me easy access. It is heavy and getting to the tools is a bit more involved but accessibility is manageable.
I love the Milwaukee fastback utility knives and have all the guys at work hooked on them as well but I also carry a Leatherman in my watch pocket, it’s the Leatherman Free T2, it’s simple with only a handful of features which is great because I only ever use the knife, both screwdrivers, bottle opener and scraper on the multi tools anyway, it’s small and for some reason they don’t come with a clip but have the machined screw holes for one so I ordered one and the T2 with the clip installed is perfect for my daily use and stays secure in my watch pocket every day.

Leatherman has a portable sharpener for their knives
they need to add a window breaker and seatbelt cutter feature to this model to make it even better
Now that is a real handyman.
I have the fatter fastback with the fold out blade storage. That knife treated me better than anything I have owned since I started everyday carrying knives 3 years ago. I just bought this model so I can have extra features and a more compact knife, while staying loyal to the Milwaukee brand. I also do exactly what you do by carrying it inside my right pocket and next to my phone.
Same here! My fastback 2 is over 10 years old, had 3 belt clips and we'll over 500 blades but still the original knife! Best hand tool ever made I'm sure!

It's a nice tool for sure. I've been tempted to get one, but my Skeletool serves the same function. I don't mind sharpening blades if they get dull, it really doesn't take that long.
My problem with Skeletool and other Leathermans is they only take those proprietory flat bits which are not the greatest quality. If it had a 1/4 in driver then you could use it with seriously good quality bits, Wera for example.

Had mine for 2 years used it as a hammer a pry bar Pull wire Staples and many other things just bought a new one because the screwdriver had 3/4 of an inch of slop which can get annoying on longer screws
It’s incredible the beating they can take, mine also started to have slop, I took it apart and put it back together and it’s like new again.
That notch on the blade area is for cutting seatbelts btw.
It's good in it's simplicity. By the way, some Leatherman's have a clip too;-) P.S. I love all things from Milwaukee, they do real stuff!
