I've had a couple of Milwaukee knives as "stand ins" for my regular EDC (I actually keep a fixed blade in my car as a backup). They were quite good for the price. One thing I like is that the locking mechanism actually holds the blade CLOSED, which is a nice feature.
That is a nice feature. 💯
I love the serrated blade! It is super sharp and great for those small cuts... I love this knife!
It's a handy knife, for sure!
I have been carrying that knife for several months now and I love it. I wish it did not have the serrated edge. I like a full blade edge. Mine is still not broken in yet. Its still very tight. One day I tried to flik it open and threw it across the kitchen. My hands were oily with cooking oil.
They must take awhile to break in. Mine is still tight to flick open.
@@MarkThomasBuilder Isn't the pivot point some type of screw? If so maybe if it were backed off just a hair the tightness would ease.
Serrated blade is a must for me, very useful when it comes to cut plastic straps !!
Sounds like a good use for the serrated blade.
i like straight edge outside work. but at work its very handy and they only put serrations on a third of the knife so its not in the way and only there when you need it for rope or other tougher material. i think they hit a home run here and even carrying a leatherman via sheath at work. i would still throw this in the pocket for many quick save a trip to the truck situations. ordered one. thank you for the great video
Awesome, I think you'll be happy with this knife, it's very comfortable in the hand. The press and flip just needs some time to break in.
I've carried a TradesPro stainless for about 10 years, the serrated blade has come in handy thousands of times.
Do you use it for certain projects or just a wide variety?
I bought the Milwaukee utility knife and it’s great. I like it a lot.
I always try and keep mine handy.
I like this knife and use it frequently, but I would prefer a version without the serrations.
I agree!
Yup would own this already if it was a straight edge
Straight edge is best no use for a serrated edge at least for me
Assisted opening is the way to go
Could you expound on your reason, u like the serration model.Thank you.
Lanyard hole could be a universal ratchet. I just got the box knife version. I like the fact it stores an extra blade.
Have this one and many other ones from them, waiting for one with a mini flashlight, that would be perfect for me in my work
Hi thanks for the review I've been eyeing this knife for awhile now. Seeing as how you own several of the new fastbacks I have a question for you. Do you think the utility blade holder from the compact would fit on this knife handle? I love the body but I prefer the replaceable blades. Thanks!
I quickly looked at the folding Fastback utility knife and the blade holder part looks wider than what I recall the 5-in-1 knife being, so I don't believe they can easily be switched out.
Love serrated blade combos
Cool, thanks man for stopping by.
Great video, now I want one of these. But I tried to click on your home Depot link and their web site says unavailable?
Thanks, I just checked as well and noticed the same thing. Amazon doesn't have them available either. You may just have to wait a month or so and see if they get restocked.
That is an awsome knife I should buy one for myself.
You should. 😁
@@MarkThomasBuilder Thanks I sure will.
Dang I just bought the new fast back box cutter. Wish I knew about the knife!
What's funny is that I just bought the box cutter. I'm planning on reviewing it soon. I think I like it better actually for edc.
Serrations are a necessity. So many uses for it.
Thanks for voting. I use it for removing stripping wire insulation.
Great looking North Stars cap eh!
Haha, thanks man! 💯👍
Awesome beautiful great we need with no serrations
I agree
Seems perfect for electrical work. As a 5 in 1 I like a serrated blade. Does the driver tips stay in when open and closed? Good review!
The screwdriver tips lock in place very well.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I like a plain eadge blade.
Love those serrated blades
The Worksharp company makes some nice sharpeners for serrated blades.
Love serrated on my knifes.
Good to know, thanks for sharing.
Wow awesome Fine Knife
Thanks!
Great video, anyone who takes the time to cut straight beautiful passes in their lawn deserves a subscribe!
Thanks!😀👍
I've got 2 by Kershaw w/serrated and one w/out. I like the straight blade much better. It's easier to cut string or robe. Kershaw has 4 bits built in the knife, 2 straight and 2 Phillips
I seem to use a #2 phillips most of the time, so this phillips seems to be enough for most projects. I'm going to have to check out the Kersaw versions and maybe do a comparison.
The utlity blade (6+1) is a better option at the moment atleast u can replace the blades. And if you ever need to sharpen serrations use a chainsaw round file works perfect
Thanks for that tip. I never thought about using the round file.
I had bought one of the earlier models and loved the knife- except for the pocket clip. The knife would fall out of my pants when i was at work sometimes and eventually i lost it. How is the clip, the same? i like the extra screwdriver part.
I don't know exactly what the pocket clip upgrade looks like. They used to have a big wire clip, which people complained about. I think it's a modified wire style clip now which looks like a better design.
Perfect knife milwukee should make: Tanto blade, non serated, screwdriver, bottle opener, springloaded and non springloaded versions. the non serated part just for ease of sharpenning
Sounds like a great idea!
I do actually prefer assisted, and i thjnk that would be the only thing i would add
Same here, I'm a fan of assisted too.
I have a multitool that has a full serrated blade. I've had it for 10 years and used the serrated edge once 4 years ago. I'd rather have another feature instead.
Ha, once in 4 years says it all.
W/out the serrations. Thats ok on a wilderness/bowie knive not on a pocket knive. I prefer thr U.S.A built kershaw knives. However, lately I've been buying milwaukees cordless tools and i love them. M12's
I'd rather not have serrations on this too. I'm hoping to get a Surge M12 soon. I think it will be my go-to impact gun.
Another Kershaw Knife fan here.
I like it. If it would come all black with red letters it would be perfect to carry everyday.
I agree. You wouldn't see the tip sticking out in the pocket
Used a bottle opener on a twist top?
Good observation. I didn't have any regular longneck bottles in the house to test it out on.
does anyone know the knifesteel used on the fastback knives? i google it and just comes up with stainless steel but no specific rating
Sorry, I'm not sure. I do know that their Hardline knives are D2 steel, but those are much more expensive.
A partially serrated blade gives me more options, I prefer them.
Thanks for sharing. I'm hearing a mix of preferences.
What kind of stainless is it, D2?
Serrations are good on a blade until they need to be sharpened, therefore I’d still buy one of these and I wouldn’t use the serrated part unless it was an emergency or a least be careful what I cut with them. It’s a good little knife without too many features.
I agree on the serrations. I'm looking at a sharpener that might work well on those. Stay tuned.
Chainsaw round file
Pls make the sharpening video 👍🏽
I've been looking at another sharpening video. Please subscribe and I'll see what I can do.
straight edge
Same here!
Straight edge and get rid of spring clip. Spring clip gets caught on things and bends open. Once bent it will pissy you off from that point on at least once a day. Great knifes. I'm a plumber and beat crap out of them. They sharpen nice and are easy to take care of.
I know what you mean having a clip bend on a tool. It hasn't happened with me on this knife yet. Milwaukee is doing a great job on their kniives. I'd like to see no serrations as well.
The spring clip that holds knife in pocket catches on things while you're working and bends a little. After the wire spring clip bends, it tends to get hooked up on everything a pull out of your pocket. Your jacket will catch it and pull it out of your pocket while you're working. Work in close quarters with it for a while and you'll see. It's a great knife and I will buy another when I lose this one. That said I'm on my 4th Milwaukee knife since they started selling them. All had the same problem.
I myself prefer a completely straight edge.
That's my preference too. I like this one for electrical work though.
Kershaw select fire I've owned carried one for 9 years
Looks like a handy knife to carry.
Downside is no lock on driver. Also less comfortable in the hand.
If you bought a spyderco triangle sharpener you can sharpen in one step.
Thanks for the info. I'll have to check it out.
I don’t like liner locks had one fail. I thought it was a button lock. I always wondered why they do put the serrated towards the top an have a plain edge where I usually make my cuts. I truly think I knife would be more useful that way.
I'd like to try a knife out with that setup. Sounds interesting!
@@MarkThomasBuilder victorinox has some blades like that
Where can I get parts for these knives?? The screws broke right off in the back spacer standoffs and cant be removed. Need new screws and standoffs
You may have to contact Milwaukee for that.
I have contacted them.....NO RESPONSE!!! Keep that in mind when considering a purchase
Huh, I've heard good things about them handling their warranty claims.
So technically you can call it 6 or 7 in one or more right? Because you can put different tips, hex, Allen keys and more.
I guess so if you really want to get technical, lol.
What is different between silver and black metal knife they have sell on Fastback???
I believe the silver blades are stainless steel and the black blades are their Hardline version, which is more expensive and a tool grade steel, like D2 steel.
@@MarkThomasBuilder oh that is true…. Which you think the best durable like keep sharp at last till dull?
I looked for this item in Canada, can’t find it. Where can I order it?
Can you order through Home Depot?
It not allowed in Canada because you can open it with one hand.
Welcome to our commie nanny state.
How to sharpen a serated blade:
Use a not very expensive diamond stone and sharpen it the same way you'd sharpen a non-serated blade, that gapped up BS will eventually smooth out.
Interesting, never though of that.
Or you could stop dragging your knuckles and get a pocket sharpener with a rattail diamond file LINTLICKER.
Serrations Are Great For Multi Material and WarriorCardboard ! Definitely Prefer! 🇺🇸_ Btw, Flat head' screws were sent from hell' and should be outlawed _😶just sayin_
Haha, I've never been a fan of flat head screws.
As an electrician, flat head beat philips head.
The blade have hole, just put in there cable tie.. easy to opening 👍
Thanks for sharing.👍
@@MarkThomasBuilder you're welcome sir.. happy to help..
Don’t like serrated edge. Never use it.
It would be nice to have the option to omit the serrated part.
I definitely would like to see milwaukee sell this knife with a sharpening stone sheath
Sounds like a nice accessory. I have a small EDC sharpener by Worksharp that's handy for something like this.
Smooth blades only for me.
Same here.
One feature I could not figure out is a hole where the tip of the blade is visible when the knife is folded and a silhouette of a man's head looking at this viewing hole.
I believe that's a screw hole, in case you want to reverse the direction of the pocket clip.
Straight edge
Same here.
I bought the 6 in 1 model. Would consider the 5 in 1 model if Milwaukee would make one without the serrations otherwise I'll stick with my 6 in 1. The utility blade can be easily removed, rotated for a fresh sharp blade And there is room in the handle to carry a spare blade, no need to re-sharpen ever in the middle of a job.
I haven't tried that one yet. Sounds like a handy tool.
No serration because it makes it more difficult to sharpen. Plus a rounded Edge instead of the Tanto Style. That also makes more inconvenient sharpening angles. Keep it simple less complicated!
I agree, simple is the best design.
Nice looking knife, but I would prefer it without the serrations…
Same here
No word of a lie ... I thought you were about to pour a beer over ice LOL
Haha, I like ice cold beer, but not like that.
i had my face set to cringe
Does it have a magnet for the bits
I'm pretty sure it has a magnet, but if you have the phillips bit facing in, there isn't much surface tension for the magnet, giving only minimal holding power.
@@MarkThomasBuilder I meant to say does yours have a magnet? I have one but I realize their is no magnet on mine. Was wondering if my magnet fell out or if they don’t come with one
you forgot the 5 in 1 has a 1/4 nut driver
Yes, that's a great feature. Thanks!
Personally I don't care for the serrated part. I would like the plane blade so I can get it sharpened at my favourite sharpener.
I agree, makes sense.
Where is this knife made ?
I believe it's made in China, like many of the Milwaukee tools.
My homedepot still doesn't carry this knife : (
The two stores in my area don't either. It has to be ordered, which normally only takes a few days.
Go to lowes.
@@Mr.Moose5000 Lowe’s doesn’t carry Milwaukee products
I couldnt put the clip on the other side on mine
I tried and switched it to the other end, so it's now a tip up carry. The phillips screw was hard to loosen.
Izze there fellow. Mandarin is good. IYKWIM
всем привет
хороший нож
I lost the screwdriver bit does any one know where I can get a replacement
I just checked the Milwaukee website and didn't see a part number.
It's Milwaukee part number 50-32-0200. Available on Ebay and from tool stores.
Or use a piece from any driver bit set?
Serrations- yes for tool, no for EDC
I can see that, especially when doing some electrical work and preparing the wire.
straight
Same here.
It needs to be easier to flip the knife open using the button. That was the problem with the first model. If you have to open it manually why even have the button?
It would be nice to have it available as a spring assisted model.
@@MarkThomasBuilder yes👍!
They have to be careful, or it will consider a switchblade. Which is illegal.
The button lock locks it closed, the liner locks it open.
Can you teach us how to sharpen this knife?
I'm going to be featuring the new Worksharp MK.2 sharpener very soon, which will be available to order in April.. How about I demonstrate this knife on that?
@@MarkThomasBuilder perfect, thanks! I am curious how to sharper the perforated edges
They don’t sell this knife anymore?
I believe they still do. I just picked up the 6 in 1 utility knife version which works well.
@@MarkThomasBuilder can u please tell me what site? I’ve been looking and unfortunately on Lowe’s they have it out of stock
@@juancamarena2088 This Milwaukee knife is available at Home Depot and I believe I provided a link in my description. Otherwise, head over to the Milwaukee Tool site to see where else.
I don't buy serated blades. Sharpening is a problem. Manual open for me.
I'm not into serrated blades either. If I went to sharpen one, I hear the ceramic rod sharpeners work well.
with out straight blade
👍
The design is a copy of the Kershaw SelectFire... I have that Kershaw
I agree, it’s my EDC. I like so much I bought several of them in semi serrated and standard blade.
I notice the Kershaw has thumbstuds. I wonder if that would improve this Milwaukee knife?
Without the serrations!!
Same here.
All my knifes have serrated blades
Interesting, I like having a couple around for cutting rope and similar items.
So it's a three feature knife which is hard to open and with a lousy bottle opener.
If you like serrations, the blade is nice. I've found the screwdriver part to be handy and folds into the handle well. I'm going to be testing the utility knife version of this. I've received some comments saying that I should check it out. Hopefully the bottle opener is improved.
you should’ve had opened a beer with that thing. That’s a sin
Haha, I hear ya👊
Yes flippers, yes flippers flipper flipper king of the ocean king of the sea it wouldn't add any more weight try it and see
Flippers are my favorite as well.
The release button is on the wrong side
🤔 Thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to look at it.
Where is the auto window breaker feature. ? That is a must have for emergency
responders.
JoeB
I thought about that too. I heard they shatter a window very easy.
Copy from Kershaw. Kershaw make one with more bit storage few years before
I've heard a few mention that now. I'm reviewing the 6 in 1 utility blade next.
No serrations.
let me introduce you to Leatherman....or Gerber.....or SOG......
I had a Sog Vulcan for awhile, nice knife.
no serrations
I agree!
No serrations, no serrations
👍
Looks ok but not wow kinda deal
I would be more wowed if it didn't have serrations.
Without
👍
No serrations
Same here.
So it's a 3 in 1.. to count each driver bit side as a whole new feature is ridiculous.
Yeah, I remember trying to figure that out when I first got the knife.
I cannot sharpen the serrated blade; it is O.K when it is sharp; otherwise it is a nice knife; I say NOPE to serrations
Serrated blades aren't my favorite, but I've heard that ceramic rod sharpeners work well on them.
Hell no serrations straight blade all the way
Sounds like they need to make a straight blade version.
I prefer no serrations.
So far I'd say 85% agree with you.
Serrated is great for the lazy who don't maintain there knife. So being Milwaukee is a tool bucket knife might as well keep the serrated.
Interesting insight, I never though of it that way.
I'd rather have no serratioins.
I agree.
Serrations are great till dull
That's true.
Do away with the serrations.
That's what I prefer too.
Or at least offer a smooth blade option. Never have understood why knife makers don't simply offer both blade options in popular knives. This old timer prefers options.
Just get the kershaw select fire. And stop buying these tool brand knives unless its for razorblade knives.
I just looked at it.... interesting design. Thanks for sharing.
