    I bought one of these cutouts and it leaks right through the street plate making my miata sound like crap as pressure escapes through the seal. I’m gonna try putting lock nuts on the top of the 4 bolts to try and seat the plate harder. I doubt if it will do anything. I give this cut out a 2/5 mainly of those reasons and because they only make them in 3inch diameter now due to production cost. I bought adapters to fit my 2.25 exhaust it’s works it’s just since I ride so low even with stock suspension i bottom out on the cutout because of the pipe having to be a bit bigger. If you drive a truck then I guess this is perfect for you , if drive anything that hugs the ground I would not recommend this product! (And yes I tried DIY strapping my exhaust)

    This is hands down the best part in the cutout category. Great attention to detail! Sure it's a bit of effort, but seems like it checks off everything I need... the only thing I can think of is that it would be fantastic to have dzeus fasteners or something in the flange to be able to swap caps faster and easier, and that would put almost every naysayer in here to rest. I have zero interest in installing a cutout that's going to freeze up or not work in 6 months or less.

      @kevinjonker7792 Před 5 lety

      Hi Jeremy, That is doable, the problem is you create a definite area of turbulence and restriction. At some point in that type of setup the exhaust is running into a closed butterfly, and having to reverse it's flow and find the open butterfly. Typically that can end up being a couple of feet of exhaust pipe that the exhaust is having to travel back against itself (restriction/turbulence) to get to the atmosphere. Plus it is very expensive. I agree that this is the best cutout exhaust for the exhaust perfectionist. But the most inconvenience way to switch from cutout to non cutout. I don't mind sacrificing a little turbulence for convenience and immediate response. Great product for the person who doesn't mind making time to crawl underneath the car to remove or reinstall the cutout for perfect cutout. Sucks for lazy people like me who wants to flip a switch for loud exhaust

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 6 lety

      Hi blubag, many performance enthusiasts that run/test/tune their cars at a track spend a lot of time under, over and inside their vehicles getting them ready for track time and back to street for the drive home. There is definitely a power advantage to a full, free flowing exhaust. Also, I have seen many you tube videos of enthusiasts driving around with open headers/straight pipes, loud exhaust contests etc. enjoying the sound. The Cuthroat is the only design that can give full open exhaust with the least amount of effort. Granted, you do have to unbolt 4 bolts. No electric design can match our flow without turbulence/restriction/reduced flow. Butterfly valves have that inherent design flaw.

    sigh...yeah, I guess. If you want to make noise sometimes and you're worried about every last horsepower on a dyno when your caped up, sure, this is a great idea and a fine-looking product. In reality though, your catalytic converter and/or muffler(s) cause way more back pressure or turbulence than a standard blocked off Y-pipe, and even then, unless your engine is significantly modified or your OEM did a really bad job designing your exhaust system, factory exhaust isn't restrictive enough for you to notice on an factory engine in most cases, particularly with modern cars. I have an electric cutout on my (basically stock) Toyota Celica and, other than the noise, it makes no difference opened or closed and my car has the factory cat, two aftermarket resonators and a flow master muffler.

    • @kevinjonker7792
      @kevinjonker7792 Před 7 lety

      Yes, depending on the application, the horsepower advantage will vary. We have seen Turbocharged rides go 5 mph faster in the 1/4 mile (on low boost)with our track insert. The cats definitely do cause restriction, so we try to help exhaust flow from that point back. Some of our customers just like the convenience of being able to have a true fully open exhaust (sound) when they desire it. Thanks for your input!

      Virtually all the electric butterfly cutouts flow partially out the butterfly while a good percentage still flows on down through the exhaust pipe. We call these controlled exhaust leaks. The Cuthroat Cutout puts all the exhaust directly to the atmosphere for instant exhausting, allowing the motor to breath more efficiently. It is the only design that can do that without turbulence or restriction. Butterfly exhaust has been around since at least the 1800's

    I have a resonator delete on my car (2011 MazdaSpeed 3) and if i was to buy this would it be safe to place it on the resonator delete pipe? regarding backpressure etc.

      Good day Sir. Yes it would work well in the resonator delete pipe. It gives you the ultimate breathing capability (especially with the Turbo motor), with the option of returning back to the previous system. If you have any other questions please e-mail us at cuthroatcutout@gmail.com and send some pics of your MazdaSpped3!

    I was looking for an exhaust cut out that could keep up in the long run with no air flow restriction. I think I found just what I wanted. I was looking at electric cutout's but the motors always end up going bad or they start leaking. I also looked at the manual ones, but the y pipe creates some restriction. This is way better than any other ones I've seen. Definitely will be ordering from you.! Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to fit it between my exhaust manifold and the cats. I've been wanting to go open headers without the commitment. I have a daily driven 345 challenger R/T, and I think I'm going to be winning some exhaust competitions once installed.! Thank You and major props on concept.!

      Hi Deguello, let us know if we can help. They will out breathe any current exhaust and I don't know how you could lose any exhaust contests! LOL cuthroatcutout@gmail.com

    What about us guys with trucks? I'd like to have a cutout that I can control from the inside of my cab, that I can turn on and off when I want. Would that be something you guys can create? I really like your design and makes perfect sense, but I would like to be able to switch it on and off electronically

      Hi Alejandro, Down the road we may be able to accomplish that. But it will take a lot of research and development. This is why we came up with this unique design. Remember, while electric/butterfly cutouts are neat because of their ability to be controlled, they also have a fairly consistent rate of failure because of that adjustability. The butterflies leak, they stick open, the gear teeth strip, motors fail etc. Also they just don't flow well. Remember if your running our Cuthroat Cutout open after the catalytic converter, odds are it will sound great for most driving situations. It only takes a couple of minutes to change. Very easy on a pick up truck or any vehicle for that matter. Also a cordless drill makes it even easier. Kevin

      They already make things like that but I think it'll be worth getting out of your truck

      Should be easy to change if you have a truck
