    Small normally irrelevant point about ohms test and continuity modes: Know what your meter uses as a test voltage (and if applicable frequency), its rare BUT POSSIBLE something downstream, like ICs, may be sensitive to those voltages. Now, meters usually use pretty low voltage and low current test modes for those readings so like I said, its mostly a non-issue. But if you know a part in the thing you are testing is particularly tetchy to certain voltages (its usually some exotic low energy detection IC, youd most likely know if you're messing with something like that and want it to still work vs just ripping parts out of it) be aware of what the meter is doing to the circuit. Also for continuity: It looks like the Fluke doesnt, but that AstroAI meter should also show you the resistance of the continuity path (my 5000 series model beeps when resistance is below 300ohms IIRC). So, pay attention to your meters reading too. A wire or connection could tone out okay but a wire shouldnt show high resistance, if the wire you're testing beeps but just barely it could still have a fault or bad solder joint or whatever. Likewise, if it shows some resistance but doesnt beep that can also help you in your troubleshooting journey.

    I agree, the speed square is a useful tool and I use it myself alot, on the job. But when it comes to laying out rafters and stair stringers and braces; I prefer the Framing Square. Because, it's very design is for roof framing. And stair building. Gives you the plumb cut and level cut as well as the length of material; all at the same time. 👍

  • @jessehaag6448
    @jessehaag6448 Před 3 dny

    If you ever need to do a quick level cut for lay-on rafters. Set the square against the board, make a small mark at the pitch and pivot to that mark. Do it again using the line as the new reference for the ever helpful double level cut.

  • @DrivelineMaster

    Pretty good but OL does not stand for Open Loop. It is ether Over Load or Over Limit. Meaning that what every is being measured it is over the limit capabilities of the meter or meter settings. If you measure 12V DC on a 4V DC scale the circuit is not open and yet the meter will read OL. That is because you are trying to measure a value that is over the range selection capabilities hence OL = Over Limit.

  • @fauxcatpaw
    @fauxcatpaw Před 3 dny

    O.L. according to manufacturers manuals means "Over Limit". You can read OL in voltage measurement mode if it is out of range; still voltage there, not open loop.

    video is good but I don't agree. I had several of those barrel crimpers for years. finally got tired of the wires pulling out, change to the indent style for both insulated and non insulated. the printing on the tool is cute and helps sell to beginners. automatic wire stripers are the only way to go to prevent cut wire strands. twist stranded wire before crimping. always check your work by pulling on the wire. Good crimping tool will run about $10 but should not be used for stripping. they are only good to 10 gage stranded. i always set the split at about 2 o"clock then crimp both directions. If the end of your connectors are cutting your wires then you have some bad connectors.

    Fluke multimeters (and, by extension, most other brands as well) take less than 25 Ohms to mean "continuity" and 150 Ohms or more to mean "resistance". So keep in mind that when something doesn't read as "continuity", it still could be fairly low in resistance. I learned this lesson by putting 48V accros a 270 Ohm / 0.25W resistor. 😅
