The Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova is a small automobile manufactured by Chevrolet, and produced in five generations for the 1962 through 1979, and 1985 through 1988 model years. Nova was the top model in the Chevy II lineup through 1968. The Chevy II nameplate was dropped after 1968, with Nova becoming the nameplate for all of the 1969 through 1979 models. Built on the X-body platform, the Nova was replaced by the 1980 Chevrolet Citation introduced in the spring of 1979. The Nova nameplate returned in 1985, produced through 1988 as a S-car based, NUMMI manufactured, subcompact based on the front wheel drive, Japan home-based Toyota Sprinter.
1966 Chevy IIs introduced an extensive sharp-edged restyle based in part on the Super Nova concept car. In general, proportions were squared up but dimensions and features changed little. Highlights included a bold grille and semi-fastback roofline. "Humped" fenders in an angular rear end were reminiscent of larger 1966 Chevrolets, though the 1966 Chevy II and Nova had vertical taillights and single headlights. The lineup again started with Chevy II 100 and Chevy II Nova 400 models.
For just $159 (equal to $1,252.92 today) more than a Nova 400, buyers could choose a Nova Super Sport. Available only in a Sport Coupe, the Nova SS was top of the line. The 194 cu in (3.18 L) inline-six was standard on the Super Sport, but any Chevy II (excluding four-cylinder) engine could be coupled with the SS. The Nova SS was visually distinguished by wide rocker panels and a bright aluminum deck lid cove. It had bright SS emblems on the grille and in the ribbed rear panel, and Super Sport script on the quarter panels. Wheel covers were inherited from the 1965 Malibu SS. Strato-bucket front seats were included, but a tachometer cost extra.[10] The ’66 Chevy II sales brochure clearly promoted the Super Sport as the “Chevrolet Chevy II Nova Super Sport,” but the name "Nova" was not used anywhere on the body. Front and rear emblems displayed "Chevy II SS."[11] In 1967, Chevy II was still the name of the vehicle, but the Nova SS option package replaced all Chevy II badging with Nova SS badging.
The 90 hp (67 kW) 153 cu in (2.51 L) inline-four engine was only offered in the base Chevy II 100 series models. Buyers could also order a 194 cu in (3.18 L) inline-six engine (std. in the SS), a 230 cu in (3.8 L) inline-six, a 195 hp (145 kW) or 220 hp (160 kW) 283 cu in (4.64 L) V-8, a 275 hp (205 kW) 327 cu in (5.36 L) V-8 and the top engine, a new Turbo-Fire 327 cu in (5.36 L) V-8 delivering 350 hp (260 kW). This engine was first seen in the Chevelle. This engine with the close-ratio four-speed manual transmission turned the normally mild Nova into a proper muscle car; The Powerglide automatic was not available with the 350 hp engine.
The 1967 models received nothing more than a touch-up after a restyling for 1966. All Novas got a crosshatch pattern that filled the deck lid trim panel. The Nova officially was still called the Chevy II Nova and had overtaken the bottom-rung Chevy II 100 in sales. The Chevy II 100 lacked much in the way of trim or brightwork. 1967 models carried significant improvements in the area of safety equipment. A government-mandated energy-absorbing steering column and safety steering wheel, soft interior parts such as armrests and sun visors, recessed instrument panel knobs, front seat belt anchors and dual brake master cylinders, were included in all 1967 models.
The 1967 Chevy II and its deluxe Nova rendition continued to attract compact-car shoppers. Available only in hardtop coupe form, the 1967 Chevrolet Nova SS got a new black-accented anodized aluminum grille. SS wheel covers were again inherited, this time from the 1965-66 Impala SS. The 1966 "Chevy II SS" badges were replaced with "Nova SS" emblems for the '67s. Nova versions started with the 194 cu in (3.18 L)in-line six engine but new was an optional 250 cu in (4.1 L) inline-six. Further powertrain options included a 195 hp (145 kW) 283 cu in (4.64 L) V-8 and, for $93 more, a 275 hp (205 kW) 327 cu in (5.36 L) V-8. Nova SS coupes had a console-mounted shift lever with their Powerglide automatic transmission or a four-speed manual. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
hey how you doing im from brooklyn new yok im 67 years old i start building cars during the pandemic now i cant stop just want to say thank you for your channel it help me out so much my name is Rafael
I wish my hands were as steady as yours. Nice work
Story’s are great , great build,
I like this buildup the colors are perfect red interior almost a satin black outside paint job that's a beauty there
I love the smell of paint in the morning
Smells like, FUN!
I love the stories you come up with when you're building a new kit. That engine stand is very cool also. AMT should have included street cheater slicks ,it's kind of strange having a race engine and pro stock hood scoop with stock tires, something I will correct when I pick up mine. Keep up the good work Round 2, nice kit 👍
Thanks Glenn!
My favorite thing about your channel is that you encourage people to build models the way they want and not for anyone else. As someone who was recently reintroduced to this hobby, it's very helpful to have someone encouraging you to build your own model and not be worried about building a historically accurate replica. Thanks!!!
I appreciate that!
Before the eyes and hands started to go south on me, I used to build “contest level” models. Even had some made it to SCALE AUTO! But after watching you, I’m sure glad you weren’t in those contests! Fantastic skills, eye for details and love your attitude! I might just go out and buy a kit this week! lol Thank you!
I loved this kit, I built in the 80’s, happy to see the reissue, the chrome glue on trim, the engine stand and engine, so many kool parts.
I really like this kit, it has a ton of potential to be soo many awesome builds. Thank you for sharing and everyone stay safe and healthy and remember to smile and have fun it's a hobby and it's suppose to be fun. Take care everyone.
Thanks Teddy!
Thanks Chris. Got to watch you build a model while eating a nice pork chop dinner. All is well.
Right on! Sounds good!
The extra engine on the stand is very cool. All kits should be like this one, so many options. Great work as always. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Perfect color combo ! You have a gift for bringing anything to life. Great build. ❤️
Thank you so much!
That`s some impressing paint skills there.
Back to the hobby shop OH I'M GRABBING THIS ONE
Enjoy!
My dad built a 66 chevy 2 prostreet when I was a kid he was waiting on linkage for the 2 carbs. That night kids were playing with fireworks behind the shop. The insurance agent said to wait to insure it until it was drivable. Needless to say he never got to drive it. He passed away in 2018, I am going to build exact replica so my mom can se it for Christmas. Just picked up the pro street ertl kit
Love the chassis dry brushing! Simple and obvious, but so very cool. You rock!
Thank you! Cheers!
I gotta get me one of those now after seeing the spare engine and engine stand! Very nice bonus!!
💘 that engine stand and spare engine... You can create a "work in progress" look!!
Cool build ! Love the detail use your tips all the time ... Thanks for sharing
A new hpiguy video is always welcome, lovely build as always
Thanks again!
Canadian viewer...have to say, the black with the red oxide primer hood looks great.
Thanks man!
Man, LOVE IT. Yes, the building the model the way YOU want to build it, is what it's all about. And the stories you come up with, is PERFECT in relation to your build !!! The tips and techniques you use in your model building, I have started doing myself. And it is amazing, especially when it comes to the detailing of the dash gauges, interior and motor. The gel pens, silver pencil, silver sharpie, etc,. ABSOLUTELY worth it!! Thank You so much :)
Right on!
Love the black and red I had a silver 72 Camaro that was silver with red gut and yellow Lakewood traction bars thanks for a great build
Thanks Shannon!
Great build as always, l enjoy his videos hes the true builder YOUR OWN WAY. ROCKABILLY SCALE KUSTOMS
Thanks Teddy!
i've done a couple of this kits and they are so fun!great job on the detail
Awesome! Thank you!
Wow I love how you build the models. I love how you reference what looks like the 60s or 70s at the beginning of the videos. I grew up that time. I could never build models any good. I got into music and Audio Video and killed it there. But I love watching folks with the talent to have the models come alive. And you, definitely, are part of that elite club of gentlemen able to do just that. And very well too. Brilliant. Please keep up the great work.
Love the builds and content keep em coming i enjoy seeing your videos pop on the tube so I can watch em
Thanks, will do!
Man I'm lovin the model building.. I'm a builder as well but I'm also takin with the music.. It's great
Glad you're enjoying it!
First time viewer. Kind of got a little bored and so I fast-forwarded through some stuff. Then, you explained the purpose of your Channel and I had to go back and watch the entire video from beginning to end. I am now hooked. Subscribed! Great work.
Welcome aboard!
I bought a 1966 Chevy II SS 350 horse 327 new and it came with a double pumper holley carb high rise aluminum intake manifold. It was yellow with black interior. I changed the exhaust to the way you have it. The engine also had the dual horn air cleaner and chrome valve covers. I put traction bars similar to those that came with the kit. I could pull the front tires and it took about a month to burn off the 695x14 tires. It was fast. Liked your representation.
Thanks John!
Hi Chris, I just want to start by saying I have learned so much watching your channel. I was comparing a couple of my builds from a year ago to my most recent ones wow what a huge difference. So thank you for all of your great ideas and knowledge. Also you have never once complained about any of the kits, even if there are problems or things don't line up, or parts don't look to realistic. I just watched another channel and that guy cut down this kit so bad it was terrible. My grandson likes to watch you, so thank you for being a positive influence on everyone that watches your videos. Keep up the great work and awesome ideas.
Thanks Harold!
I show every single part in the beginning and let people make their own judgements.
Then I quickly assemble it, paint it and let people see what it 'can' look like if built as is.
We'll let the negative folks do their thing. There is so much of that in the hobby and I prefer to open the box and get to work. I just love building models and having fun!
Thanks again!
Beautiful! You got some serious skills!
Thank you! Cheers!
Just got this kit done. Built mine with the high rise, painted it seaside blue, and flocked the interior.
Great color for that car.
Nice!
Another simple and great build congrats Chris
One of the things i like the most is the story you give to the models
Thanks bud!
That "spare" engine is so nice - to paraphrase Chef Boyardee "Thank goodness for Chris' Detailing"
Thanks RA!
Again I love what you did for your Novass, That's what we called mine in High School, (69, 396, auto), had lots of fun with that car,
Thanks Robert!
I used to do that dry brush look back in the 80s, always liked the used and driven look. Enjoyed your video! Definitely want to try some newly learned techniques from this build.
I really liked the use of a drill and socket to rotate the tires to scuff them. So much quicker than by hand!
Totally agree!
Holy cow Chris, wonderful job again,I’ve been doing the same job for 45 years,I would love to have steady hands like yours, keep them coming,I’m gone for work for 3 months, will definitely start building when I get back,
You can do it!
Learnt a lot of new techniques from you. Thanks for being you
My pleasure!
fabulous build turned out great, now I need one. thanks for more tips and the stories
Glad you liked it!
Great Build and man o man what ugh great kit!
Thanks!
Really like the black with the red interior. The WIP engine is an interesting addition. Kind of reminds me of Hagerty.
Thanks James!
I like that you showed the hand detail panting and dry brushing. You made it look easy, looks fantastic. Paint, detail, build oh what fun. Rivet counting takes the fun out of it imho👍
Thank you very much!
Nice build Chris!!!!!!! You've outdone yourself this time!!!!!!! The 66 Chevy Nova Super Sport is one of my favorite rides
Right on!
Great job like always, these little light weight novas with a high reving pretty decent horsepower 327 did extremely well on the strip. I love the look you went for and it's perfect.
Thanks!
Fabulous review. I liked it so much I went on my favourite online vendor and bought the kit!
Enjoy!
Great job ! The 1966 Nova is one of the most desirable Nova ever made.... The make great drag cars.... They are small and light and just looks great....
I'm definitely NOT a fan of the while wall tires he chose.... I dont think a TRUE Hot Rodder would chose white walls but that's what's great about building your own... You can chose what you like.... Its still a great modle and I really enjoyed watching the build. Great work. Keep it up.
I love your work ..you do have show quality skills .I've learned so much from watching your videos keep the videos coming can't wait till the next build☺️🚗🚗🚙🚙🚘🚘🚘
Thank you very much!
Love the accessories on this kit. Also love your subtle weathering. Very cool.
Thank you very much!
Another great build Chris
Glad you like it!
A lot of well detailed parts in this kit too!!
A lovely representation of a 66 Chevy II! Nice custom. Nicely done Chris!
Thank you very much!
Great build! Definitely gonna pick a few of these up! Love the traction bars too.
The traction bars are great!
Glad you like them!
I am lucky enough to have the Grumpy Jenkins version from a couple years back. Includes drag parts plus all of this stuff, its definitely my favorite kit next to my original 1970 issue Plymouth gtx
Nice build, like the extra engine there.
Right on!
Love the paint scheme cool detail on the extra engine keep those builds coming Chris awesome job
Thanks, will do!
An INCREDIBLE build!!... Looks like something a street rodder would build!!... Keep up the great work Bud!!
Thanks a bunch!
Testors silver is the best. Sometimes the stars align and it goes on and dries flawlessly...
It's always a gamble if it dries nice and hard or if it stays sticky and smudges (even if you thinned and stirred it)
It's a good ole classic!
MHO Chris, that is the best build you have done of the ones I've seen so far! You seem to have gone the extra mile in the detailing and your choice of interior colors is out of the park. I would be a very proud gearhead to own a real version of that Nova! GREAT JOB!!!
Wow, thanks!
I like the 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 AMT kits!
Me too!
Great Video! I'm building my first guy (trying to kick my airplane habit) and this video pretty much has it all for me to learn from. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Testors and me go back a long way. No, I was not a "sniffer" neither! :)
Oh yeah, I've got tiny bottles from 30 years ago still!
I wuz...then I lernt ta bild modelz.
Me too, and me neither...LOL
It's OK to admit being a sniffer I build rc planes too an boy let me tell nothing better than some old ambroid cement or the sig manufactureing sig ment
Looks great Chris. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Nice Nova I need to pick one of those up, love the tips.
You should!
1966 The year I was born. Time to build one. I'm gong to get that model. Thanks for posting . I'm finishing up a 69 Camaro. It's for my wife since today is her birthday.
Right on!
Great build , I have a release of that car but I think I bought mine late 80s or early 90s ..still in plastic and in the box so I am glad I got to see this kit built and looks awesome.
Thanks for sharing!
Hello, back in 1966 this car was really hopped up by Chevrolet. High compression pistons, ( I think it was 12.5:1 ) very high lift cam, big Holly carb, headers and a high rise intake manifold. I built this kit when it first came out. Outstanding detail. The torn down small block engine and engine stand is outstanding. I liked it so much I bought 2. What a great job you did on this kit. Going to look for it on Model Round Up web site. There I hope to see your build too. like a lot of your builds there. great job. Been looking for your stock build on the 1941 Plymouth, and the airplane that you started a while ago. I think it was a P51 Mustang. Oh well. Looking forward to your next one. Always a pleasure, thank you.
They'll have it on there for sure!
I just wanted to say that video was totally awesome, as I'm going to have to watch more of them to learn more tips and tricks when building mine.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice build Chris I had the original issue of this in the late 80s early 90s and I have to get it again
Thanks!
That's awesome looking, fantastic job
Thanks for watching! Enjoy!
Nice build of one of the few AMT kits that did *not* have that steel rod front axle and a hole in the engine!
Thanks Mike!
A great build on a very good kit. Love the engine stand with engine. Also, love the traction bars.
Glad you like it!
That's a GREAT kit, you can do so much with it.
You can!
ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS Chris, Now I Gotta Get 1 thanks for Sharing n God Bless All.
Go for it!
Nice work, great kit that AMT made after popular demand by modelers in the '80s. Good to see you did the headliner this time, too...
Cool, thanks!
YES. Black over red, my favorite color combo!
Thanks Dan!
Love the interior coloring, nice details.
Thank you! Cheers!
Nice build with a cool backstory !
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for sharing your build your friend for canada Rob ✌
Several options with this build.. 😎!!
Cool build Chris. I like the spare motor and stand. Keep em coming, I'll keep watching.
Thanks Bob!
Thank for the build.
No problem 👍
Hey Chris, Chris here......I just git this kit mailed to me today & U are definitely lucky......only 1 set of tires in my kit.........cool bonus U got there sir!!!!!!!!
Enjoy!
I really enjoy the way your models look man. What's funny is the guys that heckle you have less subs than you, and in my opinion that is because of the attitude they portray. You show us a person doesn't have to have all the bells and whistles to build a killer looking model just basic stuff that is cost effective. Keep up the good work!
Let the haters be your motivators.
I don't dive into the swamp of insulting other's work or demanding everyone do things my way on the internet.
We'll let them do all that whining and criticizing and we'll just keep building models our way and having fun! :)
@@hpiguy No doubt well said man! 👍
*Nice* work , *Chris* ! To me , it looks like something from c.1976 ; like the cars I'd see as a youngster .
This kit was a breakthrough back in its day ; back in *1988* when it was originally issued . Thankfully , someone saw to it to removed the ridiculous moulded-on interior rear view mirror ! It was cast *with* the windscreen !
I have the *Grumpy's* modified-reissue of this kit from a few years ago ---- can't wait to tear into it .
Thanks for another fun build and review , *Chris* !
Thanks for the info!
Great videos I really enjoy them
Glad you like them!
Nice job on the small fine details ...
Another Awesome build Chris!
Thanks again!
Nice job creating weathering and patina too!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great looking build as always. Keep up the great work and Rust In Peace.
Thanks Chopper!
love that interior!! really nice
Glad you like it!
Sweet ride but the white walls gotta go & needs wider rear tires for sure !
( maybe some M&H Racemasters )
Love the older 3rd or 4th owner story.... that's what model car building is all about, imagination, skill & fun ✌😎
The kits with the accessories are just awesome. Very nice. ( engine and stand )
Engine and stand are great diorama items!
Glad you like them!
Great build!
Glad you think so!
Looks awesome. You done a great job on that nova.
Thank you! Cheers!
Thanks for the sharing your friend for canada Rob ✌
Chris, your detailing tips are top notch! Your builds always turn out looking fantastic. I know you build over 100 models a year with your review/build so it takes a lot of your time. I really appreciate what you do and I watch every one of your videos. Just wondering if you ever get the “itch” to do a full detail build that takes more time. I can imagine that it would be amazing. Thanks again for your contribution to a wonderful hobby!
Glad you like them!
I really like building out of the box but I have fun adding stuff to figure kits and dios too.
