Plymouth Belvedere is a series of American automobile models made by Chrysler from 1954 to 1970 that were marketed under the Plymouth brand.
The Belvedere name was first used for a new hardtop body style in the Plymouth Cranbrook line for the 1951 model year. In 1954 the Belvedere replaced the Cranbrook as the top trim and became a full model line with sedans, station wagons and convertible body styles. The Belvedere continued as Plymouth's full-sized car until 1965, when it became an intermediate, and was replaced after the 1970 model year by the Satellite, a name originally used for the top-trim level Belvederes.
Introduced on March 31, the 1951 Plymouth Cranbrook Belvedere is a two-door pillarless hardtop. It was Plymouth's first such body design and was introduced in response to the 1950 Chevrolet Bel Air, and the Ford Victoria, the first two-door hardtop in the low-priced American market.
The Cranbook Belvedere was the name for the two-door hardtop version of the Cranbrook and built on the same 118.5 in (3,010 mm) wheelbase. Powering the Belvedere is the Chrysler flathead 217.8 cu in (3.6 L) straight-6 engine with a 7.00:1 compression ratio producing 97 hp (72 kW; 98 PS) (SAE gross).
For 1952, Plymouth kept the Cranbrook Belvedere largely unchanged. The biggest alteration was to the color scheme; to further distinguish the top-level Belvedere from other Plymouths, the two tones now flowed from the roof over the beltline onto the trunk, which has been referred to as the "saddleback" treatment. Two-tone color schemes were "sable bronze" over suede, black over "mint green", and gray over blue. Overdrive was made available as optional equipment in the 1952 Plymouth. In overdrive, the engine made three revolutions for each rear wheel revolution and four without overdrive. The engine was a complete carryover from 1951. Production for 1951 and 1952 totalled 51,266 units.
The Belvedere remained a part of the Cranbrook series through the 1953 model year, which saw all Plymouth models completely restyled. Major style changes include a shorter 114 in (2,900 mm) wheelbase, a one-piece windshield, flush rear fenders, and a lower hood line. In April 1953, Plymouths received the Hy-Drive semi-automatic transmission. The engine was carried over from 1952 with the only enhancement being a slight increase in the compression ratio to 7.10:1, which yielded a rating of 100 hp (75 kW).
A total of 35,185 1953 Belvederes were sold.
The 1962 model year full-size Plymouths were "downsized", with more compact outside dimensions. American car buyers at the time were in the thought mode of "bigger is better", and sales of these models suffered. However, the smaller Plymouth provided greater owner approval in their actual use.[11] A Plymouth Belvedere with six-cylinder engine and automatic transmission was compared to the intermediate-size Ford Fairlane and the compact-size Chevrolet Chevy II in an economy test by Popular Mechanics and the road test concluded that the Belvedere was "a very pleasant transportation package."[12] Another advantage of the smaller and lighter body was in drag racing.
The 1963 and 1964 models used the same unibody platform as the 1962s, but were restyled to look longer and wider.
The 1964 Belvedere (and corresponding Fury hardtop coupes) featured a new "slant-back" roofline that proved to be popular, and sales improved significantly over the previous design.
The 1964 Belvedere was also the car used to introduce the 426 Chrysler Hemi engine, which used a canted large-valve arrangement. This was such a significant high-RPM breathing improvement that Hemi-equipped Plymouth Belvederes won first, second, and third at NASCAR's 1964 Daytona race. One of the winning drivers was Richard Petty. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
The background stories for why your models are built the way they are, are great. I wonder if the complainers ever watch/listen to your video to the end. You know, where you say "to build them the way you want to".
It amazes me how good this man can make a kit look with just sharpies and craft paint
Yes!
ManFred TheLast Dont forget the Floor Wax trick he does too! Makes the paint look deep and the windows like glass
Just goes to show you don't need a lot of high end paints and tools to finish a model up- just about everything you need can be found around the house or in the craft section at Wal Mart. Why give companies like Tamiya top dollar for the same tools you'll find over in hardware or in health and beauty! :) Spend that extra money you save on another kit! :)
He's a professional builder.
Good to know that such kind of modelling still exists, nowadays it tends to be highly equipment focused, beginners also think they need all those fancy airbrushes and name brand paint, ect... This is what modelling suppose to be, pure fun, creativity and improvisation... :)
This kit was also used as a Richard petty stock car. Thats also why there are holes in the interior pan for the roll cage
Yes it was Andrew.
Also why one side of the door panels is flat with no details
I was 17 and a friend's older pal bought a BRAND NEW 64 Belvedere with the HEMI. Gas gauge needle moved as fast as the speedo. What a rush. Very nice build. Keep the stories - builds - coming. Thanks.
Mid 60s mopars are awesome can't get enough of these cars love the way it looks just enough rust to make it look like it's been stored for 40 years great job thanks for showing it.
Build from your heart and you can not go wrong.
Exactly!
Love the ol' 64 Plymouth!!! 👍👍👍
The 426 wedge engine was a beast, old man had one swapped into a Jensen Interceptor he brought back from the UK when he was in the military
Really nice build, I was surprised at how nice it came out and with the spare motor it would work well with a diarama too. Great work, love your videos.
Had this kit in 2009 when it was labeled Lindbergh/Model King...stupidly sold it. Now I can buy this one
Love how you do your builds and the thought of what the owner is thinking and how you tell the story! Awesome job and love the weathering and detail
Nice job. I actually owned the Dodge version of this '64. It had the slant six, and it was the slowest thing I've ever driven!
Yet another great build/review. Couldn’t wait to see this one. Yes, the door panels are for multiple Mopar interiors of that time. The Color Me Gone Dodge 330 particularly, uses the “smooth” door panels.
Anyway, I love the mild weathered flavor with the Slant six. Very cool!
Great imagination 👍 love your back stories into the owners of the cars😀😀🤣
Glad you enjoyed it!
Once again Chris is the master at what he does!
The smooth door panels are indeed for a race version. Another awesome build sir!
Fantastic build! The 426 was known as the 426 Street Wedge.
I love the detail in this kit and then you add in the detail you put in to it and it makes an awesome build. 2 thumbs up on the kit and your representation of how it can be built. Great review.
Looks good. Love the weathering.
Looks amazing, great job as usual!
The 64 Belvedere is a great kit & you did it justice. Nice job! Thanks Chris.
Your tutorials are extremely helpful!!! I thank you and appreciate you for taking the time.
You are so welcome!
Just the right amount of weathering , great build Chris
Thanks 👍
Thanks I started my model Monday it looks like real car like always you do a real nice job
Thanks for sharing from a friend in Canada Rob ✌
Always a blast to watch your builds! I purchased this kit the other day and can't wait to build.
Great job it looks awesome as always brother. Expertly done detail work. Thank you for sharing. Hope everyone is doing great, staying safe and healthy. REMEMBER TO SMILE AND HAVE FUN
I just picked up one of these cars and I’m going to be using the custom chrome wheels and tires from the Moebius ‘71 Ford Ranger XLT kit. I removed the posts at the rear of the door, to convert the car into a hardtop.
Didn't think it possible, but you exceeded here your already high standard for superior craftsmanship. Thanks for once again showing how weathering can be done well without huge effort or expense.
Excellent superb outstanding perfect fantastic great eye popping incredible jaw dropping amazing beautiful job you did on that amazing model keep up the good work thank you for your expertise.
Turned out good, real authentic looking 🥇
Amazing job! I find your videos very relaxing. I haven't built a model in many years but with my first son on the way I think I may be getting back into it!
You can do it!
Damn! He makes this look WAY easier than I know it is! I have been building models since the mid-1980’s and this puts my stuff to shame. Loved watching this! Thanks for the tips, techniques, and supplies.
I just built my own version of that car and just loved it. It gave me ideas on how I could build one or two more of them. Not one of my best builds, but I sure did have a blast building it.
I have more Mopars than any other cars and l have a lot of models built. I'm getn this next time l go to HL. Keep building man, gets me motivated and this is a beauty.
Another great build chris awesome detail love the 2 motor package
As always Chris you don't disappoint. I really enjoyed this build. I like your back story of the guy getting grandma's old car and making it his by his plans of taking out the old "leaning tower of power " and dropping that 426. This would be awesome done up as a sleeper also
Really awesome build Chris! Totally dig your weathering/aging tips as always! I agree that this is a detailed and excellent fiting kit, especially the slant six. I build mine as a six cylinder drag racer. Outstanding presentation my friend!
Lovely result Chris 👍
Very nice. Great job. Lots of fun.👏👍
Thank for sharing your build a friend from canada Rob ✌
Yes, the plain door panels were used on the 426 Max Wedge Super Stock version that came without a back seat and smooth door panels with black plain steel wheels. I really enjoy watching how you do all the amazing details and love the stories that goes along with each build!
Awesome! I was just looking for more used looking models, and happened to find this by chance. Really makes it look more real.
Been thinking of starting modelling again, last time I did was in late 90s, just been pondering between spray paints or investing into an airbrush.
Cool, thanks!
Very cool model. Looks great. Looked like a super fun build. Very nice.
Awesome build!!
Hello, nice job. The one I did was the first issue and I think it had a radio in it. I used the 426 and used the cross ram intake 2, 4 barrel intake from the 1949 mercury kit from AMT and posted it on a web site and got 5 stars for it and great reviews. It is black with a red interior like the one I saw on the inter net I really like your build. thank you very much for it.
Another great build. I really enjoy the back stories you give these cars
Glad you enjoy it!
Another beauty Chris, these are nice kits.
MORE BEANS Chris !! Perfect EVERYTHING. Looking Forward to The Jolly Green Ford Build. Thanks Again For Sharing n God Bless All.
Chris, your weathering skills are top notch and something I aspire to. I know your closing monologue regarding haters was directly aimed at that person who trolled your videos just to spread negativity. As I said on your Facebook page, you have far more fans than haters and we all enjoy your work and content! Your channel brought me back to the hobby, which is why I post my project progress on your page. Once I get past my guitar business venture, I will be back on my models and currently have a couple new projects in the works soon. One of which is gonna be the International Payhauler 350 that I know is a upcoming video and build from you (I very much look forward to that!). Just remember to paint that Detroit hot pink (I mean Detroit Alpine Green) so the Bus Grease Monkey doesn't haunt your dreams lololol.
Yup, I just like poking the bear now and then to let them know the fun continues!
Looks fantastic as usual! I used the slant 6 from the older version of this kit in the recent 78 Dodge long bed pickup.
Best Dodge slant 6 out there Jim.
Beautiful!
Built this recently. A friend's mom had one like this when I was a kid. Painted it the same light blue. Wish it had a column shift for the stock slant 6, I had to fashion one. Otherwise, a lot of fun! Loved that it had a radio delete plate in the interior.
that is somethibng i agree with you on, no column shift for the slant six
Awesome looking build
Nice work on this one. I really love how this kit is laid out. Love the engine options. It would be nice if there were a couple of wheel and tire options, but there is always the aftermarket. Lol.
Great video and beautiful looking build, as always!
Need to get a few of these, sleeper, pure stock, ratty....so many ideas, so little time! 🤜🏻🤛🏻🍻😆😂
Great looking car love it yes those back side of door panels are for racing
Correct. Race version where you can paint aluminum as a plated interior. Great build as always.
Looks Great use a lot of your tips used blue tape like u did on the ford gasser to chrome trim the sides of my 1958 - 300 helps when hands not steady they made the 426 wedge & Max wedge with 2-4 s cross ram & Hemi , My buddy had a cross-ram dodge 330
I did a version of this kit end of 2019.... Best kit iv ever built yet.did it as an early drag/funny car style and its truly amazing.
It's always been my go to kit also on those subjects Adam.
I've been doing model, since I was a kid won't say my age but believe me I built alot but I like watching your show I've learnt a lot of new thing's from the show keep up the good work my friend.
Good work man just started waching you best model builder i seen yet
Once again great story and build.... you know what think of your work....so carry on! My Friend 😊👍
Nice model looks cool.

Nice Chris, as always brother!
He tells the owner's bio! Kool!
Awesome job.
My grandparents had a 63 Belvedere!
fabulous, looks great
Thank you! Cheers!
Great job, love your work. And you make this hobby fun and I enjoy doing them for myself, like you say do it for yourself have fun 🇺🇸👍👍...
Thanks, will do!
Wow Wow Wow another amazing kit lots of detail and a nice shape car you yanks have some awesome cars can’t wait for the next one I’m a gasser nut
great presentation.
Love the color, nice work, love the rusty work.Beautiful job😎love the vids, thanks
Glad you like them!
Looks really cool,i like your build.i have some of these from the past,il like how you built this one , great work.
Awesome Chris
glad you decided to do this kit, it is very similar to the richard petty kit that i bought years ago but did not build, i still have the dash insert from that kit, that kit came with the hemi, but it seems to me that there was some difference, that being the door panels, seems to me that in that kit the window cranks were on the chrome tree, and there were recesses in the door panels that could be painted body color for that super stock drag car, nice thing though i can cut them off and make the recesses with a drill bit, sadly, in the changeover, amt did not include the racing exhaust that was in the lindberg version, they are almost identical, and i wish i could find the richard petty version to kit bash with this one, ( i have three) so i could make a drag car with a hemi, a max wedge car, with this ones included 426 wedge, and a grandmas grocery getter like us older guys would have gotten for high school daily drivers, as usual, nice job on this
Sweet little car! Love the idea that it's a slant six car getting ready to be turned into a hotrod !
Oh yeah!
I remember riding in the back of my dad's Belvedere, probably in '67 or '68. It was rusted so badly I could see the road through the floor in the back seat.
My uncle had a Pinto like that, and you could also see down through the shifter too.
AMT round 2 had this 64 Belvedere.. Lawman. The door panels came in the Lawman kit, which was a super stocker, oh, I see it goes back to the Richard Petty kit..nice stuff!
The four spd or three spd bell housings were painted engine color, the automatic bell housings were unpainted or silver, I’m not a rivet counter, but some things I like to be close to correct, but it’s your model and I like your work and I’m subbed.
Cool kit Chris, if one is very careful, one can cut the other door cranks from the other side of the door panels & use them on another kit perhaps.........if I could, with a very sharp #11 blade, I would consider it.
I love it!!!
Wow, AMT has really been adding to the catalog (or is that car- alog?) lately with these really sweet kits! If you' missed them the first time under the Lindberg name, or were on the fence about building a Lindbergh kit- you get a second chance! Keep bringing us the beauties Chris!! :)
Do I need to say _another great build Chris?. Another great build Chris.
Nice build Chris...had to laugh at the paint booth...lol thanks again
My parents had that very car, back in the day -- a nice green with the slant 6. Best engine (for reliability) that Chrysler ever made. Push-button auto transmission -- guys like Dick Landy used the push-button trans with early FX stockers. I remember pictures of Landy doing a wheelie with one arm resting on the window ledge and his left hand pushing buttons.
Old school skills are the best 😁👌
Yes for darg version a friend from canada Rob ✌
The smooth door cards are from when Lindbergh did the early 60s Mopar drag cars, if which I have two, The Bill Maverick one and a Color Me gone one, which I think comes WITH a Super Stock Hemi
Nice build
Glad you think so!
Nothing like an hpiguys mopar builds...... Awesome!
Those double sided door panels are for when I screw up so bad on one side I can flip them over and try again🤣🤣
Great job as ever Chris 👌👍
LOL
Wonderrful piece and great job, mate. The Plymouth B-body cars are really bestial. I have a '64 Sport Fury 426 max Wedge by Greenlight.
Just picked this kit up today
Enjoy!
@@hpiguy I am so far! It’s my first ever model. I quickly learned to assemble the engine before painting. I’ll know better for the next one! great video, I’ve been back to it for reference many times.
I will have to do an Uncle Tony's Garage version of this. Hobby Lobby sells this kit.
Finally another Uncle Tony viewer, very rare to find in any comment section lol
Ha would be awesome to have Bottle Rocket too
Plan Z!!
I really enjoy your builds and presentation. I'm thinking about doing some filming and uploading not sure where to start. 🤔
SOO KOOOOOLLLL.
Awesome work as always.
Hemispheric ? HEMI , Hahahahahh
Mike Espo .
Superb job Chris - especially the Tamiya wash and esp the dash/instrument detailing - need to try and find that Mod Podge here in Europe. Just need to find the kit now ;-)
Great video as always a little disappointed they only give you one wheel option but that's why I keep spare parts from other kits. Great trick with the silly putty. Have a great weekend.
