    Great review. You’re the only reviewer I’ve seen who mentions the visor coming down at speed, even with 2 different motos.
    I wonder if there is some hack to strengthen that area. I usually only open the visor at a stop but if I choose to keep it open I don’t want it flipping down by itself as you demonstrated.
    Thanks also for reviewing how the helmet performs with the chin bar up at speed.
    Keep up the good work. I learned a lot from this vid

      I have that problem with mine as well. I have sent emails to HJC and so far they have only responded that they sent to quality control. Not impressed
      To fix this it looks like they just need to deepen the top notch slightly on the mechanisms on each side or have stronger springs in the mechanism.
      I am almost to the point where I will be doing it myself.
      At this moment I would not recommend this helmet until they address and fix this issue

    I can highly recommend this one! The only thing is: Go to the shop and try it. Sadly, my size is a bit loose thanks to it got bumped up to a bigger shell size. It is not as snug as the other HJC helmet with the same size with a smaller shell size, and a size smaller doesn't fit me well.
    Check it for yourself, I might be wrong on this one, since this is subjective.

    I just recently bought a left over RPHA 90, the previous model. It is the quietest helmet I have owned to date, including, Nolans, Shoeis, and Schuberths. The Shoeis were horrible as far as wind noise went and had build quality issues. The Schuberth and the Nolans were fairly equal as far as noise goes. The Nolans have a lot of great features that other helments don't have. There is a detent so that the visor can be held open at just a crack. Helps with ventilation and the noise is slightly reduced with it open it would probably help with the HJC as well if it would do that. The Nolans have a double latch on the chin bar, extra in the event of a crash. I do not like the D rings on my 90, the ratch strap on the 91 would be a big plus for me. Also the chin bar on the Nolans have an eliptical hinge so it stays very close to the shell when open, limiting drag when open . Something else HJC could look into. To date the Nolans have been my favorite helmets but the HJC has moved into first place. I got mine for half price, probably the only reason I bought it. Too bad I can't take a helmet out on the road prior to purchase. I would like to try the 91 to see if it is improved enough over the 90 to justify purchase. Road tests are just not allowed. I would have brought the Neotech ll back after one block if I could have. I put it in the saddle bag and rode home in my beatup old Nolan.

      I have this issue with a competitor, the Schuberth C5, and I have heard about the “safety feature” aspects. As a rider on bikes with windshields that are tall enough to keep the bugs and rocks out of my face, I find that they also keep the wind out of the vents and riding with the face shield up can be useful. I do not agree with it being a safety feature. As this helmet break in, it will get to the point where the face shield will barely stay open in a mild breeze. I guess we can always take the face shields completely off.

  • @BradinManheim
    @BradinManheim Před 8 měsíci +2

    Unless they changed it, the sun visor is not made to be ridden by itself; it is not impact resistant. You would need separate goggles to do that. I always ride with my 90S with shield down. With chin bar up it is not an issue.

I wouldn't say they're quieter as a whole, they seem to be on par for the most part with similar helmets in their price range. They've gotten a lot better since the RPHA line came out in my opinion. I have the Schuberth C5 and the HJC RPHA 91. I've rotated these helmets over the last 3,000 miles and I can say the HJC helmet is sooo much louder due to less padding around the chin and loud venting. It's so loud that I can't use the HJC Smart 50B communication system because wind noise activates the VOX intercom even with the least sensitive settings. I have issue with my RPHA 91. The external shield slams shut at any speed over 45 mph. The retention keeping it open is weak. Have had numerous helmets over my 35 years of riding bikes and this is the first time I have run into this issue. I contacted HJC over a month ago, they sent message to quality control and after two follow up emails I sent I still have not received any further communication. Poor design and poor customer service.

      Also, instead of the D ring that I see in all the reviews is not the case with mine, I got the clip type chin strap which is bulky and I hate it.

      If you hear anything keep us posted, this was biggest issue with it as well. Strange how you didn't get a D-ring..

      @@WeRide2all HJC needs to do is to retool the mechanism which looks like it would be switchable if they were to send the replacement parts. Deeper notch for the fully opened position or stronger springs. Almost at the point where I may modify it myself….

      I also noticed this

      For thos issue is a easy fix but might bring other issues like the visor getting to stiff. You just have to put a rubber(cut a rubber gasket) behind the rachet system, depending on how stiff the rubber is the visor will be stiffer.

    Did you think that it was really quite? It was rated #1 for being quiet.

      Quiet for a modular.. But def not that quiet. All around solid helmet tho

      More quiet than the shoei RF1400?

    Ordered 2 and they both arrived with defect of the chin guard locking mecanism. On closed position it was wiggling about 4-6mm. Really desappointing!

      There is worst than that is life. I was just really disappointed because I was very excited for that helmet and a new one. Our riding season is short in Canada and I'm still stuck with my old helmet.

      @@WeRide2 Really... and make it 3 times now. Received the new one yesterday and still the same issue. I am either the most unlucky RPHA 91 buyer ever or someone is trolling me because nowhere I can find someone who faced the same issue with that helmet!

    I thought ls2 was intermediate oval not round

      @WeRide2  Před 3 měsíci

      It def fits like a round helmet. I love it but i can't wear it for long for that reason.

      @WeRide2 dang I'm really liking the price and features still a chunk of change. On something that may fit me like a round.

      Yeah that was my only gripe with the LS2, but go try it on...For me extended use created pressure on my forehead.

      @WeRide2 I been trying to find one local. My neck injuries wearing a full face is a literal pain. I don't need more lol.

      CycleGear locations have them and I believe most Harley Davidson Dealerships carry the LS2 as well. Or at least a variant of it.

    Shield slams shut at low speed. After a recent trip I learned the shield leaks during rain. None of our group who had different helmets had this issue. No support after 3 emails. Garbage helmet and absolutely no support from HJC.

    • @WeRide2
      @WeRide2  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Damn that sucks! I've been in some really bad storms and it hasn't leaked thru the shield. Customer support goes a long way....

      The shield leaking on HJC helmets unfortunately isn't something new. I remember returning the original RPHA and the RPHA EVO modular helmets due to a leaky visor. it was bad enough that I couldn't see during riding. also let a lot a dust in when in dusty conditions. Swore to myself I'd never get another HJC helmet, but this one does interest me. I remember Jorge Lorenzo who was sponsored by HJC at the time, complaining about their Helmets/visor when racing in the rain. He said something along the lines of criticising them for not being a 'premium' manufacturer.

    RPHA 91 is absolute garbage. I bought one and regretted it pretty soon thereafter.

    • @WeRide2
      @WeRide2  Před 7 měsíci +1

      what would be your choice looking back at that same price point?

    • @christofhuebner7841
      @christofhuebner7841 Před 7 měsíci

      To be honest, I would go with the old adage of “you get what you pay for”. So, I bought a Shoei GT Air and I am very happy with it. The HJC went back to Revzilla for refund/repair or replacement. However, I think that helmet has some inherent weaknesses, such as the visor mechanism which is too flimsy and broke after a few days of use.
