Hi i do remember green stamps,in 70"s Granny's collection i got to lick & place in her booklets as Lil helper, we'd go down to the market she get something nice. She taught me how to hand washing, I'm going to soon buy a wash board as I'm washing by hand when hot weather is around.
I've been thinking about getting a ice maker and a newer generator, power station, very hard in heat no ice, or low gas to run daily for it.
I myself stay nearby stores,on a private property rental. I often wonder about being frugal, I've been asking God help with being it, because I'm in my 50s now, would like to see travel and my new grandson. I've been trying to build a camper for my truck. Budget is so tight. Be safe out there. Yes helps to know sewing, crochet, another thing my grandma did was quilts and those rag rugs.
Hi Lindy, when I was a kid, I collected those green stamps and gifted my aunt a small clock. You are so right about fixing things. If I can't fix something, I'll learn how. See you on the next video.
I got a baby buggy for my first son with green stamps in 1970.
Every spring we would all sit at the kitchen table & do green stamps so we could get a pool (8 kids). I always thought it was fun! Was so exciting year because we have extra to get two tennis racket!!🤑🤪
I got my firstborn’s crib with blue stamps! She is 53 this year! Sewed my own clothes growing up. We built our first house for $20,000 in 1973. I could go on an on. And yes! Make your own pizzas!
Born in 1962. I don’t remember green stamps but there were Betty Crocker stamps ( I think), that mom used to buy me cutlery for my 1982 wedding. I’ve lost a few pieces and can’t don’t my set.
Mom also made our own mayonnaise and kept it in the cupboard (gasp), not the refrigerator lol! We ate SOS weekly made from dried chipped beef and mom’s own white sauce. Served on day old toast. My mom was amazing. Skip forward to the 90’s. I was widowed at 35 years with 3 young children. My kids still fondly recall the biscuits, white gravy and cheese I served in my weekly rotation of vegetarian dinners. It’s all about surviving. Thanks Lindy!
They were simpler times .. saving the green stamps and also remember the local establishments like the Shell Gas Station that gave them and also allowed us to earn our drinking glasses each time we filled our gas tanks. Life was much simpler then for sure. We picked local crops and along with my aunts and uncles we did gleaning at the local farms for fruit and nuts and berries... there were always lots of left crops and we dried and canned them for Winter. Miss those days!
I remember putting the green stamps in the booklets for my mother! Good memories. ❤
My husband was in Vietnam in 1968 & was taking R&R but we had no money and a 6 month old baby. My MIL put an ad in local paper asking for donations of green stamps so I could meet him. Stamps paid for my airfare. Who would ever think I could go to Hawaii on green stamps. Everyone was so generous. After I got enough I started declining them but many insisted on giving them anyway to get things for the baby. I got a large square playpen and cloth diapers and a walker. We had a wonderful week in Hawaii. I came home with $7.00 and he went back to VN with $3.00. I’m still grateful for the generosity by my community. He was wounded 11 days after returning and spent the next 3 months in the hospital in Japan. He survived to come home to me & our daughter.
What a great story. Green stamps.
Not only do I remember Greenstamps, I still have books of them found among my mother's papers after she died. Where I live there is a Repair Cafe, that meets a a couple of locations in town. They fix small electrical appliances, computers, do sewing alterations and many other tasks that keep items out of the landfill. I know how to repair shoes, and just about anything else I own. I shop Outlet stores for food, but have cut back drastically. I have been a mindful Prepper for many years, and have been about to stash food, and dry goods to last a long time, for self, pets and adult children. I grow some of my own food, and have a Hydoponic set-up that can be used in the garage with Grow-lights or outside. Being frugal has allowed me to have a far higher standard of living, something I have refined to a fine art. I also review different aspects of life on a monthly basis and make adjustments as I see fit. Living in keeping with my values is a high priority.
I remember collecting green stamps in booklets with Mom. I don't remember what we traded them in for, though.
Yes! I remember Green Stamps! 😆
Remember when the banks would give out all kinds of great gifts like if you open just a small savings account
I remember Greenstamps, my Mother got all kinds of things with them.❤
My mother got our dining room chairs, one by one, from Green Stamps. I can still see the pick up place in my head (in the San Fernando Valley); the conveyer belt. the long line to pick up your treasured item... I also remember her saving up for the 4th chair and the utter disappointment when they were no longer available. The memories that stick with us.....💕
Always interesting as usual. Thanks Lindy 🤗🤗
I have some green stamps my grandparents had.
yep I remember the green stamps! Your videos aren't long enough!
I do remember S & H Green Stamps. My aunt decorated her home with them. I don't remember acquiring their products, but I do remember their redemption center, so I must have! LOL
My whole childhood we saved S&H Green Stamps. We always shopped at Almacs. We bought 2 sets of china dishes blue and red that we used all the time. Also I remember getting a blanket.
I remember green stamps, my mother was really into saving them, if you went to the store and came home without the green stamps, you would sure hear about it! Love to listen to you , feel like I am listening to a friend, All your tips are great! I thought about van life for several years but am glad I decided against it, I lived off grid for several years when I was young, learned more about life than all the years previous . It is hard work , your days are filled with chores just to live. Remember if you need a break on your travels , I'm in Tucson, if you want you could hook up to elec and water, or you would be welcome in the house with Marly of course.
❤❤🎉
I used to buy my children's Christmas toys with Green Stamps.❤
Sounds fun! ❤
I remember the green stamps. We got a few things with them. Good old times❤️
The dryer went out, so I have been hanging up my clothes.
I still take Pops to the laundry mat, for now, since he has different hours than me (think roosting with the chickens!).
Working on finding parts for the old dryer.
I was a kid when they had Green Stamps and the Yellow Stamps as well. There was a Green Stamp redemption center near us in Georgia although I don't remember what my mother got. Now my Grandmother got me a bird cage with the Yellow Stamps for my birthday, since I wanted a parakeet. That was great! Around where we live , when my oldest was a kid, they brought the Green Stamps for a short time to a store. I was able to get an electric deli slicer with it. Then they shut down the Green Stamp program. I think they went to some sort of online point earning system instead of using Groceries. It'd be nice if they brought it back.
I remember the yellow were called gold bond stamps!😁
I got a stroller with green stamps in 1972
I do alot of what you say Lindy as I too am a senior 77.. I love your little gifts of wisdom.
I loved going into the green stamp redemption store and picking things out with my mother. Filling up the little booklets after a shopping trip.
Thank you
Green stamps were fun😊
Potatoes with skin is very healthy Lindy. It has a source of fiber, minerals and vitamins. I always make jacket potatoes. Your ideas are really sound. Thanks for sharing them.
My grandmother is your age has been a widow since November and living only on ss check of 1,200 and can not find a place to live so I keep sending her your videos trying to get her to do what you do because she won't leave Phoenix because that's where her husband is.rip and every help place is full for years
Thank you for sharing your frugal tips.❤
Oh yes,I remember green stamps...lol
Would love to see how corn starch does on hair..
My Mom saved green stamps but I was a kid so the only thing I remember was when I had been to the doc due to illness. Afterwards my Mom went by and got a doll for me using green stamps. That stands out because we were frugal by necessity and our folks never bought anything for my sister and me. So it was quite a surprise
I got some things for my newborn son in 1974 at the Green Stamp store
Good morning everyday to you tooo😅
My friend used corn starch to wash her hair for three weeks, never used anything else, and everyone who saw her commented how beautiful her hair looked.
I loved green stamps 😃💕 memories of the good old days 😊
I remember green stamps, I got a kitchen chair with steps
I remember that chair my mom got one too ! Good memories 😊
I got a great foot stool with green stamps. Loved going to redeem then.
Love the frugal tips ❤
I have clothes lines beside my woodburner for winter. Time also puts moisture in the air too !during the summer I have clothes lines outside!
Living in an RV park I’m not allowed to hang clothes outside. I hang as much inside as I can. I love my side ice maker.
Mom got plenty of things with greenstamps
Agree 100%, over the years I have learned to do a lot, initial attempts looked crap but as I became more proficient it looks almost as good as proffesional. The most important lesson learned was to invest in good quality versatile tools, it makes a massive difference, the job is just so much easier. Take care Lindy!
I still have some 😂
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one that says "warsh"😊
Are you from Pennsylvania?😁
Also S & H stamps, got a beautiful suede jacket!
My mom saved Green Stamps 😂. I was a coupon queen a few years ago. I don’t get a paper, don’t work in restaurants anymore.
I still have about half book of green stamps.
Pee as fertilizer for plants. It works. Also, unrefined coconut oil on face. My mom asked what I was using on my face.
Pressed avocado oil if you need a lighter moisturizer than coconut oil.
Cloths lines are considered "unsightly" and not allowed in most neighborhoods 😥 Nothing better than sleeping on sheets dried by the sun 🤗
Hi Lindy: I sure do remember green stamps! Life seemed so much simpler back then. I loved looking at things you could get for redeeming them. Hope you and Marley are doing well in the heat. 🥵 Hugs. Rosemarie ❤
Yes! I remember green stamps. I bought a small hobnail lamp with my first books of stamps.
yes Green stamps I went to the store in Santa Roasa Ca
Lindy, remember in the 50's, 60's you got china cups etc at the movies. I'm 78 so it's before your time.😊❤
Pieces of dinnerware when you bought groceries at Piggly Wiggly too.😁
I repaired my clothes dryer 10 years ago and it’s still working great. I’m 64, I remember Green Stamps.
We had green stamps in South Jersey too.
I dust with used dryer sheets.
Darling Marley.
My mom was a hairstylist from the sixties on and used to use baking soda wash to strip our hair of chemicals so as to start with a “clean slate.” ❤
Thank you for sharing ✌🏽💖🤟🏽
I used green stamps to get a lit of things.
Being able to do simple repairs can save you a bundle. I love especially likenthe skin from those little red potatoes.
Ya Yes...I'm Trying To Get WiLL Prowse to Do a Custom Power Set & SoLar Van System Around Nov 8th, Or March 15th, Then me & my Brother WilL instalL a mini~ SpLit A/C 4 Lyndys Van
I had 5 full books of green stamps. I had a space in an antique mall last year and sold a book for $2. Apparently, people collect anything. I have a friend that went to the library, where they were giving out free herb seeds in small envelopes. She gave me about 7 different kinds. The next day I was at the thrift store, and they had a box full of clay pots outside for free. I took them home and planted my herbs in them and put them outside to grow. I take used dryer sheets and wet them down with just a little liquid fabric softener and use them in the dryer. You can keep using them until they wear out. I fill plastic pop bottles 3/4 full of water and freeze them. When we go somewhere I use them in my softside cooler and put my food in around them. I don't have all the mess of ice in a bag. Bought a pair of name brand jeans at St. Vinnie's. They fit like a glove. Wore them a whole day, before I figured out they had a big rip next to the back pocket. I sewed them up by hand using tight stitches and you can barely tell, because they are the stretchy denim. Keep being frugal!😁✌🤟
Cream of Tartar comes from the inside of wine barrels. It is a byproduct of wine.
Did not know that, it's probably the reason it's healthy
Yes I remember green stamp.
I grew up in Japan. We even had a store who offered green stamps. I think the idea came from United States.
S&H Green Stamps sure enough. We big kids would help & sit with a wet sponge & stick them in the books. Mom used them to buy sheets because they had the best quality. When u have a big family of 7, sheets typically are not a priority so the Green Stamps really helped.
I remember Gemco and blue chip stamps😊I also miss the five and dime stores like Woolworth's
Oh Woodworth
Hi Lindy, Marley, Jason....luv this fungal series....I used so many things already like vinegar, baking soda. Please could you do a frito pie again. Luv u all. Susie nyc❤❤😊
We did about a month ago.
Oh yes, I remember green stamps was fun when I was a kid
I like freezing bottles of water. On a hot day you take one out and in about 20 mins you'll have a little bit to drink and then you'll have ice water for almost 4-5 hours unless you are outside in the heat then it'll be 2-3 hours. Lindy you could freeze a chunk of ice for Marley to lick off of for several hours. I'm thinking I need a bigger freezer
We used green stamps, too.
I pick up cookie tins secondhand to store food. Never more than $3 each
💥 LINDY when you mentioned green stamps , BLUE CHIP STAMPS popped into my mind...not totally sure what they were.... I am going to start making my own reusable dryer sheets & see how that works out
We had Green stamps and Plaid stamps in central PA.
Rarely use coupons anymore. Usually store brand is cheaper than name brand minus coupon
Hey Lindy
Here's what I found for Medical benefits of Cream of Tartar.... enjoy
Cream of tartar may have several health benefits, including:
Blood pressure
Cream of tartar's potassium content may help lower blood pressure by removing excess sodium from the body.
Digestion
Cream of tartar's potassium and magnesium content may help relieve constipation and regulate the digestive tract. However, consuming too much cream of tartar can have the opposite effect, and some case studies have shown toxicity.
Skin
Cream of tartar's acidic properties may help treat acne and other skin conditions by eliminating bacteria that causes inflammation.
Arthritis
Cream of tartar may help reduce arthritis pain and inflammation.
Digestive system
I rember pasting green stamps for my mother. Don't remember what we bought with them.
Remember double coupon day? I used to have lots of coupons but hard to come by now. Now I buy when the store has a sale on certain items I regularly buy. Like Ground hamburger at $1.99 a pound instead of 6.99 a pound. I use only half a dryer sheet per load which saves me money.
I have been watching you Aggie. Love listening to you.
S&H stores would give them away and you would put them in your stamp book, save them up and trade them in. I want to say the old 5 and dime stores did something like that as well. Hope the trip is going well and Flagstaff turns out to be a welcome change in the weather!
Have a great day Lindy
I remember the green stamps. I think my mama got a hair dryer that looked like the beauty shop “hood” ones lol.
For those whose not knowing hanging out ya bedding is best, getting rid of bed bugs, lice, germs, same with clothes, i used to help hangout laundry 🧺 and hung out my kids clothes, saved my quarters for our 🍦🍦🍨, laundry mats are handy for your wallet.
I have used the cornstarch for hair. Works pretty good.
Yea, the cream of tartar is my 'electrolyte' support right now. :)
The larger the piece of ice the longer it lasts in cooler. Just break up as needed. When hurricane is coming I freeze large containers of water so I can keep food in cooler for few days.
My friend has added ice to canned drinks in her washing machine 👍 Can't use the washer when power is out during a hurricane. As the ice will melt-you can now reuse to wash clothes when power comes back on. Also- put valuable paperwork etc inside the dish washer & lock the door 👍
It's called 'Planned Obsolescence'. The product breaks after the warranty runs out. I hate that.
❤
Ya Mom Took Use Kids To the Green Stamp MercantiLe, Once a Year Or So& Got 😮😊American made Products& @ Like 5yrs OLd She would Take FamiLy to SaLvation Army it Was/iS a ❤😊😊ICONIC😊😊❤ MEMORY.
You can actually buy a jacket and other things at the thrift store cheaper you can sew them . Material is outrageous
Especially the Yarn which poor quality but higher price. I used to crochet my dog jacket, no more because the extremely fuzziness and insane yarn prices.
No. But I remember Blue Chip Stamps though.
Ice cubes are my dog’s favorite treat in the summer. ❤
They still had green stamps 6 years ago in Tennessee. Butter up those skins. Have you tried the refreezeable ice cubes? I found you a scrub board if you still want one? In Central America we had built in concrete scrub boards called a pila and below was water storage all built in.
👋 ❤
at 80 I do all that
🙂👍
Cream of Tartar- potassium hydrogen tartrate ... heartburn for UTI, lower blood pressure.
Green Stamps Yeahss... my dad eould get them in Jewels Grocery store 70's. He'd get items for the house and when i was in my 20 i used. Sad when it stopped.
I still use coupons. They used to be on the Saturday newspapers. Now you have apps on phone.
I've heard baking soda for washing hair not corn starch.
Corn starch is like a dry shampoo. To wash hair with baking soda you put some in water, pour it on your hair and work it through.
I like toix aloe vera powder, zinc oxide powder, and other powders in with cornstarch for the skin. I have used deodorant under my boobs to help with chaffing and smell. I use my cornstarch mixture under my arms, undery boobs, ony little place down under, or anywhere I feel I need some protection and helps with order , presperation, and lady needs, and whatever. Apple Cider Vinegar is good for the stomach, hygiene, washing hair which I usually used with warm water, I have mixed a raw egg with apple cider vinegar to wash my hair with.
