I bought this helmet based on reviews, its double D ring strap, and because it fits my head perfectly. Had I known how noisy (especially wind noise) it is I would probably not have bought it.
Every review I have seen has either been an advertisement to buy the helmet, or a love/hate this helmet because (insert random arbitrary reason here). I love the approach you guys have taken to helmet review giving a hard data analysis on things about the helmet that riders will care about.
Hello. Your reviews are very valuable and guiding. But I have a request from you. You should do noise tests with naked motorcycle. I bought Rpha 71 after watching your test. It is extremely noisy after 70 km/h when the ventilation is on. When the ventilation was closed, it was noisy after 100-110 km/h. I have a Yamaha Tracer 7 motorcycle and when I bought it, I optioned it with a long windshield. As you know, this touring glass is not as high as on GS motorcycles. For this reason, we cannot get the same result as your review measurements. Note: I purchased the helmet size according to my head measurement. Thank you very much.
Thanks for the support, and your feedback. We understand your point, but keep in mind that every helmet is tested behind a windshield, and gets the same noise advantage. If you ride a naked bike yourself, you should still be able to use our test scores as an indication of which helmets are quiet / louder, even though the exact decibel amount won't be the same.
Interesting review guys. Thumbs up for attention to detali and methodology. I would suggest two things though: 1. Weight of the helmet is directly dependent on whether it is equipped with sun visor or not (look at NXR vs RPHA71 200g difference which seems a lot until you realise Shoei doesn’t have sun visor) and 2. Number of shell sizes doesn’t necessarily goes with helmets safety… no one ever testes it, it’s rather comfort feature… ( I think no one considers Schubert as a non safe helmets while still they only have two shell sizes and as far as I know they don’t even share this info anywhere). Good luck and keep going- look forward for Schubert S3 review!😊
Thank you for your in depth comment. It's true that leaving out a sun-visor makes the helmet lighter, so it earns more starts on the weight. But on the other hand, it will miss out on those stars on the visor part, so this is compensated. We put them in this review because the manufacturer positions them as a Sport-Touring helmet, so we therefor compare them with their direct competitors. Where it benefits from this (weight) it ends up at the bottom where it doesn't deliver (Visor) as you can see in this video. Basically this means that having/not having a sunvisor doesn't lead to an advantage/disadvantage in our reviewing method. About helmet shells in relation to safety. Allthough my colleague mentions it in the video, having more or less helmet shells is not rewarded/penalized for safety. Helmet shells indeed is mainly a comfort/weight/road behavior thing. Allthough there is always room for improvement, I hope this reply shows that we did put quite some though in it. Thank you for your comment. We appreciate your feedback!
Sorry, gotta call B.S. on some of these claims. -the noise isolation isn’t great. Lots of road and wind noise. I’ve had to adjust the visor several times due to whistling. -on a hot day this helmet heats the noggin up. Yes, there is some air flow with the vents open but not enough. -the padding is nice until you remove it for cleaning. Then the nightmare begins, the cheap snaps don’t hold once they’ve been Ü clipped. -the Sena system designed for this helmet is dismal, I can barely hear it. When installed it pushes the padding out creating pressure on the ears. I’m hoping the thinner pads I ordered will change this painful situation. And maybe they’ll even stay snapped in place 🤞 -I have a 3/4 helmet with a partial visor that is quieter, lighter, and cost 1/3 of this HJC lemon! -btw, I don’t have a windscreen. Maybe it fares better with a bike that has a windshield but it floors me that my Classic Aviator 3/4 helmet is superior to this one…
I've seen a number of reviews saying that helmet causes a lot of wind noise and the cause is the sunvisor mechanism, if you tape this up then it stops the noise. Is this something that you have come across in your test?

I love your video but for poor reasons I will beg that you test out the HJC i71 as well in the next months, really interested in its sound reduction + it comes premade for the same intercom as the RPHA 71
I just bought a Hjc RPHA 71 because I wanted a touring helmet with a visor and because having had a RPHA 70 I was expecting an even quieter helmet. For now, I've only done 200 km on it, but I've found myself with a very, very noisy helmet, perhaps more than the RPHA 11 that I usually use and which is a track helmet. Aesthetically beautiful (pearl white), the sun visor is excellent, no sail effect when turning the head, visor unlocking laborious with gloves, heavy (but I already knew it) but for now not excessively tiring. Considering that it has been studied in the wind tunnel, I am greatly disturbed by the excessive noise in the lower part, where there are black plates especially on the lever side of the visor. Anyone with my same impressions?

@Championhelmets one simple addition I would make is a vents closed noise analysis. While being a less important data point, it would be something that can be added with minimal effort and no additional cost, and is something that consumers might care about.
Anyone else own's this helmet? I've been using it for 2 months and wind noise is ridiculously louder than my older AGV K3 SV Helmet. I wear ear plugs no matter what but I still can hear it more prominently than my older helmet.

Потому что я только что ехал в icon airflite и ни какого шума не было! Я крайне удивлен и разочарован! Мой рост 183см и у меня стандартное ветровое стекло, стояло в верхнем положение, но в этом шлеме даже на 40км/ч начинается звук как - вуг-вуг-вуг и так постоянно. Когда встаю на подножках всё пропадает. Поставил стекло в нижние продолжение, стало лучше, но так не возможно открыть визор. Я думаю это чёртовы воздушные завихрения, но почему их абсолютно не было в icon? Я в замешательстве.
I think the temp comparison stats aren't very relevant unless you measure them all the same outside temperature. You measured the Shoei at 26 degrees Celsius in a previous review and use that data as a comparison against this helmet, measured at 16 d. Celsius.

I think the RPHA 70 was better in practicality though. I prefer a centred visor lift for ease to use both hands, the chin vent on the 71 looks dumb in comparison, the inbuilt sena is a big downside aswell as it leaves no options for alternatives. Yes it’s slightly safer than the 70 but the practicality is a huge downgrade and I can’t see this being anywhere near as popular
Thanks for the video. It’s really helpful. But I am confused with rpha 71 and 70 carbon. I would like to know the following. 1) Is the windscreen visor quality better than the rpha 70 carbon? 2) how big is a difference in sun visor and anti fog lens compared to rpha 70 carbon? 3) Will it be east to install the Cardo packtalk bold unit on the rpha 71? Rpha 70 carbon had ticked all my boxes but when I saw this new helmet video I got confused. Carbon is still better than fibreglass but is it worth getting the new rpha 71 instead of the rpha 70 carbon? After 2024 only ece 22.06 helmets will be sold mandatory but I can still ride with ece 22.05. Also I am mostly tourer and weekend rider. Not going to use the helmet on track. Please let me know. It would be a great help.
@@davidmartinez927 Hi David, I don’t see much difference in the wind noise. I have Cardo installed on it. My old helmet is LS2 Challenger GT Carbon. I feel Rpha a bit heavier compared to my old helmet. But the visor quality is much better compared to LS2. Also, on my bike I felt some wind buffering on helmet corners at high speeds. Cardo sound quality and headphone placement is much better than LS2. I would say the vents ventilation are extremely good. I never felt air directly on my forehead ever before on any helmet. Overall a really good helmet but it’s carbon variant in future would be much better.
This HJC versus the Scorpion EXO 1400 EVO carbon what is the best ? because both make 97DB and on the final review scorpion have 5 stars and hjc 4... scorpion is lighter but the overall quality HJC is better ?
I'd take the HJC primarily because it meets the new ece 22.06 safety standard. My head is priceless. Plus but seems to be more comfortable so it wins on that.

It meets ece 22.06 anything more is expensive destructive testing. All helmets that meet this requirement from the older 22.05 standard are one of the safest helmets you can get. All helmets are supposed to be rigorously tested for ece certification. If not.. well that's a big problem. As for DOT USA standards, well any CZcams (fortnine is a good one) video will tell you it's a joke. If you can fork out the money, a helmet that meets FIM certification (moto gp race track safety) is likely the maximum safety you can get outside of not riding at all lol.

Agree that the reviewer talks way too fast. Im fortunately use to dutch people trying to to speak english , but even I as a Dutchman have some trouble following him as he swallows up the words. Great helmet and review tho. 👍

Weird, i have nothing bad to say about my HJC. Its quiet and doesnt heat.

I found out that their noise level value are just not true at all. Bought GT-AIR II, its loud as fuck, much more then my old rpha 70.

I have test it in static, big issue is the visor: it doensn't stay in place from 1/4 to full open. also the join is too hard to asure etancheity.

Hello Soulia, the communication systems by HJC are fully integrated and the communication system by cardo are not fully integrated but usable.
The helmet seems a little bit too heavy for me, will there be a carbon version available?
The RPHA 70 had a carbon version but we don't know yet, for now it is only the fiberglass version.
