- Join me as I review and compare two cold weather MREs. The one from Norway includes Chicken Masala while the MRE from the US has Mexican Chicken. Great sides to compare as well. Join me to see who wins!

Shout out to Eric for sending absolutely amazing MREs to keep us all entertained and me ancient fed
Second that
He came in big time, for sure. TFW!
Okay, I'm going directly to where I see the soldier and y'all should know it too.
Salt promotes high blood pressure and drains bone density.
I'm 40, I can't afford osteoporosis I have a really big mouth.
Some salt is okay, but I don't salt fried eggs, I don't salt a ham sandwich, i don't use salt with every meal.*
@AminJones Maybe you’re just getting old, brother. I’d rather enjoy my life, even if it means I die sooner. I’m here for a good time, not a long time 😉 different life philosophies. Respect to you.
Fun fact about the Norwegian MRE: Its made as enviornmentaly friendly and healthy (with as few preservatives as possible if not none). It has a rice dish instead of a more traditional Norwegian dish because rice fills you up quickly.
It did fill me up, for sure. TFW!
Plus rice is easy/cheap carbs. Carbs = energy!
Don’t you think a focus on “environmentally friendly” is a detriment to military readiness?
@@Sniperboy5551 Well not in this case. The Norwegian MRE rations are made in a way that doesn’t impact the soliders negatively. It might cost a bit more than traditional packaging but, overall its for the best. I hope this answered your question.
I dig the vibe hearing the birds and you two are a great combo, it's like having company for us who live alone.
Thanks 👵🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🇺🇸
Our pleasure! I'm happy to be company for anyone out there who desires it. We enjoy sharing the MREs and putting the outdoor videos together, for sure. TFW!
Nice, thank you
I like those Norwegian MREs. I did one review video just a few weeks ago and it featured Chili Con Carne as the main course. It was very good too.
I'll have to check you out.
Norwegian MREs are really good. I had a fish one a year ago or so. Man, it was good. TFW!
Man, I love these videos, especially with the nature sounds
Weren't the birds just great that day? I didn't realize how much birdsong there was while we were filming (except for the geese coming in for the landing) until I went to edit. It is beautiful in the Appalachians, for sure. TFW!
I’m a simple man get a notification from me ancient and I click
I like the simple kind of life. It never did me no harm........TFW!
Love your videos, Me Ancient (and your son’s videos too)! I know your wife prefers to be off camera but if she had a channel where she cooked her recipes…I’d subscribe in a heartbeat too!
Same! Love them all 🫶🏽

See above and TFW!
seen every review this is for sure one of your best!
Wow, thanks! I'm happy you enjoyed it that much. the next one will be quite fun, I believe. We are hoping to film it this week. I'll try and edit it quickly to get it out there before the end of the month. It's an International MRE sent to me by Vlad. I think everyone will like it. Stay tuned.
Been waiting for another one. Really enjoy these and you’re very entertaining to watch especially if the mre has M&M’s for Ace to swipe. 😂
More to come! TFW, as always.
Another great comparison and video. Love the Canadian geese in the back ground , just watch where you step if walking around where they’ve been. Keep em coming. Made my afternoon. Mike
You know about careful stepping, I see. TFW, Mike!
Always great to destress after work and watch another great MRE video, keep it up!
We'll try. The next one should be epic! TFW and stay tuned!
Thanks for your service and keep up the videos I like watching them
Austin, you are welcome and will do. TFW
Been enjoying your videos for several months now. Thumbs-up on giving thanks before meals. I'm army veteran, combat engineer, 84-95. Desert storm.
Terry, thank you for tuning in. Stay tuned for more......TFW!
3 "dL" is 3 deciliters, or 3/10ths of a liter, or 300mL. The word comes from "deci" which means 1/10th.
EDIT: OK, to clear up some confusion, 3 dL is 3 deciliters, or 3/10ths of a liter, or 300 mL. One deciliter is 100 mL. Seems people confused my original post.
like a decimeter? 3/10 of a meter?😂 Metric sucks bass.😂😂😂😂
@@michael-dm2bvDecimeter is 1/10th of a meter. 3 deciliter is 3 times 1/10th of a liter (as the original comment stated), therefore it is 3/10th of a liter.
@@youmayu Yes I know. You misunderstood my OP.
@@michael-dm2bv Uhhh I never said meter. However, metric is much better than imperial (US) units IMHO.
Makes sense. Me and my Imperial Measurement ways........TFW!
I have never had a freeze dried meal, but I am headed to Cabela's today to try one out. Great video. Got me excited to try one. Really cool listening to the birds in the background. Looking forward to the next video!
Weren't those birds something! We have mocking birds all over and the cardinals were in on that video as well as the Canadian Geese, obviously. TFW and I hope you enjoy your Cabela's MRE or freeze dried foods.
i love your videos so much! i was so happy when you made your own channel after seeing you on aces videos! god bless
Those are some kind words, my friend. Thank you for that and TFW!
Hello I came upon your channel by accident and I am here to say I love your videos, and you remind me of my uncle James he was in nam and was a usmc 😍. I lost him few years ago and he was more like a brother to me and I took his death hard. Thank you for your service and I pray you and your family a safe and Blessed Lives. Keep up great work
Alyssa, thank you for your kind words. I am happy that the videos bring back good memories of your Uncle James. We appreciate your prayers and TFW!
Awesome video, really good comparison.
Matt, thank you for those kind words and TFW!
I have no idea why this is so entertaining to me, but it is. Love the videos, went back and binged them all. Your son's channel is fantastic too

I like the Norwegian one better😊.....nice woodland bdu too
Eltenda, Norway's was definitely better on this round. TFW and the nice comment about the bdu.
Enjoyed the comparison as usual you've done an awesome job now I have to try and get a Norwegian ration both have a lot of food
Decarlos, you have to try one. I think you'll enjoy it. I have tried one other Norwegian MRE on my channel. It was good as well. TFW, as always!

Another Me Ancient video! Woohoo! God bless brother!
Alan, God bless you as well, my friend. TFW, as always.
Nice memories as a child. Wonder how many of us had the canteens and web belts as a child. My Dad passed on his web belt from WWII to me and I still have it. We did the same thing, into the woods, exploring, cooking canned goods. What a blast. Looks like Norway has some good chow. Great comparison, and thanks for your stories as a child.👍🏻
Mike, Norway definitely has good chow. TFW and here's to the happy memories of childhood!! TFW
Another amazing mre comparison, thanks Me Ancient 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it. Wait till you see the next one, Srijan. It might involve some equestrian in a can. Stay tuned and TFW!
The Norwegian MRE looked fantastic. Thanks for the video, brother.
It was, Robert. TFW! Wait till you see the next one!
Back in the 60's there was a product, the name was something like Fizzy Pop. They were large tables that you dropped into a glass of water that then would start bubbling and turned your glass of water into a flavored drink. They came in different flavors and no need to stir. This would be a good substitute for the powdered drink packs in the MRE's.
Also thank you for your service
My pleasure.
So many different companies making these "Wow"!

Have a Beautiful and Delicious Day 😋
Thank you! You too! TFW, as always!

John, sorry not sorry. TFW!
I really enjoy your videos. They have a calming demeanor. I’m hoping someone gives you a Mexican MRE I think you are gonna find it the best😂
Tom, Do you know where I could get my hands on an MRE from Mexico? I don't believe I've ever heard of one. TFW
@@MeAncientto be honest I don't. I do have family un mexico but none are in the military. If I happen to see them I will ask although I heard it's not easy getting one of those. But if I get one I will definitely send it your way.
Makes me proud to be Norwegian. But as a fun fact: We can get most of these MRE components in a civilian packaging at sports stores. Especially the bits from REAL like the Chicken Tikka Masala
Over in Bridgeport California last year for extreme cold whether mountain training we had those mountain house mres. My personal favorites are the beef stroganoff and the seafood chowder and i hate seafood but in the negative temps a hot chowder was so so nice. If i go back to Bridgeport or Norway i will snag you a stroggy or chowder to try, those 2 are god tier mres
I have done a Chowder review. I agree. It was very good. I believe that was my first cold weather MRE I ever ate and I really enjoyed it. The key is to let all the water get into the seafood meat. Other wise there is that slight crunch, and seafood aught not crunch. TFW, MrJ!
Thank you for using the correct spoon for each drink
My pleasure 😊
I love that you said a quick prayer.
Always, Peter. TFW
Loved this one. The wooden spoons are getting to be a little more common, there are restrictions of the use of plastics all over Europe, even plastic bags are getting "booted out", so its natural MREs would also contain less plastic items. And I agree with you, when camping especially, freeze dry food is much better for a quick meal, add hot water and its done. Great video.
That resealable pouch in the Norwegian MRE was clutch. They thought that one out well. TFW, as always, Joao!
Je regarde vos vidéos avec toujours autant de plaisir…le woodland M81 vas très bien à un ancien Marines devant une haie…
Frederic, merci pour ces aimables paroles. TFW !
Love watching these videos man! You might try using the right amount of water one time and see how the US MRE dissolves.
I'll try and remember to do that next time, Charles. I did only short it by 2 ounces. TFW!
Number one today chief!!
Ryan
Ryan, you are indeed number one! Congratulations & TFW!
I was also on the Iwo LPH 2 during the Gulf War, It was a rust bucket! I Moved to the Nassau LHA-4 and it was like moving to Beverly Hills for an Embarked Marine!
I'll bet it was in pretty rough shape by then. That would have been at least 7 years after I was on board. They scrapped her shortly after that. TFW and Semper Fi!

I'd love to try some MRES, ive had a couple and i really enjoyed them.. Very interested to try thr freeze dried ones.. ❤
You should! Just do a search for MREs for sale. There are lots out there. TFW, Sara!
Hello sir, Semper Fi, I also served on the USS Iwo Jima. I was on the last deployment the USS Iwo Jima made from May 1992 - November 1992 we spent that trip off the coast of Yugoslavia. LPH-2 the L- Landing P- Platform H - Helocopter is what LPH stands for. As a Marine in those days we Deployed a lot the Marine Corps was 217,000 Marines strong they got down to 172,000 after I got out.
Mark, we were part of an elite corps, for sure. TFW, Semper Fi, and stay tuned.
Norway looked way better, gonna have to try one now lol great content as always, can’t wait to see what ya got next!!!

Oddley enough the only place ive ever seen morel mushrooms is around construction debris piles, got some in my front yard right next to a stack of old lumber.Any how thanks for the video and keep them coming please.
John, I'd be tempted to throw lumber all out in my yard......TFW and that is the plan, to keep 'em coming'.
Yes it's a deciliter, it is .1 liters.
Makes sense why it is about 10 ounces then. TFW
Nice!
TFW!
Looks good today for the MREs.
Indeed! That Norwegian was really good!
thank you for addressing the ridiculous Salt-phobia running amok.
great video, ty
You are welcome. I can't believe how much people miss out on when they deny themselves salt. Really sad for them. TFW!
I’m noticing that the majority of the powdered drinks in the “foreign” MREs, seem to mix up so much better. Thanks again, for sharing! I am still very interested in sending you some game meat that I have harvested in Alaska. Stay safe and God Bless.
Yes they do! That would be amazing, but impractical. I guess unless it was some kind of jerky......TFW, as always. And again, thank you so much for sending the cases of MREs. They have provided good times for me and been fun for many viewers to watch out there. You are a legend in my little fan base.

Melony, you know it! I really like corn bread.
What bird's were in the background when you were rincing off the spoon ?
We had cardinals, Canadian Geese, and mocking birds the whole time we were recording. TFW and thanks for noticing, Eldon.
3 decalitres is 30 itres or 7.92516157 US gallons, careful with that :D :D . Thanks for great video as always
Ended up being a little over 10 ounces, actually. TFW
When i was in military in 1991, military in Norway started to do new MRE for soldiers. We had 2 days of exersice and we ate old food. They gave of tast of brand new stuff norwegian soldiers will fase in the future. We tasted a pasta dish and it was great tasting.
That's what I thought of the book....pretty darned good! TFW, Jan.
Does your canteen have measurements in the cup to know how much water.
Mine does not. I just know it holds 24 ounces when full. TFW
Anytime I'm doing any sort of work outside where I'm going to sweat a lot I make sure to pack pretzels in my lunch. From time to time I'll eat some of them and I'll even scoop some of the salt that accumulates in the bottom of the bag up and eat it too. Salt is good especially if you sweat
I like the salt idea, for sure. TFW
Hope you and ace did a catch and cook on them morels
Coming soon to his 2nd channel. TFW

When I did my service in the Norwegian army in early 90's we had old equipment like my GRU was from the Marshall-help so it was old 😛 and our sleepingbags where 3-layers you had to button up, we slept in these canvas-tents outside during a wintermarsh, every morning I had to pry my sleepingbag from the wall as it was frozen together with the tent. We did not have these fancy MRE's but we did have what we called RSP and was called among soldiers "Rester etter sprengt personell" wich basically means bits of blown up personel... tasted good tough.
The REAL is sold as civilian MRE too under the name REAL, if I remember right the norwegian defence procurement have not renewed their deal with them so they have to compete with other makers for a contract ... its a shame, why fix something that is not broken right ? unless ofcourse it have become too expensive.
Interesting about the current MREs in Norway. Our cold weather MRE also has many items from the civilian world. Great stories from your time while on active duty. If you were using Marshall-era equipment, it was either really tough and versatile or they didn't want to spend any money on the troops. TFW!
In the Carolinas they grew Carolina gold rice which came from West Africa that was one of the crops besides cotton and tobacco and only the Gullah geechee know how to cultivate that rice 🌾
REAL makes some AMAZING freeze dried meals. I always take them when camping and have about 9 or 10 in my bug out bag.
Great idea, for sure. We have bug out bags, too. Good idea. TFW!
You speak about canteen well I have a WW two German canteen, which is wood on the outside and I have the cup that straps to the top of the canteen bottle. I don’t think it’s worth anything but it’s still nice to have it from what I understand, it was taken off of a dead soldier.

I thought of this when you were talking about not being a fan of the dark chocolate. But enjoying most of the foreign chocolates.
A lot of American chocolate I've learned is flat out more bitter and acidy than many types of internal chocolate. So the international chocolate should be nicer than many American chocolates.
I've read that it has to do with the way the dairy breaks down. And something to do with butyric acid.
🤷🏽♀️ I had no idea until I was given the opportunity to have actual foreign made chocolates from other counties.
Natasha, I agree. International dark chocolate tastes way better than American. TFW
I think you and ace should do a tour of a factory that makes mres for a video sometime
That would be fun, Danny. Good idea. I'll have to put a think to that. TFW, as always.
I really hope you made something good with the fresh morels. The best MRE doesn't hold a candle to a well prepared dish with fresh morels. ✌️
You will have to watch for the morel mushroom video on Asa's Ace 2 channel. He's working on editing it now. TFW!
Love hearing you talk when your mouth’s full 🤤🫠😘🥰
I get excited sometimes. TFW, Phil.
I think the last 2 times you did a mre review with a mountain house entree, you added the recommended amount of water and it came out too watery both times. From experience, I’ve always found it’s better to add a little less water to mountain house entrees. And if you ever need to add more water you always can.
Good thing to keep in mind. TFW
for sure need more Norwegian mre!!!!🗣🗣
They are dandy tasting for sure. Did another review about a year ago. It was good, as I recall. TFW

That Norwegian Coffee said to be from Colombia but with a dutch windmill on the front had me laughing so hard.
I actually had a viewer from Norway tell me they have windmills in Norway.......funny the things you don't know. TFW!
The reason there's a dutch windmill on the colombian coffee is because while the beans are colombian the instant was made by the Dutch brand Poldermill. They're in a lot of European MREs.
The plastic bag is for packing up all the packing leftovers from the meal. IN peacetime you do not want to pollute. But also in wartime you do not want to leave trace of you being there at all. What i missed was a comparison of the total energy content. Also the chewing gum is a good idea because it help may help in oral hygiene if you have no toothbrush or time to brush your teeth. And as a side note I actually got hungry watching this video
That makes sense. The chewing gum idea is a good one, too. There were more calories in the Norway MRE. It seems like by about 400 calories. It was significant. TFW!
