      Virtually all the electric butterfly cutouts flow partially out the butterfly while a good percentage still flows on down through the exhaust pipe. We call these controlled exhaust leaks. The Cuthroat Cutout puts all the exhaust directly to the atmosphere for instant exhausting, allowing the motor to breath more efficiently. It is the only design that can do that without turbulence or restriction. Butterfly exhaust has been around since at least the 1800's

    That's a very good and useful idea ! But I think with two electric motors that could seal very tight, you would have the same outcome with no turbulence. One inside the pipe and the other one underneath. I think this would work!

    Any updates on an electrical one? I love the manual set up though. My truck is high enough to get under and switch out when I want, but having a switch button would be all the better!! Too many bad reviews of exhaust leaks and rattling.. Hence I think I'm going to go with this manual one 💪🏽

  • @sidneysmooth
    @sidneysmooth Před 7 měsíci

    Now I just want a system that enables this at the touch of a button. Totally blanks off the actual exhaust when you press the button, and sends EVERYTHING through the cutout.

  • @fastsigns4825
    @fastsigns4825 Před 4 lety +1

    This is hands down the best part in the cutout category. Great attention to detail!
    Sure it's a bit of effort, but seems like it checks off everything I need... the only thing I can think of is that it would be fantastic to have dzeus fasteners or something in the flange to be able to swap caps faster and easier, and that would put almost every naysayer in here to rest.
    I have zero interest in installing a cutout that's going to freeze up or not work in 6 months or less.

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 4 lety +1

      As far as the dzeus fasteners go, they wouldn't pull the inserts down tight enough to prevent exhaust leaks. Our design is based on two flat surfaces without the need for a gasket. Like the old Volkswagen engines.

  • @blubag
    @blubag Před 6 lety +2

    I agree that this is the best cutout exhaust for the exhaust perfectionist. But the most inconvenience way to switch from cutout to non cutout. I don't mind sacrificing a little turbulence for convenience and immediate response. Great product for the person who doesn't mind making time to crawl underneath the car to remove or reinstall the cutout for perfect cutout. Sucks for lazy people like me who wants to flip a switch for loud exhaust

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 6 lety +3

      Hi blubag, many performance enthusiasts that run/test/tune their cars at a track spend a lot of time under, over and inside their vehicles getting them ready for track time and back to street for the drive home. There is definitely a power advantage to a full, free flowing exhaust. Also, I have seen many you tube videos of enthusiasts driving around with open headers/straight pipes, loud exhaust contests etc. enjoying the sound. The Cuthroat is the only design that can give full open exhaust with the least amount of effort. Granted, you do have to unbolt 4 bolts. No electric design can match our flow without turbulence/restriction/reduced flow. Butterfly valves have that inherent design flaw.

    Great product.
    I own a Turbo 1.4L. So 3" is a bit much. Would you ever make smaller versions of these cutouts. say a 2.25" or 2.5"? That way there isn't a huge difference in pipe diameter when switching back to street.

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 7 lety

      Hi Llia, We had to make a decision as to what diameter to start with as tooling and production are very expensive. We felt that 3" would cover the majority of exhaust. We have had a number of customers install their Cuthroats on 2.25 diameter pipe with great results! It still flows well.

  • @MadLabZ

    what if you use 2 electronic cutouts per original exhaust pipe and wired them to be one open and one closed.

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 5 lety

      Hi Jeremy, That is doable, the problem is you create a definite area of turbulence and restriction. At some point in that type of setup the exhaust is running into a closed butterfly, and having to reverse it's flow and find the open butterfly. Typically that can end up being a couple of feet of exhaust pipe that the exhaust is having to travel back against itself (restriction/turbulence) to get to the atmosphere. Plus it is very expensive. Thanks for the comment!

    sigh...yeah, I guess. If you want to make noise sometimes and you're worried about every last horsepower on a dyno when your caped up, sure, this is a great idea and a fine-looking product. In reality though, your catalytic converter and/or muffler(s) cause way more back pressure or turbulence than a standard blocked off Y-pipe, and even then, unless your engine is significantly modified or your OEM did a really bad job designing your exhaust system, factory exhaust isn't restrictive enough for you to notice on an factory engine in most cases, particularly with modern cars.
    I have an electric cutout on my (basically stock) Toyota Celica and, other than the noise, it makes no difference opened or closed and my car has the factory cat, two aftermarket resonators and a flow master muffler.

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 6 lety +2

      Yes, depending on the application, the horsepower advantage will vary. We have seen Turbocharged rides go 5 mph faster in the 1/4 mile (on low boost)with our track insert. The cats definitely do cause restriction, so we try to help exhaust flow from that point back. Some of our customers just like the convenience of being able to have a true fully open exhaust (sound) when they desire it. Thanks for your input!
