  • Lets do us a tool comparison! I just got the New Klein Tools Flickblade utility knife and have been carrying it around for a week. Is it better than the Milwaukee fastback? Is it the new best lightweight multi tool ever? Let's figure it out!
    I bought my Fastback from Home Depot, and the Flickblade from Lowes...so.... I guess you can figure out how to search for these buggers on your own OR click one of these links. i get little cash if you buy from the link:

    Love Klein. Wish they would have put the flat head in there. They are pretty innovative, so I suspect the next version will have both. ....I Hope!

    I have the Milwaukee Fastback 48-22-1903 which holds four extra blades. There's no scredriver or bottle opener, but the handle does make a rope cutter when the blade is closed. The 48-22-1505 (the subject of this video) is on sale right now, online only, at Ace for $14.99. I'm going to order two or three and pick them up at the store tomorrow.
    I also love my Knipex Cobra pliers (full size). I'm going to add the Mini-Cobra to my EDC.

    My Milwaukee has the same colar design to hold the detent bearing, and it popped off. Other's have a 'spring' mechanism on the inside and have reported issue with it when switching the bit. One person suggested using a magetizer to, well, magetize the bit holder, another said to drop a 6mm x 2mm magnet in the bit holder.

    Another important note to make here is that the Milwaukees screwdriver is centered with the handle when opened, which will make screwing/unscrewing a fastner much easier.

      I’ve had both and can promise you when using it as a screwdriver you can tell like at all both of them are more uncomfortable than a traditional screwdriver. And the .1 in off set on the Klein really isn’t noticeable. Overall I like the Klein better because you can take out the bit holder and put it in an impact or drill

    Extra blade storage is the tipper for me. I only ever seem to need a new blade when I'm on top of a ladder, under a house, in an attic, or a long walk away from my van. Always gotta have an extra blade. Everything else (driver bits, bit holder, bottle opener) are just extra fluff on these knives, for my sake. My drills and drivers already have bits and bit holders. I have dozens of things in my van with bottle openers on them (and have never once needed to crack open a beer at work).

      @TheCharleseye Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@HomesteadBandwagon It's rare that I see a glass bottle of Coke. Rarer still that I'd have one on a jobsite. For the occasion I do have one, though, there's already a bottle opener on my belt buckle, one on my keys, a dozen or so on various pocket knives, at least four in a drawer in the kitchen, one mounted on a post on my back porch (next to the can crusher), One in the handle of every paint can opener in my garage, one on my paint scraper multi-tool, one on the brim a Coca-Cola baseball cap I got for Christmas one year...and probably at least ten more I can't think of off the top of my head.
      Of all the tools in my collection, that's the one I'll run out of last.

    I picked up the Klien to check it out. Yes, the plastic handle edges are a bit rough (flashing from molding process) which is a bit disappointing.
    Nothing a litle filing/sanding/touch-up with the Dremmel won't solve, but still. C'mon Klien. The release for retracting the driver isn't any worse (maybe a bit) than the Milwaukee. The single Phillips bit isn't a problem for me as I have a rail of those (flat, sq, torx, etc.) usually at hand.
    The Milwaukee's screw driver is centered nicely whereas the Klien is offset which is disappointing. The Milwaukee has better ergonomics when using the driver as the recess is nice and smooth under the index finger whereas the Klien is back under the middle of the middle or ring finger, and the channel behind the driver tang is wide with sharp(ish) edges. Overall, the Milwaukee Fastbacks have a much more solid feel. The Kien as nice detents at 45 degrees for both the blade and the driver. The Klien's multi 1/4" attachment with magnets is a win compared to the Milwaukee ball detent holder. Finally, he Klien's driver shaft is a bit loosey-goosey and the Milwaukee is solid.

      @HomesteadBandwagon  Před 7 měsíci +6

      I just grabbed some Klein double sided bits. They do, indeed, work in the Milwaukee with the ball retention in the bit holder. Theres a ball in the bit as well, but it doesn't seem to get in the way as long as you don't have both balls overlapping. Overlapping balls is never a good thing

      the old design of the fastback used a spring to hold the bit; but they replaced that sometime last year will a ball bearing after feedback from customers that the spring failed sometimes. The fastback comes with a lifetime warranty, so you should be able to exchange the old faulty one for a new one.

    That ball bearing bit retention system on the Milwaukee is shite. It is well known to be shite. The bearing falls out and disappears then, no more bit retention. The older models used a better retention system. Milwaukee messed up by going to this ball bearing retention collar and need to fix this problem by reverting to the older, reliable collar.
