      The reflectors do a great deal to low-light/night visibility, but they can be done with modern materials that look awesome, and give a new life to the vehicle while a light is shining on them, so reflectors should still be mandatory, but you should be able to use more modern types that look better, like sticker type, wrap type, plastic embedded type, because, just in case your electrical system fails, or you are approached from an angle that doesn't have a light shining from your motorcycle, you can have your life saved by the reflectors.

      don't really need to worry about an inspection on a motorcycle in california unless your bike is 6 years or older. also cops here rarely pull over bikes with loud exhausts because this is normal with Harleys and they acknowledge that "loud pipes save lives". and when they try to pull over sportbike riders they just run lol

    The real reason most integrated turn signals are illegal isn't due to visibility. LED's are very bright and visible. It's because most states have laws about the distance between the signals. The right and left signals need to be far enough apart that it's clear which side they're on. From a distance, it can be hard to judge if it's the left or right signal when they're right next to each other like they are in an integrated tail light setup.

    I personally think the LED under glow lighting is a good idea for night riding (as long as it stays 1 solid color & doesn't flash or strobe) because it makes the motorcycle more visible in the dark. If you can see the bike better the less like you are to hit the rider, right?

    The reflectors are actually for when the bike is parked in the dark in a public space, or perhaps to simply be seen more easily from a side profile in general. Really kind of a specific law. Its the same for cars. I learned this when replacing the factory corner lights with built in reflectors on my 1990 Miata with aftermarket clear lens, LED lights with no reflectors. the website said theyre not street legal so i looked into it further. Also, in Pennsylvania, chassis lighting on bikes is legal but not on cars, because it allows the bikes to be seen more easily.

    I recently acquired a 2018 Kawasaki Vulcan S in exchange for a boat I never used. The first thing I did was to remove the sewing machine exhaust system and installed a CS Racing full exhaust. Removing the stock exhaust also removed the catalytic converter. The stock system is very heavy compared to the CS Racing exhaust. Never throw away or sell your factory exhaust system. Many motorcycle shops around my area won't buy or accept a motorcycle as a trade in without the factory exhaust system installed on the bike.

    Also have to remember that underglow kit laws vary from state to state. For instance, in NC, you can have them as long as they are a steady color, no breathing, pulsing or changing. And that steady color can't be red or blue. Yet in VA, underglow kits are not legal at all.

    Loud exhausts, and smaller than legal number (license) plates are something that the UK police like to issue tickets for. It is possible to remove the headlight from a bike, and for it to still be road legal. You can get something called a daytime MOT (Ministry of Transport Test). Which will allow you to ride your bike, normally a dirt bike, on the road during the hours of daylight only.

    • @kilerscn
      @kilerscn Před 3 měsíci +1

      Also, the reason for the plastic plate holder out the back is in some places (I think it is a Eurozone thing so Britain likely still has it too) is that the tyre cannot be the furthest back port of the vehicle, it has to have some body work / frame as the very end of the bike.
      Also in the UK you can ride without mirrors but if you do have just one it has to be on the left hand side.

    • @mickstafford456
      @mickstafford456 Před 3 měsíci

      You are correct about the plate holder. Euro, and UK, law state that the plate must be behind the rear tyre. However, in the UK at least, there is no requirement to have the plate mounted there for the MOT (roadworthiness test), and many people fit a tail tidy. In the UK, you can get a daytime only MOT. Which allows you to run a bike without, lights, mirrors or indicators. The bike is then road legal, for daytime hours only. It pretty much means that you can register a dirt bike, for road use, if you so desire. @@kilerscn

    Yes, I am late to this party, but I have had either purple or green underglow on my 3 bikes since the beginning of time. I did it for increased visibility as I worked nights and had to drive about an hour on the freeway. I've never been pulled over, even had a Sherriff pull up next to me at a light, and he just gave me a thumbs up.

    I had a blueish/purple colored headlight on a bike I owned when living in Nebraska. Didn’t get stopped, but did have a cop talk to me at a red light about it. He actually said it was a good idea, made me more visible at night since it wasn’t a normal white or yellow headlight. Surprisingly too, it gave off a decent amount of light too.

    In the UK my RM250 dirtbike only needs a horn, a brake light and a visible registration plate. Noise limits do technically apply but there's no emissions testing and even with a full fmf pipe and silencer it's still legal. The exhaust does have not for road use written on it, but so does the bike (which is now legally registered) so that doesn't apply. Also you do have to use DOT tyres(or tires) but they're pretty good. For some reason you can actually register and ride a quad bike without the brake light but that seems a bit dangerous for my liking(both because nobody knows you're slowing down and because quads are deathtraps🤣🤣)

    Neon underglow is usually legal. The laws on lights ban lights which shine to the front or back. The older laws don't ban lights which shine down. Some ban specific colors, so avoid those and you are fine.
    Not saying they are good, or that I use them, just that they are almost universally legal.
    Also, you will get pulled over for them.

    A few years ago I bought a used Kawasaki Mean Streak which had and incredibly loud aftermarket exhaust system. I was able to install oem cats and mufflers for almost nothing thanks to squids who immediately swap out their oem exhaust for noxious sound trumpets. Oh, and other than being much quieter, I couldn't tell any difference in performance. None. And it still had a pleasant low frequency rumble.

On the street, I don't want to draw the attention of every LEO in a 5 mile radius when I want to flirt with the red line. Plus, unless you get a dyno tune after installing that new exhaust, it will most certainly run better with a totally stock exhaust, and airbox if it has carbs.
