The 1969 Chevelle was the second year of this generation, but it continued to be America’s “Most Popular Mid-Sized” car. It featured small changes from the 1968 model. The SSTM 396 was a $347.60 option package and the 396 c.i. was rated at 325 horsepower in the basic package.
The Chevelle stayed in the Chevy line up until 1978. But in 1969 it was the height of the Muscle Car wars and the Chevelle was the king of the hill. In fact, you could order a special 396 c.i. with up to 375 horsepower. There were also dealer specials under the “COPO” program, which added to the Chevelle reputation as the best muscle car.

Fully detailed 396 c.i. V-8 engine.
Choice of Ralley or Magnum wheels and separate frame structure.
Tampo Printed Tires
Waterslide decal includes multiple pin stripe color options.

The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile which was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year, and Lagunas from 1973 through 1976. After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964. The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall. The Malibu, the top of the line model through 1972, completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate for the redesigned, downsized 1978 model year.
1969 Chevelles were billed as "America's most popular mid-size car." They showed only minor changes for 1969, led by revised front-end styling. A single chrome bar connected quad headlights (which became a familiar Chevrolet trademark) with a revised front grille, now cast in ABS plastic, and a slotted bumper held the parking lights. Taillight lenses were larger and more vertical, flowing into the quarter panels. Smaller side marker lighting bezels were phased in (shared with the Camaro and using the lens assembly as the previous year). Front vent windows (hardtop and convertibles only) began to fade away now that Astro Ventilation (first introduced on the 1966 Buick Riviera which was used a year earlier on the Camaro and Caprice) was sending outside air into several Chevelle models. The Chevelle lineup slimmed down to Nomad, 300 Deluxe/Greenbrier, Malibu/Concours, and Concours Estate series, and the base 300 series was history. No longer a series of its own, the SS 396 turned into a $347.60 option package for any two-door model. That meant not just a convertible, sport coupe, or pickup, but even the pillared coupe and sport coupe in the lower-rent 300 Deluxe series (except the base 300 Deluxe El Camino pickup). Fewer SS396-optioned 300 Deluxe coupes and sport coupes were built than their Malibu counterparts and they are solid gold for collectors. The Super Sport option included a 325-horsepower 396-cubic-inch V8 beneath a double-domed hood, along with a black-out grille displaying an SS emblem and a black rear panel. More potent editions of the 396 engine also made the options list, developing 350 or 375 horsepower (280 kW). SS396s produced from this point on shared the same VIN prefix with the Malibu sport coupe (136), with the exception of the 300 Deluxe based SS396s using (134), where the original buildsheet and/or Protect-O-Plate (which is an aluminum tag included with the original sales invoice from Chevrolet dealers) can ID a genuine SS (especially for a numbers matching original which is unaltered); however, the VIN number alone cannot ID a genuine SS as in previous years. Around an estimated 323 Chevelle 2-door hardtops were fitted with an L72 427 cu in (7.0 L) rated at 425 bhp (431 PS; 317 kW) at 5,800 rpm and 460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m) at 4,000 rpm of torque, where some Chevrolet dealers used the Central Office Production Order (this also included some Camaros and Novas of the same model year) - some COPOs were sold through select Chevrolet dealerships and out of the 323 COPO orders, a confirmed 99 were sold through the Yenko Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg, PA. During the 1969 model year a police package (RPO B07) was available on the Chevelle 300 Deluxe 4-door sedan where some were optioned with the RPO L35 (396) motor along with a boxed frame (also shared with fleet orders e.g. taxicabs and rental cars); at the time the police option was reintroduced since the 1964/65 model years (at the time midsize squads came with economy powertrain usually in the case of the Chevelle a third generation Chevrolet inline six. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Revell had a great idea on the under hood insulation decals.
I thought the same thing when I seen the decal sheets
I'm sorry who in the heck disliked this vid? Idk why loved the music while painting the frame felt really relaxing.
LOL, haters gonna hate man. We'll keep having fun!
They must be miserable living in their parents basements.
My best friend in HS had a 69 SS El Camino with the 396. It was actually bored out to a 403 for 69. I had a 67 Camaro RS and we'd take his car when we needed a working heater.haha
396 was only for the ad campaign.
Revelle has always been my favorite because of the detail they put in alot their models.. great build and review, I definitely want this kit.
Not to mention the instructions and the way they fall together
My friend that I mentioned in my Facebook post had built a 71 Hemi Cuda and a 70 442 that he painted in Testors Champagne Gold Metallic. My 2 favorite kits he built. Love that color.
I'm not much of a Chevy guy, but I still enjoy watching your paint montages. I especially love how 95% of your builds are rattle can builds. I don't have a wide variety of nearby hobby outlets, so this channel has really expanded my horizons lol. Chris, if you do happen to see this comment, I apologize if you see multiple posts from me on your Facebook page. I had just hit send with my project pics when I got your auto reply in Messenger. I then tried to post to the page and thought my device was having technical difficulties lol. It is apparently obsolete and doesn't cooperate lol.
No worries, I'll look at that page later today, thanks for contributing!
I'm glad to watch your videos. I can't build during the summer because of the heat and humidity. I have to paint in my garage and the weather destroys my paint jobs. Keep up the good work!
Very nice build. You do great work. I used to build my models like this when I was 12-15 years old. That was 45 years ago. I always tried to make every detail perfect otherwise I didn't see the point of building them. I used to also add micro-bulbs to light up all the body and dash lights. It would be easier to do that now with the tiny LEDs. I had collected about 60 cars but now only have 2 left. A black '58 Thunderbird and a green '55 Chevy Bel-air with gold/white interior. One day back in '76, I came home from school and discovered that my mom had given all my cars away to her friend's kids without even asking me. She literally just scooped them up and piled them on top of each other in a big cardboard box. You can imagine how I felt. I never built another model. I do still enjoy seeing models built by others.
You really knocked this one out of the park!!!,i ordered a couple yesterday even though i told myself not to!!!!
Brings back memories......back in the day we had a neighbor with a silver CHEVELLE SS....way cool kit/build
Chris, I very rarely build a kit right out of the box. I am usually building a "kit bash" of a car with parts from different kits. But when I am building one of your video's is always playing. The music is very calming, soothing but even more so is your methods are an inspiration and your words of wisdom "build for you" etc give me confidence! Thank you for being the best in your class!
Thanks for watching, much appreciated!
Thx once again for the 30 minutes of model zen! I work nights on a hotel, during the slow times, and there are many, I just love to veg out, watch you build, get some helpful hints and techniques, and just unwind from the pressures of the world. I LOVE the body color on this one- you don't see a lot of nice soft gold cars. You definately did this one justice! Revell never ceases to impress, and neither do you!! :)
Thanks for watching, I worked maintenance in a hotel in the mid 90s, it was a boring job with lots of downtime, I agree!
@@hpiguy I love my job, they just won't let me build models! LOL
The the wheels you picked out and that champagne gold for the body color. Fantastic build as always have a great weekend
Wine me
Dine me
Chevy Chevelle '69 me
😏
MAN!! What a FINE 69!! Love the musclecar builds!! YEAHHHH!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
A GORGEOUS build!!.. Impressively detailed Kit and Build!!.. Keep up the great work Bud!!
This is a lot better than the kit I built in my teens of the one my dad had when I was a kid. Might have to build a new kit. His was a malibu with a hopped up 427 in front of a powerglide. Red 2 door with a black vinyl interior and roof. Grew up with his street racing the thing and it would drag the rear bumper on launch if you didn't know what you were doing.
Great decision on the body color. Everyone does black, red, blue, orange but the color you choose is different and looks awesome. Absolutely a terrific job and sometimes I also do silver on the sway bars and it may or may not be factory but the detail looks great. Great job as always brother. Everyone stay safe and healthy and remember to smile and have fun.
Thanks as always Teddy!
I'm soooooooo happy that you did this review of the Revell 1969 Chevelle !!! Thanks a bunch and what an awesome job !!!
GOD Bless !!!!
😇👍🏼😇👍🏼😇👍🏼😇👍🏼
Glad it was helpful!
WOW! Now that is the way all kits should be made to assemble. The way the motor attaches is great. And other things like the way shocks and springs are....
Right on!
LOVE the build. I just ordered this kit. Can’t wait to build it.
I have to say you have really steady hands. My compliments
Wow, I saw the ad for your video multiple times before I dropped in and watched. I skipped it often 'cause I said, "aww, there's lots of vids about '69 Chevelles on CZcams"(had one, medium metallic blue, SS 396) THEN, I realized the pic was of a model!!! Wow, I REALLY thought it was a pix of REAL car. WELL DONE!!
Thanks Michael!
@@hpiguy I almost always try to buy Fujimi and Tamiya models for the accuracy and detail, so, I'm enthused that Revell is using new pressings that show excellent detail and content. Gonna check out their muscle and pony cars again. Thanks, gonna watch all yer vids.
I'm REALLY intrigued by yer use of Rustoleum paints. Never seen that. I didn't think you could get that layer thin enough, figuring it would mask detail on the plastic piece.
I had a 72 Camaro, Placer Gold Metallic with a white interior, vinyl top and pin stripes. Lots of good memories in that car!
I can't wait to get my hands on that kit. Wow!
Again the detail painting so satisfying. Catch tons of tips from your videos. Thanks man👍
Sharp looking tires and decals!!
HI, that was a nice treat. Always enjoy to see a nice new build. You never know what will be the next one. Nothing like the smell of a brand new kit when you first open up the box. I love that smell. What a nice build, great job. I really like the color combination you picked out. The interior looks great. I never used black primer to paint white. I think I will try it to see how it comes out on an interior. Thank you so much. I remember these cars when they were brand new. I had a 1969 340 Dodge Dart and I raced these SS 396 Chevelles. On the street and on the 1/4 mile drag strips. I took the engine out of my car and did it up big time. I turned low to mid 10's in the Quarter mile at 135 to 140 miles an hour at the end. I usually won a lot of the races. The weelies were a bit freekie. Scrapped the back bumper once. I was in C modified class. I got the power from the ballanced and blue printed work, the over bored cylinders, big race cam, 1080 cfm Holly carb, and the super high compression pistons. It had a 390 rear that helped a lot. Kept pulling more and more even at 7800 RPM. I could have gone up to 9000 RPM but never did. Looking for the next one, see you soon.
Nice build review. I like how you are extending the “rock video” section to include the detail painting (brush painting). Keep up the excellent work.
Love this!! I have an old amt 69 that I've been acquiring aftermarket parts for. Now I may buy this Revell kit to finally build a replica of my Dads 69 SS!!
This is one of my favorites!
Excellent job, the color scheme is perfect! Looking forward to the Chevy truck!
I wish revell would make the 71 Chevelle. Love the round taillights in the chrome bumpers. Looks so much better than the square taillights on the early years
Very nice build! Always enjoy your subtle weatherings, washes, and little details.
Can't wait to build it. Great build Chris
Chris,what a Beautiful built,you keep amazing me,this is absolutely gorgeous 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Nice work for sure. Some of the photos at the end looks like the real thing
Great build! This kit looks a lot better than what I had when we were kids! Even has stabilizer bars, separate interior side panels a nicely detailed big block... Nice choice of rally and magnum 500' white lettered tires... Cool stuff!
Right on!
CHEERS On the Champagne Chevrolet! It looks fantastic! You model building Feind! 😉
Lovely work, thanks for posting!!!
A wonderful build. Thank you for doing the step by step. It's helpful for us newbies. I actually just bought this car to build. This was helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
As always an excellent build! Thanks for sharing. Keep em coming.
Can we see some of your collection and how you display them please?? 😊 👍 👍
Excellent build Chris! I love your color choices!! Great presentation! !
Beautiful chevelle I remember my dad telling me thats his favorite year of chevelle
Thanks!
Wow Chris that looks like a REAL car in those finals! Holy cow is that awesome. I love my Mopars but that Chevelle is gorgeous! Great work Chris!!
My favorite year. Another great job. Love the wheels too.
Great video the models you build are always so detailed
Nice build. Looks cool in that color. Thanks for sharing Chris
I just bought mine and I'm in awe over the detailing to which is actually no surprise coming from Revell; it's far better than the AMT '69 Chevelle SS that I was originally going to enhance with the interior chassis and engine from Revell's '72 Olds Cutlass Convertible but now... hmmm!
Enjoy!
Bad ass nicely built beautiful color interior design color stands out what more can I say .
Thank you for showing some of your hand detail techniques. Should help me out moving forward. Great job, and thanks again.
You are so welcome!
Can't wait to build this one👍
I just got my copy in the mail can't wait to build it just deciding what color to paint it
Awesome car and awesome build 👍 can't wait to see the next build great job brother
Chris as always awesome build keep up the great work
Beautiful built ! Awesome detailing ! Congratulations ! Regards from Brazil ! Henrique 😊👍
Great job! Nice to see a factory fresh car from you and the Champagne Gold is actually a nice shade for the Chevelle, and not one i'd have thought of. You've also inspired me to buy a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I saw you review a while back, and give it my first attempt at weathering.
I love those metallic sharpies… I thought I found out something original. 😂😂
396 was a monster.
Beautiful build - as always.
Thanks 👍
Man, thats a beautiful kit. Nice work sir!
That looks fantastic, great color and I liked the options you chose for this kit. Too bad there was not a freebie in this kit like
the engine and stand you found in the Nova. Oh well, still a good kit. Thanks for sharing it with us. Take care, be well and stay safe.
Great kit Chris,...lots of extras !!
Sure is!
Looks very nice - good color - thanks for a great build.
Nice job on the small fine details too!!
Beautiful car !! Great work man!
Awesome as always! Great work!!
Wow that looks very nice nice work on the details.

Excellent episode!
Super Awesome Build Chris! I have this kit already ! But I am anxious to build it now!
Hope you enjoy it!
Beautiful color combo. I like the details you did on this one.
Thank you so much!
Nice model, beautiful rendition! I too love those wheels. I can imagine the conversation at the kitchen table.
Mom: OK, I've given this a lot of thought, and you can get the '69 Chevelle SS.
Dad: Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Son, from upstairs: Groovy!
Mom: But I pick the color...
Dad is thinking, Chevelle SS, red, blue, black, how bad can it be...
Fantastic Chevelle build Chris! Love the colors!
Thanks a bunch!
This is one of my favorite models. The details are amazingly accurate, and I agree, the Chevy SS wheels do look best.
Awesome looking kit and awesome build! A friend of mine's wife had a green one w\all black interior back in the day. I'm thinking about doing something similar when I get mine.
Enjoy!
Great paint scheme love it great detail Chris as usual thank you for sharing got to get one lol
You are the master of details, congrats! Recently I finished a '68 version of the chevelle and it's pretty similar to the '69 version. As soon as I can I will get it too. Regards from Puerto Rico!
Wow, thanks!
love this build.... first muscle car i ever drove was a 69 396
Looks badass in that color!
Just love that colour, looks outstanding
I’ve been waiting for this kit
You and me both.
Still have both my AMT 69 SS Chevelles. Hardtop and conv.
I swear you make it so easy
Nice build.
i love the color...cant wait to see the monster truck!
Oh yeah man, that is badass brother! Love my old “Bowties”! Great job buddy as always!
Loved this build great job on it
Thank you!
Really nice looking model, you make it look easy!
Thank you! Cheers!
cool looking build. great job
Excellent awesome superb outstanding job on the model.
Great kit!!!!!!!!
Those tires are beautiful. I'm gonna make mine a Yenko
Nice,i enjoyed this and noce detail. Thanks
Great build as always the level of detail is unsurpassed…
Thank you so much 😀
Awesome build!
The front sway bar and tie rods you painted silver are somewhat accurate. From stock, they were like a bare steel color. Nicely done build. I wouldn’t mind building up a silver SS with black stripes and interior.
Awesome build
I like the new addition of the’69 Chevelle SS kit there’s just one thing that isn’t quite right the rally wheels are the’68 wheels not the ones that the’70 has because those are the correct ones so if you have any of the ‘70 kits snag the rally wheels and the new kit will have the proper wheels
I can’t wait to see the 1932 Chrysler imperial!
