      I'm trying to make up my mind between the rpha 71 and the f70 carbon. Is there a reason to lean towards one over the other?

    I love my 70 ST i have 2. This looks like a downgrade. I dont like how theyre forcing you to buy their proprietary comms unit by taking up the space where you would put an aftermarket one.

  • @StevieGTO4

    So they made it worse and more expensive. Got it!

    Was seriously looking at this model for an ECE22.06 reated version of the rpha70. However the slimness of the shell was one of the main factors pro rpha, which they took away. The weird visor mechanism prohibiting a sensible 3/4-open position for the summer is just the icing on the nono-cake. The sunvisor-setup seems cool, but does not outweigh the negatives...

      Also seriously disappointed. They dropped the ball on this one.

      I can’t fathom WHY they did the visor with only cracked, halfway and full open. Has ANY biker ever wished for this type of visor????

  • @pelanth
    @pelanth Před rokem +2

    Thank you for calling out the US versions aren't ECE 22.06. Some US vendors are stating it is. Also, glad you have an ECE 22.06 filter on the site. Really helpful.

    Shame that they did this and are discontinuing the 70ST. Not being able to attach an aftermarket comms is a deal breaker

  • @jecsah
    @jecsah Před 12 dny

    Two things for folks considering this lid.
    1. The reviews are correct, there is super loud wind noise caused by the cut puts for coms. If you turn ypur head a few degrees off center its a super quiet helmet. Otherwise, its like riding in a loud jet aircraft. Quality is top notch.
    2. You can get this at champion helmets for $330ish and it will arrive in 4-5 days AND it will be ECE certified. Im glad i save so much over RevZilla given the noise. Id be pissed at $500

    I have a 70 ST and a 11 pro. I just replaced the side plates and the shields that were worn out. This 71 is disappointing to me, so it looks like Im keeping the old one for a bit longer than I thought.

      @osamdesete Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yep, and with the intercom on the left side, it's actually the right side that is generating more noise :( It's a shame because it's a pretty good helmet overall...

  • @jayzee1968

    It’s 2023. No ECE.06, no buy. Case close. DOT is a joke. Please let all your vendors and manufacturers know where customers are at. I have $1k in the wings… looking to get two, ece.06 rated helmets soon.

    • @rmg_lb
      @rmg_lb Před rokem +3

      This is also coming to europe where it has the ECE22.06. I would be very surprised if there'd be any difference in the us and eu version. No clue why HJC is not putting the sticket on the us helmets, but the model is ECE22.06 homologated.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před rokem +16

      Shells between the US and ECE versions are different. Most manufacturers are that way, to pass DOT the shells usually get thicker and heavier but are NOT 22.06 cert unless we say in the videos. Can’t just read Europes’ websites and assume they are the same.

    • @rmg_lb
      @rmg_lb Před rokem +1

      @@RevZilla That's really interesting and something I didn't know. Thanks for the clarification!

    • @MotoDash1100
      @MotoDash1100 Před rokem +1

      @@rmg_lbSchuberth for example makes a great modular helmet, but their DOT model *IS* not the same as the ECE, for DOT I read somewhere they added a basalt layer(?) which explains the difference in weight between DOT and ECE
      If Schuberth could've made one helmet for both markets I believe they would have, meaning that with the extra weight and placement of the basalt(?) it wouldn't pass the rotational force part of the ECE testing.
      TL;DR ECE or nothing. If it's cross homologated then it should be able to have both stickers, not have a DOT sticker at expense of my neck snapping.

    • @MotoDash1100
      @MotoDash1100 Před rokem +1

      @@RevZillaThank you for clarifying that, and please take this as me 17th'ing what the other person said.
      HJC has done good with RPHA line making them DOT _and_ ECE, but this video and the newer HJC helnet review you did are giving me doubts about being able to buy a good helmet from them again.

  • @NMalteC
    @NMalteC Před měsícem

    I bought this helmet based on reviews, its double D ring strap, and because it fits my head perfectly. Had I known how noisy (especially wind noise) it is I would probably not have bought it.

    • @patrickmchugh8039
      @patrickmchugh8039 Před měsícem

      Are you wearing ear plugs with the helmet? All helmets are loud or at least impossible to review loudness since it depends on your bike's aero more than the helmets. But ear plugs is the only thing that will make a helmet quiet. And considering after 40 mph for 15 minutes your doing severe damage to your ears, ear plugs are something every rider should be wearing.

    Dead on review for me. Thanks for keeping it honest to not try the sell the heck out of it. I too am an ST70 enthusiast and use Cardo systems. So no go for me. I've heard that this helmet is also much noisier then the ST70.

      Sorry, I wasn't very clear. Could you provide insight on what is considered the spiritual successor to the Helmet 70ST? Given the notable shift in design direction with the new Helmet (71). I'm interested in alternatives that capture the essence and key features of the 70ST.

    I have the same 70, very nice and helmet. i expected more of the 71 Is it almost in all minuses. Nice it have a battery pack. Would nice if you can put a cool element in. As owner of 3 hjc helmets i probably go for the scorpion exo-1400 evo air attune next. I dont like the new collection rpha at all, also owner of the 10+ carbon. I think the price is going to high for hjc helmets.

    • @RevZilla
      @RevZilla  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, that used to be the case. But when helmets like this RPHA 71 have built in ports / battery doors for a specific comm unit, the Packtalk Slim won't work that well with it sadly. Especially when using the the rear battery mounting since it needs EPS to slide behind while this helmet has a plastic battery location already built in.

      This helmet is designed to fit the HJC 21B / 50B units, but with enough thought you can install whatever BT unit you want onto it. It will just take some rearranging and thinking through to avoid the plastic 21B / 50B door on the side when mounting the unit.

    I wish more manufacturers would drop Sena for their helmet-specific coms. I've had so many issues with the SRL and SRL-Mesh, and Sena's customer/after sale support is pretty terrible. Cardo hasn't let me down so far with the PT Black and PT Edge. The AGV Tourmodular is the only one that comes to mind with a helmet-specific unit based on Cardo hardware.

    As someone that has multiple RPHA 70STs, and 10/11 Pros, this pile looks like a complete loss by HJC. Big L for forcing consumers to use inferior Sena products, Big L for making it bulkier, Big L for making it heavier. Bet this one flops.

    Lol a “RPHA” helmet for almost $500 that’s DOT only? Lol HJC taking a page out of Shoei’s playbook which is exactly why I switched to HJC in the first place. No one should be releasing helmets that aren’t ece 22.06 anymore

    Nice job on the review. Disappointing offering from HJC. I love my 70 st. The 71 being heavier, more expensive, bulkier, only dot rated, fewer vents, and annoying integrated com all combines to be an overall downgrade of a great helmet. It's unfortunate since im in the market for a new helmet.

    I just want a helmet that protects my head. I want it quiet enough. I want enough air flow. That's it. Otherwise I'd ride without a stupid helmet. Why can't these manufacturers just cut it with all the electronic features and gizmos, they're acting like the car-buying public who just want nonstop feature up-scaling and distraction crap, and only making a worse product in the end.
