    Great video! I have another solution to mounting. Just get Black Gorilla tape. It looks like it belongs on dark surfaces. It is waterproof and way durable. My bike has lots of tape/decals to protect electronics so it looks like it belongs. I ran one over a year on the bottom bracket of my Specialized Levo. Under the seat would make it functionally invisible, and a great idea!

    Great video, thanks for showing where the tabs are! One thing to note: if you're in an area where seats get stolen, or if you have a particularly nice saddle, you might want to choose a different location. Lezyne makes a bottle cage with a super inconspicuous space for an airtag, there is also a company which makes one to fit inside your wheel if you're running tubeless. Might be giving too much cred to the intelligence of thieves, but something to think about. I think probably using one of those headset caps is the best solution, doesn't look at all out of place and not a component that a thief is likely to change or remove.

      it's not very common to see people with a fat tire E Bike that weighs over say 50 lbs, with tubeless tyres, in fact there are not any tires
      that are tubeless with the exception of maybe 1 brand that offers a tubeless tire for heavier traditonal Ebikes that have 20X4 or 24X4 or 26X4 tires,
      (at least that's what I've discovered so far) So out of curiosity, what is the exact size of the tires that your referring to you put your airtag in?
      and what is the approximate weight of the Ebike, (maybe I'm missing out ?)

  • @lilliputlittle
    @lilliputlittle Před 16 hodinami

    Thanks for the tutorial! The operation appears to be a success. I've asked my husband to take my now mute airtag to work with him tomorrow so I can double check that it is truly tracking after getting in its innards.
    I don't have access to a 3D printer so I found a water bottle carrier that has a discreet space that I can place it and have it still sitting flush against the frame (there are some that fit under it but they look like they be too easily spotted by someone who knows what to look for.) My new e-bike is ordered and the bike shop is waiting for it so they can assemble it. I'll take the bottle holder over to their shop and they can install it when they're getting my bike ready. The only thing that concerns me is that the bottle holder comes with anti-theft screws for installation and that might offer a hint to have a closer look.

    You really need to make it harder to remove the tag . E.g. use security bolts or put some glue on them, else this is too easy for the thief. Also, in this location they could easily break them away, I'd make a holder that can go somewhere it's hard to apply force. Ah yes, and get rid of the quick release levers if you want to keep your wheels and saddle.

  • @lv2keepfit493

    They need to design something smaller for bicycles. I suppose if your seat isn't too expensive put a slit under the saddle place the AirTag inside and touch it up with some black silicone. Do this with the seat off and directly under the clamp area (safer and harder to spot). As long as it is a generic cushion seat it'll work but if it's a high end leather or super thin racing saddle you'd be outta luck. Normally you never leave your expensive bikes alone, at least I don't .

      The bttom of the suspension seat post I thought was a really great idea as well, but while some people say on there Ebike it works without signal interference, the CZcamsr uploader said that would not work, so at this very moment, I happen to be noticing a carbon fiber frame Ebike, I'll provide the link, (just thinking out loud for some who think this type of lighter frame might not block the bluetooth signal due to it's thinner material? ) no idea if that makes any sense, because while the frames are lighter, maybe that offers no advantage when it comes to signal blocking, anyway, very unqiue bike in the under 1,000 range because of the 20AMP battery, czcams.com/video/r8JCXfpje-s/video.html

      cool, here is another dumb idea, I just thought about, (under one of the front or backtire fenders?) if the back of the airtag can't have crazy glue or superglue applied directly to it, maybe it could go inside of some type of other tiny plastic or metal container that could have glue applied to its surface, (you know like those cheap magnetic key containers, people slide under the car (especiall if you upgrade to metal fenders) whathever the best approach would be the important thing to worry about is how well it's hidden probably at the middle of the fender in something black so it's maybe camouglaged by the all black fender, But if metal fenders interfere with any tracking signal than switch it to a plastic fender. For maximum adhesiion I would apply several layers of glue on a table, or if your really handy, try and solder or hotglue it to the plastic fender. Obviously you'de want to test the adhesion and be prepared to lose the airtag in the street or offroad, as your going through the ''testing stage'' of this idea. I've heard of people even installing two or three of them on the same bike.

    I agree with others; a little overboard. There are only so many locations an airtag can be hidden on a bicycle. Disabling the chime won't get you much more time. Once I knew there was an airtag it would probably take me only a few minutes to find it. Overkill might be a better option. Locating and removing five airtags might take the better part of half an hour.

    There two types of bike thiefs.
    1) The full professionals who steal in large quantities and have some sort of business model behind it all. There is little to no chance of fighting them of, but they are also the much rarer type.
    2) The more common thief is looking for a quick buck, wants to sell parts, or ride the bike themselves. They are much more likely to be deterred by good theft protection, registered frames and gps tracking.

    You’re only real option is to react quickly if your bike is stolen. If you wait until the thief’s iPhone notifies them an AirTag is moving with them, you will be too late. An AirTag with or without a chime is not that hard to find on a bike.
