My son showed me a CZcams channel called The Water Machine. I purchased it and my son helped me put it together. I am now putting my tap water into my Water Machine. It has a 3 gallon tank and uses 2 filters. It uses gravity of the water with the filters. According to the directions if you use 3 gallons of water per day the filters should last 5 years. My son gifted me 2 additional filters, so maybe we can get 10 years out of it. I have been using it for drinking, cooking and watering the cats. My son helped me locate my well and is putting a hand pump on it for my use. He says I can use my well water and filter it through my water machine. This will be helpful in the event that I am not able to get City water into the house. I stopped buying water bottles.

I've come to realize that the key to amassing wealth lies in making sound investments. I purchased my first home at the age of 21 for $87,000 and sold it for $197,000. My second home, acquired for $170,000, was later sold for $320,000, and my third property, purchased at $300,000, fetched $589,000, with buyers covering all closing costs and expenses. Not reaching a million before retirement feels like an unfulfilled goal.

Helpful dental tips to prevent cavities(prevent dental visits) : 1. Do not rinse after brushing your teeth, just spit out the access. This allows for a soapy effect as the bubbles from the toothpaste gets chance to really go and lie in between the teeth.
    2. Rinse your mouth with water after EVERY meal or when drinking anything other than water. This neutralizes the ph levels in the mouth preventing the acidic effect of the foods or liquids.
    3. Consume nothing after your teeth are already brushed at night. If you do, make sure to brush again. For the saliva levels reduce almost completely at night(since you don't swallow while sleeping). Saliva going between the teeth is very healthy for it. The less saliva an individual produces, the more cavities they have.

I’m impressed with your standing in the trash Can to compact it.. That’s a new one for me. I never buy ink pens, rather whenever I’m in a business I always ask if they have pens advertising their businesses. And envelopes, I use those return envelopes from bills etc, and I unfold them so that the writing is inside and glue it back together with the blank side showing!! Also, I always have a small gift ready. I buy memo pads on sale, wrap them and stick an ink pen thru the bow.. I kept them in the trunk of my car along with greeting cards I made, always am ready for gift giving. I also bought small plants in the .99 cent store, brought them home, cared for them and when necessary, I repotted them in a pretty pot to give away or bring to the hospital when visiting a friend. These are just a few of my frugal fixes! Stay safe!!! 🎯🙏⚓️

Wearing clothes more then once unless they are really dirty … not buying valentines decorations because u are still decluttering and want to keep going … cooking from scratch and in the morning instead of at dinner time and being rushed . … trying to use up everything In your pantry … I used to stock up on ALOT of extra cleaning products which I no longer do… it takes up too much of my storage space and takes me far too long to go through them and I clean my house daily . But your favorite tip I got a chuckle out of was putting your foot in the wastebasket and crushing your own trash ! I absolutely hate cooking in the morning but I do a lot of cooking in the late afternoon and meal prep things during that time since it's when I'm functioning at my peak lol. If you make waffles, make the whole box at once and freeze the extras and toast up as needed. If you make banana bread or muffins make double and freeze the extra and thaw as you want them. Freeze your dinner leftovers(or any meal really) instead of shoving them in the fridge, I tend to not want to eat the same thing again right away and it keeps me from wasting it if I freeze it and that tends to be lunch when it's just me and the babies at home(babies barely eat lol). I'd rather cook a ton at once than be in and out of the kitchen all day lol.

Great ideas. My septic man told me to test my TP by holding it under running water. It should just dissolve quickly where the water runs over it. So important to maintain what we have, all of our home systems and appliances are so expensive nowdays. I'm washing in cold water now and using about 1/4 of the detergent. I cut my dryer sheets in half when I use them, but don't use them regularly. Hanging up many of my heavier items and towels to dry on my drying racks. I'm going to do your trick with brushing my teeth, you won't be letting the water run while brushing either. LOL. Its just my husband and I and we wear our jeans for multiple days and do limited numbers of loads of laundry. We are only going to the grocery to buy loss leaders and dairy and fresh vegs and fruits. We are doing great on elimitating food waste, we are eating the leftovers or remaking them. I'm totally with you on cooking early in the day, boy in the evening I just don't feel like doing it. I've stayed away from thrift stores since January, like you I'm not bringing any unnecessary items into my home. I don't need any additional decor or clothing no matter how good the deal is, so I'm just avoiding shopping. Also I've polished up my leather shoes which were looking a bit shabby and now they look brand new.

When we bought our house, the former owner did not have a garbage disposal in the kitchen. He would use those mesh sink strainers that would collect the small particles in the sink from going down the drain. The plumber that camera-inspected our sewer line said that it was really clean and that most people have plumbing problems in the kitchen because of their garbage disposal (putting too much stuff down the drain). He recommended that we continue doing what the former owner did with the mesh sink strainers. We have and it seems to be serving us well so far.

I do many things, but one thing I do everyday is heat up my water for tea, hot chocolate, etc. I then put that hot water in a thermos. I unplug my electric tea pot from the wall and do not use it multiple times throughout the day. I only use it one time. I then take the hot water from my thermos to use for tea, hot chocolate, etc. The thermos I use has a glass inside, so my hot water stays hot until the next day. I also use my thermos to bring on road trips or will fill it if a storm is coming and we might lose power. A thermos is very important and every kitchen should have a couple in my opinion.
You can also do this with coffee. Make a pot of coffee one time and pour it in a thermos. Instead of using a Keurig and turning it on and off all day, make an old fashioned pot of coffee and put it in a thermos. This way small appliances are not running all day and getting turned off and on constantly. It saves the small appliances and your electric bill a little bit.

🚽My sister's plumber taught us an important lesson. There are mainly two types of tissues in a household, the ones that are supposed to fall apart when wet - that would be toilet paper. And tissues that were developed to stay super strong when wet - that's kitchen wipes and paper hankies. The ones that do not fall apart should never ever be thrown into the toilet. I mean it's obvious but we, like many people, had thrown hankies into the toilet before. And when you wipe surfaces etc. in the bathroom...where does the tissue land? I hope not in the toilet. 🙂

I buy 1/3 of paper towels since covid started or less. There wasn't any to buy. I cut up 5 of my microfiber towels into squares and have a mass quanity. I have a mixing bowel mixed with vinegar and some water in my sink at all times. I clean up the counters and wave the crumbs in the garbage can, rinse the material and leave it in the bowel of vinegar to soak and disinfect for the next job. I also couldn't get bleach at the time neither and I have never looked back. Microfiber towels can be found at thrift stores. I change them out daily and wash them with my towels weekly. If push comes to shove, one could cut the squares smaller and make them into toilet paper for pee only. Also, my dryer broke down 9 years ago and I haven't had one since. My coworker got a new washer and dryer and tried to give me her old still working dryer. Didnt want it! I hang everything on a hanger to line dry or hang it over the banister to dry. Dawn, if you want to save on TP buy a bidet. And, like most other items, TP costs less at Grocery Outlet stores. Portable bidets can be found for $49.00, others cost a bit more, a simple solution, that will quickly pay for itself. I really enjoy a CZcams channel where I learn how to dress like a French Woman, as well as a couple of others that teach similar skills. Simple classic styled clothes, that are good quality last for many years and do not have to cost a fortune. My favourite item is a long camel coloured cashmere coat, that came from a boutique thrift store in England ten years ago. Makes me feel like a million dollars every time I wear it with knee high boots, plus hat and gloves trimmed with fake fur. A selection of silk or mohair scarves. belts, shoes and bags can all be combined to create different modern looks. Just yesterday, I came across a pair of London Fog snow boots, brand new. How could I say "No", when they were only 4.99? And, match my London Fog luggage? I'd challenge anyone to tell me the set isn't brand new, it is in perfect condition and cost $10.00 for all three pieces!

  • @jonnaborosky8836
    @jonnaborosky8836 Před 2 lety +6

I like seeing how you save money all around the house. When it comes to TP, I buy whatever's on sale. Never thought of it as clogging plumbing.
I watched a CZcams video (Living on a Dime to....something, I don't remember what, by Tara and her mother) about how to use less...successfully. They said never to wad TP, but only to fold it. Tear off 4 squares, fold it over and use that. I can't quite be successful with 4 squares; I use 5. For, let's say, non-liquid needs for TP in the bathroom, more than 5 squares are needed. I roll out about 8-9 squares, then double that and fold it up into about 4-5 "faces" of the paper. One "face" or presentation of paper isn't enough to get clean, so I keep turning the folds over for a clean presentation of paper until I'm clean. I also keep a little spray bottle of water available to give a very slight mist to the paper before I use it. It acts a bit like a baby wipe...cleans better, I find. May that's TMI...but that's how I save on TP. I learned the mist of water from another video, which was about "freeganism".
I don't change furnace/ AC filters enough, because it costs a fortune for me to get it done. I realize I should.
Now that I'm diabetic, I can't eat potatoes anymore...😭. No carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, turnips, parsnips, etc. No root vegetables at all. Keeps me healthier, as root veggies have more sugar in them than other veggies, but still...😭😭😭. I think I'll survive, though!☺☺.
I don't do the wash every week either. I live alone. I don't generate that much laundry. I wear clothing more than once, too. I not only rotate clothing, I rotate everything made out of cloth...sheets, towels, dish cloths, cleaning cloths, cloth napkins. I don't rotate curtains and drapes. I put them up, and those are the drapes for that window. I wash them about 2X a year. And I do wash them. I don't have them dry cleaned. When dry cleaners pressed in the pleats, I had drapes dry cleaned, because it's a bear of a job to do that at home with a regular sized ironing board. When dry cleaners started sending drapes back pressed flat, I stopped using dry cleaners for drapes. Now, I machine wash and dry curtains and drapes. I used to iron curtains (I like crisp linens), but no more. Now I put them up as soon as they come out of the dryer. I take drapes out of the dryer and hand press them, to put the pleats in. The pleats are softer that way, and look better. I spread them out on a bed to do that. Then hang them back up before they have a chance to get messed up. I say I "do" this now when really I used to do that. Now it only gets done if there's someone to help me. I can't do any of that on my own anymore. I know I'm dating myself by talking about pleated drapes. Drapes are expensive, or can be. I've bought what I loved, and just kept using them. As long as they're still in good shape, I see no need to buy more, or new ones. When I move, they'll get switched around some , like living room drapes go the bedroom, or kitchen curtains to the bathroom, etc. I rarely,if ever, but new drapes. I made a pleated valance once out of fabric leftover from a bed skirt...that matched the drapes, and I made kitchen curtains out of pillow cases once. I made the pleated valance by hand because I didn't have my sewing machine set up and re-making pillow cases is easy by hand. Otherwise, though, without a sewing machine set up n it'd be way too hard to make drapes.
But, I'm always looking for ways to use what I already have when I need something.
    I love that Christmas top!!
    I love you, too! ❤

I have apps for all the stores I shop at. I know Safeway, Sprouts, CVS and sometimes Fred Meyer has free coupons so that helps add to my pantry either for now or as a prepper item. We also don’t wash our clothes often…the way things are made these days they won’t last long if you wash them every time you wear them. I just read a book by the creators of the Buy Nothing Group and that’s a great way to get things you want or need without paying for it, plus it helps the environment when you don’t buy new. At my library they put long pieces of paper in your books that are on the hold shelf and I use those for my shopping list. I try to make things at home since it’s cheaper and healthier. I also like to cook based on what’s cheap. If I find discounts on steak then we’ll eat steak and if not, we can figure out something else. Just today at my Sprouts store I saw sirloin for $18.99 a pound and I’m pretty sure before recent events it was half that price! It’s getting ridiculous! I will say to invest in another freezer so you can stockpile when meat goes cheap. Months ago I stocked up on chicken breasts that was $.99 a pound then last week I found whole chickens for $.99 a pound and that was way cheaper than the cut up chicken pieces.

Thank you for your tips!😊We do recycle just as much as we have trash. I use to use the cheaper toilet paper but a very bad idea for us. It only creates other problems health wise. I would not use a dry toothbrush with toothpaste as the dentist said how abrasive toothpaste is and never use more than a pea sized amount. It is a good idea to wet that brush to help with the abrasiveness. I take advantages of sales. One thing we do is: turn out lights if you are not in a room unless it is a lower or dimmer light in an area.

Hi! We just had a clogged floor drain in our home that we had to get the Rotor Rooter guy out for! Not the brand Roto-Rooter but a Rotor Rooter guy! AND he was down in our basement looking in our sewer line and he could tell by looking with the camera in the sewer line what kind of torque paper we were using!!!! He said oh no! They're using Charmin Ultra Strong!
The guy said to me you cannot use that kind of toilet paper! It's totally clogged up in your drain! He said to use ANGEL SOFT, or something like Scott tissue would also be fine!
I found that crazy that you were talking about toilet paper and your plumber said that and our plumber said the same!! We do have roots in our lines that have to be cleaned out every 2 years.

The laundry is a great starting point for improving frugality. Our modern day clothes that we tend to wear only once do not get very dirty. Unless you work down a coal mine or something like that, you need only the most minimal amount of laundry detergent. And as for all the scented extras like the little fragrance balls, softeners, etc, that’s just another way for the manufacturers to take your money.

A plumber told me that for my front load washing machine that I should use very little detergent. He said to pour detergent to the count of two and stop. In the machines I've had, this is less than what is marked on the washer's detergent dispenser. The plumber said that too many suds will destroy the pump, and that actually happened in my sister's washing machine. The single ply toilet paper is probably better for the plumbing because it will dissolve faster, but I always use more single ply toilet paper, so I'm not sure how much of a savings that would be for me. I guess I should do a comparison test and see.

Thank you for the info about teeth brushing. And for the advice about plumbing. I love the idea of shorter showers. That was a great 🍌 bargain. I prefer the name brand chocolate. There's nothing wrong with buying Valentine decorations, as long as you're going to use them again next year, and the year after that, and so on & so forth. This is definitely a great video.
